Beware of Public Storage on Dagget Street. After using various storage facilities in California for the last 15 year, this is the only company I've encountered that increases your rent by 400% (50 to 250) after you settle in while all the newcomers pay your original rent price. I have been here for 15 years (not much longer) and the amount of overpayment comes out to $35,000. Us affected parties should get together and start a lawsuit against Public Storage. I'm sharing this because I truly hope I can help someone avoid the pain I went through. I signed up at this storage place, lured in by the "first month half-off or free" offer. I rented a 15x13 unit for $156 a month -- and in less than two years, they raised it to $280. My unit was a dark, lonely corner with no light, but the manager kindly let me use the overhead outlet. I was so grateful for that small kindness. But today, on my final day there, new staff came and told me I couldn't use the light anymore. I had to move all my things out, completely in the dark, surrounded by pests. I can't explain how heartbreaking and exhausting it was it drained me emotionally and mentally. Please, if you're reading this, think carefully. We don't need to carry so much extra stuff or pay extra bills every month just to store things we might never use again. Donate to the less fortunate, free yourself of that burden. This company can change the rules anytime they want, and I just pray my story reaches someone even just one person and saves them from going through what I did. I had my MacBook Air stolen I had my Louis Vuitton backpack And my moms brief which had another briefcase in it and some expensive clothing Every time I'd go to check on my stuff I always noticed 2 of there staff always looking and acting suspicious. I went to check on my stuff one day and when I got there was no sign of break in, but everything of mine was scattered like they been through my entire unit! Immediately I started cleaning it up when I noticed all those things missing. That same day I moved out also the worker there named Joe was always around when I would be checking my unit so happen to ask me everything thing is okay? I told him what happened and he filed a report, the next day I went in there to cancel everything the lady at the desk told me that my unit had already been canceled I was confused and asked her who did it she said JOE, I asked if he was in that day she said no! Set up lease online. Unit was worse than advertised and smelled enough that I didn't want to keep clothes in the unit. Door next to the space I'd planned to use was open and could not be locked because the locking hardware was broken. Never used the space and canceled same day. Probably the worst company I've ever done business with. At first it was a rate for a decent space no ac but we were ok with that. Little did we know that they would raise the rate 6 times in one year! We started at $189 and now it's our rate is at $440 with no upgrades to anything. Plenty of storage units available but they claim it's due to demand. Tons of reviews like this so I don't get it they're just doing shady business. I hope people read the bad reviews about this place before they get in. Yeah it's nice at first but wait till you put all your stuff in there just for you to have to take it all out because what they initially promised is a lie. Reserved a promotion unit, with second month free. I have 2 email confirmations AND a confirmation via text THIS morning for appointment to pay and sign contract before 5:30pm tonight. I showed up at 5:05pm and was informed the unit is not available, no explanation as apparently the humans here are ruled by the computer. I was offered a less desirable, smaller option, which will not provide the needed space, and with out the second month free. This place is not honorable, or fair, and takes no responsibility for their errors. Called the manager, MARY WADE who also provided no explanation of why, other than a "possible computer glitch". I find it hard to believe that you, a human being can't override a computer to make a managerial decision and honor the promotion that was promised in the first place. First off, Mike is absolutely great. The Company is what I took big issue with. I have been in the unit for 4 months and already the rate was increased about 30%. Mike attempted a request to leave my rate as it was but the request was denied. I called Public Storage customer service and was told by the service agent that those units are in demand so they can charge what they wish as they will get rented out. She was rude and hung up before I could say anything more. Very poor customer service in my opinion. As I said, Mike the on-site manager was great. He was apologetic, disappointed and understood. Told me I was the fifth customer calling in today with the same complaint. read more

CRAZY EXPENSIVE - ABSOLUTELY NO BREAKS ONCE THEY HOOK YOU!!! In 23 months, my unit rent has gone from $265 to $499! A matching unit is advertised online today for $306, while my rent will be $499 starting September 1. My latest 30% increase is just 9 months after a 33% increase, and my first increase took place just 4 months after my initial payment. Don't count on the move-in special rate, because if you can't take the exact unit you first reserved, they'll say their "special" doesn't apply to the unit they offer instead. The site is kept up okay, but when you're paying this much for an unheated room, it should be! You will have to walk a long way on a very steep hill to access the only cart on site. Expect a price increase within 6 months and every 9 months thereafter. As I noted, the rent has almost doubled in less than 2 years. To me, this shows your customers that you don't appreciate their business or their money. Perhaps the cost of moving is enough of a barrier to keep people trapped? It's certainly not the stellar service or stable prices. read more

