    Lunch special #3

Great food and large portions for the lunch specials. Cute interior and a full bar. Service was okay - not as attentive as they could be - one of two wait staff was hanging out with a friend- should have been working...

Carne asada tacos, and beef burrito
    Jay B.

Visited this Restaurant after a very busy weekend of over 5k miles traveled by air and land. We don't have very good Mexican food back home in Hawaii, so this was going to be my final meal before flying home early the next morning . When I pulled into the neighborhood I figured it would be a sleepy place like the surrounding area, but was surprised when I got to the restaurant and the lot was quite busy. I decided to order my food and head back to the hotel rather than dine in, but was quickly greeted by the pleasant staff, and my order was taken soon after I indicated I was ready. I had the carne asada tacos, and ordered the first burrito (beef) I've eaten in over 20 years. Man this stuff is GOOD!! The portions were very generous, the burrito was huge and tasty , and the salsa.. perfect! Primos easily slid into my top 5 Mexican restaurants ever, and though I am not in council bluffs often, if my travels ever bring me back here it will be my first stop, not my last!

We've always loved Primo's having only eaten in. Tonight we got carryout, and the portions seemed much smaller than when dining in. Then, as I was eating my taco salad, when I realized there was no meat. I checked the receipt to confirm I had ordered it, yep it was on the receipt Looks like it will be dine-in only for us from now on.

Stopped in at Primos for Breakfast during my travels and tried the breakfast tacos... WOW!!! Super delicious and highly recommend. Service was great and super efficient. Restaurant is nice and clean inside.

Some of the best Mexican food in CB (and the Omaha metro in general). I found the quality dipped when they opened their midtown Omaha location but it seems to be back now. Salsa, queso, and guac are all good. Portions are more than generous and the price point is reasonable. They have a fun looking collection of margaritas, and my SIL enjoys them. Service is usually good. Place is nice and clean. It's a bit of a small location but we've never had to wait. I love the big windows to see outside as well.

Waitress should be fired! Waitress took food drink order. No further Interaction, no drink refills or dessert offers no checking how food was. No interaction until she saw we had our payments on the table. The waitress name on receipt was Mary R. She came said I guess you want your bill . We said yes please. my 89 year old mom paid cash . Myself debit. Waitress says rudely says I'll guess you want your change. Mom says yes please. So we get up walk out and Mary R FOLLOWS us to our car in the parking lot. wanting to know how her service was we said ok to deescalate the situation then Demanded to know WHY we DIDNT give her a tip! She was rude and agressive and demanding. I was agasp. I called the manager when I got home because the more I thought about it the more mad I got. The manager was non empathetic just stated I'm sorry you had that experience I will address it . As I explained we felt harassed there was a chuckle in his voice. He was monotone and not sincere. Tipping is at the discretion of the patron and this woman did not provide only the bare minimum service with a rude attitude. I tip accordingly to service and attitude of wait staff. I will NOT be referring anyone to Primos !!

I met my friends here for dinner a couple weeks ago and the whole experience was really surprising,…read moretbh, but in a good way. One of my friends has been here with his co-workers a few times but I haven't been here before. (Maybe one time many many years ago that I don't remember....) We walk in on a Monday night and there were a few people there. It's a small place so I'm glad we were able to get a table. When we sat down, the bartender, (waitress as well), came right over and took our drink orders and eventually our food orders. I wanted to try their renowned broasted chicken. (A device essentially uses pressure cooking and light frying to create a thin crispy skin and juicy interior). The chicken was some of the best 'fried' chicken that I've ever had, seriously. Super crispy skin and juice inside. Reminds me a little of Korean fried chicken. The texas toast was yummy, the cole slaw was creamy (if you like creamy slaw), and the crispy tots were crispy delicious. My friend got a broasted chicken sammich and he loved it too. (High praise coming from him.) My friends and I have been wanting to go back and get more broasted chicken since we left. On Fridays, they have a 4 piece special for $13.99 that I'll have to take advantage of soon. All in all, this little bar/restaurant has some amazing food that I just didn't expect after driving and running past it for years. Can't wait to go back.

