I wouldn't even give them one star. They are using the fine print to get out of critical errors. Now I have dead car in LA they won't take responsibility for the mistakes. Not sure what happened to them apparently the owner's changed and now they are squirming to get out of fixing their mistakes. Highly recommended - went in a few weeks ago to get an APR flash done on my 2008 A4. Jeff managed to squeeze me in at the last minute, despite them having no appointments available for several weeks, so I went in with a good impression before the work was even done. Once the flash was done, Jeff road tested it in several modes to ensure there weren't any obvious boost issues. Chris then walked me through how to switch programs, including making me test drive it in each mode, which really showcased the power gains. Once my service plan's up with Audi, I'm sorely tempted to make the trek up to Santa Clara for future scheduled maintenance. I have been here a couple times now, getting my car service done, mainly the generic service like oil change, check ups etc. Jeff is a honest owner who would go out of his way to make you happy. My car IS250 had alignment problems, and I told Jeff that when I brought it in for service, he was happy to help and take it to an alignment shop he trust with no extra charge, but i got a call from him telling me that the alignment could not be done that day, even though he called a several other shops, I told him it's okay, i'll get it done some other times. When I went in to pick up my car, he then again apologized and gave me a huge discount on my bill, because he felt he didn't keep his promise. Alignment wasn't even his issue to fix, but he went that extra mile just to keep his customers happy. What a great customer service!! read more

I took my 98 BMW to these guys after reading their reviews....Both Jeff and Chris were on site and easy to talk to. They ran a thorough test on my car and found only a faulty battery to be the problem. I had taken my car to two prior shops that missed this basic problem.... They installed the battery and the car was perfect. I had a couple of cabin filters that they installed and some headlights that needed adjustment....they did the extra work for free and even discounted their basic inspection without even asking for a discount. They are trustworthy and more than fair. I will be bringing all my cars to them whenever possible. It's a no brainer if you live in Santa Clara.... Totally stoked on these guys.... read more

Extremely service oriented and very professional. I brought in my old '98 Cabrio due to some oddball noises(vibration over flat surfaces, clicking on turns). They diagnosed the problem after a test drive as a bad axle and gave me an estimate. The time and parts estimate were right on after some research. Their service rate is on par with other mechanics on Stevens Creek. What really surprised me was that they did not push for the repairs to be done ASAP. During their testing, they didn't hesitate to call me to ensure they were diagnosing the correct problem (which is a plus). They were also completely understanding when I said I couldn't afford the repairs until next year. I'm giving them 5 stars not because of the quality of their work (although by the other reviews, their work is top notch), but for how they professionally conduct their business. read more

This is the easiest 5 star review i've ever given. Jeff and Chris are the owners of this place. The two of them combined have saved me at least $5000 on my 02' camry from unnecessary repair costs throughout the years. They are the most honest and intelligent people I can imagine ever running a shop like this. I originally found Precision when I had problems with my check engine light. Other shops had recommended a complete replacement of O2 sensors and catalytic converters that were well over $2k in toyota parts. Jeff and Chris recommended cheaper solutions for me that ended up costing way less at a specialty shop. They didn't even end up making any money on me and I ended up only spending 400 bucks somewhere else and passing smog. I was so impressed with their honesty and so grateful for their help that I had to write a review (which i dont do often). I don't really now a lot about cars, but whenever i'm in the shop, Jeff or Chris really clearly explain things to me about my car and are very articulate about what problems i'm having and why some things need repair and some things don't! They even draw pictures of engine compartments and pistons to explain to me why and how some things aren't working. I am completely comfortable leaving my Camry in their hands and they NEVER suggest or influence me to do anything that i don't ABSOLUTELY need to. Thanks for the help guys! Jeff, chris, and all the mechanics are an absolute pleasure to hang out with and talk to. I started going to these guys a few years ago after getting some sticker shock on a service proposal from my Audi dealership. Jeff was incredibly responsive, upfront, and explained what was needed and what really wasn't, and what an be deferred and I was grateful. I needed a ride back to my office and they were able to do that. And the prices are reasonable. Now each time I need an oil change or a general check up before going up to the snow I always go with these guys. Because of their popularity, don't assume you can get in same day, though a few times Jeff has been able to surprise me. Other times they can usually take you next day or a few days later. I just called today as I need to take my car out of town this weekend and unfortunately they couldn't take me until Tuesday, but Jeff said I can always swing by before I leave for the guys to take a quick look on the tire pressure, top off fluids, etc., just to make sure... That's such awesome service! I love my Audi, which has been so great to me for 12 years now - and I love these guys for taking great care of my car. read more

