I've been here a couple of times with the family and have always had a good experience. The restaurant is nicely done. The lighting is low and the restaurant feels elegant without being overly done. There is a small bar if you'd prefer to sit there rather than a low top table. There is outside seating too. My daughter has discovered she really likes picatta sauce. She still orders from the kid's menu but that sauce is never really an option. We asked our server if they could make the sauce for her with spaghetti. They told us no problem. My son ordered the Mac and cheese. My husband and I split the crab & shrimp ravioli (special for the night) and the tagliatelle all uovo con funghi. The kids loved their dishes and we loved ours too. The Mac and cheese was made with fresh cheddar cheese and it was delicious. It was so nice not to see the processed version. I would have been content in having that dish as my meal. The shells are plenty big so it's a good size portion. We brought it home and if he doesn't eat it I will! The shrimp and crab ravioli was in a homemade vodka sauce. It came with about 7 raviolis and was topped with some pieces of shrimp. It was simple and well done. The tagliatelle was good, but we felt like the sauce could have been thicker/richer. It wasn't very flavorful compared to the other dishes. If you are looking for a lighter sauce this might be for you. We are fans and will be back! read more

Just ok for me. The food was solid, but not amazing. However, I didn't try their pasta, so could have missed out. We came on a Wednesday night for dinner, and it wasn't super busy that night. We tried: -Bruschetta: The toast was too thick and the tomatoes weren't very flavorful- skip! -Beef Carpaccio: Surprisingly really good- the beef tasted really fresh and the arugula and Parmesan were perfect with it. Highly recommended! -Mozzarella & Tomato Salad: The mozzarella was really fresh and delicious, but the tomatoes didn't quite seem ripe enough. I loved the balsamic with it though, and would order this again. -Fried Calamari: Just ok. The piece of calamari I had was a bit too chewy. -Cornish Game Hen: This was roasted perfected and the meat was really tender. The sauce was a bit salty but it was good with the roasted vegetables. Although this was good, I would probably opt for another dish since this didn't feel very unique. -Tiramisu: Solid, but not the best version I've had. -Strawberry Napolean: I didn't like how this was served or the strawberry sauce, so wouldn't order it again. Service was ok- the appetizers came out quickly but our mains took a WHILE. Dessert also took longer than expected to come out. Parking was super difficult to find on a Wednesday night, and it took me over 10 minutes of circling. They have parking towards the back area of Bianchini's (the ones not specifically reserved for them), which seemed to have a decent number of spots. read more

I live in this town, so I frequent all of the local restaurants regularly. I've been here twice but I can say it's one of my favorite restaurants in the area (and especially Italian themed). Foremost, they've got great and fast service. The servers are very prompt and professional the food always tastes great and comes it quickly. Combine that with a very sleek and modern (but not cold) interior and you have an amazing restaurant. The prices are not low, but it's *very* reasonable for quality of food and service that you get. So far I've only ordered off of the specials menu. I had the lobster ravioli which came in a nice vodka sauce; very delicious. I've also had the burrata appetizer, which was beautifully made with soft fresh cheese and crunchy tomato and tasty balsamic (will attach photo). I've also ordered the beef ravioli with mushrooms, also on the specials menu, and of course it was also a fantastic and well portioned dish. Now that we've finally tried this place, we will be coming back regularly! read more

