Listen let me tell you this every dish my daughter and I had was a 10 out of freaking 10!!!!! That chef kissed that food just right !!! I had been wanting to try the place for while as we been to their sister restaurant "honey hole" nearby so came over to Prey and we did not leave disappointed at all !!! In fact already planning a return !! So beautiful and upscale looking ...... Check out our dishes below !! It was very quiet in terms of ppl Saturday at about 1240 but the playlist was perfect and the volume level just right !! Those suya lamb chops my God !!

We needed a place to eat before the Cowboy Carter concert so we checked out Prey on Post Oak and really enjoyed the experience. The dark, moody ambiance gave it a cool vibe, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout. The menu is on the smaller side, but everything we tried was packed with flavor. I mean, like, really packed. Seasonings and butter, my two favorite food groups. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the oxtail empanadas were good, and the mac and cheese was macin' and cheesing. Prices are on the higher end, but that's expected for the area. Bonus: it's right above Original Ninfa's. Great spot if you're looking for rich, flavorful food in a stylish setting.

I went on a Sunday for brunch, and it was a vibe. I will say the service wasn't great. Not that they were mean or anything, but it just seemed a little chaotic--maybe we had a new waiter or something. The food also took a while to come out. That being said, the food was absolutely delicious. The portions were a bit on the smaller side, but the flavors were great. Acadian Shrimp & Grits: 9/10 It was really good! I especially liked the incorporation of spicy andouille sausage and crawfish into the grits. The shrimp were nice and crispy, and the flavor was there. However, I do wish the grits had a bit more flavor and spice throughout, and they skimped a little on the sausage and crawfish. I also got a side of catfish, which was well-seasoned, though it could've been crispier. Surf & Turf: 9/10 It had pretty much the same flavor profile, although it was a lot more filling. The oxtail was mouthwatering and tender--one of the best ways I've seen oxtail cooked in fine dining. Overall, this place is great if you want a brunch vibe and some good food. I'd just recommend ordering an appetizer or side to fill you up. P.S. They also have a lot of great alcoholic drinks lol

This place is cute, but I wouldn't go back. The cheapest item on the menu was $47, and the food wasn't great enough to justify the price. The server asked if we were celebrating anything, and we mentioned it was our anniversary--but they didn't acknowledge it at all. It was a bit awkward. I ordered the lamb chops, which arrived pretty cold. They were served on a wooden plate with a bunch of greens, and the fried rice wasn't great--3/10. My husband got the hibachi pasta, which was disappointing as well--4/10. There was nothing "hibachi" about it.

Prey is a fine dining restaurant that impresses from the moment you walk in. With a business casual dress code, it sets the tone for an elevated experience, so come dressed accordingly. We chose Prey to celebrate a birthday, and from the start, our waiter was exceptionally kind, offering great recommendations for both food and drinks. I opted for their signature lamb chops, which arrived as a beautifully plated dish of four succulent lamb chops on a bed of seasoned rice. The savory sauce drizzled on top was perfectly balanced, adding a rich depth to the flavors. During the day, the restaurant is bright and airy due to natural lighting, but in the evening, the lights are dimmed for a more intimate ambiance. One unique aspect is the open kitchen, which allows diners to see the chefs in action. However, being so close to the kitchen, it did get noticeably warm and humid in the dining area. While the open concept is interesting, we left smelling of the grill and barbecue - something I wish was less noticeable with a private kitchen setup.

Server was great, but the greatness stops there. First thing I was greated with was a leaky ceiling that dripped water on my pants. Ordered a Sprite to drink because the cheapest non alcoholic drink was a lemonade ($7) or a soda ($4). I assumed free refills--no, they don't have a fountain. They used cans, flight attendant style. You get a glass of Sprite that the first half of the can was used on someone else's cup an hour ago. Crab hash was okay at best. HEB hashbrowns that were soggy and oily and no crab in sight. And to top it off -- 3% credit card transaction fee. Not even gas stations do that anymore. Skip this place.