I ordered the part (lots of research to get the right part) and started on the job. OK, so I bought the wrong part, replacement was a bit more involved than I estimated even with the service manual. So with the rear door panel in bits and broken regulator in view, I stopped by and saw Jeff. Despite offering to source the correct part for me and offering free advice on fitting it myself, I decided to ask Jeff to sort it for me Next day, dropped car in, Eric sorted it out perfectly and Jeff charged me less than dealer ... and reduced labour cost since I'd already done some of the leg work. Let me preface this review to say that I actually didn't get my car fixed here but I was so impressed with Chris' knowledge and helpfulness that I had to Yelp. I had intended to send my car to Precision Motor Works but I was talked out of it by the AAA tow truck driver (note: Do NOT let them talk you into taking your car to their garage for a measley 5-10% AAA discount). The other mechanic came back with a $1000 quote for the fix and he gave a long list of parts that needed to be replaced. It sounded high so I gave Chris a call and he explained to me that they probably didn't know the exact reason for the engine misfire so they wanted to fix everything that could have possibly caused the problem. Long story short, I called the mechanic who had my car and told him I wanted them to fix my car in steps and test to see whether the issue was fixed before they installed the other components. I can't say enough good things about Jeff and Precision. You really strike gold when you find an honest auto shop that you can trust not to fish as much money out of you as possible. My most recent visit included a synthetic oil change, cabin filter replacement, and break light replacement. When I received the call that my car was ready, Jeff charged me a lower price than the original one quoted - totally appreciated. When I first visited the shop some few years back, it was because the shop just down the street tried to tell me I needed so many parts replaced in my car, while attempting to charge me an arm and a leg. My body shop recommended that I take my car into Precision Motorworks, and they told me I only needed one part replaced, for a very reasonable price. I love that they have an overnight drop box, since my work hours don't allow me to drop off/pick up during their hours of operation. Where a polite yes or no would have done, the owner started yelling at me for checking on whether he would fit an after market part on my car if I brought one. They did a good job in fixing my 01 Passat. They managed to machine my rotors instead of replacing them, so I saved some money. They also advised me on what had to be done immediately and which I could wait on. Also friendly and knowledgeable. However a little high priced for a VW. read more

I've been going to Precision Motors for almost a year now and I found them through Yelp. It all started when my poor 2000 BMW 323i started having some issues with losing battery. Being a girl (I know) I am not too savvy on cars and have no clue what the heck I'm doing. After calling a few places (ahem like BMW Santa Clara) who tired to rip me off, Precision's estimate was like 50%. These guys strike me as being very honest, on time with repair work, and easy to deal with - especially for car clueless customers like me! The only negative thing I would say is that they're not open weekends and it can be inconvenient to drop off the car on weekdays. This place was reccommended to me by a friend/co-worker..knowing that I was such a big yelper, he added in the fact that this place received 5 STARS!! I was almost skeptical, thinking to myself, how could a car repair shop get 5 STARS?!?!? It was true!! PROS: They know exactly what they're doing and they treat you with respect! This is the first place that talked to me like a customer and not some dumb chick that doesn't know anything about cars. I have been to many other places where they spoke to me as if I was dumb..like hello, obviously I'm not stupid, I know my car is broken and thats why I'm here. The estimate was given the next day, along with a breakdown of all the things that were wrong with my car. The nice part was that they were reccommendations as to when the best time would be to fix it, not like going to a dealership where they want you to fix everything at once and you go broke. VERY HONEST GUYS! VERY NICE! VERY PROFESSIONAL! I got a chance to speak with Jeff and Chris and they were very helpful, I picked up my car Thursday and turned out I needed an oil change and I was told that they were all booked that day but they squeezed me in anyways! =) When I got there, Chris offered to drop me off at the coffee shop so I wouldn't have to wait at the shop but I was off to a wedding that day anyways so I just hung out in the waiting area and painted my toes! =) Car was ready in less than an hour! 5 stars all the way. Jeff and Chris are really nice, not a bad thing to say about them. Had my Audi running rough and called them up. Jeff agreed to take a quick look at it in the afternoon and pulled the check engine codes (free of charge). They took down all my information, car information and notes on the problem and told me to drive around and come back when the check engine light was back. I drove home (no light) and had to take it around the block about a week later to get the light back on. Jeff was out of town but Chris agreed to have me bring it by again, they checked it all out on a Thursday, fixed it and I had it back Friday. I was very pleased and they were very helpful and attentive, not to mention friendly. I'll be back and my girlfriend has already gone in since for her Volkswagen. Great place. read more

