I used to really like Quiznos, but as everyone knows they bit the dust. I discovered Potbelly when I lived in NYC. I believe they started out in Chicago. They have the same model as Quiznos: bread, cheese, and meat go through a broiler then you choose your toppings. My favorite is called The Wreck on multi-grain bread. I also love their soups. They feature Zapps chips, which started out in Louisiana. Great chips. They also have pasta salads. I think they also have vegetarian sandwiches, but don't quote me. I said "thank you" and she walked away with no reply. Chicken salad was BLACK. It was also so salty it was in edible. When I called to inform them, the response was "ok." Coming from out East my husband and I are pretty familiar with Potbelly. We used to frequent it about once or twice a month. While I did notice a location in Sugarhouse when we first moved here, it's far enough that we never went out of our way to visit. Now they've opened one much closer to us by the South Towne Mall, and my husband has been dying to go (you might think that's a strong word, but he really loves Potbelly). We visited on Saturday around lunchtime. It wasn't super busy, but there were several tables occupied, although no line to order. If you're unfamiliar with Potbelly it is similar to Subway in that you choose your sandwich, and then go down the line telling them what toppings you'd like (otherwise it's as different from Subway as a sandwich shop could be because Subway=yuck). Their sandwiches are toasted, and they have the option of regular, slim (less bread) or a big sandwich. I think they also have a whole wheat option, but not sure on that. Some of our favorites are The Wreck (probably the best sandwich, must get with hot peppers), Mediterranean (great vegetarian or vegan option with no cheese), or the peanut butter and jelly. I know. Sounds ridiculous. I don't even like PB & Js. But there is something glorious about toasty bread and melty peanut butter. Just try it once, and then you'll realize I was right, but I won't be jerk about it, promise. They also offer soup and salads. I think their soup is pretty average, but it's fine. They always have the option of chili, and then a soup of the day. Their salads are actually pretty good! I like the Uptown, and my favorite is the chicken salad salad (just a salad, with a scoop of chicken salad on top. Surprisingly good, and no need for dressing!). For sides they have several chip options, and carry Zapp's chips, which I never really see anywhere else. They also have three prepared salads: macaroni, potato, and maybe coleslaw? Anyways, when we were there last I saw them just scooping these salads out of paper cartons, so they are not made in-house, which is kind of gross, and I don't think I'd go for those. Lastly, they offer some treats: Milkshakes, cookies, and ice cream sandwiches. The milkshakes are real milkshakes. They are like melted ice cream, which I am not a fan of. If you are a true Utahn and believe the only way to eat a milkshake is with a spoon you will not like them. These are definitely straw shakes (speaking of which, they put two baby cookies on the straw and it's super adorable). For dessert I would recommend either the dream bar (amazing chocolatey wonderfulness) or an ice cream sandwich (I just saw on their menu that these start at 1k calories, which has pretty much ruined them for me, but if you don't pay attention to that get one because they are so divine!). The cool thing about the ice cream sandwiches is that you can choose your cookies (oatmeal chocolate chip or brownie ftw!) and ice cream and they make it right then for you. They feature live music probably a few times a week. Usually very singer-songwriter style (not judging, I love that). It's pretty cool that they support local artists in this way. For a sandwich shop they are very good. I don't love sandwiches though, so I'd give them a strong 3.5 stars. However my husband who does love sandwiches would give them 5 stars, and since he is the connoisseur here, I will take his opinion into account and give them a solid 4 stars. P.S. If I could give a rating less than 1 star, I absolutely would. This weekend I had an event and purchased 2 boxes of sandwiches from Potbelly in Sandy Utah. When I went to pick up the cold cut sandwiches, they were both sitting on a hot box and 2 male employees seemed cautious to hand me the boxes even after confirming my name on the receipt. Every single guest who ate a sandwich from my event had extremely bad food poisoning the following night and next day. A total of 17 guests were vomiting, had sweats and chills, diarrhea and other symptoms. Most of the gusts from my event traveled from California and had to push back their flights or drive home due to the illness from the sandwiches. When we reported the incident to Potbelly, we were told that we would hear back the following day but never got a reach out. I had to reach back out to Potbelly myself this morning and was greeted by the general manager who denied a refund and tried to a state that the food poisoning couldn't have come from them since the first person who got sick was affected relatively shortly after eating. I tried to explain that the sandwiches are the only food item that everyone who got sick shared but each time I tried to talk, the general manager talked over me and denied anything I was saying. Also, food poisoning can take anywhere from an hour to a couple days, there is no specific time range where it will affect a person. The customer service was horrid and triggered an anger response. I will be contacting the health and safety department investigate the issue further. read more

