Just ordered pizza from Potomac Pizza. I wasn't sure how this place would be based on the mixed reviews, and I was a little apprehensive when the delivery guy showed up at our house and my husband asked how the pizza was and he replied, "It's alright." But despite all this, we tried the pizza and it's good! The pizza is thin, New York style and the crust is not at all Boboli-esque as one reviewer described it. The sauce was good and fresh tasting. We made up our own pizza- mushroom with half Italian sausage and half spinach. I was so excited to be able to order spinach as a topping since not many places offer it. Another bonus- if you register and order online you get 20% off your first order. This is a great alternative to the boring delivery chains. read more

I had 2 slices, plain cheese and olives/mushroom/jalapeño on the other. Pizza is pretty average. The waiting staff was really nice though and slices were reasonably priced. When I dine in or carryout, I'm totally satisfied with the pizza (I especially like the crust!) and the service. I placed an order online once, and was called a few minutes later and told about a special they had that eventually made my order a lot cheaper, which was much appreciated! However, I've found delivery lacking. We ordered a pizza and cheese fries; while everything arrived when they said it would, the pizza was warmish, and the cheese fries were room temperature and congealed into a nice solid mass. I LOVE this place. Every time I'm in Friendship Heights, I have to stop and get pizza no matter what. My favorite is the three cheese pizza. Every time I have it, it gets better and better. Stopped in here for Lafayette Elementary School's Fundraiser a few days ago. My Fiance is a new teacher this year and we wanted to take the time to show our support. The staff is extremely attentive and the location is super convenient. Right next to the Friendship Heights Metro and they have outdoor seating. We ordered Sodas and a Half Cheese/half Hawaiian Pizza with a Salad to share. We were talking with a few of the families when our food came out in what seemed like no time at all. The salad was fresh and full of flavor. The pizza was perfectly cooked and the half with toppings was piled high (like it should be). A very pleasant experience all around. read more

My family played tourists for 4 nights in DC and stayed near Friendship. Maybe it was the 5-10 miles of walking each day, but after a day of sightseeing we stopped here for dinner. We dined in. First thing to notice is the prices are very reasonable for DC. 2nd thing is they serve Coke. Since this is a local chain, this was our first time at a Potomac Pizza. Reliable family-style pizza joint....suitable for families, or groups, or even if you are by yourself. The staff is generally upbeat. This is not gourmet dining. The menu has that "focus group feel:" just slightly offbeat, like a broadcast network TV show, without challenging the customers' views of what food could be, or should be. But the pizza is a good deal for the price. The front glass windows provide an entertaining vista over the sidewalk crowds. The TV is almost always tuned to football games, when I go there. Thankfully, the sound is low, so if it's not a game you're interested in, it's not obtrusive. Pizza purists will have to keep looking. Excellent local pizza restaurant for families. The pizza is quite good -- not world changing, but really good. They are very family friendly. In each of the 3 times I've been here, half the customers have been families with children, and nobody batted an eye when we walked our baby around to look at the holiday decorations, etc. The atmosphere is laid back but the wait staff is engaged and attentive. Yikes, I'm shocked to see the poor reviews! The service can be slow sometimes (b/c it's often packed) and PotPiz is definitely more expensive than a fast food chain pizza store, but the great pizza makes up for it. I've gone here literally a dozen times over the last 4 years and have always been very pleased with the food. I would absolutely recommend as a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. I decided to order food on my lunch break. It was prepared in a reasonable time and the restaurant is very clean and well taken care of. It receives two stars for the following reasons: price & customer service. I had ordered only a cheeseburger with ketchup and french fries. This costed $14.82 before tip. That is a very uncompetitive price point; and the serving size was not large either to compensate. When I received my food there was no cheese on my sandwich like I had ordered. The customer before me got into a dispute with the staff at the counter and while the customer was being rude, the way the staff also acted was not appropriate and it created a chilling effect where I did not want to say anything about my food being incorrect. The burger was very tasty however. The beef and bun were good quality. Fries could be better, but I still found the price not acceptable. I don't foresee myself returning. read more

