Went to this potbelly to the point of becoming a regular. Hardly ever spoke a word to the staff since I would order ahead but they knew my face to the point they'd just hand me the food. Next level service and always had a table open. I got a new job so I won't be coming in as much so I figured I'd leave this review as homage to my favorite lunch spot. Walking in at 12:00pm today, this location refused to take any orders! The worker said they were behind, and despite being open, they would not take any new orders. There were several customers there and the workers were just trying to avoid eye contact. Meanwhile there was no manager to be seen. I have never seen such incredulous service at a Potbelly before. There was no sign on the door or any other indication that service wouldn't be available, so we ended up having to drive to another location. read more

Ok this Yelp page hasn't been updated in ages apparently. This location *is* open for lunch and they don't require masks anymore. We went today to use a BOGO coupon sent via email. The specifications of the deal were a little misleading on the coupon, so we ended up paying full price, but the cheerful staff and good food left us not too salty over the situation. This company is lucky; the employees at this location are an asset to the business, especially Rachelle, who was very kind and friendly throughout the transaction. She couldn't have been more helpful, and honestly that's an unusual thing to find in an employee currently. The marketing team, however, needs a lesson in transparency; when your advertising techniques aren't clear, you leave your employees wide open for conflict with customers, and that's not cool. Your employees are your direct line to your customer base. Don't make their job harder. read more

I visited this location today, around 4:00PM. The employee John was everything that I believe a potbelly employee should be. Very energetic, greeting us immediately when we walked in, and continue to be kind and helpful throughout our visit. However, we did have a very awkward altercation with the manager when it came to our order be made incorrectly. We ordered a Coffee Oreo Shake and the female manager told John she would make it. John repeated the order to the manager just like this "it's a Coffee Oreo Shake Fully loaded, whipped cream and a cherry!" and the manager just gave off this very awkward vibe and look towards John. I can tell John felt the same because he immediately said to the manager "I can make it!" and she said no. The Shake was ready to go and she yelled out "chocolate shake!" And John immediately tells her it was a coffee Oreo Shake. In that moment, the manager looked so angry as if John told her the wrong order when in fact she just didn't listen to John, twice. At this point, I can tell John was felt ashamed and embarrassed when he definitely shouldn't have. In fact the manager should have felt that way. So of course when the order was remade, I tried to break the ice and make her crack a smile, she yelled out "Coffee Oreo Shake!" I went a picked it up and told her "I actually ordered a chocolate shake?!" and I immediately said "Just Kidding!" and the other employees laughed etc and she didn't find it funny. She gave me another dirty look and beelined into the back room. I apologize to John for how uncomfortable she made both him and I feel and told him I would love to do a survey to give him praise for his job well done. read more

I've always been a fan of Potbelly's, but I admittedly don't go here very often. This shop is located downtown Naperville so if I'm down there I'm usually not looking for a quick sandwich, I'm looking for a nicer dining experience. Lately though, I've been popping in and out of downtown Nape running errands since my son is in the NICU at Edward Hospital, and Potbelly's is a great option for lunch or a quick snack. I love that they have " skinny" sandwich options that have less calories. The skinny turkey on whole wheat is usually my go-to. They also offer a nice selection of baked chips, Mac and cheese, and soup. My newest discovery are their low fat shakes and smoothies! I tried the low fat coffee smoothie and it was delicious. They have an Oreo one too that I'll have to try one of these days. Such a great indulgence and you don't have to feel as guilty enjoying it because it's made with low fat milk! There's street parking right on Washington, but I'd suggest parking in the parking garage behind Potbelly and walking through the alley. Much faster! read more

