Second time here, It is all you can eat buffet. Must to try if you are local or tourist. We head to Shasta so we decided to try them again because there was a good experience last time. Love the environment and bring us back to the first experience we had here . Service is fast and ambience is Asian . Everything is good and fresh. The food is always fresh, nothing sits out for very long. It's very fresh and delicious.

Kwando's is absolutely the BEST buffet I've been to in a very long time. The service is exceptional and no hassle. Their seafood is delicious & the BBQ pork buns were some of the best I've had, soft delicious pillows of tasty goodness. Ambiance is giving retro traditional Chinese. read more

In our short trip out to Chico, out of all places we ate, this one is the most memorable. This is a Chinese buffet restaurant, and from what we searched, only buffet they had in all of Chico area. Even the casinos no longer offer buffets at casinos (this is very sad). So we are buffet snobs as well. We know a good place when we've eaten at one, and there are not many out there. Really there are what is it a dime a dozen? but the opposite. Let me start off by saying that this place serves normal food. I mean if you remember Hometown Buffet from back in the days, where they just got staple food and it was done well. Not great, but well. This is like that place. They do well with what they offer. First off, visited the salad station. You'd prob thinking, it's just salad right? Well, yes, but this is why this was great. NO ONE WAS THERE!!! LOL. Chico got some fat ppl that don't eat veggies. The vegetables were clean and fresh. 100% they cleaned and prepped this today. Also, their crab salad was stellar. Like right amount of mayo and the crab salad was not the cheap stuff either. Keep in mind there are people going around the buffet stations cleaning up ALL THE TIME TOO, so they are concerned about presentation very much. Had their hot and sour soup. It was good. It did not taste like buffet soup, but it was good like if you were to sit down and eat at a Chinese restaurant good. On to the fried food. This is where they shine. They don't just fry for the sake of frying stuff. They make sure it is lightly battered and seasoned gently. These stuff are not fried from frozen. From the fried chicken (this is fresh - i know that for fact cuz my mouth said so), the fried shrimp stellar. Everything was piping hot like they make sure the warmers are hot and that they refill the food up properly. Like I said multiple workers goes around ensuring things look and is right. Their fries were even hot and crispy. WTF. Those are usually soggy and gross. Not these. Tried so many stuff this evening I think i gained like 10 lbs! I did try the sushi - meh, and it's not expected if you pay $20/pp for buffet your sushi quality gets better. It was just a hair below ok. I didn't care for it, but at same time expectations were low. They also had a grill station where you can pick a boat load of stuff and have them fry it up. I didn't try it, but they have a lot of great options between veggies and meat. Overall, for $20/pp for dinner on a Sunday night is a steal! Like remember Hometown Buffet for $10/pp for dinner? This is like that, but with inflation and tariffs, still a great deal! Next time we in this area, this is first place we'd go back to for dinner. TLDR: Never get the crawfish Okay, let me just preface this by saying that everything else was either okay or good. Now, I feel very bad for the father and his kid that got the crawfish boil right before me. I was really skeptical when I saw they had "cajun crawfish" at a Chinese restaurant... so I passed originally. After having their whole fried shrimp, I figured I'd give it a try before we left. At first, it was fine. Not great, not really bad. I've had cajun crawfish in Louisiana a few times when visiting my parents so my expectations were very low for this Chinese restaurant in Chico, CA to begin with. Then we left and I started the 48 minute drive back to my girlfriend's house in Magalia. Right after we started, I felt a worsening nausea. I also started to get a strong taste of dirty swamp water in my mouth that remained for the rest of the drive. Thank god the nausea and taste subsided by the time we got home. I wanted to just pull over and vomit so badly. I tried drinking a pretty strong Dutch Bros tea from earlier multiple times to try and get rid of the taste.. to no avail. When I got home my stomach was messed up. I'm not sure if she was really quiet or something, but I didn't hear the hostess say anything before she started just walking off towards our table. I just assumed we were getting seated because she looked at us after getting to the little podium and started walking away. Other than that, the service was good. Whenever our water got low, it was filled by a passing waiter before it got empty. The lady at the register was kind and activated the electric toothpick dispenser when she noticed it wasn't working for me. The ambiance is kinda cool. Not super over the top, sort of a slightly laid-back traditional Chinese decoration. Not filled to the brim with decoration like some Chinese restaurants. Okey I give in, fair is fair, Kwando Buffet may lack several things but freshness, amount, variety, value, service etc, are not part of it. On weekends it even offers duck meat, which most of the times is prepared nicely ant that for some this offering is a definite plus, and no, I'm not talking about those people that have ducks as pets, or resent the idea of having duck meat for dinner, but chicken or turkey is just fine. Was in to celebrate double birthdays in the family on Saturday evening. I eat very little at any one sitting so I personally don't opt for buffets much if it is up to me. I've never been impressed with the food quality and selection at Kwandos and ate a little bit before feeling a bit off. The rest of the family seemed to be enjoying their food which is good. My son seated to my immediate left mentioned that he had just squashed a cockroach moving by the table. As if my stomache wasn't already upset as it was I had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom. Fortunately I didn't throw up, when belching a bit relieved the discomfort. I don't think I've ever specifically chosen to go to Kwando's, but rather go along when others have made that choice. The discomfort from the food and the idea they have coackroaches in their establishment reconfirmed my decision not to go to Kwandos of my own accord. I also am never a fan of establishments that force a gratuity on parties bigger than six. For a forced gratuity I expect the best in service and food, and we received neither. read more

