Locals, have eaten here 3 times before writing a review. Service is terrible by waiter. Servers, bus staff and bartender, amazing! Everything is seriously overpriced. Portions are fine but honestly, having the waiter questioning the quantity of food ordered, not appropriate. The scallops were indescribably small, I'm not sure how you could call them scallops. I think they needed to be thrown back and allowed to grow! All of the "ink" could be left out. It's not appetizing. Bread, go back to real bread or leave off whatever that dressing is and provide a nice olive oil. Sorry to be so harsh but other than the company and the view, seriously disappointing. read more

Went to Mother's Day dinner yesterday and honestly was extremely disappointed. I know Mother's Day is a little hectic and different but there is no reason why we sit down at 8 and don't receive our entrees until 9:56PM and the wait wasn't even really worth it. Meatballs were hard. Buratta pasta was very over cooked. Squid ink pasta was a runny, gooey mess, lobster didn't taste fresh, and the cider was very watery and had almost no flavor, all for decently expensive price. Was so upset I just stopped taking pictures. The waitress came over only maybe two or three times. The only thing redeemable about the entire experience was the atmosphere. Very fun, trendy, Santorini vibes. I could see this being a nice club/get together spot. Especially by the water. I am going to revisit and re try on a day that isn't a holiday and see if it was just an off night or if that's the normal expectancy. Willing to give them another chance because I think everyone deserves one and I normally don't like giving low rated reviews but it was just so crazy I couldn't let it slide. If when I go back, it's a better experience, I will happily adjust my review, show a bunch more pictures, and post an apology. read more

I dined at Primo last night with my family on Father's Day. The restaurant does have a great vibe and the decor is beautiful. You also cannot beat the location. However, we were unaware there was an $89 prixe fixe as the only available option for the night. When I made the reservation it wasn't stated, it wasn't mentioned by the hostess, and only until we were seated and ordered drinks were we told. That seemed a little shadey. The food was actually pretty decent, but we had to wait an hour and 45 minutes until we got our entree. The service was lacking as a whole. We had the same experience at Heritage in Fishkill...just ridiculously slow service. If they could improve the speed they get food out and improve on service, this would be an excellent place to eat. read more

Eye candy, for sure. The indoor & outdoor seating are equally coveted with dazzling views of the Hudson River. The drinks are good. The food is a hit or miss, unfortunately. The dressed oysters on the half shell are a winner. The crudo appetizers are all terrific. I find the appetizers a stronger draw than their entrees. The entrees are served on a smallish plate & the contents are piled on like a cafeteria serving. I would appreciate a bit more refinement in presentation for the prices they charge. read more

Mother's Day was an extremely busy day. It was clear that the cooks and wait staff were doing their best. Waitress Justice came by several times to check up on us. Drinks and food were fresh, well made, and served hot. We were part of a very large party, about 100, and we had wonderful service. The ambiance was perfect. It was my first visit, but my family that lives locally eats there often. Was delicious food with very pleasant staff and beautiful atmosphere. There were a lot of us, and the staff remained patient and attentive. I was very impressed with that. We live in Virginia and would gladly come all the way back for a meal here. read more

The service was excellent. From when you enter the restaurant, to the table service, you're greeted with a warm welcome and everyone is knowledgeable of the menu. The atmosphere is really nice and I can't wait to come back when it gets warmer out to see the views of the Hudson with their lovely outdoor patio. Three stars for the view. 2 stars for the waitstaff. I think our initial waiter quit after he took our drink order so he never returned. 30 minutes later our new waiter arrived with our drinks. The rest of the evening we had 4 or 5 different people help with our meal. 1 star for the food. Was there really crab in the butter that came with the bread? Or did it just taste that way. Silly me for trying it, as I'm allergic. Took a Benadryl and plowed on. My shrimp with pasta dish was so tiny, and overcooked and salty. Not tasty. The blueberry dessert I ordered was tiny and also not tasty. 1 star for the prices. I won't be going back. I was really excited to finally get to Primo. I looooove Heritage. Just stopped by this place for the first time for drinks and it was so cute! Did not feel like I was in Newburgh at all, but in California instead. Ordered 2 of the 36 chambers because the drink was that good. We also got the crispy potatoes which were delish! The chef was so sweet and gave us a sample of one of their main menu items. Another date night selection. I wish I had tried this place during the summer, I'm sure it would've been beautiful. The indoor seating is cozy. We were first introduced with a rice ball with truffle oil, it was actually pretty taste and I don't usually like rice balls. I have a lamb pasta and my husband the sweet sausage gnocchi. The pasta was tasty however the lamb was hard. Felt like I was eating a dried cured piece of meat. I prefer the gnocchi. My husband choose the apple spice cake. The cake would've tasted SO much better if it was warmed with some vanilla ice cream. The orders took forever and waiting for the waiter to request something was like pulling teeth. 2) the food was mediocre. The cioppino had 2 shrimps, 1 crab leg, a bunch of muscles and that's it. This stew's broth is usually tomato/wine based, not creamy. $60 3) the squid ink pasta entree was so small that I gave the bread that came with the cioppino to my husband to complete his meal. $40 All overpriced. My lady and I had a reservation for Primo this past Saturday for 7:30 pm. It has a great location and great river views. It's sandwiched somewhere between Blupointe and Billy Joe's on Front Street. We had a patio reservation and although the weather was iffy we sat outside. Really nice outdoor bar set up. Great views of the Hudson. For apps we had some fresh oysters and clams plus a jumbo shrimp cocktail and a beef carpaccio. Everything was delicious. For entrees we went with a lobster sphagetti and baked salmon. Both were tasty but nothing to blow you away. The menu is solid and I could see going back 4 or 5 different times and getting a new plate every time. We stuck around for dessert and things got a little drawn out. Can't complain too much because you're enjoying a beautiful view and a nice breeze. Ended up with the affogato and hazelnut ice cream sandwich. Good desserts but again nothing to blow you away especially for the prices. Be ready to spend a couple bucks but it's worth it for the food and the scenery. read more