Dear Adam, I am surprised that someone who owns such a successful business could sound so uneducated and childish when responding to reviews. When someone complains about getting 3 bites of veal for $14, the appropriate response is to fix the problem, not apologize that the "food doesn't fit in you budget [sic]." The veal parm is skimpy, but not as much as you are squirmy. You overcharge for crap food, and you should fix that instead of trying to convince your customers they are wrong. You may have a "93% approval rating" on groupon, but keep in mind that's when the price is cut in half. You have 3/5 stars on here, buddy, and I think they're being generous. We walked in for dinner on a Saturday. Hardly anyone was there. I didn't think that was a good sign, but plenty of people came in to order take out. Since we were unable to order the White Pizza (they were out of one/some of the ingredients). However, we were able to add black olives and garlic to the Three Cheese and it was quite good! So, judging by the wide distribution of reviews here, I'm getting the impression that this restaurant is incredibly inconsistent. However, every time I go there (which is not rare), I have good pizza, so I tend to think instead that people don't agree on what makes a good pizza. The pizza is very cheesy, and its definitely got some grease. Its probably not the healthiest food out there, but it tastes great. If you like your dough a little crispier, ask for the pizza well done. It won't be burnt, just a little crispier. The greek and grilled chicken caesar salads are delicious, as are the pasta and the buffalo wings. Just remember to take this pizza place for what it is. It is not gourmet, foodie-targeted pizza. It is a place to take your kids for a pizza party, grab a slice or two and a beer on the way home from work, or get food for a football game. It isn't anything more, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more. Oh, and also a note on delivery. Their standard delivery times are 45 - 60 minutes, but this does not mean the pizza won't get there in 30 minutes; they just cant GUARANTEE that it will. On Friday and Saturday nights, if they are backed up, they might raise the time to as long as 90 minutes (though 75 is more likely, and even that occurs rarely in my experience), though again, it might get there sooner, they just can't promise it will. But it's always 10 to 15 minutes for pickup, no matter how busy they are. read more

This place is not good and I am not from the Midwest. Their pizzas would not live up to any foodie in my opinion. Would Bobby Flay ever have a throw down with this place? Hell no! My homemade pizza on my pizza stone and oven is 100xs better than this place. Even Digiornos might be better lol The only good I can say about this place, is that some of their pizzas are creative like the mexican pizza. If you have kids this place is a good place to take them. The pizza is a little over priced but I would pay the extra few dollars and eat here than at a Domino's. The atmosphere is that of a large fast food chain pizza restaurant. I enjoyed my Nelson Eddie pizza which had anchovies, black olives, Canadian bacon, green peppers, ground beef, mushrooms, onions, pepperoni and Italian sausage. The toppings were added on after the cheese so it appears the veggies weren't cooked but they were it just wasn't cooking in cheese that people seemed to be having fits about in their reviews. I love veggies and I welcomed the overflowing toppings. The pizza wasn't greasy and the crust was a typical large chain pizza crust but it wasn't oily. I really wanted to like this place but I just cant and don't like it at all. My 1st experience with P.P. was when a coworker came back to the office with a huge pizza for anyone who wanted some and it was pretty good. So I met some friends there about a week later to sit down and have lunch and it was not a good experience. I ordered the grilled chicken salad...first it took about 20 mins for our food to get to us (they had some kitchen issue), then when I got my salad it was basically a big ass bowl of lettuce, 3 tomato slices and sliced grilled chicken and that's it! No nothing else extra, I had to ask for some cheese and mushrooms and when I also asked for some broccoli they tried to charge me but after seeing my face, they let that slide. So needless to say the salad was horrible. Then I went back again to order some buffalo wings and fries....when the girl told me the price would be $11.65 for 8 wings and a small side of fries (no drink) I chuckled and just walked out. I know its Chevy Chase but they must be crazy! My last hoorah came yestreday when I went back cause I had a taste for a steak n cheese. I look at the menu it says $6.99 for the sandwich. I ask the guy ringing me up does the sandwich come with fries (he must have been new and didn't know a damn thing about prices) but with the help of his coworker I was told no. I would have to either order a small or large fry separate or get the sand which, fries and small drink combo. I ask for the combo and once again, it was almost 12 bucks. Wow, what a great experience! Decided to get some pizza with a friend before catching a movie at Mazza AMC, and was very impressed with Potomac Pizza. The atmosphere is clean and open; high ceilings with plenty of seating, and it's really nice that the take-out area is separate from the dining room. Our server, Andy, was clearly experienced. Water glasses were always full, and our orders came out right when he said they would. On recommendation, I ordered a personal-sized Mexican pizza: regular crust with re-fried beans, monterey jack and cheddar, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, and tomato, plus I added ground beef and jalepeno peppers. SO DELICIOUS, and quite filling. I love Mexican food and pizza, and this was a harmonious blend of the two, I've never tasted anything like it! Next time I'll get it with extra cheese. My friend got the Hawaiian pizza, which I tasted. The pineapple was fresh and the Canadian bacon was thick-cut and flavorful, not too salty. The red sauce on the pizza tasted great too. We didn't order beer, but it looks like they have a good selection both on tap and by the bottle, along with great Thursday night drink specials. We'll be back many times, I'm sure. read more