Came to Prey and sat at the bar for 2. Bartender was super sweet and we ordered a lychee martini and it was delicious. The ambiance was nice and they were playing great rnb music for the night. There was hookah available for outdoor seating which you have to walk by all the smoke/hookah to enter into the front entrance. (Probably not great for kids or babies to breathe in) Let's get into the food. (I've dropped photos for reference) - We ordered the oxtail empanadas and I was super excited for these until I broke one in half and I see 99% air and 1% oxtail. From the oxtail I was able to find, the taste was good so I was disappointed on why more than half of the empanadas were close to being empty. Mind you this dish was $16... for air. - our main we ordered the filet king. This was a surf and turf with crab meat, shrimp and scallop. Once we got our dish delivered, we noticed there was no scallop. We ask our bartender to check in with the chef and she comes back to tell us that the chef informed her that they ran out, so he's making us more shrimp. We were thrown off by this because we weren't told about the dish missing scallop until after we had said something/noticed it. The food runner who delivered the dish didn't mention a word about the missing ingredient. We didn't want more shrimp so we politely declined and asked for the scallop to be taken off the tab for the night which they did. Steak was on the thinner side but the flavor and sauce on the steak was delicious. Price was $75. - Side of Truffle Mash, great mashed potatoes, but there wasn't even the smallest hint of truffle.... Price: $11 Truthfully the food wasn't bad in terms of taste. It was just disappointing because the food was not as advertised. The food runners looked like they weren't approachable. And forgot to mention, the women's bathroom had no light switch. So it was completely dark with one toilet stall wrapped in a trash bag. We even tried to activate the light sensor by walking around and jumping throughout the bathroom but nothing happened. There was also an auto 20% gratuity which made no sense for 2 people at the bar.. we were not told of the auto grat until we checked the receipt. All in all, very overpriced for the way the restaurant operated.

My first time here at PREY . Drinks were A1 . No complaints on that . But let's get into this food . Starting with the crawfish fondue - literally it gave Velveeta with a can of rotelle and crawfish with melted mozzarella on top. The mozzarella cheese that was actually on top was barely melted.. I'm gonna rate that a 3 out of 10. For the oxtail empanadas when they walk out the plate, the oxtail empanadas didn't have any oxtail meat in it, but overall the taste was about a 6 out of 10. I really don't have high expectations. Don't label something as a fondue and it's not a fondue. They definitely could've did better with the empanadas but overall the drinks were the best part if I were to come back, I would literally just come back to sit at the bar for the drinks. See photos . Now, as far as service, our waiter was amazing and the ambience was on point, but I just need the food to match the energy .

The ambiance and service were great! But the food was lacking. Majority of our meals came out cold and we had to send them back. The food was pretty bland especially the Imperial Salmon. It also took forever to get the bills. The drinks are also very pricey.

If you want good food and a nice date night or brunch atmosphere Prey is your spot. My husband and I came here last year for a date night. He got the oxtails and I got a shrimp dish. Both were very good I just wish he had more of the oxtails on his plate...he had 1 big 1. This time I came for brunch and got the shrimp and gritts. My friends got everything else on the menu...I wish I would have taken more pics. The oxtails this time was a very hefty portion and very tasty and def fall off the bone. The chicken wings were soo good and a little spicy which I loved. The drinks are very good but a little pricy I think 18 for a hard liquor drink (but was good and strong) and 8 for a mimosa...that's not too bad. The waiters was great. She had our waters and drinks flowing. I will def be back.

