We were in town visiting my family and planned to go out to dinner. My nephew had actually wanted to go to a different restaurant which ended up being closed, so we headed to Priscilla's. I'm glad that we did. Priscilla's is a soul food haven. Stick to your ribs type of food. Food for Sunday supper. On this cold and rainy night, this was the place to be. Priscilla's has a set menu of main courses and sides depending on what night of the week you visit and the food is cafeteria style. You select your meat or meats, your sides and your drink and then let the games begin. On this night I selected the short ribs. My brother also had the short ribs, my nephew had catfish and my wife had turkey. Always nice to eat with others so you can taste their food too. The short ribs were excellent! They literally melted in your mouth. The short ribs come with our without gravy and like the smart person I am, of course I went with gravy. The gravy tasted homemade and was a nice compliment. I opted for rice and collard greens as my sides. My rice had some crunchy pieces like it was either over cooked or had been sitting too long. Being quite the rice aficionado, I really like my rice to be soft and fluffy. Crunchy rice should only be served with milk! I have had some outstanding greens in the South. These greens were good. They offer both pork and turkey as an option which is nice. I opted for the pork because pork fat rules! I unfortunately didn't taste much pork or smokiness. My nephew shared his catfish with me which was good. The hot sauce was a nice addition. My wife tells me her turkey was very tender and good however the mashed potatoes and stuffing were just average. We all felt that the food could have been bit hotter. The food was warm, just not hot. Service was efficient and friendly and they have folks that will come around and refill your beverages. Good solid comfort food. Would love to try some of the other nights menus sometime. read more

The 1 star was not for the food. The food is good. I gave it a 1 star for its unprofessionalism. I drove over 20 something miles to order food to go. Got there at around 11:10am. There was a line outside. Well perhaps they're opening a little late. I stood in the line which barely moved and thus I asked someone was the restaurant opened. They said it's only for pre-Thanksgiving pickup. Ok, I can understand that, but why didn't you put that on your website or in your voicemail. If you grew up eating dinners with your family in the Deep South the food here is going to be very familiar: heavy on garden vegetables cooked with pork or beef bits, breaded and fried meats or fish, and a few basic pasta dishes. This is cafeteria style, so if you haven't been in school for a while you might forget to grab your tray, silverware and napkins before you order. Ordering is simple. Just tell your server what you want from the several entree items, which rotate daily, and side dish selections. A corn cake is included. I had fried catfish that was tasty but had sat long enough it was room temperature and the breading had lost its crispness. Collard greens had pork bits mixed in and didn't need traditional pepper sauce. They were already plenty peppery and tasted like a little sauce was cooked in. Green beans had potato hunks stirred in with bacon pieces and chopped onions. Lastly, the cornbread was the sweet kind. With the honey I drizzled on top it became my dessert. Pricing was reasonable given the generous portion of food. The service was mixed. Waiting to order I watched several people coming and going as they restocked food trays, placed surplus trays in warmers, and deliver to go orders. Folks lined up behind me and still employees focused on food trays that weren't empty and would have supplied the short line. Ordered takeout 12/31/23, not sure if they are under new management but my daughter became extremely sick after eating the fried shrimp. The shrimp was a tempura style and not specified that way when ordering. Not expected when ordering fried shrimp dinner. Have had issues in the past with food not being ready on time, not so nice staff when picking up orders. During covid we're forced to accept only take out dinners from here; I know it's temporary but I'm looking forward to going back there for all the things I didn't order this first trip. I went with the catfish dinner with the cabbage and beans with an extra side of yams. Drove 20 minutes back home and the fish was still crispy and yet succulent! Best catfish I've had in years! UPDATE: Just went back today and while the girls at the counter are so sweet and friendly they can't make up for the food. The chicken is always delicious but the macaroni was not macaroni and cheese. It was macaroni with cheese on top which they didn't give me any of that and cheese flavored seasoning, it was nothing but flakes of cheese and oil in what they gave me. The greens were supposed to be turkey greens but didn't haven't one piece of meat in them and didn't taste seasoned. The prices have gone up and the portions are low unless you order the side separately. I think $15 for 2 pieces of fish and 2 sides is crazy. I also think $12 for 2 wings and a breast and 2 sides is high. The old prices were much more reasonable. The staff I encountered were very nice but the food can't even stand up to that. I ordered for Thanksgiving catering and I must say this is the most unorganized process I have EVER experienced when it came time to pick up my order. If they are going to continue to offer catering for the holidays, they MUST come up with a better pick-up system. No employees in place to offer crowd control, line was wrapped around the building. Parking lot was packed to the point where there was almost a few fender benders. Once you get in the restaurant, complete pandemonium. Customers hollering, clamoring to get to the counter to put their name on some mysterious list which they reported they will call when your order is ready to pick up, but they never DID. Instead, they were hollering names out in a packed room where you cannot hear. I have been waiting HOURS. The order was paid for in advance and they will not offer a refund if you do not want to continue to wait. Hours of precious time wasted right before the holiday. This is a consumer warning,stay as far away from this business as you can. The level of unprofessionalism and organization is frightening to say the least. They have a system for take out orders which is clear that they do not even understand. They have a no refund policy even after they fail to have your order ready at the promised time. if i order at 2:00pm and you tell me that my order will be ready at 4:18pm then it should be ready around that time not