Potbelly is the best when it comes to subs! I live in holladay and I drive all the way to Sandy just to go to potbelly and it's worth it! They have a great variety of sandwiches and kids menu! We love Potbelly and wish that they had more restaurants. However, they have an employee that was so rude!! There is a sign saying you have to wear a mask due to city ordinance. I mentioned to him that the city mandate had been overturned. He looked at me and my husband and said, "Well if you want to eat here, you have to wear a mask". I was fine wearing a mask. I have been meaning to write this review for a while now but just got around to it. The staff here was insanely rude. Terrible customer service from the manager, his staff and the cashier. Our family ordered a bunch of things but one of the things we ordered was a bowl of chili. When we sat down to eat, we quickly realized that we didn't receive the chili bowl, but rather it was a broccoli cheddar. This young ignorant girl working the cashier said that it was too bad but they double check all orders and that must have been what we ordered, oh and by the way she also had the audacity to tell us that we already paid for the order so there was nothing she could do about it. We escalated the matter to what we thought would be a competent manager, turned out to be a very simple manager and his second in command was no better, instead acted like a thug and henchman, then they just stared at us and said "oh you didn't tell us you wanted chili, you wanted the broccoli cheddar soup so we made the broccoli cheddar." Total lie. We said no we didn't. We never ordered that and one of our family members is actually allergic to broccoli. He refused to correct the situation and insisted we wait in the back of the line, which had grown to 10-12 people. So our food got cold, soggy and awful while we waited in line again for this nonsense. We then waited for the chili and paid for the chili, with no help from the staff, just snide remarks while they gave us dirty looks and talked about us while we cautiously ate. The feeling of a physical and mental threat from these employees was so bad. We have never felt so disrespected for something that was clearly their fault. We ended up just tossing the broccoli cheddar and most of us actually lost our appetite in disgust of how they treated us. They need clear training in customer service, inclusivity, sensitivity and business 101. If they can't treat people humanely they should close. read more

We drove all the way across town since there isn't a Potbelly location by us and we wanted to try their food. I can say we won't ever be back. They had a sign on the door stating that you couldn't order inside, they only take online orders because of staffing shortages. We had no idea what we wanted to order and wanted to ask questions before ordering, so I walked in the door to see if I could even ask them a couple questions. There were 4 employees that wouldn't even look up or speak to me and they had blocked entry to the restaurant with a bunch of tables. I frequent this location often and order the Mediterranean. It is always good. Tonight I entered an empty restaurant with three employees working. One employee was mopping. I stood to order as he continued mopping the floors. He approached me and hit my shoes twice with the mop. I looked down to see that under my shoes was the only dry floor in site. He told me to be very careful because it was extremely slippery now. Although it was mildly comical that someone would be that inconsiderate without intentionally trying to be offensive. I found the young staff needing training and maybe an incentive to be kind to customers. I probably won't revisit until I forget this feeling... probably going to be a while. read more

