Protrans should be on Elm Street because it was a nightmare from day one to over 2 months later when I got it back after being overcharged. They lie constantly and overcharge, never pulled my trans, put in a used TCM, charged me $3500.00, and gave it back with a large scratch on the fender and a leaky transmission. If I hadn't gotten under the truck and looked it over It would have run out of fluid and burned up, it was leaking that much. don't know who wrote all the good reviews but I think it was Steve or some of his cronies in the shop. Tried talking to Steve but all he would do was cuss and get loud, such a blowhard jerk my opinion. My mother took her jeep in to repair her transmition wich costed her 2,800 they told her it was fixed so we took it home but it was still doing the same thing we had taken it in for they then told my mom the bring it back it because it was the battery and charged her 400 for the battery but when we took it home it was still doing the same thing so we took it to hartnell transmitions they told us that pro trans auto had broken parts on the transmition and that they didnt even put a new trasmition like pro auto said they did hartnell fixed the transmition and it started working good again so all in all i would never recomind going to pro trans auto because they say they fix things and put in new things but just lie and get paid for doing nothing read more

Where does an Uber driver go after thousands of rides all over the San Francisco Bay Area to get her car repaired now that her car only goes in reverse? Out of freakin town of course! As I rolled into Pro Trans transmission repair the view was impressive from the front seat of the tow truck (I don't recommend arriving with that status but W/ E). The business had at LEAST 10 lifts for car repairs!! The shop was neat and organized and Steve, the owner, and Joe, my car's mechanic, were thorough in running down the bad news---HELLA expensive transmission replacement and I also wanted new front stabilizers. I was freaking out of course but then my car prices more than$40 K new so getting another one was not an option. So I paid and prayed. Not all of it but enough that he started the repairs. Fast forward: The car RUNS LIKE BRAND NEW!! I am so thankful for their expertise and outstanding customer service. This shop took 15 days to repair my vehicle, and did the work without providing an updated estimate or authorization. I dropped my truck off on 07-05-2017, and was told he would have it overnight. I was given an original estimate of $98 for diagnosis of the problem. Over the next 2 1/2 weeks, I called several times asking for an update and an estimate for the work to be done, but I was consistently put off. The owner said he planned to obtain a used component (Transmission Control Module - TCM)in order to diagnose the problem. He claimed he was saving me money, because had this not been the cause of the problem, I would be spared purchasing a non-returnable new part. My impression was that he'd obtained this used part for diagnostics only. I received my first call initiated by him on 7-18-2017 and he informed me he would be obtaining the TCM "tomorrow" but noticed I needed a new brake booster. He told me that it would cost approximately $400 to do this work, which I approved. He did not provide any other estimate for the transmission work, and no authorization was given to proceed with repairs for that problem. On 7-20-2017 he called to tell me he had "beat" the problem, that my truck was repaired and that the bill was $1,650.00. I asked him if he'd installed a new TCM, and he told me that he had installed a used one. I was baffled, because I had not authorized the work to be done, nor was I given the choice of repairing my vehicle with used or new components. On 7-21-2017 I went to retrieve my truck and to discuss this situation with the owner. I asked to see the itemized list of work done, and saw that he had replaced a Neutral Safety Switch, and asked about this. He told me that this was needed as the previous models were obsolete. I also asked about the 4.00 hours needed to diagnose the problem, and pointed out that my original estimate for diagnosis was $98.00 (1 hour). I pointed out that he had never contacted me with an updated estimate for this trouble shooting time nor for the entire job whatsoever. His response to me was that he was busy with work and didn't have time to call me on every little matter. I pointed out that this was his responsibility and obligation to do so, to which he gave no reply. His sarcastic solution was to put my old parts back on the truck, and return it to me unrepaired. I told him I would be willing to do that, and that I would pay him for the work completed on the brake booster because I had authorized it. He then complained how unfair it would be for me to do this since he had diagnosed the problem, and I could just take the truck to a new location and have the TCM replaced without performing a diagnosis. Since I no longer wished to have him working on my truck, I told him I was through talking with him and paid for the charges as represented on the invoice. After getting home, I saw that the invoice showed I had authorized all the work to be completed. This is absolutely not true! Had I known what the estimate was, I could have discussed all of these issues at the time on the phone with Steve. The only estimate we discussed was for the brake booster. read more

