My girlfriend and I made our first visit to Prime Wok, today, for a late lunch. We were greeted and informed of their specials, and that menu items were cooked fresh, to order. We both chose a Grande special (odd name for something in a Chinese eatery, but whatever). It's a large serving of a main entree order, and a side of fried rice or chow-mein. My girlfriend ordered General Tsao's Chicken, and fried rice, with a side of spring rolls and prawns. I ordered Broccoli Beef (which they happily customized into a spicy version, for me), and chow-mein. Our food arrived quickly, and steaming hot. we were quite pleased that our orders looked, smelled, and tasted great. After this first-time visit to Prime Wok, I'm sure we'll both be back in the future. Beverages: Pepsi products only. :/ (No Coke products, or Dr Pepper) Clean: Yes. Sriracha sauce: YES! I've been working in Roseville/Rocklin area temporarily for the past 3 months and decided to get some food when I felt lazy to pack lunch. I was craving for some hot chinese food to go type of restaurants and I hit the jackpot on my first try. After looking at photos of this place I decided to come here on my lunch break. I've come here multiple times now to leave an honest review. I've gotten the orange chicken, mongolian beef, szechuan chicken, and spicy beef all with chow mein. Their proportions are HUGE. You definitely get ALOT for $8 and that is a STEAL!!! I always end up taking half of my order home and eat it for dinner. The place is very open and has alot of seating. I have been here more than a dozen times in the last five years. The quality has been consistent every time. It's not the best but it is way better than the average places. Menu hasn't changed in all that time. Portion size is crazy. Bring a really hungry friend and order one plate. You'll still have too much food. It really is amazing huge portions. The plain white rice is better than the standard fried rice. Had chicken fried rice once. Really good but here the portion size works against them. Do you really want 2 pounds of rice? I only had noodles once (several years ago) and did not like it. Onions were perfect today--cooked and still a little crunchy. Sauce is a little heavy but not bad. Will I go again? For lunch? I've been remiss when it comes to rating Prime Wok Express. I tried it the first time several months ago, and I've returned on a number of occasions since. I probably didn't write my review because of what other Yelpers have said. The ratings are great, and that's appropriate! The food is good and the portions are huge (as commented on by most reviewers). As far as authenticity goes... a lot of folks have said it's authentic Chinese food. Actually, I would describe it as American Chinese food. The fare is as you would find in most Chinese restaurants in the area. Entrees such as orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, beef with broccoli, and Kung Pao shrimp are on the menu. These are the items most of us grew up with, so they're quite comfortable; but I don't think I'd describe them as authentic Chinese. Prime Wok does a great job and I will certainly return! If your looking for HUGE portions of yummy Chinese food @ a low price then you should go to Prime Wok. I love their chow mein! Thinner noodles then the usual chow mein found in most restaurants & seasoned perfectly! They also give you the choice between white & dark meat w/ their chicken dishes (dark meat only please). This time I ordered the chow mein and chicken w/ green beans... Very good! With the huge portions they serve you can easily eat it for a few meals lol or share it amongst two people! The restaurant can get pretty warm outside, but they offer outside seating so I can't really complain :) for me & my husband we paid $18 for our lunch (which will most likely be dinner too). read more

This is my go to spot for "on the go" Chinese food in the Roseville/Rocklin area. I won't touch Panda Express as I don't like my food to be made in advance and then sit baking under heat lamps. If I wanted that I'd go to one of the multiple different buffet places. The portion sizes here are HUGE! So either bring a major appetite or be prepared to split your order with somebody. Pricing is also very good considering the quality of ingredients and the portion sizes. $28 dollars will buy enough food to feed my wife and I dinner as well as lunch for the next day! All orders are made fresh for you and these guys knock it out quick. They use fresh vegetables and will tailor the amount of spice in your dish to your taste if you ask. The owner and the older gentleman who works as the line cook are both super friendly. You