I love the pastries at this place. They are always changing. Loved my brekkie with a mimosa and a donut. Very busy but our wait was less than 20 mins. If you are splitting checks make sure they split it off correctly - we made the mistake of not checking and just paying and realize now it was off. Uncomfortable service at the coffee bar, staff appeared visibly annoyed my family of three wanted to order breakfast on the go, which why have a bar and pastry case then?? The coffee was burnt and scorching hot, when I asked for it to be remade I was served an eye roll and didn't receive the same drink. Truly horrible service. I was excited to bring my sister as I had had a great experience prior however this time I was extremely disappointed with the service at the coffee bar. Male employee with dark hair and green acrylic nails was very rude addressing us with "ya what's up". He did accommodate our drink orders which were great but his attitude was a real put off. No eye contact or greeting smile, extremely careless, and rude. It felt like us ordering was an inconvenience to him. My sister asked for a fork after getting her pastry and he tossed it to her instead of handing it to her. When my sister asked if we could sit and drink coffee and eat pastry I was hesitant to sit at the bar as we didn't feel welcomed. I understand having a bad day but there is 0 excuse to be rude to guests. I don't feel downtown Gilbert has a great place for coffee so being one of the only coffee shop I think customer service could be much better. This was around 1 PM Saturday 4/26/25. Stopped in on Saturday morning bright and early. To my pleasant surprise, the bakery case was stocked full of all the beautiful, delicious goodness you could imagine. After months of occupying my dreams, the blueberry earl grey scone was mine! It was everything I had hoped for and more. An absolute must try during your visit to Prep & Pastry!! Okay, enough about the scone lol! To start the meal, I ordered a white rose latte ($6). It was absolutely gorgeous in appearance and wonderful in flavor. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I had never ordered a rose drink before, but it was delicious! After much indecisive menu scanning, the server was super helpful in assisting me to make up my mind as to what I wanted for breakfast. She happily offered a few of her favorites as suggestions to which I ended up saying French toast sounded good but I didn't want a whole order. She informed me I was in luck! The French toast can be served as a half order ($6.50). I selected the cure French toast and it was super delicious. The blueberry preserves and lemon glaze married perfectly atop the perfectly cooked brioche French toast. I added a side of bacon ($4.50) which was also cooked well and flavorful. The interior of the establishment is very modern and chic. It has a very cool vibe and definitely a great vibe for brunch. I am very glad and thankful we had another visit to Prep & Pastry. Was going between 1-2 stars and the price for what you get is what made it a one star. Prep and pastry in Tucson is way better and this is the my 4th and final trip to the Gilbert location. My wife got the salmon hash and maybe she 2-3 ounces of salmon. My monte Cristo sandwich had one thin slice of ham and was the worst monte Cristo, lastly the biscuits from the biscuits and gravy were incredibly dry. Our waitress left half way through service and didn't tell us and we got no refills on coffee. Not surprised they weren't very busy during Friday brunch time. Do better read more