Typically I dread searching for a mechanic, but finally I found Jeff and his crew who spoke clear english and did not beat around the bush about my car and the issues. Jeff, the owner, gave me his honest opinion of my car and rather than perform work on it; he said i would I be better off selling the vehicle on craigslist and recommended me to go get a steam clean and post it online for sale. Not only did he inspect my vehicle for free, but he turned away a potential money mine (my car). They are quick, to the point, and explain in detail what needs to be done. These guys are awesome. During this economy more business have tried to focus more on customer service. At Precision, they have built their business around it and it shows!! I took a 2009 Mercedes into them to do an all around inspection as it was bought used with 6K miles but didn't know its service history. They not only went through the entire car and didn't charge me a penny but only did the service that was required (ie oil change only) They told me it looked fine to them from a service perspective. However, they did call me in after they had raised the car to show me how the sway bars had a missing nut, the muffler bracket was not fastned to the muffler and the front sway bolts were damaging the underbody and needed to be ground down. Apparently the "performance" shop that I had previously gone to, did a superior crappy job! Precision ground the bolts down, added the bolt that was missing and re-attached the muffler bracket AT NO COST. THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR ANYTIME!!! Saying that is part of their service and they wanted me to be a happy and returning customer! Since it was raining that day they polished the wheels and tires and gave me a coupon for a FREE CAR WASH at a great local car wash! AWESOME SERVICE AND EXPERTISE. I have to add the owner is a Master Mercedes-Benz technician and knows his craft well. They have a passion for BMW, Mercedes and other high-end cars. If there was a rating below 1 star I would give it. I contacted Precision Motorworks a couple of weeks ago about an issue with a vehicle we have. That vehicle had been modified, and we wanted to bring it back closer to a stock configuration. At first the owner of the establishment Jeff Sowell was helpful, he explained the issue and even recommended parts to replace, he offered to do the job for $170 in labor and $85 for a tune. With this information, I ordered my parts, and upon their arrival I setup an appointment to have the vehicle worked on. On appointment day is when everything went awry. I dropped off the car, Jeff was not in the shop at the time, one of the employees by the name of Brandon handed me a work order for $530 or so. I simply responded to him, that Jeff had given me a verbal quote already, and it was because of the numbers he quoted that I was back. Brandon may not have had the authority or know how to make the adjustment, but he made a change to $340, so I signed the repair order to get the work started, but I requested to speak with Jeff. Brandon said Jeff would contact me upon his return around noon time. I never got a call from Jeff. The next day, I went in to pickup the vehicle, and I wanted to say hello to Jeff and just to inquire about the amount on the invoice. I was met immediately with shouting and insults from Jeff, who also went so far as to call me a Mother F***** just for simply asking a question. So I politely said "Thank you" and got the hell out of there. I am 67 years of age, he is easily half my age, the level of disrespect given to a customer none the less is unacceptable and absolutely unprofessional. I will never recommend this shop to any of my colleagues, Jeff is absolutely one of the rudest people I have ever done business with. read more

Jeff and Chris....... These guys really know their job. First of all; they are not running after your money. There were several tiny things that lead me to draw that conclusion but just not going into long stories here. It was my first experience ever with an Auto-Workshop and I am glad I made this decision of going to Precision Motorworks. Everything was systematically set up. Jeff took my car in early morning on a Friday and by 5 o clock, everything was ready to go. Things seemed perfectly fine and he also notified me of all the smallest details that took place in the car while they were taking care of it. Whatever were the changes the made, the parts they changed etc etc. I was given all the details and after driving the car, I was more than happy :) Jeff would personally look into every car that comes in and not just let the other workers handle everything. Even on a Friday evening, he was in no hurry to shut down the office and run home. We had a wonderful conversation regarding the type of work he does , his passion for cars etc. and the conversation went on till 6pm. This shows he is not there merely to make money, but to ensure customer satisfaction. No hurry, no worry :) Very honest mechanics indeed. I dropped in a few times at this shop to get a quote and they provided estimates without problem even if I was not a customer yet. -I had been told elsewhere that my battery needed to be replaced. They measured it for free twice and after 2 years, it's still fine. -Lately I dropped by to get a quote for a new starter and Jeff drove up to my home to check it out. No charge. He had the parts the next morning. -Oil change+filter+fluids with full inspection on brakes, fluids, tires, battery was $60 with tx. Other shops in MTV charge about the same, plus $135 for a full inspection. -I asked to plan some repairs that had been recommended by other shops worth about $1000 and they recommended to keep an eye on it instead. They are definitely not trying to rack up more work. The initial quotes appear to be a little higher than other shops nearby, but less expensive than going to the car dealership. In my experience, you get what you pay for. I went to less expensive shops before and had botched jobs and damage to my car, or they found that a lot of new work needed to be done. read more
