I just want to recap the horrible experience and customer service from this weakened, on basically 350.00 worth of orders. 1) Order places on Saturday for 11:15 delivery shows up at 10:45, so it sits on the table for a half hour until the 11:15 break when people can eat. 2) The person who ordered just a double cheese grilled cheese with no toppings took one bite and started chocking and could not breathe, if someone did not have an epi pen they probably would have died, because the sandwich was just loaded with chicken which they are deathly allergic to. 3) I tried to contact the store for over 24 hours and just kept getting the message my call call can not go through as dialed, I had 5 different people try from diofferent phones and locations and nobody could get ahold of anyone at the store. 4) I had no idea if my order for Sunday was even going to go through since I had no contact and did not know if there was an issue at the store, so I had all the trepidation and had to decide if I had to make an order with an alternate place to make sure people got their lunch on Sunday. 5) Someone from the store called Sunday morning, I thought to address my concerns, but all they called for was to add additional ones to the pile, they said everyone that ordered the potato soup is SOL, because we don't have it anymore. 6) When I told her about all the issues from the order from the day before and someone almost died, she said I'll tell my boss and have them call you back right away, nobody ever called me back and when I returned the call to the number she called me from, just got voice mail and I left a message someone needs to call me back on this as soon as possible, 9 hours later and still no call. 7) In a totally unbelievable addition to this fiasco the apple walnut salad the same person ordered who almost died the day before because of the chicken that was added to their grilled cheese had chicken in their apple walnut salad even though the order and the sticker on the bowl cover said no chicken. At least she saw the chicken this time and could throw it away before taking a bite, but she did not get to eat her lunch either day. So in summary, order delivers a half hour early, everything cold before anyone could eat, same person almost killed twice because they put chicken on two items she ordered that should never have chicken on them, not able to contact store for the entire weekend, when someone did call me, just added more issues to the pile and promised the manager would call as soon as possible to address concerns and nobody ever called and when I called that number back they did not answer and did not respond to my e-mail. I think it would be almost impossible for anyone to top this customer service fiasco and total lack of responsibility and even acknowledging a phone call back. I guess they are lucky that person did not die, because then it would not be me trying to contact them and they probably could not just brush it off and ignore me. read more

The sandwich was good and tried a different type of chips which were interesting. Have a decent selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Good spot to grab a quick sandwich. Plenty of different topics to customize your sandwich. I like toasted sandwiches so I stop by when I am in the mood for a quick lunch. read more

This was a decent sandwich experience, and my first time trying Potbelly. There was a huge line this Saturday at lunchtime probably because they are one of the few eateries open in this plaza on weekends. They have a pretty large menu of sandwiches with unique names, and they offer three different sizes which is cool. They also offer soup and mac and cheese which is a nice addition. I wasn't totally sure if all their sandwiches are hot or toasted or if some of them are cold options. The whole process probably took about 30 minutes from entering line to walking away with my order. I opted for a grilled chicken breast sub. You order at the first part of the line and then walk down a little ways where another staff asks you what vegetables you want. They have a very limited selection of vegetables compared to what Subway offers, and you cannot view all the choices through the counter glass window like you can at Subway. They have a selection of sauces as well, and they list the calories on all the sauces which is a nice touch for those keeping track. They have a small soda fountain with the usual selections where you can help yourself. The staff were friendly, and the cashier was really encouraging her colleagues to hustle since the line was so long. I found the sandwich pretty tasty although it did seem very heavily toasted as the bread was very crunchy. Overall this was a decent choice for lunch, but I don't know if they are quite as good as Subway in my opinion. read more

