I've been going to this location for the I've been coming here for the last 5 years since Moving back to Boston from Washington DC . This place has been going on shambles for about a year now, from service to the way they make their sandwiches that barely have anything in them. Today I went there and tried to order my usual sub, or, as Potbelly calls them, sandwiches. Today I wanted a chicken salad sub, and the lady kept asking me if I wanted a salad. Kept telling her no a chicken salad sub. A coworker who came in and corrected me then said we don't make subs, we make sandwiches. I'll give her that. But my point is that they have someone who doesn't understand English very well and taking your order, so if you make the mistake of calling a sandwich a sub, chances she might understand and think you want a salad. another lady who seems to be pregnant sitting down, then tells me you can leave the doors right there... I feel bad for this place. Time will tell. I will not be going back to this place ever again. I'll start going to Al Cafe for sandwiches now or going to another location, even though this is less than a mile from me. Was disappointed. Ordered the BLT online and added Cheese and Mayo using their buttons to specify. Showed up 10ish minutes later and the place was empty, mine was the only To-Go on the shelf. The shop itself was not bad. The line moved fairly quickly, and the sandwich was tasty. My only concern about this place is if they are following all the food safety procedures. I went there a few days ago to have a quick bite before returning to work. Everything seemed in place, the shop was clean and the AC was working. As I got closer to the counter where I could order I realized that there were two men taking the orders and making the sandwiches. A few other people who were working there seemed to follow all the food safety procedures, covered hair, gloves, etc. However, one of the servers, who is directly responsible for putting the food together was a long bearded man that was not wearing a beard net or any sort of protection, so any hair could fall in the food. Next, I asked to do the chips and a drink deal with a crush and their chips, and they stated I could not use it with an orange crush because it's not coke. I come here about once a week, since it is close to my office. But Im not sure why. The service is always terrible. Whether it be for breakfast or lunch. I usually place my lunch order online, only consisting of one sandwich, maybe a bag of chips if I go crazy. The online order system always quotes about 30 minute wait. Ok fine. No exaggeration, every single time I go down to get my sandwich it is never ready. You have a half hour to make one sandwich and it is never done. I never get an apology, maybe a "free sandwich for your next visit" coupon would be slipped into my bag, but that's it. Id much rather a verbal apology. For breakfast, in order to even order your food you need to wait for the staff to stop chatting among each other or doing prep for lunch. However today, I waited for her to finish her conversation to her coworker about the gym and I asked for a breakfast sandwich. I was quickly cut off saying "we're not doing breakfast today, we don't got no eggs". A few issues: 1. Put a sign up, that's why people are here at 8am, for breakfast. 2. I find that the prices are very high for the undersized sized sandwiches that they serve. I ended up in potbellies today because my favorite sandwich shop was closed. There were two people in line ahead of me and I could see at least three people working behind the counter. I stood in line behind the two people for about 10 minutes without moving. I'm not sure what the problem was but I assume they were filling orders that were placed on line. I am not one to stand in line ignored or tolerate poor customer service. I love this place. Been here a few times and their mediterranean sandwich is awesome (I'm glad it's permanently on the menu instead of just being a "new item")! I love that this is also super close to my office. Their sandwiches aren't huge, which is probably a good thing because I would attempt to eat the entire thing no matter how big or small it is because it's so tasty. One time I was here the person putting cheese on my sandwich before sending it through the toaster messed up (put cheddar instead of feta). So they had to start that part over and I had to wait a bit -- but what happened? The manager (I think his name was Tony) apologized and gave me my sandwich for free because I had to wait extra long for it. Probably the best sandwich place in downtown Boston. The service is fast and consistent, as is the food. I honestly don't get why people really rate these downtown "fast food" joints on the quality of food. Basically I work here 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, and then several years, and I have a rotation of places to eat for the sake of variety, not quality. This place functions well for variety. The menu is varied and there is a go-to sandwich for nearly every taste. The soup isn't bad, neither are the chips, and the portions aren't so big that you get a food coma the rest of the afternoon after eating here. So I've been coming to this place for a while now. They don't have a bunch of locations but the few times I do go they're always great. I went here yesterday for lunch and got the Turkey Swiss. I got lettuce, tomatoes, mayo on my sandwich. I got avocado which was $1 extra and bacon which is $1.60 extra. Although they do charge a lot extra for the bacon it is well worth it because their bacon is out of this world. The avocado is good too but I'd only really recommend it if you love avocado. I also got a strawberry shake (they were out of yogurt for the smoothies :( ). The shake was decent but drink it quick before it melts. An employee stood at the head of the line taking orders on an iPad, eliminating a bottle neck. Solid sandwich shop with very good milkshakes. I've really only had a few different things here like the Grilled Chicken & Cheddar, and the TKY, which are both good options. I like how they have the calorie content displayed, and several lower calorie options. Line is always quick, and the prices are reasonable. Only aspect I don't like is the ordering process, which always feels aggressive with their scripted questions for add-ons as they move you down the human conveyor belt of employees.
