How in the hell does this place have ANY good ratings?? Stopped in for breakfast on my way back home this morning. I came here because a quick Google search gave it high marks. I'm a fan of supporting local establishments, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Big mistake. I had the daily special which was the Country Scramble. It was advertised on their reader board out front as a mixture of homestyle potatoes, topped with eggs, gravy, etc. What a mess. It was nothing more than a bunch of flavorless frozen cubed potatoes dumped out of a bag, fried up with some peppers & onions. The scrambled eggs were OK, but they were drowning in cheese. Glad I ordered the gravy on the side. Gravy was bland. I mean REALLY bland. And for all this and a cup of coffee, I shelled out $20.00. I wish I had just stopped at McDonalds and gotten an Egg McMuffin or something, It would have cost less than half, and tasted 2x better. Won't be going back. read more

My boyfriend and I found this place one day exploring. We decided to give it a try and oh my lanta. The food is to die for. It's home cooked, the atmosphere is one of those places you walk into and just know the food is going to be good. We arrived on a Sunday morning during peak breakfast hours, We were seated by the servers and were quick to take the order, but it took about 45 mins to get the food, even when the cafe was not full. The restaurant had plenty of servers, but the kitchen was so slow. The food was average. I would not try this place again. read more

Powderhorn used to have exceptional food. What happened? Sausage gravy is bland, omelets aren't great and they say they are famous for their homemade hash browns. Try squeezing the liquid out of the grated spuds and let them air dry a bit. You might get non gummy and starchy hash browns. Believe they use frozen cubed potatoes for their home style potatoes. This is my favorite place to come for breakfast, the restaurant gives off an old diner vibe I dig it. The wait staff is very friendly and won't let you go thirsty. If you finish your glass of water before they come to take your order bam they give you 3 more glasses lol. The food is very good and it is not expensive. Even when the place is completely packed I've never had to wait for more than 7-8 minutes for the food to be made and served. Highly recommend for a relaxing breakfast read more

After being closed for over a year (COVID), Powderhorn has re-opened with new hours (closed Mon & Tue). It was sad to drive by and see this place shut down for so long, but now it's great to have them back open for business. The Powderhorn Cafe is a "fixture" here in Grants Pass and has a special place in my heart for breakfast fare. Having eaten here a couple of times since re-opening, my first impression is the time off has elevated their food! I did note that the chicken fried steak isn't as big as before, but it didn't disappoint as it was super tasty. Service is also fast and friendly, and Tina the owner is always there to help, not to mention bake their amazing pies and cinnamon rolls. Much of the staff is the same as before, keeping the kitchen and table service moving smoothly. Perhaps their best offering is their huge cinnamon roll! It's as big as a dinner plate and comes up warm if you get their before 9:00AM. This is one of my favorite places to eat. The staff is really what keeps me coming back. The menu could include more choices, but they will make you anything you ask for. This was one of the first places we went when we moved here. My dad moved with us from SoCal. He went there every morning. It was his "hangout". One of the Servers (she's the soul of this cafe really), is Debbe. Nearly every year she gets voted as the BEST SERVER IN TOWN. My Dad passed in 2012, but there he is painted in the mural at the end of the building. He"s the balding guy in the blue shirt in the front window. I was in town with my husband for work and had to try this place because all of the great reviews. When we pulled up, I thought "oh god" because the place is kinda a DIVE on the outside but upon entering it became very clear that this is where the community eats. And for good reason! Out server was very charismatic. The cinnamon roll was absolutely enormous. I split an omelette with somebody and they plated it in the kitchen as a split which was appreciated. The structure of the menu is a little odd. There isn't a basic starting point of just eggs followed by eggs and potatoes followed by eggs, potatoes and meat. Instead it's mostly a semi random collection of items. I was very curious what 'ranch eggs' were but it turns out that ranch eggs are... eggs. One of my first meal experiences after moving to the Rogue River valley was the Powderhorn Cafe. I've always enjoyed my meals here, whether eggs over easy with home-made biscuits and perfectly crunchy hash browns or items from the lunch menu. Every time I've been here the place has been jumping so its obvious people love coming here. I downgrade my review rating because I think there can be an improvement made in the kitchen area and the handling of plates and utensils before they're used to serve their customers. As a restaurant manager with 10 years experience I look at food handling practices as much as I prepare to munch into my food. Watching one of the kitchen staff handling knives with his bare hand, with his hand touching several knife blades, as he placed the items into the knife insert at the waitress station was alarming if only because all restaurants should be aware of how they protect us during this time of covid. Powderhorn Cafe was super-busy when we arrived. The staff were very attentive to our needs; coffee filled without prompting... and how I left without ordering one of their giant cinnamon buns is beyond my understanding. That being said... I recommend a complete review of how every plate, mug, cutlery, and menu is put before their customer with the goal of eliminating the chance to promote spreading any virus as well as food-borne illnesses. read more

I wanted to wait until I tried the place a couple times at least before leaving a review. Believe me when I say I am a big fan of local diners anywhere I go. It's very nostalgic for me to eat at one as I worked at a diner as a teen and have a lot of fond memories of that experience. I decided to give a middle of the road 3 stars, mostly because both times the food I had was kind of lackluster. The first time I tried the food I had a grilled chicken salad, however the chicken did not taste grilled it tasted boiled. Although a fairly healthy option, not my cup of tea. The second time I got the bacon and eggs breakfast. The bacon was nice and the eggs were cooked right, but everything was soaked in grease. There was an enormous amount of hash browns on the plate, but again really greasy. This kind of turned me off, but flavor wise everything was okay, and if you don't mind a lot of grease, you would like the portions for sure. Coffee was strong and they kept our cups filled. read more

Since my motel didn't start serving breakfast until 8, and I wanted to get an early start for the next leg of my road trip, I decided to try this place, which was on my way. I went in there knowing what I what (and hoping that they had it), so when I sat down I just asked my waitress if they had the strawberry pancakes. And yes, they did. Well, like at least one other reviewer said, they were the best strawberry pancakes I've ever had in my life! My only problem, I wasn't able to finish all of it. :-( An excellent breakfast, at a very good price. I came here on vacation while I was visiting my best friend. There aren't a lot of selections in Grants Pass that are worth noting, but this place is outstanding. I got the biscuits & gravy w/ two eggs. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the biscuit was definitely homemade and the gravy should've been served in a large mug so I could drink it down. The breakfast was fenomenal, there was no shortage of gravy on the biscuits. The staff was even more on point.

Cinnamon roll was big and good (I don't think I would die for it as some reviews have said but it was good.)