I arrived with a party of 6 for brunch and we were quickly seated. Surprisingly it was empty when we arrived, maybe 1pm but it quickly grew. It's a small place but it's cute and has a cool vibe. I think the website said hookah, we asked but they do not offer hookah. Our waiter was kind and patient as we asked about the menu. The table tried all different meals and we were all very satisfied. It went from crab hash to oxtail and grits. I wanna say the food was a lil pricey but it was so good, we didn't complain. I will definitely visit again when in H town. read more

Food was good. I had the chicken of the sea. It was laid over boudin rice. Really tasteful. I would definitely recommend this spot!!!! They have a dress code but don't enforce it. I'd strongly recommend they start enforcing it to keep the atmosphere grown and sexy. Ask for Marcus. read more

I will say I took my wife here and we had a great time. If you like seafood this is a great place. The ambiance is very trendy and upscale. The service was a little slow and was a little pricey so if on a budget not the place for you but you looking to go out and have a great time this is the spot. read more

One pointer for those who don't know, you can park in the garage for free...do not pay for valet!! The restaurant was smaller than I expected it to be. However the ambiance was cool and classy. We did have to wait a while before being approached by staff to be seated even with a fairly empty restaurant. However this is the most we had to wait the entire night. It did not take long for our food to arrive. We ordered the oxtail empanadas for an appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was so good that we had to split the last one. Lol. For entrée, my friend ordered the Oxtails and I had the Imperial Cajun Salmon. Both were delicious. The oxtails melted in your mouth. The salmon was flavorful down to the sautéed spinach! For the sides, we got sweet yam, which tasted close to a sweet potato pie and the corn brûlée. The brûlée was brought out undone which was disappointing. Our server took it back to the kitchen but it was still subpar as it did not have the crunchy top that was expected. It was also super super sweet, like almost too sweet. The drinks were a little pricey but tasty. I don't really care for the added gratuity with even a 2 person party. I am usually a good tipper anyways so it wasn't a total turn off. The food was not very good for the price point.... It was very disappointing they are charging over price for 5 fried shrimp... that's ridiculous. They don't have any grill shrimp options or any other non fried seafood options. This makes me speculate that it seems it's frozen food or that they are over charging us for the easiest style of cooking seafood. The best thing on the menu were the brussel sprouts and the cheese dip (expensive side dishes) not even the main dish. The drinks didn't taste like alcohol which could be a good thing and bad thing. I'm baffled that the restaurant is scamming so many people for over price food because this Restaurant taste like Lotus seafood with a limited menu and extra $20 for every plate. Also what is up with only having 5-8 course meals on the menu. No variety. The service was awful they were questioning my simple request. For example I asked for "hot sauce" and they responded are you sure you have this ingredient in your plate. Very rude. (This Is an example). Also the waitresses and servers were only speaking to themselves the whole night we had to call them over multiple times. They seemed to not want to be there at any moment. It was my friends birthday and they did not have any birthday sweet treat for her. Nothing special. You are only paying for low lighting and dollar store florals on the wall. read more

Went for their Valentine's Day dinner and my boyfriend and I were both disappointed. Our reservation was at 7:45, we were seated immediately. However, it took 45 minutes for our appetizers to come out. We ordered the oxtail empanadas and the deviled eggs. The empanadas were fine, but the fried shrimp on top of the deviled eggs was cold. It took about another 15-20 minutes to get our entrees. I got the Imperial Salmon, this was alright, not good enough to make me return. My boyfriend got the surf and turf and it arrived extremely cold. We notified our waitress and the manager came out to inform us that the kitchen was extremely backed up but he would apply a 15% discount to our meal and comp the dessert. They eventually warmed up my boyfriend's food (in the microwave) and we ordered a couple of drinks. We ordered the rainwater and the raspberries and cream. The drinks were the best part of the whole experience (barely) I ordered a French 75 first and the Champaign used was cheap and had a weird after taste. So I'd say if you do decide to dine here and drink, stick with the drinks that are already on their cocktail menu. The ambiance and aesthetic is nice, but unfortunately, like so many other places in Houston, it ended there and the food and service was lack luster. The Valentine's Day meal came with 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and a dessert. So we finished off the night with their bread pudding. This too was only okay and obviously warmed up in the microwave. Tasted like it might've been made a day or two prior. In the end for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, a dessert and 4 drinks we were charged $290, this includes the 15% discount and the complimentary dessert. So in my opinion, this is a bit over-priced especially for the service and food we received. I will not be returning. read more

