This place ranks a solid 4 stars in my book. The food is good, but I do think the pictures on the menu tend to hype up flavors that are slightly lacking. I tried four different tacos and a mini Mexican pizza. The filet mignon taco had great flavor, with extremely tender, soft meat. The taco de arrachera followed suit and didn't disappoint. Although these tacos were well seasoned, they still required toppings to elevate the flavor--chili, onions, cilantro, lime, etc. The pulpo taco was my favorite item I ordered. The octopus was super soft and chewy--exactly what you would expect texture-wise. Adding toppings like pickled onions and salsa made this taco especially enjoyable. When ordering the tripa taco, the cashier specifically asked if I wanted the meat crispy or non-crispy. I chose non-crispy. However, when I tried the taco, the meat was hard. Much of it was overcooked, and I felt like I was chewing on a piece of charcoal. I don't know if my order was prepared incorrectly or if this is what they consider non-crispy. If that's the case, I'd hate to taste the crispy version. I can't fathom the meat being any more burnt than it already was. Again, toppings were a must on this taco--they helped dilute the overwhelming charred flavor. Lastly, the Mexican pizza. I ordered mine with arrachera. The presentation looked amazing, but the flavor was simply good. It comes loaded with toppings--sour cream, guacamole, onions, cilantro, and more. Perhaps the abundance of toppings overwhelmed the palate. I'm not entirely sure. Would I come back? Definitely. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I first came by Primecut Taqueria because I had heard that it was similar to Tacos Los Cholos. There is apparently some drama involved between the two but that's really none of my business. After a few visits, I can say that I like Primecut about as much as I like Los Cholos. FOOD The quality is good. I've tried the Asada, arrachera, and shrimp. I've tried their taco, quesadilla, burrito, and potato. Everything was good SERVICE Over several visits, all of the different staff members were professional and nice. DINING ROOM There is a good mix of dining table sizes and I like how the condiment bar can be accessed from both sides. Just walking in to this place was a great experience, the line to order is divided by a half wall away from the tables. The art and interior design is trendy with still keeping the Mexican home feel, the menu and kitchen all looked clean along with the dining area. I went for lunch on my first visit, enjoyed what I ordered, and can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. I went for the premium meats like Arrachera (outside skirt steak) and Costilla (chopped beef ribs). Both meats were flavorful, cooked well, and piled generously on the tortillas. I ordered the rice-and-beans side, and both were delicious, especially when adding more ingredients from the salsa bar. I ordered one asada, one adobada, and one rib eye taco, oh and a Diet Coke! I sidled up to the salsa bar and was excited to try the salsas! I went for the spicy end of the range. There is a medium heat green Serrano salsa and a spicy orange habanero salsa! I loaded up on those and also got some spicy pickled onions, cucumber, radish, cilantro, and raw onion. The tacos arrived naked! Nothing but meat and what appears to be home made corn tortillas! I loaded them up and they were incredible! Loads of meat, loads of flavor, and loads of HEAT!! The adobada was very tasty and had a bit of a char on it. The asada and the ribeye were amazing. I don't know if it's worth getting the ribeye tacos for the premium price. Even though the meat was cut into larger chunks and it was really good, I think the classic asada would have been good enough. Their chicken is always so delicious as they are in larger chunks, and their asada (beef) is amazing in tacos and their burritos!! I'd been meaning to check out this place weeks ago after being recommended it by someone who had family working here. And it's pretty good. The adobada burrito had the hallmark of using super fresh meat butchered in-house I believe and being super tender. The rest of the burrito was very tasty as well. It only needed a little coaxing with some onions, cilantro, and green salsa as it was a bit bland at the outset. I definitely would have this burrito again in the same manner. I'm also insanely curious about the loaded papas entree as I only recently introduced to this a few months ago at another food joint. Over there they called it papa loka, but I suspect the upgrade in meat here would make it more adventurous. And, of course, I would want to try the nachos because who doesn't like nachos? The staff was friendly if a bit curt. That's what happens when you have a bit of a line. And while I hate feeling rushed during the ordering process, I understood. The space is a bit small and I'm not sure would be conducive to a good chill spot with friends and family, or a good place to read a few chapters of a book after dinner. It felt more pressured, like they would want you to vacate after taking your last bite, but that may have been more the tight confines and not wanting to take up real estate with other patrons waiting. At any rate it did put me in a mild state of unease eating here. All in all, not my ideal spot for a regular food joint, but the food is excellent and I did enjoy it. For a place in this condition, the pricing is outrageous. The food was average at best and definitely not worth what they're charging. The bar area was also dirty and disorganized, which only added to the poor experience. They don't accommodate even minor menu modifications, and the fact that they don't serve basic lettuce--only spring mix--was just another odd and frustrating detail. I would not recommend this business, they need some adjustments. For an overpriced $30 we got a small chicken quesodilla and chorizo nachos. I was so surprised when I didnt see pastor meat on the menu, its my favorite and the girlfriend asked what is the adobada meat and the front cashier said 'oh its just like carne asada'. Deff need training on that end, because it is in fact pastor. We also ordered our meal to go and after waiting 25 minutes (it wasn't even busy, and they have 5 people in the back) they gave us our order inside the restaurant and not to go, adding even more time on the wait. The order taker was friendly and helpful to answer questions from this first timer. The kitchen area is visible from the counter and the cooks kept an amicable, rhythmic pace. The dining area has, in my opinion, too many tables to the point where it feels too crowded. Someone in a wheelchair would definitely have a hard time rolling between the tables. Some reconfiguration or downsizing should be considered. They do have a half dozen or so tables and chairs set up right in front of the store for dining al fresco. Their loaded papas caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try with the costilla meat. I also added on the Anaheim chile with cheese. My friend chose the surf and turf taco. We also got 3 different mild salsas from the salsa bar to try. The papa itself was ginormous! I was told it had butter and cheese in addition to the meat, so it sounded good. I also added the Anaheim chile on the side, but I guess it's normally served as a topping, because that's how it was brought to me. For the size of the potato, it needed more butter. The cheese was toasted/melted to drape over the sides. This also needed more than what was served. The cheese-stuffed Anaheim chile reminded me of a naked chile relleno ~ I actually really enjoyed it. The meat was just okay. If I didn't know it was supposed to be chopped beef ribs, I would've thought it was ground beef. Maybe because of how it's seasoned?? If I were to order this again, I would definitely ask for more butter and sour cream would also be nice. My friend really enjoyed her surf and turf taco.