I come here maybe once a year. The food hasn't really changed over the years. My son wanted a buffet, and in Chico the options are limited. The food is ok. Some of it is bland. The Sushi is fine. The pork bun was pretty good. What I missed was the almond cookies! Their desserts were meh, except for the whipped cream stuff...I think it was maybe strawberry. That was good. The service is great. I ate here recently to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. Kwando's ambiance is similar to China Buffet: A koi pond at the entrance and a hostess who'll seat you and take down your drink orders. Soft drink refills are free. I love the General Tso's chicken! It's crispy, glazed in a mildly sweet sauce, with a few chili peppers. Vegetarian fried rice was fluffy and served hot. The sushi bar has California Rolls, Philly cheese rolls, and Tuna rolls and a serve-yourself Wasabi plate. Dessert includes vanilla frozen yogurt, strawberry sherbert, chocolate or coffee cake. The waiter checked on us every few minutes to refill our drinks. This buffet has a substantial selection. read more

STOLE MY MONEY!!!! Me and my friend went to eat here at lunch time. Lunch prices are 13ish a person. And we both got 3 dollar drinks. So tell my why these thieves took an extra 15 bucks. My bill said 37.57 I tipped 2 bucks cus I was trying to be nice despite their horrid service. Which makes my bill 39.57. They took 45.08 from my money. I went back and asked him about it. He said it was 39.57 that came out. Asked him why it took more than that out again and he said it should change soon. So tone only are they thieves, there fucking liars. Overall. We went in at 3pm (dinner time pricing). Food was room temp at best not hot and not as advertised on their menu (many items were not available). The service was lacking (our first time there), we had no idea what we were suppose to do. We were sat at a table with no communication with the staff. And the next time the staff was at the table was to bring the bill. I would prefer not to go back and just go to a regular Chinese place. This used to be my kids favorite place, and although I thought they were subpar it's always been worth the money.. since our last time, it has significantly went downhill. I would rather pay more, especially for a buffet than to have seafood that was inedible, cold plates and left out dairy products that aren't exchanged properly. We paid $115 for 2 kids & 3 adults which isn't bad but the only thing we ended up eating was coconut shrimp which still led to severe bubble guts for some of us. I hate to write this with the cost of everything going up especially in a town that only has one buffet but it's our experience and we won't be back anytime soon. Worst experience, service, and food. I've been coming here for awhile until an incident that happened and I hope this place shuts down. So we came during lunch and had some chow mein and a strand of hair was found in the chow mein. We told one of the servers and our plates were removed from our table and they informed the manager and they never came to our table to apologize or removed the pan of chow mein that was left on the line. A fresh batch was where the hair was found. And we had to tell the cook to remove the pan from the line. Because they still left it there after I told them I found hair there and the manager was telling him to take it back will he did but not even 3 minutes later he comes out with chow mein which was the one they took back that had hair. As we go to the front to see if we had to pay. The manager was rude and unprofessional including the front lady with glasses who didn't even know what was happening and she had told us to not come back. There are many varieties of food, Chinese food, sushi, salad/fruit bar, also you can pick whatever meats, seafood, vegetables and noodles and they cook in the hibachi style for you. Of course, there is a dessert station. Can't say they have the best food but it's decent and it's a very reasonable price, you can't beat that!