I have been wanting to try Prey for quit some time and I must say this was my first and last time. The lamb chops really small and burnt. The place is over priced the services was not very well waiter came checked on us one time yet we are paying a 20% gratuity she ended Up getting near 100 just from our table. The only reason I am giving it 2 star is because of the ambiance the inside is very nice. read more

The wife and I enjoyed the restaurant, Prey, last night. We walked in and the hostess sat us down. She wasn't very friendly and didn't seem happy to be there. The waitress more than made up for it. She was extremely friendly and gave us her suggestions. We took some and they were on point. Likewise, the food was very good. My wife had the lamb chops and I had the Acadian pasta. She told me it was spicy and it was and was extremely good. My wife loved the chops. The portions were effective also. It is pricey, but the service, good and ambience make it worth it. If you get a chance to go, GO! read more

Whew. We came here for brunch and we were not disappointed. I apologize in advance for not capturing a photo for you all. I had the pound cake French toast and my husband had the chicken and waffles. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I highly recommend coming here. Reservation was for 1 and they let us come in an hour early. We walked in at 12 and now it's 12:38 and I am typing a review. Talk about fast and efficient service. The drinks were tasty as well, we had the post oak and honey suckle. great vibe and atmosphere we will be back to try the dinner menu. read more

I wanna start by saying if I would've listened to the bad reviews, I would've missed out. I had dinner here on my birthday, the food was well seasoned. We had spring rolls, seafood dip, lobster pasta, lamb chops and the lazy cat. The only dish that needed work was the pasta, my friend said it tasted like ramen noodles, other than that the vibe was nice, the played r&b. My drink just tasted like watered down blueberry juice. I'll definitely come back with my friends for Prey after dark. read more

Well I would give 5 stars if service was a little bit better. I wanted to support a black business and eat great food however, my visit was not as awesome as I would have liked it to be. I stopped by Prey in Houston and I must say the restaurant is a cute little GEM. Upon arriving the entrance was cute. The red chairs and set up was very nice. The music was great. It was a good atmosphere. I ordered the empanadas and it was delicious. However, grizzle's were left in the empanadas so my sister ending up choking. The chef came out and apologized and he replaced the empanadas but once it was replaced I still had bones in it that I had to pick out. The server was very refreshing upon arriving however, he took forever to get us out of there when we was ready to go. I believe if the waiters could be a little be more attentive and smile a little bit more while at work. People with give this restaurant 5 stars. Oh I also was double charged so check your bank statements!! They have to do better with that. Otherwise this is a nice little date night spot. read more

Fantastic food, views, and music. The only problem I had is that the chairs that are with the high tables are very small for the average behind and if your carrying a purse, you can't put it anywhere but on your lap, not the ground. If they can get wider seats, it makes it more relaxing to sit outsid.e to enjoy the views. Other than that, the food is amazing and the cocktails are great. The staff was very professional and very nice to the guest. If your parking valet, they want $20 to be up front or $8.00 to park out of site. I returned today and had a chance to eat inside. Raimon was awesome. You have to request him. He is knowledge knowledgeable and great recommendations for food. The music is still awesome. Please go, it's the best. read more