only need to go in 2 or 3 times before they know you and remember what you like to order. For me I walk in and they ask me if I want option 1 or option 2 as I pretty much always order the same 2 dishes. Someone taking the time to remember you and what you like to eat makes you feel like more than just cash going in their register. That goes a long way with me. Outstanding chinese cuisine.......worthy of five stars! I found this little hole-in-the-wall while shopping at RC Willey (Furniture/Electronics store in Rocklin). Its also directly behind Lucille's BBQ restaurant. They make nearly all the food to order (fried rice is not)---they use Lots of fresh ingredients in their dishes, and (thankfully) there were no water chestnuts in anything I ordered (NOTE: water chestnuts in chinese food is a pet peeve of mine, because its a sign that the restaurant opens cans instead of using fresh ingredients). At Prime Wok Express, the fresh vegetables are in plain sight, thru a glass door in their walk-in refrigerator. I saw heaps of red bell peppers, fresh eggplants, bok choy, and other pretty veggies.....calling out to me! The place reminds me of "Panda Express," because they have one of those colorful menu boards, and they have the sneeze guarded stainless steel buffet line.....except that the cafeteria style food warmers are all empty. (They don't have enough business yet, so they aren't cooking anything ahead of time). The menu is not very extensive but they had enough variety to satisfy most tastes: They have some very spicy dishes and they have mild ones too. I ordered a 2-item combo ($5.50) which comes with two main dishes and one side dish (choice of fried rice, white rice, or mixed vegetables). My choices were Pepper Chicken (spicy), Tofu & Eggplant (mild), and the Mixed Vegetables. My order came in a styrofoam box (like Bel-Air), and was competely stuffed full of food. I'm estimating the net weight at 2 lbs. Now anyone who knows me----being a big eater----you'll be surprised to hear that I could not finish my lunch. Fortunately it was freezing cold outside, so the remaining food went into the car trunk, while I finished my shopping (Winco & Costco nearby). Took the leftovers home to the wife, who consumed them for lunch next day (along with some white rice we had in the fridge). The ultimate test of an asian restaurant is when your MSG-sensitive spouse can consume the establishment's food without getting a tummy ache or a headache.....Prime Wok Express passed with flying colors....... Why only 4 stars? I said its 5-star chinese cuisine.....but those darn styrofoam boxes are a real turn-off, as are the fortune cookies in little plastic bags. Whether it is "authentic" or whatever I don't know, but the stuff is good. - Even though the chow mien is good, the sauteed veggies are TREMENDOLICIOUS! If you like veggies with your meal, this is where its at. I should have put this point first because it is the sauteed veggies that won my heart the first time I ate there. Fresh. Cooked but not too cooked. I don't know the right word for vegetables, but if it was pasta it would be al dente. And the sauce it is cooked with complements the vegetables without overpowering. - They have dishes like the Spicy Basil Chicken that have a daring flavor. Delicious, but not ordinary. - They cook the food to order. It's about the same price as Panda, but it's better and there are no warmers. - Check out the burners under the woks. I'm not sure how much longer this place is gonna stay afloat, I went there one day around 2PM and the chef and owner were sitting in the dining area with very few lights on and all the lights in the kitchen as well as menu board were off. As soon as I walked in, they scrambled to the back to turn everything back on and fire up the wok and hood. They have typical "fast food-y" Chinese food....This place MAY be one step up from Panda Express since they do cook the food to order, however, for the money, go across the street to the Fitness 19 shopping center and try China Villa, it's far better in taste, quality and for about the same price. read more