I realize that it was after the lunch rush, but the staff seemed like they would rather be anywhere else than serving me. I did like that there are three sizes of sandwich to choose from. I love potbelly!!! My friend introduced me to this place my first semester after moving here for school. I ALWAYS get the smoked ham sandwich! I love ham! It comes with swiss cheese, which I like as well. But the best thing about this place is definitely the hot peppers you can add. Their hot pepper mix is delicious! It's a good mix of sour and spice. It's definitely my favorite part of the sandwich. I always ask for extra. Whenever I go to Potbelly, I always get it BIG (large) and they pack it with loads of meat! I feel like half the sandwich is ham! It's crazy. Basically you come here and choose a sandwich and then they toast it and you have the option to add some toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, pickle, brown deli mustard, oil, and Italian seasoning. It was the day before New Years and some co-workers and I thought it should be dead at one of our favorite sub shops....We were wrong. Again the line ran out the door but we were in and out within 5 minutes. This small sub shop is the model of efficiency. A line master takes your basic sub order and relays it to the team member that starts off the base bread and meat fixings and throws it into the toaster. This is all while 15 people are still in front of you in line. Once you get close to the front of the line you are shoveled into a "Fixings" team member. All in a flawless symphony of motion that befuddles the common customer who magically ends up where they are supposed to be. Once you get your $4.19 sandwich placed in a bag, you step left like at the Soup Nazi kitchen and pay your tender. I always get "The Wreck" which is salami and roast beef and some nice melted cheese with all the fixings except oil. It is just the right size for a lunch sandwich and it has to be one of the best subs in The Cities. The only equal I have come across is Caffrey's near the Herkhimer. read more

She took the order, punched it in and by the time you make it to the front line where the sandwich making happens, they are well into asking you what you would like on your_____. Quite a good system. OK, so I don't go to Potbelly often however anytime I do the ordering process always tends to confuse me. My last visit I was the only person here, I mean it was 4:30-5pm and the place was empty. The staff was cleaning, prepping food and listening to music; no problem with me I like to see employees having a good time. I didn't like feeling rushed as I tried to calculate the sandwich I wanted and how to order it so they could continue socializing. Everyone was friendly but I got the impression I was slowing them down or something, which is annoying considering there was no one in the place... Luckily the food was pretty good, but it just doesn't do it for me at $8 something dollars for a smaller sandwich. I always order ahead online and they are always late with having my order ready at the promised pick-up time. Granted, I usually order during the lunch rush, but they shouldn't offer online ordering if the staff cannot have orders ready by the promised time. It's extremely frustrating standing in the small area next to the pick-up station for 5-10 minutes past my pick-up time. If this location can figure out timing of their orders, I'll give it five stars. The Italian sandwich is good and I love the Uptown salad. The sandwiches are good toasted sandwiches. They've got a slightly different approach to the system: there are only eleven types of sandwiches, and all are the same $4.19 price (that $4.19 covers both the peanut butter & jelly and the 4-meat+ 'Italian' sandwiches). Not a real flexible menu, but you can select from two types of bread (white & wheat) and can upgrade to extra mushrooms, cheese, bacon or meat for a stock $.50 per item. Like most other sandwich shops, you can pick what type of condiments and incidentals you want: mayo, mustard, hot peppers, lettuce, onion,tomato, pickle, oil & ital. dressing, and your sandwich is made to order. I like the Wreck (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham & swiss). The biggest downside to my experience, is probably specific to the IDS location: it's in a popular location, in the busy downtown business district, and it becomes 'swamped' with customers between 11 & 1pm. In order to deal with the sizable line (which snakes from the turn-around across the shop and often out the door), the staff generally have someone stand and 'work' the line, taking and yell-relaying orders behind the counter. Or, in a somewhat NY-ish turn, they'll often have a 'lead' person behind the counter shout at customers to shout back their orders, well before they get through the line to the counter. In either case, woe be to the customer who has arrived and hasn't decided, or is mistakenly trying to carry on a conversation in line. As these folks don't have time for you to dawdle... You'll get a repeat performance at the 5-6 'cattle chutes' that they relay folks into for final assembly of the condiments on their sandwiches. The folks working the counter end of the 'chutes' are as motivated to shuffle you through as the order-taker was. So be prepared with your list of toppings, before you get in front of a human.:D It's a highly-managed environment... more than a bit like an assembly line. To give them credit, they will crank you through the process in roughly 5mins or less. It just rubs this slower-paced Minnesotan slightly wrong to be jostled along so quickly through the process. Also, due to the high volume of customers, the noise level in the store is pretty hefty. You'll find yourself shouting to be heard by the other folks at your table (if you can find an open one...). They often will have in an acoustic guitarist to play and sing from a somewhat bizarre crouched little stagelet/loft above the proceedings below (he sits in a space that appears to have roughly 4' of headroom). But the store ambient noise level is so high, you'll seldom be able to hear him play. Like I said, the sandwiches are good. And it's a popular lunch spot with my co-workers. So I generally end up eating here several times a month. While in line the "sandwich man" with a clipboard is going to try to impress you with whatever cryptic code of "sandwich speak" he barks out to the sandwich counter. I'm easily impressed, you? The veggie sandwich is totally craveable - it is warm, it has mushrooms smothered in melted cheese. Potbellys offers a salad option, too. If you don't arrive before 11am you've had it. Come early for sandwiches and soups, otherwise the line wraps around all the way to Macy's and no lunch for you. Just kidding. They start taking orders on their iPad system as they walk down the line, so as to speed up the whole process. It really works, what they do, they do really well. Out of all the Potbelly sandwich shops, this one is my favorite. Service is splendid, the shop is warm and inviting, the food is fresh and quick, the sandwiches are grilled to perfection, and cookies are still warm out of the oven. Is there anything better than a properly made sandwich, soup and cookie for lunch? My favorite is the Italian sandwich, add Nueske's bacon and get a side of balsamic to dip it into. My favorite soup is the Loaded Baked Potato or the Broccoli Cheddar. Just delicious. The little oyster crackers are yummy too, my toddler eats them right out of the bag. As far as price is concerned, it's on par with Jimmy Johns and Erbs and Gerbs. But it just tastes better. There's something magical about a sandwich coming out of the oven, grilled especially for you, nice and warm on a freezing Minnesota day. The bread and the giardiniera (they call it "hot peppers") make this place. I usually keep it real by doubling down on the bacon, too. Mainly because I'm ballin' and shot callin', y'all. Don't be intimidated by the enormous, snaking line that spills out into the IDS common area / skyway. It moves fairly quickly due to the breakneck-speed with which the restaurant staff operates. The staff is courteous, yet curt. Be ready to tell them what you want, pay and get out of the way. They don't tolerate shenanigans and neither do the Potbelly veterans waiting behind you. The ever so reliable go to lunch spot. They have a pretty decent sandwich selection (would highly recommend the Mediterranean with chicken) with some soup and malt choices. I'm kinda in a rut and have yet to venture off and try anything new but from the satisfied looks on my colleague's faces I can tell the other options are tasty as well. Great friendly and organized/efficient staff (It's like clockwork during the lunchtime rush). If you are on a time crunch but got a craving for something off the menu they have the option of online ordering, so by the time you walk over you can skip the line and walk out with your food. Got to admit I have used that service once or twice. They have a few locations within the skyways, but there will be a line come lunch time. Even during the busy rush hour of lunch (which I try to avoid if I'm just heading back to my desk to eat) it will take roughly about 7-10 minutes from the time you order your food to the moment you are cashing out. Seating during the rush hour time is limited but luckily if you have some time to spare and don't want to eat at your desk, there is a great spot right out in the 'courtyard' space of the IDS building (great for people watching). read more