So we tried this place after considering Quiznos first... and I'd say, there are pros and cons... I loved the layout and freshness of the place. The hot peppers are amazing and I really think it adds a great touch. They don't carry olives or an avocado spread, sadly. Our subs were good... not the best ever, but decent. I would still say that Quiznos reigns in the sandwich department for a chain restaurant. But, if you really want the best and you're ever in Santa Monica, CA, it's a requirement to visit Bay Cities Deli for a Godmother. I'm not kidding. The driver kept calling me and saying I didn't understand directions. I think I know where I reside. he didn't speak barely any English so it was beyond difficult to communicate with this driver. never again. It's Potbelly and it's a chain so you wouldn't think the Naperville location would be any different than Potbelly's many other delicious locations but, sadly, it is. I get the veggie sandwich... a normally succulent and tasty sandwich but not at this location. Burn my bread, get more cheese on the outside of the sandwich than inside, and give me 2 slices of canned mushrooms. Will that be all? Sure, since you already wrapped up my sandwich... I wouldn't want you to have to go through the trouble of opening the wax paper that's covered in the cheese that's not actually on my sandwich to put an extra ingredient on there. Forget it. I'll choke it down. Really, I can't blame the staff. They all appear to be 15 and I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that everyone is VERY young. Possibly there on their work permit for high school credit. They are nice and attractive kids but they are kids. I respect them going out and getting jobs but there needs to be an adult figure there... at least to manage. If there is an adult manager there, I would recommend them making their presence known. Right now, this location has a severe issue with punk ass Jr high and high school kids slumming around, not buying anything, just being loud and obnoxious and quite obviously making customers and the young staff uncomfortable and I understand how the young staff would not be so quick to scold people their own age in a large group of friends. The two knuckleheads behind the counter could barely handle the post-lunch hour that I wonder how they got through the lunch crowd or how they manage to dress themselves in the morning. My mom needed to use the bathroom. I was thirsty, so I grabbed a Pellegrino out of the cooler and headed to the register. There was a man in front of me paying for his order as I walked up. He paid employee #1 and stood at the counter. And waited. And I waited. Meanwhile, a lady walks up behind me and asks employee #2, at the other end of the counter, a question about peppers. I don't know what happened, but she walked away. Employees #1 and #2 then proceed to stand behind the counter. The man continued to stand at the register, meal paid for. Employees #1 and #2 look right at me. Neither walk to the register. I cock my head wondering when I'll get to pay for my water. Employees #1 and #2 didn't make any sandwiches. Looked around. I put my water back in the cooler, met my mom back by the bathroom, and walked out. The guy in front of me still didn't have his food when I left either. Lame. read more

My toddler and I visited my sister and her family in Chicago over Memorial day weekend. We all went to the parade in downtown Naperville and ended up starving. Sister's hubby mentioned Potbelly. I had never heard of the place. He picked us up sandwiches and they are wonderful. Toddler loved it too. We shared a turkey and cheese with everything. Super YUM. My only complaints are they do not have avocado (but no one seems to have avocado in Chicago). I found the peppers too hot, but easy to pick off (I turned into weakling with spices after having the toddler) and the potato salad is very mayo based (my sister claims that is how Midwestern potato salad is made). The significant-other unit and I love dropping by for takeout on sunny, summer weekend afternoons so we can go laze around the Naperville riverwalk with our dog. Delicious and fast sandwiches. Great soup options (though they never have the tomato soup often enough IMO). Great ice cream treats if you feel up to a great dessert, but I always get the mint green tea from the cooler. Ordered online, once again it's not ready. Place is NOT busy. Yet, my order has not even been started when it should have been sitting on the shelf for me to grab and go. Little girl in a tie die t-shirt behind the counter goes to look for my order, ends up walking away from it to go to talk to someone else. Comes back and says "it'll be awhile is that ok?" I say, "No, it's not ok." She says, "Yeah, well..." (stopping short of saying "too bad" I'm certain!)...walks away and goes makes someone's milkshake and makes me wait even longer. Then she goes whispers something to a co-worker, glaring at me. I finally get my order - which was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes. It's wrong. Of course it is. Intentional or is she just poorly trained? Either way, this is not an isolated incident. This location is consistently horrible. I should have walked out as soon as I saw how dirty this place was. First thing I noticed was garbage all over the floor and quite a few flies. We walked up to look at the menu and the the rude kid asked what we wanted. I said just a minute, my wife is looking at the menu. About 15 seconds goes by and he asks again, what do you want? I explained again that my wife was looking at the menu and added in that she had forgot her glasses at home so she was having a difficult time reading. At this point you would think he would over a menu for her to read but you'd be wrong. Instead he waited another couple of seconds and impatiently asked again what we wanted. My wife seeing that I was getting annoyed just ordered the first thing she could read to avoid me getting upset with this kid. Once we got our food from the other rude kid Jayson we had the easiest time picking where to eat. It was so easy because only one table was somewhat clean. As we ate our less then good food we were attacked by flies constantly swating at them while we protected our food. Once I got my credit card bill I noticed that Jayson charged me twice! I called the manager who did refund my money and as long as I was talking to him, explained all that went wrong that day. He apologized but didn't really seem to care, no surprise. This is my favorite of the non-Lincoln Ave/Chicago Potbelly sites. It's a very similar feel to the original with the actual downtown just outside. One of the few suburban locations you can still walk to. Valerie's right - the line is long, and they move you through pretty efficiently - at least, I spin it that way. GREAT SUBS!
