My experience with Smith & Company started off a bit rocky. I had a rental property with a tenant expected to move in within a month, and the Heating/Air Conditioning unit was not functioning. Usually with rental properties, the owner wants inexpensive work done as quickly as possible. Knowing that this was a rental property and out of consideration to my bottom line, quick and inexpensive repairs were executed, but did not solve the problem. With six days before tenant move-in I was fed up with the situation. Mr. Aaron Smith (president) was made aware of my dissatisfaction and personally contacted me on a Saturday. The first thing he said was that he never wants an unhappy client and that he takes great pride in customer satisfaction. He will do everything in his power resolve the problem and exceed my expectations. Unexpectedly, I received another phone call later that day. Mr. Smith provided a detailed explanation of the problem along with three solutions. We discussed each solution in depth and decided on a course of action. Mr. Smith assured me the work would be completed by Thursday, the day before the tenant moves in. The work was actually completed on Wednesday. Mr. Smith put a lot of thought and attention to his proposal for the work we agreed upon. I cannot begin to express how hard he hustled to order the equipment and have it beautifully installed in time for the tenant. I am beyond satisfied with the Smith & Company. Our AC went out today (98F in Laurel, MD). The temp in our house was 93F - my wife is pregnant with twins and we have a 20 mo. daughter. We are renters, so we had to call our property managers to get maintenance services. They contacted Smith & Co to come fix our problem. I received a call from them and explained my wife/child/baby situation. They got one of their technicians to come out and help us even though it was well after normal business hours. The gentlemen they sent, Steven, was extremely diligent, professional, and genuinely concerned about our situation. Turns out, a capacitor went bad in our compressor - something I never would have thought to check (among many other things). Plus, we needed refrigerant added and our coils cleaned. Steven took the time to show me what went wrong, what to look for, and gave me a detailed explanation of everything he was doing to fix our AC (mind you, this was at 8 o'clock at night and I'm sure he would have rather been at home as well). Long story short...Steven saved me, my daughter, and my pregnant wife from melting through the night - Maryland summers are brutal! I highly recommend this company. They exhibited heartfelt concern for me and family during their busiest time of the year - a quality that isn't seen too often these days. I've had issues with my HVAC system since it was installed in 2013. After going through 3 companies I finally read up about Smith and Company and their reviews seemed solid. I contacted them because the system wasn't producing cold air and they were out the next day. Michael traced out a few problems probably resulting from a nearby lightening strike but the system was still not working properly. Come to find out that the system was out of coolant which is the original problem I found a month after the unit was installed. No other company was able to pinpoint the location and all gave up. They told me to just have it filled up every year and not to worry about it. Michael from Smith and Company set-up another staffer to come out tomorrow with a Leak Detector as well as bring out a portable AC unit so I have cold air until the leak is found and fixed. No company put this much work into finding and repairing my unit. Another Smith employee, Stephenie, spent time on the phone with Carrier to insure the unit was still under warranty so that's a plus. All in all Michael and Stephenie were great! I intend to start a yearly maintenance program as soon as my unit is up and running. I don't even know where to begin, in January 2018 we had the coldest temperatures ever in Columbia, MD. The system in the Condo Unit that I lived in froze, I have medical issues and the cold creates major problems for me. After reaching out to my unresponsive management company, I was referred to Smith & Company from someone in the development. From Lori Gardner in the Office to the Techs and the Owner of Smith & Company who by the way personally came out himself, to assist in getting the system up and running were the best! I am forever grateful to them and would always highly recommend them! During a time when I felt I was about to lose it with my management company, the Team at Smith & Company was my Saving Grace. They came quickly and they went above and beyond to get that old unit running! Furthermore, they explained what needed to be done, to avoid this from happening again and provided useful tips. We bought a townhouse in downtown DC this year. The air conditioner sprung a leak and we were going to be without air conditioning or heat. We called Smith & Company and they were fantastic. They came out promptly and at the time they said they would. They brought two experienced people and we discussed the options for fixing or replacing the unit and how to improve the air flow in the house. They worked with us, provided several options and helped us design and select the right one. They arranged everything and showed up on the scheduled day with a crew to make the installation. The new unit needed to go on the roof of a three-story townhouse. They literally built a crane to get the unit to the roof safely. When they encountered unexpected problems in our old house they solved them without raising our price. We got great service and a fair price that was below their competitors. Smith & Company HVAC is AWESOME on all levels. I found them one Saturday while searching online because a family friend destroyed my air handler. Although they were not open someone called me and said they would contact me on Monday morning when the office opened. And much to my surprise - they did just that. Everyone that I have dealt with at Smith & Company is fantastic. Each person goes above and beyond to make sure the customer is taken care of. I arranged for an assessment of my HVAC unit and the technician, JD, was prompt, courteous and very honest. He definitely knows HVAC. I had my unit replaced, JD was one of the technicians on this phase too, and I could not be happier with Smith & Company. During the entire process I spoke with Aaron Smith, this man is the Real Deal, consistently pleasant and smart. I cannot say enough good things but I will say - for HVAC if you want the best - call Smith & Company. We received approval for a desperately needed air conditioner as part of a weatherization grant, but no one would install it because of the location of the furnace. All other companies said the job would be too difficult without also replacing a perfectly good, cost-efficient furnace, including the company who installed both the existing air conditioner and furnace. With a little over a week left before the grant expired, a Smith & Company HVAC representative came to our house, looked at the layout for maybe 30 seconds, and said, "No problem. We're going to take care of you." And that they did. Smith & Company HVAC did a great job under trying circumstances, including three barking (but friendly) dogs (one the size of a pony) and an unforgiving, muddy yard. After three years without air conditioning, we are forever grateful to Smith & Company HVAC, its top-notch staff, and competent, capable service. read more