My husband and I could not wait to try it. Then one night we went in. We were convinced we had missed a hidden menu. Could this really be it? A choice of about 6 "signature" sandwiches? I actually wanted to leave right then but he convinced me to stay. I thought to myself, "These better be the best damn sandwiches we've ever eaten." I'll save you the suspense. They weren't. They were average sandwiches. Hell, Panera Bread is just as good. Maybe I've been spoiled by places like Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, MI but this place was a major let down. Husband thought so, too. Is it sad I still remember the day I fell in love with Potbelly Sandwiches? Six years going strong, and the signature flavor is just as delicious here in Minneapolis as it was in that first bite in Chicago. My usual is a Roast Beef with all the fixings including hot peppers (sans oil). The chicken salad is good too, and the BF swears by the Italian. I like that they will "thin-cut" the bread, because who needs those extra calories? If you like boring, generic, cookie-cutter sandwiches, then perhaps Jimmy Johns or Subway is where you'd rather stop for lunch. But if you like a little kick, zip or pizazz then Potbelly's where it's at. I've become so predictable that whenever I meet the BF for lunch downtown and he asks where I want to eat, my answer is almost always Potbelly. If you're looking for a sweet treat, try one of their Dream Bars--so good! I'm surprised to see some people complaining about the prices...My sandwich is always under $5, and I can't argue with that! The staff is really friendly--always asking how my day is, if I have exciting plans for the weekend, etc. It's amazing they have time for this, considering this particular location is hopping at lunchtime. They do a great job moving people through by taking your order while you're standing in line, so by the time you get to the counter, your sandwich is ready to be dressed.