Everything was just average. Our server didn't have knowledge of what he was serving. We ordered the charcuterie board and he asked us if we eat beef (not sure why). The board had some Prosciutto and Salami, so I just asked him if it's the Salami that's beef and he said he doesn't know what the other thing (referring to the prosciutto) is made of as they don't have that in his country. The cheese on the board was very dry. We also kept getting rushed to order. All the pasta dishes were just ok. The bread pudding was good. We went last weekend and everything was amazing! We had the Salmon sandwich, classic spaghetti with meatballs and 1 more pasta ( one with broccoli and sausage), Portobello sandwich and they were all DELICIOUS! What I loved the most is that the portions were just perfect, not overwhelmingly large. We were so excited to eat I forgot to take photos. I was only able to take the interior of the restaurant and it was designed well. Nice decor and the bathroom was so clean and well designed. The staff were also all very nice. My pasta (bolognese) was delicious, great sauce, so was my friends sauce, penne... We walked in at around 9:10 pm and they close at 9:30 pm. All I can say is no ones bit this kind of costumer service, they were patient, supportive and respectful despite the short time left. I really wanted to love this place as it seemed pretty inviting. Even though it was empty on a popular Halloween night, we went here with the hope of having amazing Italian. Pasta, fish, peppers, bruschetta and pizza - all was very mediocre. Service was very good and decor was perfect setting for an evening meal. Nothing on the menu is compelling to come back to. Charming Italian restaurant with flavorful food, ambient atmosphere, and polite staff. Some restaurants at San Carlos downtown are closed on Sunday, but not Pranzi Italian Bistro. They have everything to make your experience one of the best. Tables are served with sparkly white tablecloths and shiny utensils. Fresh Focaccia bread was served with butter & herbs when we have been seated at the table. I had Tagliatelle dinner: seasonal wild mushrooms, spring onions, garlic thyme, oregano, butter white truffle oil, and shaved parmesan. The pasta was cooked perfectly, wild mushrooms added aroma and earthy notes to the overall pallet. Shaved parmesan had a nice contrast with the sweatiness of home made pasta. My husband had a vegetarian option of the Italian Oricchiette dinner: broccoli rabe, fennel, garlic, white wine, butter, red pepper flakes, basil and parmesan cheese. We asked for more shaved cheese, which was immediately brought to us. The meal tasted great and my hubby was pleased. Our friends had Fresh Apple Salad dinner with chicken, and Caesar Salad dinner with grilled prawns. Both were happy with their choices. Pranzi Italian Bistro has a dessert promotion, which was used in a timely manner. We had a Puff Pastry Napoleon with strawberries, Marsala wine, mascarpone mousse and blackberry sauce. It had three layers of fresh flaky pastry with fluffy mousse and strawberries. The presentation of the dessert was superb! Tasty and beautiful. We went back to Pranzi and had a much better experience this tome around. We ordered the chicken special and the steak special for dinner. Both were very good and it was nice to see options different from the ones on the regular menu. My husband also had a tiramisu for dessert and he said it was very flavorful. My reasoning for not giving 5 stars was because we needed to ask for my husband's drink three times which shouldn't be necessary. read more

I came here with a bunch of coworkers recently to have a quality lunch. We reserved for 12:15, although we ultimately walked in at 12:25 (they still took us). Due to some time constraints,​ we didn't quite get through the full set of Italian courses that were​ offered; We got an antipasti, & each of us either got the pasta or a "secondi piatti" which is the second plate; technically that's the 'main course' that follows the pasta course, but oh well--many people left very satiated by the pasta alone (some had to take leftovers to go!) Some didn't get dessert, I did--ya always gotta save room for dessert--more details on that further below! Service: I felt they were a little slow here. Now, I'm not talking about the time it takes to get food as that's expected since we were a large group. I was wondering for a bit as to when they'd ask us about ordering appetizers, or the main dishes or the dessert. All of us were there for a bit and they didn't really take much initiative in asking us what we wanted to get. It wasn't like they were busy, either--we were practically the only people inside the restaurant. They were flawless otherwise. Food: My sentiments about each part of the meal vary quite a bit. Long story short is that the main course is a bit of a letdown, but the other parts were good. Let's break it down: - Bread: Free. Seemed a little too soft (soggy?). The butter looked a bit strange (closer to blue cheese) but was normal in flavor. *Antipasti* - Calamari Fritti: This was done very well. Both the rings and the squid legs were crispy and had the right amount of salt. Not a fan of tomato-paste type stuff so I skipped the marinara, but I will say that my coworkers enjoyed having their calamari with the sauce. - Bruschetta: Very delectable bread! Big fan of how much garlic they put on the bread as well as the fact that it's combined with a good amount of vegetables. *Secondi Piatti* - Scaloppine AI Carciofi E Limone (aka the Secondi Piatti): For $28, this is the biggest letdown of the entire day. The veal was awfully tasteless (though tender) and the quantity was out of whack. The artichokes and roasted potatoes were good, though. The whole experience is improved by the fact that my appetite is much smaller than what it used to be. *Dessert* - Villa Dolce Italian Gelato: This saved things for me. I like Gelato in general and these guys did the job right. Loved it! Another thing I'd like to comment on is that it would better facilitate​ a social experience by providing round tables of some kind. For our big group,​ they lined up several long tables which worked to seat all of us, but not quite to foster connection. I'd keep that in mind for the individual who wishes to plan a social offsite​! Overall, it was a fair experience. Wouldn't​ recommend it to anyone, though. read more

