I recently came here for a Star Certified smog test because they have a coupon in the PennySaver. After they failed my car, I went to SmogPros (also in El Cajon on the corner of Madison and Main.. 5 stars from me!) and the people there told me that the machine at precision tune is old and tests things that don't even need to be tested anymore...so I pretty much wasted my money getting my first test there. Also, after the guy at precision tune failed me, they said they'd charge me the ridiculous rate of $100 just to find out what's wrong and then more to actually fix the minor problem (which was never a problem in reality) These people are sketchy and give honest mechanics a bad name read more

As a single woman who has horror stories to tell about mechanics, Ken and crew are truly a blessing. He is HONEST, RELIABLE, and PROFESSIONAL. He is the ONLY mechanic that I have ever met that is honest and does not price gouge, also he did not give me a list of problems that need to be fixed on my car. Although my car is 17 years old and I know other problems will arise, he has NEVER told me I needed unnecessary repairs as other mechanics have in the past, also Ken does not treat you as a dollar sign he knows your name and your car. I was very happy with the smog service provided for my son's car. The prices were reasonable, especially with their coupon for smog. Surprisingly open on a Sunday too. The staff was courteous, organized, and very helpful. The place was clean. Their waiting room sat 10+ people--good sized-- with complimentary coffee and a TV with the current game on even. Nice helpful, courteous staff, I was there for checkup on cooling system but found out I have a leaking water pump and probably need a thermostat as well. Staff refilled coolant for free! But repair after repair makes me think is time to move on to something newer. It's a 2002 Monte Carlo with only 60k miles, but 15 yrs old it's time to retire it. Had a brake service done on '04 Camry along with smog check. Jessica was super friendly. I also spoke to the owner Karim who was as good as it gets. They communicated the cost to me with consistency and were very open about the pricing. Jessica gave me the $35 discount from the website w/o me having to print a coupon and also discounted the smog check. Overall very happy with the service provided. Brake service (calipers replaced, rotors machined, and pads replaced) and smog check under $700 out the door. Karim also gave me a free synthetic oil change for being a first time customer. Wow, where do I start? First, if you have a problem of any kind and need help, assistance or are looking for a recommendation, always check YELP. YOU are the opinions that matter. I've never been disappointed yet and this is just another example of why: My story: So this last weekend four of us went on our semi-annual camping trip just outside of Julian. We arrived Friday and on Saturday morning we all piled in the truck to head out for a hike. Turned the key...nothing. Lights, gauges and most everything else worked fine. Turned the key again...nothing. No clicking, no noise, just that dreadful silence. So, we got out the AAA card and arranged for someone to come out. Once AAA came out, checked everything out and also knew we had done our due diligence in trying to get the truck started, but to no avail. They tried...no success. So, they loaded my GMC Sierra on their flatbed and drove us to Precision Tune Auto Care in El Cajon (yes, while waiting for AAA to show up, I researched reviews to find someone to take my truck to and decided Precision was the place)! I also decided to call Precision to see how busy they were and explained that I was waiting for AAA to come to our campsite at Green Valley campground to come and get us. We'd then be on our way. i was greeted on the phone by Karla, who was most understanding and said they were busy, but to call her back when we were on our way. We hit some snags that cost us a bit of time, so I called to let her know we were running a little late. No problem. Then, once the truck was loaded on the flatbed, I called Precision again and spoke to Matt. I explained everything to him and he said, "no worries, just drive safely and we'll be waiting for you". WHAT? You seemed to care? Wow. We arrived at Precision on the flatbed and were guided immediately to an empty bay. The truck was unloaded and I went in search of Matt. He saw that we had arrived and came out to see if he could find out what the problem was. He first asked if I had an alarm on the truck and if it worked. I said it worked up until the night before. He said to have a seat in the waiting room and he'd go out immediately to check it out. Many others were waiting in the waiting room and in less than 10 minutes, here comes Matt. He motioned for me to come out to my truck. Not only did he get it started, but the alarm was now working as well! With the help of Lee, the Service Advisor, they both diagnosed the problem. It was a dead battery! Apparently, the battery had just enough juice left in it to operate everything in the vehicle. However, by the time the truck got to Precision, everything had died. They had to order a battery for me, so we waited in the waiting room, watched a little TV, grabbed some ice cold water and relaxed. Lee came in several times to check on us and said the battery would be there shortly. It was. They installed the new battery, changed out the battery in my remote (just to be sure) and I was good to go! In the meantime, Ken came out to see what was happening. I explained everything to him and told him I found him on Yelp. He seemed very pleased and was extremely nice. I noticed many "regulars" seem to come to Precision and Ken and the guys know a lot of them by name. I liked that and figured if they were that crazy busy on a Saturday, but still had time to fit me in that quickly, they're my kind of shop. I thanked Karla, Matt, Lee and Ken, climbed in our truck and made it back to the campground in time for that glass of wine!! Thank you all for making a stressful situation the complete opposite!! I rolled my window, this is what he said: "whats up", rather than, hi good morning, how may we assist you or how can I help you . I work customer service, there is nothing more important than taking care of your customers, I told him forget it. Recently we had a serious and urgent automotive problem which involved smogging our motor home. I called Dave at Precision Tune. He said to bring our vehicle right in and they would do everything they could to resolve our issue as quickly as possible. When we got there, we talked with Karim, who met us in the parking lot. I live about 30 minutes from this place, but now I will not go anywhere but here. The front desk tandem of Monica and Karla are the definition of customer service. I came in frustrated that my coupon codes wouldn't work. Monica hunted down as much information for me as possible, even giving me a discount in case my codes wouldn't work. I was later able to get the codes to work and they still honored that, even though I was already invoiced at a higher rate. The techs were just as helpful. They came to me with advice and were not aggressive in their sales. They were very informative. People on here complaining about the wait time have to keep in perspective that this is a high quality and highly popular repair facility. If you come during peak times, expect some wait. I was here 30 minutes after they opened and my vehicle was in the garage in a matter of a few minutes. This is now my 2nd home for my 3 cars. Great job team. Keep up the excellent work! read more