I can't say enough about how amazing these guys are! We were driving up to Oregon from the Bay Area with two new borns and started to feel some problems with what we thought was the transmission. We called them ahead of time to see if they would be able to take a look at the RV for us. They said there wasn't a lot they could do for us today but after they found out we were traveling in 105 degree weather with 2 babies, they told us to come on in. Steve asked to go on a ride in the RV to see what we were talking about. He promptly removed his boots prior to getting in without us saying a word... Very professional. He took it out for about 45 min. During this time, the men in the office let us stay in there with them and they put on cartoons for our babies!! Once Steve and my buddy who owns the RV returned, he advised us it was actually starving for fuel and it wasn't the transmission. He allowed us to work on it ourselves in his parking area and after we changed the fuel filter, he gave us his card and told us to call if we have any questions. The owner just finished yelling at me for questioning his decision for jury rigging an AC hose. He has a thousand dollar tool that could have saved me hundreds of dollars and he's been working on cars for years and how dare I question what he was doing. Steve seemed like a nice enough guy then lost all my respect after job was done. They got the job done way faster than expected. But when time came for the bill. It seemed high. I payed it and took transmission. When I got home noticed he charged $188 more than the labor we agreed on. I called him today he said what do you want me to do. I had him refund the difference. He blew up with the f word every other word. Told me never to call him for help again. I would not say not to use them. Because the job was done right and exceeded expectation on time. Had a great experience with Pro-Trans! I was on my way home from vacation and my transmission went outside of Redding on the 4th of July weekend. Called first thing Monday morning and was able to get my car into the shop to be evaluated and fixed. I lived three hours from the shop and when the work was done...the car was towed back up to me in Sacramento! Transmission went on truck, we took to Pro Trans. Steve the owner had it for two weeks. Has no idea what they are doing. When finally fixed $4300 and ground going into 4th gear. Went 900 miles and transmissions went again. Called Steve said he was coming then next day said take it to another shop to find out what's wrong. I asked if he was going to pay for the tow because we had a 12 month 12,000 warranty I was told by Steve to go F__k myself and your on your own then he hung up. Another transmission shop fixed it with a list of things Pro Trans did wrong to include the wrong bolts in the wrong places and he had destroyed the clutch, $2800 which he refuses to honor. Please do not use this shop. We have been in a motel room for over three weeks, not from the area. Trying to dispute through visa at the moment. Just do yourself a favor find anyone else, do it yourself, it has to be better than this place even if you don't know what your doing. Went to Protrans after transmission went out on family vacation up to Shasta I was recommended by AAA service center which do not use their recommendation for Protrans in Redding Ca. After having giving a bull line by Steve the owner of Protrans that the transmission that was being installed was a better updated transmission and was told that the warranty was a premium warranty from his source for transmissions. Which is Transtar industries 36 month 100,000 mile. I approved the work after in trusting in Steve as a profession in his trade. After being called that truck was ready for pick-up I had paid the $4,500.00 bill I took truck for a test spin and truck engine light came on I brought back and was told by Steve at Protrans it was a sensor so waiting the day for problem and being told it was resolved. (I believe that the transmission was still the issue due to my current situation today). After a month with no issues I was driving and check engine light came on and said pull over due to engine problem after calling a tow truck to take to my mechanic not knowing situation. A diagnostic report came back from new mechanic that the transmission has failed in diagnostic report due to TSB inside transmission needed to be re flashed which updates the new transmission with the computer system with the truck and if not re flashed will cause damage and from conversation between my mechanic and Steve it was not done which we have in writing from my mechanic Which according to my conversation is Steve at Protrans Steve did not have the right equipment to do. So after 2 weeks of trying to get transmission sent to have fixed due to Steve and Transtar not agreeing on warrantied transmission it was finally sent to my mechanic in Santa Rosa and when new transmission was sent transmission pan was warped and needed