Ok, I am SO over this heat wave crap! The last time temps hit the upper 90's and triple digits the unit on the old side of the house went out. This time the unit on the new side went out! Thank God for Smith & Company HVAC. They have rescued us both times. This time two of their awesome guys, Steven and Walter came and not only fixed our unit, but they also tuned it all up so that we wouldn't have any other issues pop up. They were quick, courteous and super friendly. They explained and demonstrated everything that was wrong so that we understood the problem, and they also gave us great tips on how to keep things running well and prevent future problems. After a not-so-fun scheduling hiccup, Smith & Co really came through for me. Aaron exemplifies customer service of the highest order; truly an advocate for his customers. When he realized that no technician was available locally to support me in the timeframe I required, he left his post in DC to come to Baltimore himself to sort out my problem. I can't imagine many other companies, even family-owned, that would go to such lengths to sort out a new customer's complaint. Regarding technical aptitude, Aaron was able to isolate the issue upon arrival and sort out a fix. He made thorough notes to revisit in case the issue rears its head again to make sure that he's resolving the issue efficiently. This morning started off pretty bad, but after working with Aaron, it has definitely turned around. My now working A/C may have something to do with my more chill attitude as well. :) read more

A breath of fresh (warm) air! We have a very old system, a 1 year old daughter, and woke up to a house quite uncomfortably in the low 60's. Aaron came out personally the same day to address the issue, and even sent a 2nd tech later when he had an idea to make it work even better. He was genuinely concerned with getting the house warm for my daughter. He explained everything clearly so I was able to understand the problem and the solution, was professional, cleaned up after the work was done, and charged a fair price. Smith & Co HVAC (Pasadena, MD) has raised the bar on customer service and professionalism. I recently had my gas furnace, coil, and AC compressor (whole system) removed and replaced in my home. Smith & Co worked with my warranty provider and with me to ensure I received the maximum amount in coverage and walked me through options honestly and candidly. Install was a long day but the superb technician and his apprentice were on top of their game, took pride in all details, and ensured I understood the new system. I dealt with 6 of their staff and every one of them was superb. They've made it clear, as well, that they are available should any issues arise. Working in a similar industry I had an idea of what to expect through this whole process. I was not prepared however for how easy and painless the entire process was when working with Smith And Company. From the straightforward pricing to the quality of the work done on my home every aspect of this process gets 5 stars. My 18 year old unit crapped out and after getting several quotes Smith and Company sent out two technicians on a Saturday to replace my heat pump and air handler. JD And Andrew meticulously replaced my system and left the unfinished basement CLEANER than it was prior to their arrival. We were having a stubborn problem with our AC unit. The pipes kept leaking and the unit would stop working. Smith and Co. planned to send someone out the following week. They didn't have an appointment available sooner. But my building manager and I contacted them via email after hours. It was Thursday before a long holiday weekend, and my wife was pregnant. She couldn't go that long without AC, as we explained in the email. Aaron saw the message and immediately called me to let me know that he would send a repair person to fix it early the next morning. I've had lots of experiences with HVAC companies over the years and none of them can hold a candle to Smith & Company! The pricing on my new heat pump and air handler was more than fair and the technicians were professional RESPECTFUL and knowledgeable. They explained everything to me in layman's terms so I could understand what was happening. There was minimal disturbance to my work (I was working from home that day) and there was no mess when they were done. I had them back to clean and sanitize my vents and another team member did a stellar job! The 4 staff people who came to my home plus the folks I spoke to in their office were all the nicest people! I wanted to send out shout out into the world to this guy, John. I followed him over 30 miles (one lane highway) and he followed the letter of the law to the absolute tee. He stayed exactly within the speed limit parameters indicated on all signs. He slowed to 30mph in the school zones, stayed at 40mph in the zones required and never exceeded the 50mph speed limit during any other portions of his trip. It took me a little bit longer than the norm to get to work but I was so pleased to see a person and a company concerned with safety and not in a hurry and/or driving recklessly. We woke up Sunday morning, freezing, as if we had slept with the windows open. Come to find out the reason why we were so cold was because our thermostat quit working. We were with out heat, but thanks to Smith and Company HVAC we weren't for long. We contacted Smith & Company HVAC and they were able to make it out within a reasonable amount of time. Love this company! Noticed water on the floor one day doing laundry so my husband fixed the pipe that was loose, we rigged to make water flow from the air handler. A few days later more water was on the floor so we were ok lets call a professional. Smith & Company to the rescue. Aaron arrived and somehow I must have hit the pipe it was still in the hole, however it was higher than the pipe so it couldn't drain :) It was operator error. I was super happy that my unit did not need to be replaced. Super awesome company and excellent customer service! read more

Fantastic service provider!. After a miserable night of no AC and another company never showed up, I contacted Melinda early this morning and she did exactly as she promised- called back within 1 hour and we had a technician there within another hour , by 9 am on the Fourth of July !. The technician was efficient, personable, got our AC up and going quick and gave up an honest picture of what else was needed to prevent further issues.