Oh how I hate to do it when I'm tryna support black business but we gotta be fair. This was an absolutely terrible way to start 2023 food tour but let's give da play by play! So we had reservations for 12pm brunch on New Years day and we came in and were seated right away (by whom I found out was the manager later). Even better than to be seated right away was the fact that 10 other patrons were smiling as we came in (low attendance) . Seated and we were told to a server would be coming momentarily. 10mins later our server came and took our order but that was fine because the menu is QR code so we were browsing the options. After we ordered it literally took another 10mins to get a glass of water. Next up our food orders come out and we are still waiting on our drinks from the bar. Did I mention it was only 2 of us and we ordered 1 drink... Ok so I ordered the lamb (medium) and eggs and my fiance ordered fish and grits and a side of wings cause we heard they was good. The lamb comes out and right away I see well done meat so I send it back. The fish and grits look good but no wings. 10mins later the waitress comes back and we tell her the wings never came out and she remembers that she didn't enter the order in. That's a no from me. Priced as a fancy steakhouse. Less than satisfactory service. Had to ask for silverware which arrived 5min after asked. Seafood was undercooked and fishy. Drinks about $20 each. Customers in booty shorts which I wouldn't expect at a place that was $50 per entree. For their pricing, go to an actual steakhouse where you receive better service and an esthetically pleasing environment read more

Horrible place, we were kicked out without eating, (we were onlyable to get one drink and one app), it was NOTour fault. The (tall thin) manager working Sunday night (June 19, 2022) was horrible. As being former servers, my husband knew what he did and how he talked about the server (Manny) to us was UNACCEPTABLE. Our server Manny was great. However we have our contact information for the owner, who is also from Louisiana to contact us so we could tell him about and give him a chance to make it right and we haven't heard ANYTHING. While delays happen and I was willing to overlook that, the experience only went downhill from there. We ordered Palomas to kick off our Friday night. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

My recent dining experience at this establishment was nothing short of disappointing. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this visit would not live up to my expectations. The issues with both the customer service and food quality were hard to ignore. Our waiter, Kim, did little to enhance our visit. Throughout the evening, Kim seemed disinterested and inattentive, making it a challenge to place our orders and receive our food in a timely manner. Speaking of the food, it fell far short of what one would expect. The dishes lacked flavor, and the presentation was uninspiring. It was evident that the kitchen was not paying attention to the details, resulting in a subpar dining experience. To make matters worse, we were served two bottles of hot champagne, a completely unacceptable oversight. We made an effort to address this issue by sending the champagne back twice, but it was never rectified. This, combined with Kim's lackluster service, has firmly cemented my decision to never return to this establishment. In my opinion, there is a significant need for improvement in customer service, food quality, and attentiveness to customer concerns before I would even consider giving this place another chance. read more

I made a reservation for 8:15 pm, with a 10-minute grace period, but arrived at 8:20 pm. Upon my arrival, the host informed my guests that the table had been given to another party and needed to be cleaned before seating us. We understood, but the situation changed when a couple walked in and offered the host $40 for a table, despite being told they would have to wait. The host accommodated them instead of us, resulting in my table and another waiting for over 30 minutes before deciding to sit outside. Unfortunately, the outside experience was equally terrible, due to the lack of propane and disappearing waiters leading to delays in our beverages. However, we broke the uncomfortable silence with our joking comments, which the waiter appreciated and apologized for the inconvenience. Despite eventually settling in and finishing our meal, I believe Prey is overpriced for the subpar service they offer. Furthermore, the automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill is outrageous for the experience you will receive. Overall, I do not recommend Prey at all. read more

I don't normally leave reviews but I went to prey last night and I loved everything about it! Decor is really nice, very picturesque. I had a blueberry side car & honeysuckle for drinks. They were tasty and strong. The menu offers a variety of drinks most are sweet but they have a full list of available liquor from the bar. For dinner I had the chicken of the sea pasta... can I say AMAZING. It was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the bread pudding for dessert and it was literally the best I've ever had. Prey is pricey, like any other upscale restaurant in uptown but it's well worth it. I regularly eat at mastros, steak 48, williegs and honestly you aren't going to get this flavor profile anywhere else! You should expect to spend a bit when coming here but food is well worth it. Prey is a hot commodity it was packed and reservations are recommends at least on a Friday or Saturday This will definitely be my new spot in Houston! read more