It was okay, I got the meatball sandwich and my girlfriend got the Mediterranean. The meatballs were cold on mine and hers was fine. Overall the food was decent (aside from cold meatballs) but definitely over priced. Customer service was pretty bad as well, the workers seemed to focused on what they were doing to even ACKNOWLEDGE us. We had to approach the cashier and ask if we were able to place an order. I'm a couple of days behind because I was traveling. I ordered a turkey club and it was toasty and delicious we (my sister and I) had the choice of 2; I had broccoli cheddar soup and she had potato. They were both super hot and good. The people at the counter were nice and did a good job. Here is why I am giving 3 stars....when we walked in we tried to use the hand sanitizer. Empty. I then I see the ladies room and the hand soap was a bottle of Dial soap but it was literally full of water. No suds at all. Then upon leaving the restroom I tried another sanitizer station and it was also empty. I can say that having or not sanitizer is fine-I carry some but to cheap out on soap is not cool. And if the employees use that restroom then they aren't using soap either. read more

Went in to buy lunch today. The staff does not want walk in business. I left the house without my phone. Upon arrival I was informed all orders must be online due to understaffing. It took three staff members to explain to me why none of them could complete my order. I needed to order online. Just use your phone. I tried to explain I didn't have it on me. I was informed this was a stupid thing for me to do. I still do not understand why a business would turn away paying customers. I hope all three of the employees working day shift on 03-18-22 are required to learn customer service. I plan on buying sandwiches from another shop from here on out. read more

$13 for a soup, sandwich and drink.....it better be good. I got the Italian on wheat (BIG). The sandwich tasted great although it definitely was NOT big (a good name for their BIG might be normal)! I also got a cup of baked potatoe soup, which was also good. They had live music (guitar player/singer). He was pretty good. Overall the food was good, employees were helpful service was quick and the visit was pleasurable with the exception of the price. I asked for extra mayo and onions and they put 1 line of mayo and i think it broke the bank to add 2 pieces of onions. The BLTA just uses skimpy bacon. I walked into Potbelly Sandwich Shop and was not greeted by anyone. So I walked up to the register to order and they asked "did you order already?" I said no and they told me I have to go back to the front. So then I order and asked what's in the potbelly vinaigrette and the kid tells me I have no idea. Then my wife got her salad and she paid to have bacon added and they did not have the bacon in it. Also I asked for a cup so I could get iced tea, the kid let me know that they have iced tea over there...... and then asked if I wanted iced tea... "sure I'll have what I ordered" Also, my aunt ordered her daughter the grilled chicken sandwhich. And the kid then asked if I wanted chicken in that sandwhich and that it will be extra......... One good thing is the food taste good, but overall it seems like the workers here are not very smart and the customer experience is the funniest and worst I have ever experienced. read more

Last weekend my sister and I decided to go with potbelly's when it came to getting food for my daughter's birthday party and after eating their food almost everyone that came to our event got very very Ill. When we brought it to the attention of the restaurant they had us answer some questions over the phone and said they would get back to us. We waited a few days and heard nothing so we called them back and the manager told us that it wasn't their fault we all got sick when the only thing that everyone ate in common was these sandwiches. The management has been nothing but rude to us and refuses to really look into what is going on. They have told my sister that we were lying to them and we poisoned ourselves amongst other lies that we have caught them in and when we bring that to attention they get extremely defensive. These sandwiches almost put 2 people in the hospital and got about 15 more so violently ill and the management doesn't even care. So be careful if you order from this place you never know what they are going to give you and not care. read more

I first discovered Potbellys at Chicago Midway Airport! The best sandwiches which by the way blow away Quiznos which I never liked anyways. So I'm thrilled that Potbellys is in Sandy Utah! The best tasting sandwich ever and excellent customer service from a very friendly staff! My favorite is the Turkey Big sandwich on whole grain along with the Chicken Salad and Tuna! These guys make a really yummy sandwich. I like the meatball (with extra mushrooms!) a lot. They're also really fast, making this a good option for lunch when you're on the clock. Convenient location, plenty of parking, and fill-your-own-drinks (aka hassle-free refills) make this an easy stop for a better-than-average sandwich.
