Now this chain has got it when it comes to sandwiches. Food is delicious for both times I've been to this chain. Only issue I've had for both situations if that they just trust you to tell them what you've ordered and there is no transfer of information. I could have told the cashier that I ordered a veggie sandwich then I had really ordered the beef and they wouldn't have been the wiser. In fact, I was charged for an original sized (medium) sandwich when I only ordered the skinny. I asked for avocado as an add on but they never put it in. And because the sandwich is not very visible, I never knew until I opened it up to eat. I wasn't very happy about this so I would give this a mark down but the food was delicious. If I lived near one, I would order here all the time. I won't mark them down this one time because I don't think this happens often and this seems more of a corporate structure issue and come on... This food is wayyyyy better than subway! Overall, watch out for errors in billing your order but I would get their sandwiches over and over again. *Disclaimer: As of 2020, I refuse to rate restaurants anything lower than 4 stars unless I truly believe they are deserving of a lower status. I love all the salty and vinegary taste of the meat and peppers, goes very well together with a side of salt and vinegar chips. Mmm. Bottom Line: Small and awkward space and slow service. I love Potbelly and go to Potbelly at least once a week but this location is really lacking. The space is small and awkward with very limited seating. They have some tables on the sidewalk but of course DC's finicky weather must cooperate to make that space useful. Also, they don't have a soda fountain. As far as service, it was so incredibly slow on the weekend. I think it was 15 minutes to get a sandwich and salad even though there were only two other guests in front of us. Friendship won, but barely. Ideal for take-away, the paper mill interior offers Disney eye candy but almost no seating. Grab a chocolate malt ($2.49) -- it's made with real ice cream and the mixing cup is "hand warmed" to ensure the thickness doesn't stick to the insides. Gotta love attention to detail! I'd give this 4-stars, and maybe I should given the what you get for the cost, but it is after all a simple sandwich and while satisfying for a quick lunch, its nothing to fall over in shock of. Assembly line process makes the long lunch line move quickly. There are enough "menu" boards that people should be able to get a clue and make up their mind about what they want BEFORE they get to the ordering station (serious - the menu only has about 20 options total and that's if you add in all the shakes). But alas - there is occasionally someone who doesn't. Still - even with a long line you can be in and out in less than 10 minutes most of the time. The place is absolutely packed every time I'm in there. I don't even entertain the notion of trying to "eat-in" anymore. Too few tables to be practical - but was nice the one time I was able to snag one. Sandwiches are ok - I usually get the veggie or pizza (without pepperoni) sub. I get lots of veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, etc...) when it moves to the next station. Plus - I like the bread. Nice, chewy sub rolls. Very simple pricing here - all subs are 1 price (with a fee for a few extras) as are salads, soup, shakes, chips, etc... There is some varying of prices of beverages from the cold case. At about $5 for a sandwich and $6 for a salad - you really can't beat the prices. I do recommend the shakes/malts. They do not squirt out of some dispenser. Whatever you think of chains Potbelly does there best to make you happy. The 14th and New York St. location was the second location in the city. It is a tiny little sandwich shop on the corner of this building. There are about 17 seats inside and it gets quite tight inside at lunch time when the lines are long. So plan on getting lunch to go. Have no fear though, they will get you in or out in under 10 minutes. Seating doubles in the spring and summer when they have a patio outside if you are looking for an outdoor spot to eat a sandwich not too far from the White house. Potbelly serves 11 sandwiches and only has two types of bread. The oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are their recipe and they bake them fresh everyday. Don't forget to get a hand dipped shake on a hot day: Oreo is my fave! If you ask they will let you call out your own shake to the shake maker. read more