to be replaced so now I have another bad transmission from a shady mechanic Steve at Protrans and his source for parts Transtar out of Sacramento Ca. So after conversation with Steve owner at Protrans he was going to reinbursed for the extra cost which is now up to $2,400.00 over and above cost of $4,500 I had initially paid and still feel uncomfortable with the new transmission provided due to service and experience I had with Steve owner at Protrans in Redding Ca I have written a certified letter with no reply and after reading other complaints on Google and how he is not professional with how he acts in a problem as he does not warrant his work fully and professionally acts. I am now going to send complaints to the Department of California Bar Bureau of auto repair as well as all social media Google /yelp and all the sources I am also going to file a civil lawsuit for the new repairs and time truck was down due to it is my work vehicle and was needed for work as well as having to pursue recouping funds. Do not trust Protrans or Steve read the reviews first make a sound decision on mechanic you decide to choose to fix your vehicle which I should had done my diligence and reading Steve at Protrans reviews. Awful experience, and I've considered reporting to licensing boards about this experience. Initially brought my car in as check engine light came on, and regular mechanic stated it was a transmission issue. Good reviews online, and calling ahead to get a sense of what it would cost, led me to bring it in to Pro Trans. Brought it in in the AM, and waited until late afternoon to call back since I hadn't heard about the car. Steve stated that he's getting "all these calls" from me and my wife. My wife hadn't ever called him. Anyway, said he'd get to the car the next day. Again, hadn't heard anything by late afternoon, so I called and he stated he'd started working on it. This is without me agreeing to work to be done yet, and not signing any agreement to pay for diagnostic, or understanding exactly what work would be done. At this point, just want the car and to be done, so it wasn't until the following day (day 3) that I could get the car. About one month later, gears are slipping until finally it won't get out of 2nd, and the light is back on. Take it back to Pro Trans in the AM, don't hear anything and so I call in the late afternoon. Steve says he'll get to it the following day but has a feeling the tranny is done. He calls me the next day, says the tranny is done and it'll be more than the car's worth to replace, so we agree to a sale of the car over the phone with a plan for me to bring in the title later that day to finalize the deal, and for me to get my belongings out of the car. When I arrive, the car is up on a lift, front tires gone, and the engine on a "pogo" as they've started dismantling the engine. All of this is done before the transaction is finalized, and before the title is in his name. He can't get the car down, so we agree to the next day to finalize the deal. I arrive the next day, and Steve says "I forgot about it" and that it's locked up. This causes me to have to arrange between my work, wife's work, and 2 small kids to come back on a third day to get into my dismantled car. I considered cancelling the transaction, and bringing charges against Pro Trans for illegally stripping down what is still legally my car. I decided otherwise, and came back the next day with a family member to help with my belongings. The car, legally still mine, is even further stripped at this point. After gathering my belongings, Steve and I complete the title transfer at which point my family member asks "why is the car stripped down?" causing Steve to become very escalated, posturing towards my family member and with raised voice stating he hasn't done anything wrong, getting in the face of my family member, who is quietly standing there, and yelling that he doesn't like "being cross examined...I'm an honest person...I haven't done anything wrong...What, you want me to put it back together?" all in a yelling voice with an aggressive posture. My family member has to step around Steve while he's still making these comments and we quickly get out of the office. I thought Steve was going to hit my family member, and if we hadn't hurried out of there, he may have. A business like this does not deserve your business, unethical, unstable, and bordering on unlawful. read more

I had them replace my steering column because the gear shifter on my van broke. $400 job. I stopped by early before they were finished fixing it and noticed thast they had put the pieces to my steering column in the back of my van. A few hours after I recieved my van back I went to go lower my right far back seat to load somerhing in & noticed the plastic piece over the lever to lower the seat was broken. Pressed on the lever & the seat lowered but when i went to go pit it back up it would go back up and was stuck. I habe mini van because I have a family of 6 & without that back seat I cant fit everyone in, so I was little worried. I called Steve @ Pro Trans and he told me he believed it wasnt due to them working on it but to bring it back in anyway. He informed me that they could