Everything was excellent especially the Korma. With the limited summer menu, we ended ordering "A La- Carte (Lamb Korma)", and sauteed vegetables. They were able to accommodate a restrictive diet of no sugar or carbs. With no outside tables, we ended up going over to the campus and eating on the lawn with the doggo. read more

No. No. No. Why does this place have any good reviews? Not only is the food gross but the service is awful. They had the cojones to bring me my sides without the main dish and then charged me for the sides. Whaaaat? No explanation just got defensive and didn't offer a different main. The silliest thing I've ever seen. Needless to say, I will not be back and happy to encourage others to go somewhere else. I'm not sure why this place has such overwhelmingly positive reviews. Tikka masala is crap, bland. It's so bland that I'm sure the business owners don't eat their own food. Maybe I should have tried the butter chicken. Veggi plates are all overcooked and/or soggy. Prices are expensive, basically the same prices as a sit-down restaurant like Priya but sub-par quality. $15 for a 2-item plate, $4 extra for one serving of bread, $7 for a mango lasi. Devine. Vegan-Friendly. Flavorful. Surprisingly Simple. Wow. What a place. I cannot believe it's taken me so long to try Gogi's Cafe. As a vegan, I have dined in Chico at many a places. Even Indian places. Never have my culinary socks been blown off like they were here. The place is set up cafeteria style. Some people seem to look down on that in previously seen Yelp reviews, but I think it made this place non-pretentious. Gogi's isn't trying to be upscale. It's not trying to be fine dining. The premise here is good food, served fast, cafeteria style, located right at the edge of Chico State University. There were plenty of vegan options here to enjoy, something I was glad to see. I dined on a lunch plate with a vegan tofu curry, a vegan chicken dish, rice and a side of Vegan Garlic Naan. The vegan tofu curry, as others have described on Yelp, had the taste of macaroni and cheese to some extent. Don't don't be fooled...I'm not knock it. It was INCREDIBLE. By far the best vegan Indian dish I've ever had. The vegan chicken dish was great, too, although not quite as memorable as the tofu curry. The Vegan Naan bread was insane. It was SO GOOD. I literally could dip this in anything and be satisfied. It was both crispy and soft (right?), flavorful and simple. It was, in a word, unforgettable. First visit to Gogi's, Covid has made dining a very different experience, and car dining really stinks! However, Gogi's provided a wonderful meal with fabulous flavor, and friendly personal service! I enjoyed the two dish vegetarian plate with a aloo gobhi, chana masala, with a side plain naan, and a side of samosas that also included a small serving of chana masala and sweet chutney, and of course, a mango lassi. My sister visited around Thanksgiving, after she had been on an ayervedic retreat. She had beenon a South Indian cooking tour within the year, so naturaly it is up to little brother to find the rifght places to eat in Chico. Gogi's is first on our the list and won the my sister the world traveler food award. Everything was write home good. My sister was in heaven. The chili heat here is pretty low for Indian food, in fact mild by any standard. For me that means the flavors stand out, and they did. First off the golden rice is great. Channa Masala I had with Vegetable Korma, outstanding In my book. Panak Paneer was buttery good. I have gone back, and consider it a good place to take friends. Here right now. Ordered the aloo gobi, a side of naan, mint chutney and the pickles. I asked for no rice. The woman serving asked me 3 times if I truly didn't want rice. I said I was okay on rice every time and then, I was served rice. I can see why they pressed rice so much because had I not have gotten rice I'd have had a half cup of aloo gobi. To eat. They said the naan would come out separately, as they make it right in store. By the time it came out I was done picking the aloo gobi out of my rice bowl. You pay $1 additionally for the pickles and mint chutney, we received a decent amount of chutney and about a tablespoon of pickles. Paid about $28, and I'm still hungry. Not impressed. Also, I'm over going out to eat and paying a good price for food and getting shitty food, I could have made this at home and saved money. I have been coming here pretty regularly for the past year and each time they impress me less and less. The portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller, and the prices are still high. When I went today, I got what seemed like half a meal. There was literally 2 spoonfuls of rice, and 3 bites of chicken on my plate. $10 can get you a lot of great food at most restaurants in Chico, but not at Gogi's.