Since the pandemic began, I've been getting takeout only. Today, I went to Pranzi for my first in person dining and was quite impressed with the setup. From each table having individual bags for you to put your mask in--what an amazing idea to make things much more sanitary--to the extremely hospitable staff and delicious food, I'm so happy I decided to try this restaurant. It was my first time, but won't be the last. I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer and the burger was very satisfying. For those who have practiced an abundance of caution like me, I felt very safe there. The staff practiced excellent safety protocols, for example we asked for hot sauce and our server brought it over and was wiping it with a Clorox wipe before handing it to us. That extra step made my family and I all pause with appreciation. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We had lunch. The food was good, including the bread 'n butter. My husband enjoyed his steak sandwich. I asked for my Caesar salad to be lightly dressed and it was perfect. I had mussels and clams. There were several empty shells and no strays in the bowl. Bummer. The broth was tasty. The restaurant was empty for lunch. We were the only diners. My husband and I agree that they should have a separate lunch menu, even if that means a menu that just shows their salads, sandwiches, the hamburger and all the appetizers because someone casually walking by would think this restaurant way too $$$$$ for lunch. Well, the prices of the lunch type items were fine. But you get easily distracted by the prices of their "entrees." Just our thoughts, given a completely empty highly rated restaurant. I've changed my rating from 4 stars to 3 after ordering a large delivered meal this week. The calamari appetizer arrived perfectly, which is the one thing I wouldn't have ordered for delivery but my son insisted. Oddly, everything else that came was forgettable. We ordered a risotto with beef: too salty and beef was tough. We ordered polenta with mushrooms: arrived swimming in what was either fat from the melted cheese, or butter. Had to dig under the layer to find the polenta. We ordered broccoli which was nicely crisp. We ordered chicken Marsala. Way too heavy and salty, and the accompanying pasta sauce on the capellini was too salty too. I'm not a salt prude but the chef last night had a very heavy hand. I think the sign of a good restaurant is consistency. And I know from experience that great restaurants can make their meals great for delivery, too. read more

This restaurant has only been open for a couple of weeks but it's a promising addition to downtown San Carlos. Hopefully the food will be improved as time goes on. We ordered: Baked Burrata (3 of 4 stars): gooey melted cheese studded with garlic cloves, olives and red peppers, served with toasted focaccia. While crowd pleasing, it seemed a bit of a bastardization of good Burrata. House made tagliatelle with mushrooms (3 of 4 stars): Really suffered from underseasoning, would be great with more salt. Slightly over cooked pasta but generous amount of mushrooms, would be a standout dish with the right seasoning. Lamb chops with Brussels sprouts and polenta (2 of 4 stars): Also underseasoned, plus overcooked and dry. Service was friendly but a bit rough: for example, even when told we were sharing all the dishes, our waitress only brought out one spoon and one knife to share between the two of us. Overall Pranzi deserves 3.5 stars but rounding up since it just opened. read more

Gracious, delectable, and divine! You know it's a heartwarming spot when locals walk by and share a friendly "hello" in passing to the server out front--while longingly walking by to their cars. Our wait staff was so knowledgable, and made us feel like we were the only ones there on our date night. Our server even offered to remove the breading from the fish. I hesitated even writing this review--since I feel like it's a hidden treasure! Each dish was bursting with flavor, and vegetables as fresh as could be. (He got the steak, I got the sole). Our server even brought us a complimentary tiramisu to enjoy--to celebrate our first time there. Throughout the meal, both my partner and I (who are Bay Area locals)--kept looking at each other to say "how did we not eat here before!? This is amazing!" We can't wait to come back. read more
