Lots of fun flavors here! Definitely on the pricey side for the satisfaction though. It's a super light dessert, but found it almost too light (definitely lighter than other taiwanese shaved ice places). If you blew on it, it went flying. Just wasn't the most satisfying because it didn't feel super flavorful because of how light it was. read more

I've been looking for a place for Taiwanese shaved ice in the city, I'm glad I found this place! Came here on a Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM and there were a few other people there, which meant that the tiny shop was crowded. There's one bench by the window to sit, so you'd probably want to take this to go. The staff were super nice about explaining the menu and the different flavors. I got the guava shave ice with passion fruit syrup, and the guava flavor was so strong! I was completely expecting it to be diminished because of the nature of shaved ice, but it shone through. Definitely want to come back to try the other flavors! read more

Good taiwanese shaved ice spot. Got the kids size and it was actually a decent size so I think their portions are pretty big. I didn't really taste the cereal milk as much it was kind of just like vanilla to me. read more

Great fast casual, customizable dessert spot in lower haight! They have a huge list of flavors and tons of toppings you can choose from and the biggest bonus is that the toppings are unlimited! Service was pretty quick for my friends and I on a weekday night, it is a small store with very little space so take that into consideration when there might be a wait. It's so cool to be able to watch them turn your ice cream into snow and the consistency is just right and reminded me of my trip to Taiwan. read more

TLDR: not my thing (texture) but delicious nonetheless My partner saw this on Reddit and decided she wanted to try it so we made our way over. Empty on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm so service was super quick. Got my snow less than 2 minutes after ordering. I ordered a cereal killer with mochi added and although the flavor and topping was spot on, I didn't love it strictly because of the texture and density. My partner ordered a passion fruit snow with waffle cookie crumble and a tamarind straw. Not a fan of passion fruit but that combo hit, the spicy sweetness of the tamarind with the tartness of the passion fruit was just right. We finished our desserts on the bench inside as ppl filtered as some indie music played in the background. I wouldn't say no to come back for another flavor but I wouldn't go out of my way personally. read more

Powder reminds me of the shaved ice I used to get with my friends - milky, thin and not too sickly sweet. I love how airy Taiwanese style shaved ice is and this place had soo many flavors and topping options, I was pretty overwhelmed. I got the cereal flavor one and I liked it with the addition of condensed milk and fruity pebbles. I do wish the store front was bigger as there was no real place to sit and enjoy your snow. It's decently priced, but if you have a craving for Taiwanese shaved ice I would go here. read more

Refreshing, light, and open late! Generous portions, the kid's size ($5) is enough if you're just looking for a sweet treat to end the night. Wide flavor variety and super quick service! We ordered the strawberry with sweet milk glaze and cereal snow with cinnamon toast crunch topping. The sweet milk glaze was essentially condensed milk and added the perfect amount of sweetness. I only wish they added a little bit more. The cereal snow tasted exactly like the milk from a bowl of honey nut cheerios! I recently stopped by Powder and really enjoyed the unique take they have on ice cream. Small shop with a mighty menu. I believe there is only a bench for seating inside, but it's still a good spot to hit up after dinner if you're looking to satisfy a "I want a sweet treat, but not too sweet" craving. Portions are as-expected for the price. My favorite snow topping, mochi, was soft and fluffy. The strawberry snow (I think) has milk, so I'll probably order the guava next time, as I tend to prefer sorbet flavors. Bring a jacket to eat outside - SF summers are chilly! read more

Stopped by after dinner with a friend! Tiny little storefront with a few tables of outdoor seating. Staff was great in helping me choose a small Earl Grey, no toppings. The snow itself was airy and very strongly flavored, but more pleasantly than anything. Nowadays, sub-$5 for any dessert is a deal, so props for that as well. Will be back! read more

I love the selection of flavors and toppings they had! You can do a half/ half scoop though only in the large, which makes sense cause it takes time to create the shaved ice. It's a nice cute small shop and it smelled amazing walking in because the workers were making croffles- something they also sell there. I got the black sesame w/ condense milk, mochi and strawberries & they made it so quickly. Super delicious and refreshing! I enjoyed it all:) def will come back to try other flavors! read more

Powder is such a gem. I always forget about it and then go back and wonder why I'm not here all the time. The shaved snow is so light and melty, almost better than ice cream honestly. I've had the black sesame which I'm super picky about and they do it so well. Ube is also a fave. Get toppings. They totally make it. The combos are thoughtful, the flavors are clean, and it never feels too sweet or heavy. One of my favorite dessert spots in SF, hands down. read more

Really wanted to love this place after seeing influencers rave about it online. The shop itself is quite small with limited seating areas but a great neighborhood to walk around. The service was kinda neutral. Not warm. Not cold. The dessert itself was an experience. Love love love! It's so hard to find fluffy snow ice (which is a style of Taiwanese shaved ice inspired by the Japanese kakigori). This place does it so well. The ice is so fluffy and melts perfectly in your mouth. You can pick two flavors for the large size. We got guava and pineapple. The ice block itself is already infused with the flavor so once it's shaved, they don't add anything it's just the flavored ice itself. You can add topping if preferred but I personally like eating it the way it is especially on a hot summer day. read more