Had a really great experience! Starting at the beginning, the bread is a focaccia from a local business (I believe they said Newburgh Flour Shop) - it was amazing and the butter served with it was also great. I got a mocktail and found it very good. For apps, we had the mussels, lobster pan tomato, and the yellow fish crudo. I found all delicious. For mains, we had the crab squid ink pasta, the brick chicken, and the salmon - all were also slam dunks. While I didn't find anything to be overly salty, I could see why others would think so but think it's a very minor tweak for a clearly very capable kitchen! We were celebrating our anniversary and we were so happy we made the choice to do it at Primo. Very nice outdoor dining with delicious food. Also pricey. We very much enjoyed the view of the Hudson River and the food was excellent! Service was good. One lack is they don't carry any draft beer. Not sure why, but they have a decent selection of craft brew cans along with a full bar. Our only issue was that it more pricey than we expected. Our mea for 2 was nearly $145. So it's not crazy expensive and the food was very good, but it was a bit much. The Hudson view along with a view of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge is worth going there is you like a water view. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I ordered several sides and tapas. Everything I got was fantastic! The thing I almost didn't order ended up being my favorite of the night! The squid ink asparagus was lovely and was just salty and light in the most perfect way. I loved it. I was intrigued by the combo of flavors and very pleasantly surprised! Got the bluefin as a main course ... six small strips ... was more of a starter. Had to order a $35 lobster roll that was very basic. The egg combination the wife got wasn't good, the staff to their credit was attentive and the manager replaced it with eggs Benedict. Came on a Sunday at 1 and there was a lot of seats open. We can see why. They could get away with high prices and a view if there wasn't competition, but the reality is there are several options along this strip with better portion size and more reasonable prices. read more

Had a reservation at 7pm for this restaurant. We didn't leave until 10:45pm. Our food took over 2 hours and the wait staff was incredibly inattentive. My ravioli dish was cold when I finally received it, and when my server asked how everything was (20 minutes after receiving entrees) I informed him of the dish being cold. Visited a friend in the area last weekend and a small group of us came here for dinner. The restaurant is pretty. But the prices are very high and the service and the food are not at the level of the design/prices. We asked our server about some of the dishes, and her response was "it's actually ok", why so surprised? at that price, I would expect more than OK. Then in truth, it wasn't even OK. My friend's octopus was stringy and mushy. The salad looked pretty but had 3 leaves of greens (despite arugula being listed first) and was tasteless. My other friend ordered medium rare steak and it came out well done. She sent it back and it came back rare and she barely ate two bites. The tomato pasta tasted good. We asked 3 times for a glass of ice and 2 times to have the wine menu back. Had to call a manager over to get the ice and menu. Hope they can get it together but I won't be back. read more

Came here late September for a birthday brunch and forgot to review. To start, This place is beautiful. Everything we ate and drank was absolutely delicious. Cocktails were fantastic as was all the food. We got the shrimp toast and the bacon egg and cheese arancini to start. Both were absolutely delicious. Portions were great. We then got the ricotta pancakes and the Lobster Newburgh Benedict. The pancakes were delicious but the Benedict was one of the best I've had. This is my first time to Primo Waterfront. The location and decor is beautiful and overall the taste of the food was good but the portions were smaller than expected. The meals were very expensive. The service was not good at all. It took a very long time to get served. They did not pay attention to who ordered what and there was no indication on which salmon was well done vs not and how the meat was requested, etc. Overall the view and setting is beautiful but I don't feel it's worth the cost. read more

I expected a lavish meal considering the prices but was met with under flavored over-salted food that I could not finish. The creamed spinach (a recommendation by the waitress) was by far the worst. I couldn't finish the first bite. I expressed to the waitress that the recommendation was quite salty but she stated she liked the salty taste. Server didn't offer a chilled glass to go with my beer. Didn't ask how I wanted my salmon cooked either. A food server was kind enough to ask if we were okay with our meal. Beautiful Restaurant! My friends & I visited this restaurant by accident but I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the restaurant was. We didn't have a reservation but they accommodated us in the bar/lounge area which was nice. We all ordered different things on the menu (mostly appetizers) to try them out. My drink was absolutely amazing the rum was smooth which allowed for an easy drink. My Mussels were delicious and very well seasoned I even dipped my bread into the sauce. The Broccoli Rabe I could have lived without. My friend ordered Shishito Pepper which were on the soggy side and quite spicy (they comped it) The potatoes were great we loved those & the baked clams were delicious. We also tried the grilled octopus which was delicious and cooked very tender. I will say if you are looking for a nice view and nice staff come here to enjoy a few drinks and appetizers. Considering I guess I should of listened to other reviews about the food. Let me say the server and staff did a decent job, a little slow and forgot some apps and drinks but it was probably a long day so I will let that slide. Now for the food, what a disappointment. I think a fast food place can make a better meal. Food was over salted, undercooked and not edible for some in our party. I honestly can't remember the last time I sent a plate back, if it's even somewhat edible then I will eat it. well we sent our plates back. Our meals were undercooked and considering how expensive this place is I was expecting almost maybe something edible. I put it to you like this, only one person in our party finished meal. The server did everything to try to make our experience better but I did not want to get a replacement meal and was over it and just wanted to leave. I would not recommend this inedible overpriced place to anyone. Sorry for the bad review but I could deal with bad service and good food but instead I got ok service with bad food. I told someone when we left, this was a waste of money and they said yea it was. I'm only giving two stars because of server trying to do right thing. read more
