I have just started visiting this spot for lunch and breakfast. All 3 visits were fantastic! Food…read moreis excellent and so far have tried the egg sandwiches, burgers and cheese steak. Its a cute and comfy atmosphere with a home town charm and super friendly staff. I love their soda and brought home all the flavors! I will be ordering from here often since I am new to the neighborhood!

Fresh homemade meats, soups, desserts, you name it...it's all done the right way here. First time here I had the pulled lamb sandwich. I had never heard of this before and I asked the owner what he suggested and after he said "everything", he said if I liked lamb then this was it. He couldn't be more correct. The lamb was tender and juicy, the roll was a nice sturdy Kaiser, and the pickled cabbage added a nice little acidity and juiciness to this sandwich as well. Next time in I ordered the "Phat Boy" and the Roast Beef sandwich. Both were incredible. The phat boy had fried eggs, cheese, pork roll (or Taylor Ham depending who you ask), bacon, and sausage on that same Kaiser roll. Everything was amazing, but the flavor of the sausage really shined through on this and created an experience I want over and over again. You could truly taste the freshness of the meat and delicious fennel flavor. This roast beef sandwich rivals (if not beats) the amazing roast beef sandwiches of my youth in Brooklyn from places like Brennan and Carr as well as Roll N' Roaster. The meat is incredibly tender, I was barely even chewing and it was just melting away in my mouth. The au jus added some nice flavor and moisture, and the horseradish mayo was (as it always is) a wonderful touch on a quality roast beef sandwich. The last time in (again on his suggestion) I went with the lamb burger. Another homerun. The meat was tender and cooked medium rare. The bun again was that same crusty Kaiser roll which I personally love for burgers. Just the addition of lettuce, tomato, and his Rooster sauce so to not overpower the flavor of the meat. This was seriously fantastic and somehow honestly probably the lowest on my list of items I loved here...that's how good everything else has been. Run, don't walk to get here. First…read moretime was to try the cheesesteak and then I came again to try a mammoth breakfast sandwich (the belly buster). Both of these trips were a little while back and I'm honestly due to stop in again and try something else out. I stopped in for the cheesesteak December of 2021 and I went back for the breakfast sandwich December of 2022. The cheesesteak had the cheese mixed throughout and it was on a pretty solid roll. There was less meat than I had hoped (trails off towards the end of the roll on both sides) and it honestly could have used more cheese too, but it was definitely something that would scratch an itch. At the time the price was excellent (like $8.50 or something in that range) but I am not sure if it's still around that price or not. This isn't something I would go out of my way to get again, but it wasn't something I was upset about at all. The breakfast sandwich was a beast. Pork roll (or whatever you call it), bacon, eggs, cheese, hash brown on a Kaiser. The flavor was good all separate and once I was able to actually get my mouth around it and get everything in one bite, it was solid. It isn't something I would suggest eating often, and I'm sure your cardiologist would agree. Either way, pretty tasty stuff. Going to have to check back in soon for sure, but for an economy steak I was happy and for a once a year breakfast or so, it did the trick.

It would be hard pressed to find a classic like this in the Bay Area, and if something like this does still exist, it's at risk of withering away at any moment. Fortunately, that's not the case here, where nostalgia lives on. I come here for their macaroni salad, but I know locals who prefer their potato salad and ham salad instead. FYI, for California folks not familiar with ham salad, it's similar to a tuna or egg salad, except made with ham. Thus far, I've had the macaroni salad for the 2 out of 2 days I've been here so far. I may give their potato salad a try tomorrow. Personally, I'd have their macaroni salad everyday, if I lived here. You'll also find plenty of Pennsylvania and East Coast classical food items that you won't find in California, like their homemade shoo-fly pies and kiffles, A-Coast sodas, Good's Chips and Tasty Cakes. In addition, there's also local memorabilia along the walls of this tiny store. When I see all of these things, I know I'm not in the Bay Area anymore! Ressler's is super popular for their sandwiches, particularly their Italian subs. During lunch, this is a busy place as people come in for their grab and go sandwiches. And doesn't macaroni salad make a great accompaniment to an Italian hoagie? I certainly think so!!