Overly pricey, overly doughy and so saucy the cheese slides right off. I ordered mozzarella and basil and they put big raw basil leaves on top of the cheese then into a 500 degree oven, so by the time it came out there was just charred foliage. A small salad here is absolutly CRAMMED into a plastic container - extract it into a mixing bowl and you'll have salad for days! Pizza located near a bunch of high end clothing stores is bound to have expensive prices, so seeing a 20 dollar pizza wasn't surprising. I ordered a individual pizza that cost 10 dollars. The dough was hand tossed and the toppings were fresh. The people I went with got pasta and sandwiches and shared another pizza. I went here for lunch and got the lunch special - two slices of pizza and a salad. The pizza was practically raw, the cheese on it just barely melted. I also had Canadian bacon topping on the pizza and since it was practically raw I wasn't sure if they cooked the meat to the right temperature, so had to pick all the meat off just to be safe. The pizza without the canadian bacon on it was ok. The salad was wilted and brown. I don't even eat that brown of salad leaves at home, so I don't know why they would think it's acceptable to serve that bad of lettuce when someone is paying for it. They were incredibly busy for lunch and I did receive my order quickly. However I'd rather it take a little longer and be a fresh salad and cooked pizza than just slamming out poor quality food. If your idea of a great veggie pizza is a cheese pizza with cold, uncooked veggies heaped on top, this is the place for you. Seriously, what are they thinking at Potomac? Yes, there were a lot of veggies on our $22 large pizza, so many that they slid off into the box every time we lifted a slice. That's because all of the veggies were on top of the cheese, not cooked under a layer of cheese as you might expect. And these raw veggies were so cold they made our hot pizza tepid in minutes. The whole mess was practically inedible. We'd saved up to try this place because we knew it was expensive. Expensive and bad, as it turns out. I swear I never get sick of eating at this place. Potomac Pizza in chevy chase has some of the finest quality foods I have tasted in any Italian restaurant. Im not even kidding, I choose this place over the more expensive fine dining restaurants in the area. My favorite pizza on the menu is the Nelson Eddie pizza. I cant get enough of it. I hold off on the anchovies of clues cause its not my thing but everything else is out together so well. And for a pizza that has so many toppings, it cooks so well all around. I also love the plain jane cheese pizza when im in the mood to really taste the basic delicious ingredients that make their pizza so great. Some of my other favorite menu items are the chicken Parmesan sup (i sub the parm cheese for mozzarella of course) and their tuna steak is amazing. Also every one of their appetizers are so freaking good. I cant believe for the quality of food and amount you get, they charge you much less than they should. Its the most amazing value especially for the area. Now let me get to my most favorite thing about this place. The staff is all so amazing and professional and clean. The facility is so perfect you think you are dining out in a movie. Unbelievably warm hospitality and too notch service. These guys are a great team serving some of the best food in our area. If i lived closer id be there every single day and never get sick of it because their quality is so good and fresh, plush they have such a wide range of things to order on the menu that for everyones taste.
