I ate at this restaurant for the first time today. There is nothing about Priya that I did not like. We had the lunch buffet for $11.50. The food was fresh, tasty, with plenty of choice and variety. Some was mild and some was quite spicy, so there was plenty of options to enjoy. My friend is a vegan and he also had plenty of options. Service was very good. One word.. YUM I've been to Indian restaurants from San Francisco to London... this one is pretty darn good. The BEST you'll find in this area. They can cook your food to taste, mild to spicy. The buffet isn't as great. Like a previous poster said it is a little bland, they don't change up the menu much. BUT as I see buffets, it's more like appealing to the masses. The menu items are great. However... Stay away from the rice dishes, they are bland and the veggies are pre frozen (or so I would guess) I've had several of the meals there, the Butter Chicken is fabulous, rich, good one to share! The grilled lamb.... fabulous! The spinach and cheese dish... so tasty! So my advice, skip the lunch, stay for dinner. The wait staff is really on top of bringing around water. 4.5 stars. Great Indian food and really great service. We have not been to the buffet so can't rate that. The Chicken Tikki Masala (sorry for horrible spelling on this one) is really good. The Dal Curry is also a big hit with my group. We have done both the ala carte and the full option, we liked both, the full option is a smaller entree, but lots of extras and they all tasted good. The Chili Chicken is really good too, but the menu doesn't say that it is 'breaded', or at least has a coating of some kind, but it is a huge serving for an app and is really tasty. read more

Pryia is so so delicious! I haven't tried something I don't like! The staff is friendly and understanding. Once they made a mistake on our order and gave us both meals still in great timing!!! Seeing as Priya is essentially the only show in town when it comes to Indian food, I am happy to have it. I love Indian food and would be so sad if there was no where to go in Chico (like I feel about Dim Sum). The food here is very good (not great) and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The service is good, but the whole experience is ruined by the obnoxious drunken karaoke singing from the bar next door. Seriously, it is INSANELY LOUD and completely ruins any semblance of a dining experience. I don't know how the owners of Priya have put up with this! It must drive away a lot of business, including mine. I will only get take-out from here now, since the last two times I tried to eat in, it was a hot mess. Literally, drunk people sloshing and slurring their words and screaming into the microphone. There was even some swearing. Bottom line... the food is decent, but take it to go. read more

I went on a weeknight with my sister and her family. The ambience was OK, except a 'stale' smell in the air. It was not busy. waiting staff was very nice, looked like a family run restaurant. The menu had both south and north Indian dishes, which can be tricky because the cuisines are very separate. It is like Spanish and Italian food in one restaurant. We decided to order 3 south Indian and 2 North Indian dishes. I usually like food very easily, but this was an exception. The north indian Dal / curry and rice had no flavor (rare for Indian food to have no flavor) and dal was a bit undercooked. South Indian dosas were good, hence the 2 stars. Sambar (south Indian curry served with dosas and idli) was thick in consistency and sweet. Sambar is supposed to be watery and sour. What they called Sambar was greatly underwhelming. which is confusing because neither the North Indian nor South Indian dishes were very good. I've had Indian food and hundreds of restaurants in California and New York. This was in the bottom 5% by taste and preparation. I won't be a regular here. read more

Priya's food has some of the most complex, delicious flavor of any dining establishment in Chico. Most everything I've had at Priya has me audibly "mmm"ing at the first bite. I highly recommend the lunch buffet -for less than 15 bucks you get an all you can eat buffet packed with fantastic offerings - the majority of which are vegetarian-friendly. Fear not, carnivores, there are also a couple of options in there just for you...I've heard multiple people swear by their butter chicken. My personal favorite is their garlic naan bread - even thinking about it is making my mouth water. While this isn't an item that's included with the lunch buffet (plain naan is, and is also quite good) - I'd say its worth shelling out a few extra bucks to splurge for that tasty garlic. My only complaint about the food here is that it is sometimes too rich/buttery/heavy. The staff is very friendly, and there is a swinging door that separates the restaurant from a FULL BAR (The Studio Inn Lounge, a separate business) for your drinking pleasure. Pretty average for Indian lunch buffet. The vegetarian items were quite good but the non vegetarian items left something to be desired. There were 4 non veg items - tandoori chicken, chicken curry, goat curry and butter chicken. I didn't try the tandoori chicken but I did the other 3. They all looked the same and the gravy tasted the same. Come on guys goat curry is NOT supposed to taste and look like butter chicken. If I come back, it will be only for the veg food. read more