Great selection of drinks and food! Strawberry honey mimosa was the perfect sweetness. I could taste the harissa and olives in the Shakshuka which gave it great depth. I really wanted to like this place but the experience was terrible. We waited over an hour to get our food and by the time we got the food, it was cold. Getting shakshuka in a cast iron cold is quite unsettling. There was a tiny sprinkle of feta and maybe half of an olive. My friend's food came out so late that they had to just pack it into a to-go box. There was a hair in her daughter's pancakes. And the wildest thing was that our waiter said that they couldn't make my boyfriend's Bloody Mary because the CO2 was out for the beer back and apparently "someone was supposed to come tell you guys!" And seconds later, we see at least 6 people get Bloody Mary's. Instead of offering another drink, why couldn't he just offer the Bloody Mary without the beer back like everyone else? When we finally got our food, they expected me to just eat the soupy shakshuka with my hands, I guess. I had to walk to the front just to ask a hostess for our utensils. My boyfriend's duck confit had the smallest piece of cold duck. Since both meals that were served in cast iron were ice cold, our waiter attempted to comp our food and let us order something else. But after he took away my shakshuka, he never took my order. We decided to just call it quits and couldn't even get the check. We flagged a bus boy who said he would get our waiter and 20 minutes go by so we ended up asking another waiter. Their next lie to us was that he got moved inside...and what do ya know, we saw him serving 3 other outside tables around us as soon as we got our check. The waiter who finally was able to give us our check apologized and blamed the kitchen stating that they usually get orders wrong when people modify their meals... I didn't modify one thing. I ordered from the menu and didn't even add turkey or pork. We passed our waiter on the way out and he avoided our eye contact completely. We weren't the only ones who had a bad experience either! The table next to us also complained to the waiter for waiting over an hour who got there before us and their food AFTER us. But at least she was able to order her Bloody Mary. So I came back to try things out again but this time we went on an off day hoping to have a better experience. I have to say I was disappointed again but for different reasons. Our drinks came quickly this time, but with less than 10 tables of patrons between in and outside you'd think your coffee would at least be hot. You'd also think they might give you a spoon with that coffee and some sort of cream or milk but both had to be requested and took quite some time to get. The main part of my meal tasted very good, I had the Chorizo Croissant, but the potatos with it were barely warm and a few were actually cold inside. I should have taken a picture of my wife's grilled cheese so you could see the slice of cheese on it that hadn't been melted and was sticking out the side like it was on a cold sub sandwich. Her soup was also barely room temp and we probably should've complained but I'm not sure what that would've accomplished. The manager was pleasant and comped my coffee when she noticed it was still full to the brim because I just gave up on it but overall the experience just wasn't what I was looking for. The outside seating was very calming and a great setting for an early breakfast but sitting there and noticing how many people were going in and out of the restaurant across the street I couln't help but think we should have picked a different place. read more

While I generally love Prep and Pastry I needed to review the food recently. The Monte Cristo looks pretty at first and the taste was good but it was basically all bread. Look at the photo of the half I brought home. "Where's the ham"? A skimpy thin slice that barely covers the bread. So so disappoint yes for the price I/we paid. If you want ham on your monte cristo, don't get it here. So bummed. I will stick to something else next time. Sorry. Service is always great as well as ambiance. Please give more than a thin slice of ham though. read more

Wow what a wonderful surprise. Too many good choices made it hard to choose! Thank goodness Juanita helped us. She treated me like a Queen. It was my birthday and offered me a complimentary pastry. Drinks I had the butterfly mimosa and the coffee martini...highly recommend each. The martini was perfect not too sweet. I stopped in here for brunch on Sunday as it was the option in downtown Gilbert with the shortest wait time. The staff were courteous, and very accommodating even though we were having some trouble getting the details of our party worked out. We ended up having to switch tables because we had another adult join us unexpectedly. They got the booth set up promptly. I will say that the booth was rather cramped, and the weird table legs didn't allow for any leg room for those sitting on the ends. Only a minor inconvenience, though. We started with a round of drinks. I had the Cactus Annie. It was tart and refreshing, and I appreciate having alcohol free options that are presented like traditional cocktails. My grandma had the With a Vengeance. It was a perfectly balanced combo between sweet and fruity. It was the talk of the table! Onto food, I ordered the duck confit, which was delicious. I am gluten free, so I liked that the menu signifies which dishes are GF. The duck confit being one of them, it did not disappoint. I wish it had a little more meat, but overall it was very tasty and the goat cheese added an interesting element to it. I ordered mine with poached eggs instead of the standard over easy, which I would recommend. A lot of places get poached eggs wrong, and they end up coming out very rubbery and vinegary. Here at Prep and Pastry they were tender and had good egg flavor. The portion size was perfect, and there were no left overs. I'd love to go back and try some of their other options! read more

We ordered brunch via Yelp/Grubhub for takeout and overall it was a good experience. My husband said the service was really good when he went into pick up the order. When we arrived home, the food was in good condition and was overall really tasty. My only feedback is that the amount of bacon I got after paying $5.40 to add it to my avocado toast, was ridiculous. It wasn't even a full piece of bacon. It could've been a mistake, a symptom of the takeout experience, what have you but that rubbed me the wrong way. It won't deter us from trying again but hopefully it was just a one off situation and not a regular occurrence. I would still recommend this place if you want a tasty breakfast/brunch option in downtown Gilbert. read more