Went to Prey Houston tonight for a little celebration with girlfriends. Was greeted by the hostess who was really sweet. We wanted a table but need half of our party to be there before being seated. So we made it to the bar and found seating because they were not to busy. The plan was to get one drink until the remaining party would arrive. We were greeted right away by Rikki! And I have to say that's where the whole experience went to another level. Rikki was very helpful in recommending drinks and food. Needless to say, we stayed at the bar. I had a reservation for 4 guests at 10pm. We didn't get sat until 10:45 when they close at 11pm. The hostess didn't greet us when we came or anything just a "did y'all have a reservation?" After waiting for over 20 minutes I asked what was going on. They said they were "overbooked". After finally being sat down, we ordered food and one of the guests in my party's food was incorrect. She ended up sending the food back and not eating given everything that had happened prior. The experience was not enjoyable due to the lack of professionalism and "overbooking." The manager did not apologize for the experience, but he did give us a free appetizer, which didn't smooth us over because it's not just about free food. It was a mediocre experience, but the high prices and mandatory gratuity left a lot to be desired. We dined there for dinner, but I'm hesitant to return. The food took a long time to arrive, and there was a mix-up in serving our table where we didn't all receive food at the same time. Additionally, the Lemon drop flight was warm, so I had to request ice to cool it. To top it off, after spending a significant amount on our meals, we were informed that we had exceeded our allotted time and had to vacate the premises. I'm hesitant about businesses that seem to impose unnecessary rules. read more

I went to Prey for lunch today and it was AMAZING. Chef G came and introduced himself and he is a wonderful person. We shared the etouffee and catfish platter which tasted great. BUT the mac and cheese and lamb greens stole the show. I have never had lamb in greens, always turkey, but these were so DELICIOUS. Everything was flavorful but not salty. He also gave us a complimentary plate of oxtail/shrimp on a bed a cabbage that was top tier. This place is a hidden gem. I can't wait to go back on Tuesday for poetry night. read more

LISTEN!!!!!!!! Everything and I do mean EVERYTHING was phenomenal from the host to the servers to the chefs! It's been a long time since I've have spectacular service and food. I travel for a living and have been all over the world experiencing different cultures and cuisine. Prey gives culture, excellent cuisine and ambiance. Ok so this was my first time in Htown and this restaurant popped up on black houston on IG and am I so very happy it did!!! Vibe is everything. Food and drinks did not disappoint. Wait staff extremely friendly and helpful to this newcomer. I will def return when in town. Cajun salmon will NOT disappoint. read more

Such a romantic and elegant spot. Service was superb and our waitress Kay did not disappoint. The music was at just right volume. Food came out quickly from the drinks to apps to the main course. Most definitely will be back and maybe I'll come alone because the vibe is just right for a self love date . read more

Recently moved to Houston and found tho spot on IG. The atmosphere is very sexy and cool. I had the honeysuckle drink (Amazing) and the Lobsta Pasta. Food was so good and out server Kaye top notch! Make sure you make reservations because it was busy. Loved it and will definitely come back again! read more

Ericc! The bartender here is amazing, he is so attentive and quick with the service! Ask for Eric when you come and you will not be disappointed. The ambiance of the place gives black excellence, and the owner, Tim is amazingg and really showed us a great time, Pray is good in me books! read more

Celina hands down the best waitress in the building her service was hands down the best I've seen in a long time. never once per our glass get low, constantly made sure we were good and the food was delicious. This place is a must come too....you will not be disappointed I promise. read more

This place is so cute and has a great ambience. The space is small so it can get a bit crowded but we sat on the patio and it was pretty busy but our server kept his cool. The drinks were delicious and although we waited awhile for our food it was definitely worth the wait!!! read more

Me and my wife went here and had the best service imaginable. Ask for Brittany as your server if you ever visit here. Brittany was always available and was very knowledgeable on the menu. We'll definitely be coming back because of her. This is an amazing establishment. read more