I"m driving down Hwy. 65 to a 1:30 appointment & it's barely 12:30 but I'm starving. Thank goodness that during the building boom of the last few years there is a never ending supply of retail, shopping, fast & restaurant food just a few feet off the freeway. Literally driving down the frontage road I'm looking for something not on a bun or wrapped up in a tortilla & just see a simple hand written sign for "Chinese Lunch Special." Sold. Had the two item lunch special (huge portions, mistake #1) Orange Chicken (extra spicy, mistake #2) Broccoli Beef & chow mien. I should know by now to NEVER ask for anything extra spicy at ANY restaurant. While very, very tasty they added some fresh thai chili's & some extra schirracha sauce. Pass the Tums please. The broccoli beef was cooked to order as well & was tender, loaded with broccoli was more than enough on it's own. Even the chow mien was damn good! Thin noodles cooked up just a little crispy & with just enough veggies to make it too enough of a meal. So after an hour & a half meeting & with a burning feeling growing in my stomach I get back to my car which now smells like a chinese restaurant (had to bag the leftovers) I down 2-3 Tums EX & make my way to my next appointment with a easing tummy & satisfied lunch experience. read more

This place is so awesome. We took advantage of the special they had - one entree and rice or chow mein for $6.99. They make everything fresh and to order - you can even pick if you want white or dark meat for your orange chicken etc. which I've never seen before. The boy working the front counter was a young guy and very friendly and helpful. We didn't wait very long before they brought out the food. There was so much food! They serve it in the styrofoam to-go containers. I'm not kidding, they are stuffed full. Before ordering, my boyfriend and I were both starving. He is a big guy and can put a lot away so I wasn't surprised when he said he didn't want to split an order. He got about two-thirds through and gave up. Actually had leftovers. Let me assure you- this never happens. The quantity and price are amazing but the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff are what really makes this place great. When we left, I smiled at one of the staff members and said thank you. He had a big genuine smile, thanked us very much for coming. General chicken- 4 stars Kung poa chicken-3.1 stars, it had a nice spicy kick to it but the flavor was a little different than I'm used to. Seasame chicken- 2.9 stars, first time I've had seasame chicken that was less sweet than the general chicken. Fried rice- 3 stars (no meat) Chow mein- 2.9 stars, and is the dark kind with skinny noodles and was a little dry.(no meat) Now if I lived in the area I would probably frequent this place because of the large portions and price, but I can get better right here in beautiful Citrus Heights. Panda Express if they actually cooked things when you ordered instead of using a steam table. Which gets me wondering... why did they install a huge steam table if their value proposition was that everything was fresh wokked? My guess is that they changed their mind halfway through construction. Horrible location and placement. Almost impossible to see from the street. Their lunch combo is a good deal but the menu that you can order from is VERY limited. Also, their soups are uninspired. I have a love for fast American Chinese food; even better when the place cooks the dish in front of me. I ate the broccoli and beef and chicken and mushrooms with fried rice; it was flavorful and oh so good. My friend ordered the generals chicken and fried rice; the pieces of chicken I stole from his plate was so good. The generals chicken did not have an overpowering orange flavor which was nice. The amount of food you get is HUGE; I barely made a dent in my plate which made for a dinner the next night. My only con is the location. Got the hot basil tofu with chow mein. I was expecting a bunch of soggy tofu with some basil & some sort of spicy sauce. Instead, I received firm, well seasoned tofu and so many veggies! I liked that the veggies were fresh and still had a bit of crunch. The sauce was a little spicy but not so bad that you can't enjoy it. The chow mein was also really good and it wasn't greasy. The only thing is I got a really weird vibe from the guy taking the order/running the register. He seemed like he was maybe the owner's son & looked like he did not wanna be there. Anyone who gives this place 3 stars or less doesn't know their ass from their elbow. The owner is present every day, he does his best, and nothing less. We are always greeted at the door with upmost respect. To some people, that means a lot. For everyone else- this place whoops on panda express and most other Chinese restaurants. This stuff is made fresh, and exactly the way you want it. I drive from Placerville to go here, because they pack the to-go containers as much as possible, and the place is kept super clean. My Japanese wife and I have been going here for years, and we always get great service and great food. Good to see far more great reviews than "star deductions". Maybe these people should try some other places before they compare. read more
