Long on my list to try, but I don't go out for breakfast too often because I often feel like I can cook breakfast food just as good as going out. Henhouse was overall tasty and the service was good at the counter. It's a much larger restaurant than I expected from outside, so there is plenty of seating. I met a friend there after hot Pilates nearby so we were hungry and thirsty. One thing to know cause I thought it was odd, they don't allow water bottles. My friend had to leave it up front or put in her car. She opted to leave it up front at host stand, but that could have easily been forgotten. I haven't had too many places not allow insulated water bottles, especially a cafe, it's not a fancy place. I carry water everywhere I go in the summer, so just a heads up if you do also. We ordered breakfast and from lunch menu. And we shared our food. We also split the cinnamon roll. It was big and plenty for 2 people but just okay, I've enjoyed cinnamon rolls elsewhere more. I likely wouldn't order again, but was good to try it. I ordered the Ruben which was very good and I also liked the machaca and eggs. It was fun to see massive pancake delivered to another table. That thing is the size of a large pizza. I love pancakes and it's one of the few items that when I make at home are never as good as diners & breakfast restaurants so when I come back here, I'll have to order one and give that extra star if they are fluffy and yummy since the cinnamon roll fell a little short. I also would get my coffee elsewhere as it's a bit basic at henhouse-- it's just cold brew with okay tasting flavored creamer or iced coffee option (hot coffee poured over ice, I definitely didn't want that). read more

A fantastic locally owned cafe that definitely gets busy!!! We came after Pat's run to refuel the body and thankfully were just able to walk in and take a seat. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which I enjoyed. It was really filling. The salsa wasn't my favorite, but I could choose not to use it since it was served on the side and I used hot sauce instead. My husband has always wanted to come and order mom's world famous pancakes, so that is what he did. You have the option of adding blueberries or chocolate chips, so he added blueberries. Boy was this stack crazy!! He didn't even finish close to half. They even have pizza boxes for you to take the leftovers home with you. We may make this a delicious tradition every year! read more

I was craving a classic American brekkie, so we decided to stop by and it did not disappoint. I absolutely loved the chicken fried steak and the Texas Benedict. I asked for the potatoes extra crispy, and they came out perfectly so good. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Texas Benedict as well. The combination of cornbread with carnitas was especially delicious. Everything felt hearty and satisfying exactly what you want from a great breakfast spot. We went on a Saturday morning, and it wasn't too crowded. We were seated right away, placed our order quickly, and our food arrived within about ten minutes. The service was fast and efficient. Came here before our spring training game. Staff also had baseball gear on and it was so welcoming and fun! Service was top notch servers were excellent at having small talk and being efficient and everything was perfect. Our server recommended getting the cinnamon roll as an appetizer which I appreciate because it did hold us over until our food got to us. The best dish award goes to the pulled pork sandwich although next time I will skip the fries and order hashbrowns as the side. I will be back 10/10 read more