I came to Powder (Shaved Snow) on a Tuesday night with a friend. Even though I like the blue and white aesthetic on their menu, it was a bit difficult for my friend and I to read. We ordered a regular sized Thai Tea Snow with waffle cookie crumbles and toasted marshmallows as our toppings. After receiving our order promptly along with a free postcard that I asked for, we sat down on the one bench available in this small location. The texture of the ice cream/shaved ice reminded me of my childhood days of trying some fresh snow in the winter. The "snow" was made in front of us, and it tasted quite fresh. After a filling dinner, my friend and I felt that one regular sized snow was good for the both of us. The thai tea flavor was not too sweet and also not too cold for an autumn night in SF. Stumbled upon powder when I was in the neighborhood and was excited to try it when I found out they served Taiwanese style shaved ice. I was pleasantly surprised and come back when ever I am in the neighborhood. Its not super authentic in the flavors and toppings they offer but that's ok because I'm not all that big of a fan of red beans and mung beans anyway. The shaved ice is delicious and my family really loves it. They offer a number of flavors as a base and extras can be added as toppings. They do offer a waffle cone and I would recommend having that. Would be nice to see more fruit options and condensed milk as a topping. Seatting inside is limited to a bench and there is a few tables outside. read more

Shaved ice was amazing. We ordered the Horchata and the Matcha Green Tea, both topped with sweet milk. They were soooo good! The reason I don't give them 5 stars is because of the service. We got there 8:45pm, 15 mins before closing time and my daughter said "Hi" to the girl there only to be greeted by a side-eye and an eye-roll from her. So not nice! We immediately felt uncomfortable and kind of ruined the experience. Ambiance was ok. The place is super small with almost no space to sit down inside. It was ok for a quick and easy dessert though, mainly bc of the service. It would have been an amazing experience otherwise. read more

Was in the area with a friend and decided to come try powder again for a sweet treat! Went over at around 4 pm on a Saturday and this time I noticed their new and seasonal flavors. We took a little time to order and the service was very fast once again but the staff was rude. They lightly yelled at my friend from across the shop to finish the tip screen and didn't seem very interested when we were ordering our items. Kid Size Passionfruit Snow with Sweet Milk Glaze, Organic Strawberries and Mochi - Decided to get the kid size and it was more of a perfect size for me as a small dessert. The passion fruit flavor came through, wasn't too strong and it was still creamy as before. The toppings added different textures and the organic strawberries were sweeter and not frozen this time. I love the concept of the single serving, build your own shaved ice but the service I am a little iffy on. read more

Great little spot that satisfied our sweet cravings after spending a whole day hiking out in Mt.Tam. Even though it was cold out, we decided to grab some snow ice because this stuff always hits. We weren't the only one thinking the same because after we ordered, there was a line out the door... They had a variety of flavors and toppings to choose from. I got the horchata with some mochi and azuki beans on top. It wasn't too sweet, which was great - only wished for the fresh mochi balls. They have outdoor seating, not much room inside. Totally completely in LOVE with powder. The shaved ice is so soft and fluffy it feels like a cloud. They also have a ton of different flavors and toppings you can try! The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

I had came here a few days ago, almost a week ago and I ordered a cereal killer, it was absolutely amazing! I loved the consistency of the snow and the sweet milk glaze along with the crunch of fruity pebbles was outstanding. The service was great, there were 2 girls working who were very sweet and respectful and an older lady with them. Although, I would give it 3 stars because the lady who was working with the girls was not really nice to them. I'm assuming she's the manager and I couldn't help but listen to their conversation because she was getting frustrated at one of the girls for a small fixable mistake. She raised her voice and had an attitude. It caught other customers attention and how I know is because I heard one of them whisper to their partner, "Why is she getting so mad at her." I couldn't help but ask the girl if she was okay because she looked so embarrassed and was about to cry. I told her, hey everyone makes mistakes and it's okay to do so. I felt so bad and wanted to speak to the lady about it because those girls do not deserve to get treated like that. They aren't perfect and neither are we, we make mistakes but that doesn't give you the right to treat them poorly just because they don't meet your satisfaction. Literally, once you put a scoop of this deliciously sweet powder in your mouth, the ice flakes instantly melt and sooth your tongue. The flavors then mesh and travel across your tongue and gives off the tingling sensation of how good this stuff is. I have had shaved ice that was not flakey at all. As a matter a fact, sometimes, I have had chunks of ice in the middle of my snow. I have to say my favorite is the green tea with the mochi and condensed milk, which is the classic. But Powder does change it up once in a while to keep up with the seasons. Sometimes they have pumpkin, strawberry, sesame and Vietnamese Coffee! Overall, there is not a long line, but for a small cup that amounts to $7 out the door, it can get a bit price for what really boils down to flavored water. Good flavored water! We went to Powder recently for a quick dessert stop and it was pretty great. We opted to order a large size and chose Thai tea and Earl grey for the flavors. We also opted to add toasted marshmallows and mochi as toppings. I'd say customer service was good, despite the shop only having 1 person working. They have seating outdoors and a small bench indoors. While the shop is cramped and on the small side, we were happy with the shaved snow and would return. Definitely recommend trying this spot for a refreshing and enjoyable treat! read more