an additional hour wait. They really need to rethink the online ordering and pick up. They have one employee who go and receive your order. He is completely unbothered, no urgency and did not apologize for the delay and the fact that they got my order wrong. I ordered the Turkey wing with greens, dressing and sweet potatoes and it was awful. No seasoning except garlic powder that was overwhelming. The greens were chewy and again no seasoning. $90 for dinner for four and I felt like I completely wasted my money. My moms catfish was so salty that it was terribly inedible. This place i got to say is a great place to get amazing soul food. I came here on a weekend with my girlfriend and she really enjoyed the food as well. Upon going in it seems like a very classical restaurant. Against the wall going in you'll see the kitchen and where all the food is. Now for people who never got food cafeteria style at a restaurant, like me when i came here the first time a while ago, it might be confusing. But really its not, its just like how it use to be back in elementary school where you would walk up and tell them what you want. At the end of the line is where you would pay for the meal. This time i got fried chicken with sides of macaroni and cheese, mash potato with gravy, and a side entree of bbq rubs. Mainly all main entrees comes with 2 sides unless you want to get a side entree like i did with the ribs, but it would of been probably more worth it to just get the entree with the sides. The fired chicken comes in either white or dark meat and i got the white meat. Which as come to expect it still as moist and delicious as always that one of the thing i enjoy about the place. This was the first time i tried the ribs from here and let me tell you all. YES... get it. UGH.. SO good it basically falls off the one without any effort and the the bbq sauce on it with the smokey taste. Truly is amazing. The staff is quiet nice as well from the helpful servers that are really helpful in answering questions to the about how to orders, the great lady at the cash register if you have a conversation with her, and the waiter come to the table to provide hot sauce and any other assistance needed when you're at the table. I have eaten food from the Westchester location as long as the cafeteria has been open. I stopped many times after work for our dinner. We went by today. The food was wonderful as usual. There were a couple of service errors. I ordered my food first. I had to wait for my meat. My husband's plate was done several minutes before mine. He had to stand at the register until mine was present to pay. I went up to the cashier and told her what I was getting. She told me she had to see my plate before we could pay together. He stood there as his food grew cold. Next, as we finished our meals, we asked for take out boxes and cups for our diet cokes. We received our boxes, but we were told that they don't give take out cups. My husband asked my bestie the cashier why. She said they cost money. I know folks in the restaurant business, and they have told me fountain drinks are less than 10 cents. They would have still made money giving use styrofoam cups. The food is great when it is served hot and fresh. However during the pandemic, there were a couple of things which made ordering from Priscilla's a pain! Firstly when you order your food online, don't expect to collect it quick. You not only have a 50 minute wait from the time of ordering and when you are there, you'll have to contend with another 15 minute wait, outside the building where they will announce your name in a microphone that does not work and to deal with two security guards that will let you into the building. I have never heard of such an inefficient way of expediting orders. If you are placing an order over the phone and if you are placing an order in person, those are different systems of waiting in line. If you come in person and place and order, it'll take you another 40 minutes to get your food. Then after your name is called, it will be another 10 minutes getting in. Getting food out to customers is not a rocket science. This incompetence in developing a quick and efficient system has made me not want to ever order online from Priscilla's again. They need to do better with this, otherwise the quality of the food is really not worth the wait. read more

The sides cost about 2 or 3 dollars a piece, and they serve them in very small bowls so you don't get a lot of food. Greens are very spicy and chewy, so there not that good. The dressing is too sweet, the Macaroni was burnt, and the chicken was over cooked and flavorless...... The sweet potatoes are good though. Another problem that I have is that I don't enjoy eating food that it scrapped from the bottom of the pot......those are the portions that should be thrown away instead of being served. I think we went here on an off night at an off time. There was one other party there and I believe they were family or friends because it appeared to me that they were regulars. The sides, unfortunately, had obviously been sitting a while, so they were a little dried out, but they gave us plenty of food to choose from. If, when you sat down to eat, you did not like something, there was so much food on the table between 3 of us that we just tried something someone else had. Everything really tasted delicious. I just think we need to go on a Sunday afternoon when they are really going because my chicken was a bit dried out, but OMG! the seasoning was incredible. This didn't really do it for us though We had the rib tips - YUM - fall off the bone delicious, salisbury steak - was too tough, sweet yams, greens, cabbage, pinto beans, and cornbread - too sweet - not the kind Ma enjoys... I got there around 5pm on Wednesday, a couple people ahead of me in the take out line and there were quite a few tables seated already - thought that was a good sign. The service was friendly, and my fried chicken (dark meat) dinner only took about 10 mins. I took a few bites of the food before I left, fried chicken was a bit over cooked from I suspect heat lamps or food warmers, the crust had flavor but nothing special, if anything I'd head to uncle remus' down the street for my chicken fix. Payton with that being said. I went to the CCH ILLNOIS location Sunday of course I phoned ahead but no one answered not surprising. I waited in line to order and after ordering another 45 minutes only to receive cold hard dry chicken, Mac and greens it wasn't good or bad bad for this kind of food. If I thought that it was good enough to take dinners to the seniors I would have. There's no way that this food should have been cold and lukewarm with the number of waiting customers.