I'm in Omaha for a few days, I had my ribeye steak, Reuben, fresh corn, Culver's, and plan a Runza…read morerun for the next day, what's the next move? I had a free afternoon and for some reason when I check yelp, a couple spots in Council Bluffs, IA show up. I check around and they look fine, elevated bar/comfort food that could be from Anywhere, USA. Pork tenderloin seems to be the move with something fried on the side. LPL's really stuck out for a few reason - massive tenderloin sandwich and a super Midwest feel from the pics. Coming from Omaha, LPL's is about 15 minutes from downtown, but everything is 15-30 minutes it seems no matter where you go so might as well check out a new state. This restaurant is as middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere as it gets. Nondescript building with just a few windows on the side of what seems like a main road for the area. I'm fairly certain there has not ever been an Asian and/or Hispanic person set foot in here, but hey, I was looking for a hearty and authentic meal and that's what I got. Felt like Joe and Marisa showing up in Alabama. I walked in and could feel the eyes on me immediately and went straight to an open bar stool. The place was pretty packed for a random Monday at 1pm. Everyone seems like regular locals. Server/bartender came up and handed me a menu and I ordered a Yuengling. I already knew what I wanted - pork tenderloin deluxe with some cheese curds. Very reasonable and necessary up charges for both. Now, when people exaggerate and say, "so and so was bigger than my face" I brush it aside, BUT this pork tenderloin was much bigger than my face and is comically large. They actually gave me a to go box to cut some of it up and set aside for maneuverability. I won't say it was seasoned well but the bonus points for size outweighs all. I cut and stacked with mayo and veggies to eat and it was very delicious. Crunchy and juicy with fresh veggies and needed richness from mayo. I was on my 3rd day of curds and ranch, no complaints there other than from my doctor I'm sure. I suppose I can recommend this place... it was just an odd experience of being so out of place for me but the staff was friendly and food was good making this a good place to check out. I would say it's one-of-a-kind spot but I have no idea what the rest of the Midwest is like. It's really in the middle of nowhere and getting an uber back to Omaha took a whopping 17 minutes. I, of course, appreciate anyone that reads my long reviews of random restaurants. I have no idea who is reading this review in NE or IA. $25 for a massive sandwich and 2 beers is the deal if the century. Way off the beaten path but may be worth a visit if you are visiting Omaha and what a different experience.

The Council Bluffs 100 Block is the oldest commercial neighborhood in the metro area. Dating back…read moreto 1853, most of the block's buildings celebrated their sesquicentennial a couple of presidents ago. Omaha's first newspaper was printed on this block. This block is older than the invention of cocktails, imagine that. It was pretty rough and full of scoundrels in those halcyon days: journalists, lawyers, land speculators, railroad magnates, Abraham Lincoln. Eventually things improved as saloons, social clubs, gambling halls and bordellos moved in. Today, the 100 Block is to Council Bluffs what Buckhead is to Atlanta and a new whiskey bar called The Barrel is in the middle of it. The Barrel is a swanky, crafty, well-appointed, beautifully decorated, two-story lounge featuring cocktails made according to original recipes with top shelf brands. No mixes, no shortcuts. Every drink is a double just as our shameless forebears intended them. The interior is full of local art including the Barrel sign over the bar. It's well lit with high ceilings reflecting the warmth of the architecture and the staff.     The night I stopped in was moderately busy for a Friday night before 9 p.m. A dozen or so patrons filled the upstairs bar room before wandering downstairs to the more lounge-y Bottom of the Barrel. This is where the bands play and the furnishings swing more to the comfortable side of things. There is a bar here as well, but the craft cocktails were being made upstairs that night. So back upstairs, I asked for a recommendation to show me the takeaway, the thing I should know about The Barrel. Now normally, if a bartender recommends a whiskey sour I assume he thinks I'm in high school or doesn't want a tip, but the gregarious gent behind the bar that night was telling sincere stories, and not just with his beautiful scalp tattoos. The Whiskey Sour was a great place to start. The simple classic has been denigrated for decades by shortcuts and mixes. But this Whiskey Sour is born again hard made with Cody Road Rye, fresh lemon, egg white and love for only $8. Spectacular. And foamy. There is a literal wall of 130 whiskeys at The Barrel Each shelf is higher than the last. Your taste is limited only by your credit. Their Old Fashioned had me at spherical ice, but I intend to return for more classics (Manhattan, Negroni, Tom Collins) or clever originals (Brockway Bulldog, Baltimore Zoo or The Night is Dark and Full of Terror). And there's beer. Exile Beatnik Sour and Lagunitas IPA ($5), Burning Skye Scottish Ale, Lucky Bucket Wide Eye Coffee Stout, Millstream Pale Ale, Brickway Maple Pecan Brown Ale, Empyrean Dark Side Vanilla Porter ($4.50) and Bud Light ($3). There is live music on Fridays and Saturdays, an open jam from 4-8 Sundays followed by an open mic until close, and comedy every second Wednesday. The Bottom of the Barrel has $3 premium wells on weekends and there is never a cover. With drinks like this, it's obvious why our ancestors were so unapologetic about drinking doubles.