SERVICE COMPLAINT: I love powder!! I go here pretty often but 8/10 times im served by this RUDE ASS EYELASH lady. I don't write yelp reviews and when I do have a bad experience w staff, i normally give them the benefit of the doubt but if it happens 8/10 times w the same person then its just a personality issue. Great shaved ice. i am not much of a big fanb of shaved ice I basiclally went there for her.They had a wide variety of flavours to choose from . I stuck to basic mango and passion fruit. The only issue was the flavour finished readlly fast and all i was left at the end was plain Ice. I dont know if i ate it too fast or if thats how shaved ice has to be but that was my opinion! Absolutely loved this place!! I usually don't get regular sized desserts always go for child's size. That wasn't an option at powder so I ordered the regular size and OMG it was soooo good!! I actually finished it all. I ordered Vietnamese coffee with mochi and chocolate sauce and it worth all the calories. Highly recommend. I would drive all the way to Divisadero for this. read more

Powder been my quick local ice cream run when I'm in the area. I love the different seasonal favorite and the vegan options. My favorite is the Mexican chocolate shaved snow topped. There's no option to sit in so it's a take out place and it does get pretty busy fast on the weekends. Enjoyed my time there. read more

We arrived around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday and waited until approximately 12:30 p.m. before we were able to place our order and receive our baked goods. We ordered one of everything, so it was a fairly large order. When we received our boxes, we realized that three pastries were missing. We had to go back and forth with the staff three separate times about the missing items, and each time we were told they would be added. Thankfully, we checked both boxes before leaving, because otherwise we would have accidentally left behind another $30-$40 worth of pastries (we spent over $100). This was especially stressful because we came with two young toddlers who obviously needed supervision. After already waiting more than two hours, having to double-check the boxes and repeatedly go back to the staff was overwhelming. It also made me wonder why, with a large order, everything was packed so tightly into such a small box. Unfortunately, the way the pastries were packed also seemed to affect the flavors. When I ate the black sesame cookie, I could taste green onion from the salt bread. Other pastries also seemed to have picked up flavors from one another, which made it difficult to properly appreciate the individual taste and quality of each pastry. We also tried the original salted bread, which unfortunately tasted quite greasy to me, with hints of black sesame and chocolate mixed in. After waiting that long, I found myself wondering whether the experience was worth it. One thing I also found confusing was the ordering/packing process. There was one person placing pastries onto a tray and another person transferring them from the tray into the box. I wonder if the process could be simplified by placing each pastry directly into the box and then having someone check the completed order against the receipt. That might help reduce mistakes and make the process more efficient. To be fair, the pastries are good, and I can understand why people are willing to wait for them. But for me personally, a 2+ hour experience, including roughly an hour and a half or more in line, is difficult to justify--especially when there are order mistakes and the pastries end up picking up flavors from one another. I hope the pop-up considers improving the ordering, packing, and quality-control process because I do think there is a lot of potential here. The pastries are good; I just don't think the current experience makes the wait worthwhile for me.

Pineapple King Bakery is a takeout suite in the Outer Sunset district. There was no available seating inside or outside. You can save time by preordering online and then coming by to pick up your goodies. Parking was really tough in this area with all of the curbside metered spots occupied. The line wasn't too bad when I stopped by on a weekend afternoon. Posters showing some of the different products were placed on the front windows along with a copy of the menu. You ordered at the service counter that was just a few feet inside the front entrance. Several of the baked goods were on display inside the glass case underneath the counter. A larger menu board hung behind the counter. You could see the army of workers busy in the kitchen preparing different items. Pineapple buns/puffs (bolo baos) of multiple varieties were the stars of the show. Buns with other fillings like BBQ pork, hot dog, coconut cream, etc were also available. Egg tarts, some pastries, and drinks (e.g. milk tea) rounded out the main categories. Combo boxes allowed for larger quantities to be purchased. Coming from the southern most part of this state, we don't have anywhere near the choices for pineapple buns like they have here. I purchased a Deluxe Box to give as a gift for my relatives. It consisted of four mini pineapple buns... Original Pineapple Puff, Matcha Pineapple Puff, Mango Pineapple Puff, Mini Pineapple Bun with butter. For myself, I bought a Pineapple Bun with guava butter, a BBQ Pork Pineapple Bun, and a Pineapple Bun with custard. The total for everything was less than twenty dollars, and the business accepted cash only. The pineapple buns had a milk bread base topped with a crackly, golden cookie-like crust. They were soft and of a decent size for the respective prices. The version with the guava butter was warmed up by the kitchen. They recommended that I consume it right away to appreciate the decadent butter. In hindsight, my only regret was not ordering at least one of the egg tart types to taste and compare to what's available in my hometown. I gave a 4.5 star rating for the products I sampled at Pineapple King Bakery and rounded up.

The caramel was tasty, but I wasn't sure it went together well with the sesame, as both flavors tend to be overpowering. It also fell apart easily. There were a few other items that caught my eye (guava chocolate milk?!), so I might be back to check them out.