I will be getting all my work on my car with this company from now on! I had an old car and I had saved up over a grand to get some work done on it. I dropped my car off and a few hours later they called me and told me they didn't feel it would be right to do any work on the car. They basically told me the car was done and could not take my money knowing that the car did not have much life left in it. My fault, when I bought it five years ago I did hardly any maintenance, wasn't making much then. I was able to put what I didn't spend on the old car as a down payment on a new car! First came here for a smog with a coupon they had in The Reader. Then after my smog failed, I had to have a diagnostic and then replace my PCM. I also used coupons on their website for both the diagnostic and the work, and was very glad for the break on price. ***BEWARE*** this place likes to scam old ladies, my mom and I went in to have brakes done on 1/31/2019 and they started telling her she needed all this other stuff like roaters mind you she just bought this car from a dealer 4 months ago... Well she only authorized for $476 and come time to pay they charged her $986 they added more money on for stuff that she didn't even need. I went in the next morning to get this all sorted out and the manager I believe his name was Manny tells us there's nothing he could do.. but that day they told my mom to bring in her car in the next morning and they would take off the parts and put her old ones back on. Some words were exchanged he said he would see us in small claims court and he called the cops, I have filed a complaint with the bureau of automotive repair and BBB and currently disputing the transaction with the bank. I came in for an oil change and tire rotation. When I checked my car in, I was told that tire rotations were not possible due to weather and that my wait would be 1-1.5 hours. The oil change took 2 hours, and it wasn't until I asked when I could pay that a different worker asked if I was getting a tire rotation (say what?). So, turns out tire rotations were possible, and I've already sat around for 2 hours so now I'm waiting for that as well. They gave me an estimate of of 20 additional minutes but I'm anticipating waiting even longer given that their initial estimate was off. The workers have good attitudes but you definitely need to speak up. The lady who checks people in told me, and another customer that tire rotations weren't able to be done today; however, the older man going back and forth asked if people were getting oil changes and neither cleared that up with the other, which is very frustrating. I'm giving 3 stars because I'm using a groupon and I don't mind waiting if I'm saving money but this is too much! read more

I usually drop my car off but this time I decided to wait for it in the lobby. I was told it was a very busy day and the wait would be 45 min. It turned out to be well over an hour. I needed an oil change and tire rotation. When the tires were rotated they found 2 nails in two different tires. I wanted to have them fixed right then but I had waited so long that I had run out of time. I too had a very busy day planned. The staff is always friendly and courteous. We bring all of our cars to Precision Tune Auto and will continue to do so but next time I will arrange to be dropped off and not wait. read more