Came here this past weekend for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. The breakfast meatloaf was so unique and so flavorful. The service was efficient and our server was really friendly. It wasn't super busy as we went really early so it made for an enjoyable environment with an ability to take the time and eat. My husband loved that Texas benedict. Four of us stopped by yesterday for an early breakfast. The main draw was their infamous giant pancake we'd seen online -- but funny enough, none of us actually ordered it. At $24.99 for one pancake? Yeah... we passed. We started with the cinnamon roll as an "appetizer." Flavor-wise, it was solid, and they definitely didn't skimp on the frosting, very sweet and generous. I went with the breakfast sandwich (with sausage) and a side of breakfast potatoes. The sandwich was okay... nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. I ended up adding salt and pepper just to give it a little kick. The potatoes, though... oof. I hate to say it, but they tasted like they were cooked in motor oil. Maybe it was a new pan or some old oil, but either way, they just weren't good. Even after salt, pepper, and hot sauce, I couldn't finish them; and that's saying something because I love breakfast potatoes. Total bummer. On the bright side, the service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly, and the place itself had a cozy, homestyle vibe, like somewhere you'd stumble on up north. Henhouse cafe started as a small operation in 2010 and has grown to four locations here in AZ. They are located in Mesa, two in Gilbert, and the fourth just opened in Tempe. They have won "Best of Gilbert" awards for many years. We ate at the 3rd installment right across the road from Sloan Park in Mesa. My HH breakfast sandwich was delicious. It's a large biscuit with fried chicken, cheddar cheese, bacon, fried egg, and gravy. The kids could only eat less than half of the huge chocolate chip pancakes. These were big, but the "mom's famous pancake" we saw come out to other tables was huge! The Texas benedict was a fun twist on a favorite; carnitas on cornbread with green chile hollandaise. Everything was tasty and the farmhouse decor is cute. We all walked out full and with leftovers. They offer 10% off daily for service members and 15% on Mondays. Dear future foodies, Certified former fat kid here with the taste buds of a 5-year-old, so take this review with that in mind I like my breakfast sweet enough to make my dentist nervous. I came here on a mission to try the world's biggest pancakes. Mission accomplished--they were absolutely gigantic. I honestly don't think I've ever seen pancakes that big. I was expecting them to be fluffy, buttery, and sweet, but they were a little denser than I prefer. They definitely weren't bad, just not a step above what I'd expect from an average IHOP or Denny's pancake. I also ordered the cinnamon roll. It leaned more toward the bread side than the gooey dessert side, which just isn't my preference. I was hoping for a rich, sweet cream cheese icing, but the frosting had a bit of citrus zest that wasn't really my thing. Overall, if you're after huge portions, this place definitely delivers. I just think my expectations were a little too high because of all the hype. The food wasn't inedible by any means--it just didn't quite match what I was hoping for. I had the chicken fried chicken breakfast with a biscuit and it comes with sausage gravy over the biscuit and the chicken fried chicken and oh my goodness I have to tell you the chicken fried chicken is hand breaded and was cooked perfectly and I had half crunchy and half soft potatoes, and over easy eggs absolutely delicious!! The restaurant was very clean and orderly and family oriented, which was very nice Our server was outstanding. Our drinks were always full. Our food was perfect. So we came for brunch on mother's day. We were glad it wasn't packed. My roommate wanted to try this place. I just wanted pancakes and they only have two different plates of pancakes weird for a breakfast place but ok. I got the big pancake it was really good. Except they put powder sugar on it( not a fan of it, and it didn't say it on the menu). And she got the big plate of everything that's breakfast with French toast. The atmosphere was good. We really lucked out because we went the day after Christmas and there was no wait for a table. When we left an hour later, all tables were full and there were a dozen people waiting. The decor is farmhouse and very warm and friendly. Our server was attentive. There was a seasonal and regular menu, everything on the menu was a full meal, I was just looking for a side while my hungry dining partners had a big meal but there were none listed, so I got swayed by a lemon blueberry mariscone pancake. It was huge, bigger than the dinner plate it was served on. I would've preferred a much smaller pancake with more blueberries and mascarpone. I don't know anyone who would've eaten that whole thing! My family loved the Mexican Benedict, the chipotle hollindase sauce was creamy and spicy. The only problem we ran into is the Benedict were served about 15 minutes before the pancake. The Henhouse was packed but the 10-15 minute wait was worth our time. As soon as we were seated Briana was there to take our drink orders and answer questions about items on the menu. The BLT was standard fare. The Breakfast Burrito was so large our guest cut it in two for a takeout. She was quite pleased with the taste. The Lemon Blueberry Mascarpone Pancake was very HUGE (enough for 3-4 people) and there was nothing lost in the flavor. My wife's complaint was she was given a very small container of syrup for such a big pancake. There was plenty of gravy on the Biscuits and Gravy. The bacon was cooked properly but the over easy eggs were slightly undercooked. The "home fries" were an excellent side for this meal. The decor was appropriate for the Henhouse theme. The waitstaff all wore T-shirts that gave us a good laugh! "The rooster may crow...but the hen delivers" This was a fun experience and one we'll repeat the next time we're in Mesa! read more
