This was a second choice for breakfast as we left Grants Pass for home. Thank goodness the first place was too crowded because this place is a piece of heaven. 8 booths, about 8 tables, seating at the counter, dog water bowl outside, and the waitresses know their customer's names. Napkins with drawings from thankful patrons adorn the walls. The cinnamon rolls are gone early, and they must be extremely good, because the rest of the food was. Neither of us could finish our breakfast, overflowing plates with omelets, scrambled, sausage (oh yum) and omg hash browns. They sure don't skimp on the toast butter, either. read more

I guess I'm gonna have to say it was just OK. The service was really good our wait person was very sweet and she was attentive but it took over 30 minutes for the two of us to get our breakfast. I ordered the breakfast croissant sandwich, which was burnt. I would go back if that was my only option but here in Grants Pass there are plenty of options for a good breakfast. This was a lovely oasis on the way from the Oregon Country Fair back to San Francisco - we drove down the main drag of Grant's Pass, past the Denny's and the McDonald's, until my spider sense for food started tingling. We came for lunch. The food was typical diner food, and we would have been pleased if it weren't for the fact that the salad meal that we ordered had lettuce that was turning brown around the edges. Some of the leaves had even started breaking down and turning rotten. Fortunately the wait-staff struck the salad dish from the bill and were very apologetic. --- Warm, super-friendly service but food just didn't agree with me --- Pros + Cute atmosphere inside. Lots of those signs that people put up in their kitchens like "Dessert is Stressed spelled backwards", etc. I like that -- may not be your thing. (BTW, I didn't see any reference to the religious sayings on walls or on menus that a previous review commented on.) + Waitresses and cooks are super super friendly. And it's genuine. + Good size portions. + The hash browns are indeed cooked from scratch. Cons - I didn't like anything I ate, but it could just be my tastes. I ordered the special hash browns (hash browns, grilled onions and peppers, cheddar/jack mixture, mushroom gravy over the whole thing). The hash browns had an off-taste -- almost as if the cooking oil was old. The cheese was thick but something seemed off about that as well. The mushroom gravy was about the only thing that didn't have an off taste and even then, it wasn't great. I tried my wife's chili omelette and it seemed good but had a liver-ey aftertaste. I kept trying it because I wanted to like it. - They have pie and was super excited to order some. But must have caught them at a bad time of week -- their selection was limited. Was super excited to try out lemon sour cream pie (I'm a sucker for any pie with sour cream in it), but they were out -- not unexpected -- it's a pretty exotic flavor) but they were also out of apple, cherry, peach. Those are some pretty classic pies that I would have expected to be in stock. - The pie I got -- banana with vanilla, chocolate and a number of other things was just ok. The banana tasted artificial -- I don't think it was but I wish that something had stood out in the pie. Kicker is, I would definitely go back. My son and I stopped at the Powderhorn to get brunch on our way from PDX to SFO. We were attracted by the "cafe and pie" on the window. Neither one of us got pie although it looked great. French toast, eggs, toast and potatoes and coffee. were all great. Fast and friendly service. Very laid back and super inexpensive. Next time we will try the pie. read more

I'm rather meticulous and can usually find one small fault with most any meal. Not here however. My meal of eggs Benedict was flawless. So, while the menue seemed a bit limited. This is a shining example of a classic breakfast diner. Their biscuits and gravy are fantastic, with country style gravy almost as thick as the biscuit itself. Good quality bacon, not thick cut, but very tasty. The French toast is found a little lacking as it is just white bread with an egg batter, but the flavor is nice (well spiced). I would love to see the quality of this item improve, but every thing else I have had here is great! The service is WONDERFUL!!! The wait staff are so friendly and sweet, always making sure that things are to your liking. I was a little confused the first time I came in, because it seems to be a seat yourself kind of a place, but there is no sign and the staff do not stop to direct you to a table or even let you know to sit wherever you'd like. I love going to this place for good comfort food but this experience was anything but comfortable. I ordered hash browns with gravy and they put way too much gravy on top making them mushy and unappetizing. When we get the check the bill is 10 dollars more than what the total should've been, so we leave enough money for the right total plus enough for a tip. The waitress had the audacity to chase us out of the restaurant saying we didn't pay enough, after looking over the bill 3 times! I'm not sure if her math was off or she was trying to get more of a tip for herself but it was overall just sketchy. For those still deciding to come here despite the waitresses not being able to pass their high school math classes, ask for the gravy on the side. read more

A popular local diner with standard fare. I had the Roast Beef Melt. Fortunately, they had no more french fries so I got navy bean and ham soup on the side and an ice tea. The sandwich included chopped peppers with thin slices of beef and a slice of cheese between toasted white bread and a side of horseradish sauce. It was good as was the cup of soup. Since the restaurant advertisers its pies, I ordered a slice of peach pie. Although peaches are in season now, the baker used frozen peaches--better than canned. The crust was thick and tasty and the pie was full of peaches--very good. The meal came to just under $20 with tip. The wait staff are friendly and efficient; the ambience is casual. read more

One of the best breakfasts we've had for the price. We are here in Grant's Pass for a few days to visit our daughters and see the sights--the Rogue River, Crater Lake. Drove by this little place the first day in the afternoon then looked up the yelp reviews and they were all good so drove over the next morning around 11:30. I had the bacon and eggs. Hash browns were plentiful and crispy on the outside-you could tell they were hand cut. The bacon was thick and meaty- crispy yet tender. My med over eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband had sausage links and eggs and said his was tasty. He also had a home made biscuit. I tried some and it was yumm-o. Friendly staff. Food took awhile to come out though. read more

This is our 'go to' place for good homestyle cooking! Their breakfasts are legendary, huge and ALL American. It's at least a half hour drive for us, but we go as often as possible, usually every other month-and have been doing that for at least ten years. The help is spectacularly efficient, remember everything you like, even after just a few visits. We stopped here twice recently ... just for the pies! Lightest, most buttery crust ever. Too bad mine was filled with canned peaches. My husbands strawberry rhubarb was all fresh though. All the food and the service here is very very good the only problem is their orange juice is the worst I've ever tasted anywhere on a consistent basis. They need to change whoever supply the orange juice, its horrible. That's a minor thing though. If you like orange juice it can be pretty major and my family loves orange juice with breakfast. A great family greasy spoon. All your favorite breakfast foods. Good quality and a lot of it. My boyfriend and I share a plate between us and it is just the perfect amount of food. My husband and I came for breakfast during the week and was pleasantly surprised. I read some reviews beforehand to check that it was worth our money; it definitely was! We love a good greasy diner! My husband's breakfast was by far the better of the 2. He ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns, 2 eggs and a biscuit. My breakfast was as good, not great, but worth the price: French toast and 2 sausage links. The French toast needed some cinnamon, but was very good otherwise. Our total was about $25, which I think was fair for the quantity and quality. My biggest problem was with their soda machine. They claimed to have Diet Coke, but it was Coke Zero. Which to most people isn't a big deal, but I am diabetic, not just looking for fewer calories. Overall, if we're back in town for breakfast, we will definitely be back! read more