I've eaten at Prep and Pastry in Gilbert twice. You can access the restaurant from the parking lot via a rear door. This was especially convenient with the hot temps we are experiencing right now. The interior has an open and modern aesthetic. There is a coffee bar with a bakery display if you want to stop in for a quick cup and treat without bothering with a table. The menu isn't large, but there is a variety. I ordered the traditional egg breakfast during my first visit. My husband ordered the Monte Cristo. No surprises with the traditional breakfast, it was simple and therefore difficult to mess up. I must mention the breakfast potatoes. They use baby potatoes cut in half, skin left on. They were slightly crispy and seasoned well. The Monte Cristo's bread was lightly dusted with powdered sugar and had a french toast outer crust. The inside was stuffed with ham and cheese. My husband said it was the best Monte Cristo he has had, but not even close to how tasty the one served at the Blue Bayou. If you know, you know. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich served with fries on my 2nd visit. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The aioli was delicious and made the sandwich. The fries seemed fresh, but could have been seasoned better. My husband ordered the chicken salad sandwich served with fries. The sandwich came on a buttery croissant that was a bit on the dry side. The chicken salad mix was tasty and included chopped apples and grapes that gave balance and texture. The chicken to bread ratio was way off. There was about 1/2 cup of the chicken mixture spread across a large croissant. Although I love bread, there was definitely not enough chicken salad. We would not order this again. The service was terrible both visits. We waited a long time in between the initial greeting, ordering, getting our food, and getting the bill. I could not figure out how serving worked as we had a person greet us and give us water and another take our order, and another bring out our food. All of this was fine, but not timely. The serving staff were cordial but not friendly, if that makes sense. They did not have a sense of urgency and even seemed to forget that we were there. It was not busy both times (noonish). I also got a cinnamon roll during my first visit. It was moist and the topping wasn't overly sweet. It was delicious. I ordered a cinnamon roll during my 2nd visit, but they ran out. If you see a bakery treat in the display window, order as soon as you can vs waiting until the end of your meal. The bakery items are freshly made and limited quantities. Overall the food was good for what is was. I would give it another try because it's local before deciding to not return due to sub par service. read more

I was really excited to try this location, as we are regulars at the Scottsdale location. I was really disappointed to say the least in the food and service. We were seated promptly inside and received water. After sitting for 15 minutes and having other tables next to us that had come in after us receive their food, we were annoyed. I had to ask my boyfriend how long we were waiting before our waitress finally heard us and decided to come and take our order. She stated she was giving us a free pastry for her falling behind. Got the crodonut. (Think that's what it's called) wasn't impressed tbh. I ordered my usual, the duck confit and I also got a Bloody Mary (I hardly drink - I was able to chug this and not feel even a buzz compared the other location I can hardly drink 1/4 without getting buzzed.) Duck confit was okay. My boyfriend got the All Hail Omelette, he said it was just okay. When we were finished, our waitress came over with an iPad and never showed us the order total. The total was $57 before the tip... i had no idea until we left. I added all the items up and I'm confused how it got to that. After looking at their menu on here on Yelp, I realized the prices are higher like $2-$3 more per item. Really disappointed. Not sure what happened there, but their prices aren't correct. Tried calling the manager about this, and I was having to yell into the speaker in order for her to hear me. I ended up hanging up. Save your money and go to the Scottsdale location. read more

The food was all very good, however the service was horrible. When we sat down the waitress asked us if we wanted juice for the kids. The menu says drinks are included with the kids meal, so of course we assumed this was the included drink. She never bothered to tell us the juice wasn't included. If we had known we wouldn't have gotten the additional drinks or had them split one. To top it off they didn't give us the included drinks so we ended up paying for nothing. The other issue was there were a ton of servers but they all ignored our table. It seemed like others were getting served but no one was bothering to check on us. One server took our drinks and another took our food order, but neither came back to check on us before or after our food came. I'm not sure if they thought the other was helping us or what, but it was super annoying. I had an issue with my coffee and my wife never got her drink refilled, but by the time we realized we were being ignored we were already annoyed, done eating and just wanted to leave. I would recommend waiting a month or two to let them figure out their service issues before checking them out. read more