fix it but I would have to pay for the parts, ugggh, but ok I did it. A few weeks later my steering column started to come loose again & I immediately called Steve @ Pro Trans. I informed him of the issue & he told me to bring it back in. Then again, stated that it was not due to them working on it & that I would have to pay for the work to be done to fix it again. I was very frustrated but for some reason decided to bring it back into him anyway. I had to work the next morning so my wife brought the van back in and had to take the kids with her. The job was supposed to be fairly quick so she waited while the work was being done. Well, something happened and they couldnt finish the work that day, so my wife calls me and tells me that they want her to take the van back. This concerned me because I didnt wanna pay the initial service charge when i brought it back in the next day. Bcause at this point it seems like they are charging to fix problems that they created & I wanted to make sure I wasnt occuring more charges by bringing it back in the next day. After talking with my wife I call the shop (where my wife and kids are waiting). Steve is on break so I speak with his secretary. I asked her about occuring more charges if I brought it back in and she said she didnt know the answer. So I asked her to call Steve and check. At this point she became VERY irrate & refused to call him stating that I was a crappy husband and father for having my kids & wife wait there instead of taking home. This completely shocked me & I didnt know how to respond at first. But when i did respond I told her she didnt know how to do her job & this sent her off even worse. She the told me I was a "f*^'ing piece of s*^t!" I immediately hung up and called my wife and had her take the van back. I called Steve the next day & he informed me that I was in the wrong & not to vring the van back in. So for $400 I got a busted back seat, a steering column that wasnt fixed properly, and told I was a crappy father & husband & then some. Thanx Pro Trans read more

Took my car here to get my transmission rebuilt. When the owner (Steve) wasnt busy looking down my top or at my behind he was cracking jokes and making fun instead of handling the conversation as a professional. It took them a week to do my tran which is fine however when I got it back my hood was dented and didint shut right. The gentleman that did the work tried telling me my car was like that when I brought it in. Not the case. Then after leaving and i noticed my car was making a noise that it shouldnt be and that it wasnt making before. I took it back for Steve to listen to and he told me he didnt hear anything. I took it to a shop up the road and they heard it and after inspection noticed that Pro trans forgot to put several bolts back in which was causing my transmission to rattle and move around thus making a noise. I again took it back to Steve and pointed this out to him and he was extremely irritable and just said that fine he would fix it personally. So Steve offererd me car care, so i was able to make the payments i could afforred and keep my car. Have three kids and working i really needed my car asap. Absolutely disappointed! I saw the 5 Star ad and I drove 2 hours to come to this shop! The front desk guy was Very Friendly and seemed to truly care but the Owner Steve on the other hand was extremely rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. I had a diagnosis ran on my transmission and he was charging me through the roof prices for no fix at all. The owner cursed at me when I explained my concerns and he returned the car with an oil pan under the car and transmission fluid leaking everywhere! I have pictures too!! The Transmission had never leaked and had gone in for a Check engine light. They stripped the bolt and didn't even have the courtesy to fix their mistake! Infuriated I paid and left. I had to keep topping off oil the 2 hours home since it was pouring out of the drain bolt. I had the transmission looked at later on from a local transmissions shop, it turns out that it was an easy to fix sensor and a very dirty transmission oil filter. None of this was told to me at Pro Trans. I am usually extremely easy to work with but this was an absolute joke. I took my 02 Mazda Protege here when it started to feel like the engine wasn't getting enough power, sputtering, etc. I thought my car might be on it's last leg (it has 175k miles) and I didn't know what was wrong but thought it could be a clutch/transmission problem. I had no idea where to take it but decided on Pro Trans because it's close to my house and somebody actually answered the phone when I called on a Saturday. The shop is nothing fancy. A really nice dog greeted me when I came in and brought me a dirty rag to play tug o war. Steve was the person who helped me. He was very friendly, took me on a test drive and then gave me a ride back to my house. Turns out all my car needed was a tune up (spark plugs, ignition wires) which shows how little I know about cars. Steve was awesome, he explained everything to me so that I could understand it, and it ended up costing less than his original estimate. I was really glad I went to Pro Trans. read more