He was able to help me without any issues. I also broke some glass to which he told me not to worry as he would clean it up for me (I did not have any cleaning tools with me at all). At this point they'll got you over a barrel. Knowing that you don't want to pay for a moving truck to move your shit to another facility forcing you to pay. I guess I'm old fashioned, but Public Storage's all web based business model made me feel like I am living in the future. A kind of William Gibson cyberpunk future where Johnny Mnemonic can access his storage unit from the other side of the world. I rented my unit, got an emails and a link to their app, then when I brought the stuff-to-be-stored, it was all after hours, didn't require any office staff (who are always grumpy in my experience with other storage places, don't know why), and I just sailed through the gate and the elevator and was out of there way faster than I'd thought. Very clean, scrupulously wel maintained, secure storage. Thank you, Public Storage. A follow up- I did get a call from Mike at the storage center I use, just to make sure things went okay. The door is always locked and no one answers the phone. A man on the property saw me and I called him over. He tells me he will be in the office shortly. After 20 minutes he still has not shown up. Just standing here waiting on him to close up a unit. No sight of the guy. No post outside stating what time he will return. Just leaves and has no regards for anyone's time. Terrible service. On top of that I JUST FOUND OUT SOMEONE BROKE INTO MY STORAGE AND STOLE MY STUFF EASILY 3K worth of stuff tvs gone printers tools etc !! I pay wayy too much money for this to be happening to me !! I expect better service it's too expensive here for this !! And they don't have cameras???! Total bullshit once again I pay for insurance and I expect the storage company to help they simply don't care !!! I've been waiting for over 4 hours on police to show up and still the workers show no help or Ask if we need anything won't and don't recommend this place to anyone they break into your storage and steal !!! read more

I have had the WORST experience with public storage. We have had our unit since Oct/Nov and have not had one pleasant encounter. First, when we went to go look at the location, the woman who helped us did not know the property or where any of the units were. After following her around for 10 min, she realized she didn't have the correct key. Waited for another 10 min because she refused to walk back to the office to get the correct keys. Couldn't figure out the paperwork, etc. The whole process took a couple hours despite the fact that I had reserved the unit online prior. Extremely unorganized and unprofessional. Second, we have had the unit for less than a year and they have increased my monthly rent well into covid-19. I originally thought I had scored with a great deal but I now fear that my rent will be increased every few months. After requesting it stay the same, I received a call stating that the increase was mandatory. I feel taken advantage of. I wish I had NEVER gotten a storage unit with Public Storage. I'm now looking at other facilities. read more

There is no rent control on storage unit- which is insane! Upon moving out-- they also do NOT prorate for the month. I was very pleased with my relation with this company until I saw a little note on dec 29 2022 announcing that they will increase my rate from $480 to $630 on 2/1/23..... 31% increase, !!!!! I have rented storage unit XXXX at Public Storage, 7545 Dagget St, San Diego 92111 for over 16 years. I just now discovered that the door from the parking area to the interior of the building no longer locks. I phoned this Public Storage location today. I advised the gentleman that answered the phone that the lock was broken. He said that they have decided to replace all the locks with just doorknobs - which don't lock - due to the number of times the locking knobs had to be replaced. My unit is just inside that door. I told him that was a ludicrous decision as the area was full of homeless individuals who now would have unlimited access to the units. Our units would be 100% susceptible to break-ins. I told him that I would have to move to another storage company. His response - "Do what makes you happy." AFTER 16 YEARS AS A CUSTOMER THAT HAS PAID $1000S OF RENTAL FEES!! I moved to U HAUL and got the same size for $124 and its CLIMATE CONTROLLED. Public storage don't even have any type of dolly to help you and their units are super hot. All of our things were stolen while we rented a storage unit for 9 months. We found out about it when we tried to put more stuff. It was locked but used a different lock and it had a Public Storage sticker. Of course we called a police and got a police report and a manager opened the locked storage. It was almost empty. More than 5k worth of things were stolen including my silk kimono. At least we had the cheapest insurance that was finally paid us for 3k after 3 months. But all the things that had memories will never return. Problem about this place is so many people seem to be living at this storage. Also, no security or cameras inside of the storage buildings. People can in and out for free once you can enter the gate. The gate seems to be always opened. read more

Talk about good customer service! Some of the friendliest people I've ever met work here! After I made my reservation through the 1-800 number they told me to call the local store to confirm. Before I had a chance to dial my phone they were calling me. The woman I spoke to was very kind & explained everything clearly. I went in today to see if the size I reserved was going to be big enough & it was, but they had one a little smaller (& cheaper). The woman also showed me that size & it was perfect. I went back to the office & she quickly changes the size. While she dis that her co-worker Benjamin occupied me with some fun conversations. This included him asking what time I would need to move in on Friday to make sure someone wasn't gone on break when I came in! How considerate!!! Once that was done I also bought a box & Ben offered to carry it to my car (an empty box mind you)! I was parked kind of far & he still insisted but I ensures him I could handle it :) If you need storage in San Diego, this is the place!!! read more

Would not recommend this place to anyone. Would like to give this place no stars! Within the first week of renting a unit here they called the police on me for being inside the gate right at closing time without any warning or coming by and saying anything to me. I was finishing up moving my last box and was going to be leaving within 10 mins anyway. The next day I returned and the office had turned off my access to the unit and told me I had 24 hours to move all my things out of my unit. I had already prepaid for 2 months of rent here as well and they refused to reimburse me. The People that work at this location are rude and do not care about their customers. read more

There are homeless people who live in these units that the management 100% knows about because they have access codes to the gates and the doors. They loiter around the office area as well as their units. However when I decided to store some workout equipment here and use this space, I was told that I was loitering. Then when I asked to see in the lease where it said I couldn't be IN my storage unit, they told me I needed to leave in 48 hours. Then I asked to speak to a manager, she said "if you talk to the manager, you will have 24 hours to be out by". She didn't have a real reason as to why i couldnt "workout" in the unit and it stated nowhere in the lease. How they went about it was super unprofessional and disrespectful. I've never had anyone come up to me and yell at me then kick me out of a place I'm paying for WITHOUT real reason. At least talk to me with respect. read more
