We wanted to replace our old gas hot water heater, as the pilot light continuously kept going out and a lot of times in the mornings we would only get luke-warm water. I did a search on Angie's List which listed some 270 companies - after going through and checking out a few on Page 1 and reading the comments of the company and the reviews decided to give K&B HVAC Services LLC a call. Spoke with the owner, Vincent (Blair) and told him we desired to replace our hot water heater and asked if he could come by and assess what it would take to do the job and provide us with a quote. He said sure and we set up a date/time for him to come to our home. The day he showed up he not only did an evaluation of what it would take to replace our old unit he also took the time to answer our many questions as well as explain the differences and features of, and about, the details and installation of a new gas hot water heater. He also discussed other various options and offered an alternative suggestion that would be a quick and less expensive fix to our current unit ensuring we had the best information available to make our final decision. He emailed us a cost quote the next day. From the very beginning, when he walked through the door, we were very pleased and impressed with Vincent - his politeness, respect and personality; his overall thorough, systematic and detailed professionalism combined with his meticulous attention to detail made all the difference in the world which in-turn made us feel confident and comfortable about choosing K&B HVAC Services LLC to do the job. The full in-depth explanation, and information, to each question we asked him deserves additional credit. He meticulously listened to what we were looking for and had in mind, and not only took the time to explain; the many features, specifics and options (both pro/con) among hot water heaters, but also had the light-heartedness to exchange some of his personal experiences - which ultimately put us on the same page, so to speak. We did check with two other companies; one was higher and one was lower in cost and the way Vincent came across during his initial visit, along with the fact that he did not attempt to up-sell or pressure us to buy this or that or with any additional features we did not need or want, helped in our decision to go with K&B HVAC Services LLC. We contacted Vincent and told him of our decision (and that we did not want the quick fix option) and set up a date/time for the installation. He estimated it would take about 3 hours to complete the job. Vincent gave me a call the morning of the day we selected for installation and asked if it would be okay to start a half-hour early as he was ready to go - I said sure. He arrived and, along with Lloyd, his assistant/helper, started the work. The first thing they did was cover our carpeting with a drop-cloth to protect it then began by draining the old hot water heater. In a little less than 2 hours he informed us that the job was complete and was ready to show us the work he did to install and connect the new unit and to also show us about its features and ensure us that we knew and understood about its operation (i.e., in particular, how to relight the pilot light if it went out). In addition, upon completion everything was totally straightened up and you would have never known someone had just spent 2 hours installing a new hot water heater - the area was left as clean, or cleaner than when he started. The pride he took in doing the job definitely showed in the meticulous finished product. If asked, would I use K&B HVAC Services LLC again - I'd say ABSOLUTELY. Vincent Blair (K&B) was very knowledgeable in his field. He was very honest, upfront and thorough in my estimate process. He didn't try to sell my features, I didn't need and was honest about that. In the end, we decided to go with his company for our HVAC system replacement because we felt most comfortable with his competence in getting the job done and his prices were also really hard to beat as well. After the install, he walked through to do the inspection, tested both systems, and explained every change in detail. After our install, we had a hiccup with the wrong pipe sizing compatibility with our house and HVAC unit(as these things happen), it was a VERY quick fix and Vincent (himself) showed up immediately first thing in the morning to guarantee his work, identify and fix the problem (no extra charge)! Also, his work is aesthetically pleasing. He doesn't want your system to be an eyesore and he designs his solutions with that in mind. Our installation was done in March & waited for around 3 months with the system to write the review to ensure we used both heat and A/C daily and we have not had any issues! I was referred to K&B HVAC by my home warranty company almost 30 days ago. The out of pocket costs that K&B proposed was extremely high. I had 2 other licensed contractors come out to access the problem. Both confirmed that the proposed installation costs were unreasonable and included unnecessary items, given the fact that the warranty company was wiling to purchase the unit and that K&B were only doing the install. To start it off, the service guy, Mike, arrived more than 2 hours late. While onsite, he stated that the install should be minimal taking into account that little to no major changes were needed to switch out the units. This is the same thing that the other contractors stated. The cost estimate that I received almost 4 days later completely contradicted his statement. I was happy originally to work with a local small business company, however, this seems unlikely. read more

I've been using K&B for at least a couple yers now. They've been keeping our old heat pump system running as best as possible for as long as possible, but it was now time to replace the system. Since BGE was offering to bring a natural gas line to the house at no charge, we made the decision to go with gas heat and finally feel real warm air coming from the registers! Vince was very flexible in working with the BGE scheduling changes regarding the gas line install, but when we were finally ready, Vince and his crew showed up in the morning, removed the old system, converted us from a full heat pump system to a gas furnace and new AC unit and were wrapped up by 5PM. I called Vince on a Saturday morning, and he fit me into his schedule that afternoon. It was the day after the first 90+ degree day of spring, so all of the HVAC companies were busy. He called to let me know he was on his way. He quickly diagnosed that our unit needed a few pounds of freon. He suggested that since it was only a bit low, there was a small leak, but that we could put off an expensive leak search for a couple of years. He also identified the age of the system, and gave us advice on the type of filter to use, and cleaning the outdoor unit. He also suggested that we contact him next winter to do a regular service, which we will be doing. I could not have asked for a better experience! I've called K&B three times now, last summer when I botched the wiring on my smart thermostat install, last winter when my furnace wouldn't turn on due to the flame sensor being dirty (which they explained to me), and just now in the spring when my AC wouldn't turn on due to a wiring issue. These guys are professionals and are always very courteous and nice! Their rates are competitive and they're very knowledgeable about all things HVAC related. I know they're not slimy and money hungry because when I asked them about pricing on an expensive dual split system, they talked me off the ledge and said that my equipment works fine so there's no real need to replace it.
