I really liked this place!! We went after a hike near Nyack so we were STARVED. The service was quick and waiter was so nice! The food was BOMBBBB. You must get the wings and the short rib quesadilla- note it has horseradish so that threw me off a bit but it was sooooo tasty. The prohibition burger was delish as well! It's unfortunate to see this neighborhood standard go down hill. We've tried it 3 times since it changed owners. The service is sub par, the wait staff all cluster in a curtained room at the back of the restaurant and seem to avoid the customers as much as possible. The bartender, a pleasant young woman, is inattentive and unfortunately, not great with mixed drinks. The last time I was here I just ordered a soda and it was flat and warm. My partner ordered a mixed drink that was bitter and undrinkable. We ordered 3 appetizers and the mezze dip, which was supposed to have 3 different dips had 2 dip bowls with the same dip in it. The pita was cold and barely toasted. It was disappointing and below average. We were the only people at the bar by the way and the bartender 'forgot' to put in all 3 appetizers so only 2 came out. She was barely behind the bar most of the time and was also repeatedly hiding in the back area with the other staff. The owner was there and is a pleasant guy but we won't go back just to be let down a 4th time. The former staff here were so attentive and engaging. This group seem inexperienced, scared of the customers and poorly trained. Unless the service improves and the kitchen starts turning out a better product, I doubt this place will last long and that's really unfortunate as it seems the owner really cares. read more

I stumbled upon this bar/restaurant thanks to Yelp while bar hopping in Nyack and I'm glad I did. This place has a cool, classy vibe. Think speak easy with a touch of Great Gatsby. Kind of hipster, but in a good way. They have these cool and intimate booths that would be great for dinner for a date or to celebrate a special occasion. I sat at the bar, it was early in the night so it wasn't busy yet. They have an extensive wine and beer menu and unique specialty drinks. The drinks were well made and strong. The Mac & Cheese was excellent (see photo). Simple but yet so good. The best thing I ordered was the Prohibition burger. This was not your regular ole burger. It was so flavorful and juicy. Also got the grilled cheese shots, which was two sandwiches (four half slices), sitting in a shot glass with tomato soup filling the glass :0 My entree was the largest pork belly I've ever had. Quite fatty, which I guess is to be expected from pork belly. Ask for extra BBQ sauce. Got the giant pitcher of Sangria, which was a great money deal! Tastes fresh and not over-sweet. Prohibition River has gone so far down. Paid 100.00 for 2 drinks, a burger, and the worst kale salad I've ever had.

Stopped by on a chilly Saturday afternoon for lunch before heading back to Connecticut. Very cool vibe inside with window seating, which I was lucky enough to snag a seat by. Service was comfortably slow, and despite the little waits it gave you time to soak in the coming's and going's of Nyack. Food and drinks were delicious! My husband ordered a beer, and myself the Sparkling White Cosmo. I'm not a big vodka drinker, but something about this drink caught my eye, and I'm so glad I tried it. For lunch, my husband ordered the Steak Frites and was raving about how good it was. I ordered the 82 Main Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which was good, but the lettuce got soggy quickly. The chicken could have used more seasoning as well. For dessert we ordered the Apple Pie Eggrolls, which were pretty good. A little burnt and the apples needed more cinnamon sugar, but still yummy. Next time I'm in Nyack, this will definitely be a place I would consider coming back to! read more

Spent yesterday afternoon wandering around Nyack and became a bit hungry. Spotted Prohibition River and decided to stop in. Well, not exactly the restaurant, it was more like a table that we liked. The front is open and the table was located inside but close enough to the sidewalk where we could look out but be isolated from the commotion. For us, this was enough. I had no expectations of the food or drink and was thrilled just finding a cool location to chill out. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Kind of like an upscale Irish Pub with a bit more refinement. Dark paneling, vintage Guinness posters and large leather upholstered booths abound with a spacious bar area and tables close to the street. Again, no expectations. Friendly waiter brought the menus and I was mildly surprised that I could order brunch mid afternoon. For $15 had what was probably the best bacon, sausage & cheddar omelet I have ever eaten with potatoes that were, for lack of a better work, spectacular and a free Bloody Mary that I would have gladly paid for because it too was excellent. Our waiter mentioned that we missed the mark because he thought the short rib hash was even better than what we ordered and what we ordered was amazing. I have not had a go to place in Nyack for quite a while. That ended yesterday. I highly recommend Prohibition River and cannot wait to return there soon to try their hash. Prohibition Burger offers the best reward after a great day of hiking at Harriman State Park! It's one of those menus that you just stare at and keep saying "oh my god" to you table mates. Luckily we snagged the last of the special egg rolls, Short Rib with Mac n' Cheese. They come with a home made ranch dressing which was amazing. Then I had the Prohibition Burger, which was cooked perfectly. The beer cheese wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping, but the homemade seasoned pickles were a nice touch and I'm obsessed with onion jam!! My boyfriend had the Belly Buster Burger, and I snagged a bite...also freaking amazing! The only thing I was disappointed by was their fries. They just weren't great and didn't have much flavor or seasoning. But the ketchup did have a nice flavor to it. To finish things off I had a Pumpking IPA, which I've had before, but the cinnamon sugar rim really added a new depth and flavor to it. Definitely stop by if you're in (or near) Nyack!! after a 5 mile hike with the family we were ready to show off our hard by eating lol. So we had to make sure our choice for brunch was the right one. Our first choice only served for pick up which led us to Prohibition. And honestly I'm glad that happened because this spot definitely was the best choice. Great service, cool environment with a night life feel but still kid friendly. They were great with making sure everyone was comfortable with safety precautions for Covid. Me and the lady had the Shrimp Po Boy and the kids had the Chicken Sandwich's. All served in great time, great temperature with a picture worthy decor (the french fries were perfect). I highly recommend this spot for brunch and I look forward to putting the kids to bed one night and seeing what the after hour vibes are like. read more

It seems insane that this was the first time I've ever eaten at Prohibition River. I'm in Nyack EVERY DAY and I've heard great things about the food. But, I had just never pulled the trigger on going there. We decided to go for dinner last night and I'm really glad we did. It was delicious. I started with a cocktail called The 82 Main - bourbon, aperol, vermouth and bitters - it was great but I would have liked a splash of citrus, maybe grapefruit. Hands down, the highlight of the meal was the buffalo cauliflower bite appetizer. They had all the heat and zing of wings but with cauliflower that still had a little crunch to it. And the way the blue cheese just sorta melted on top was divine. The fish sandwich "aka Hook, Line and the Kitchen Sink" was fried to perfection with light breading and quite a nice size piece of fish. I appreciate the fact that the bun was even "scooped out" a little to make room for all the sandwich insides and to cut down on the bread. I obviously need to visit and explore Nyack more often. I only go down to Nyack for one reason and one reason only, 4th of July. However, today was a little more special because I was meeting with a friend and we randomly chose this restaurant. I won't beat around the bush. I will definitely be back here. I ordered the Half Roasted Chicken and it's EXACTLY what I wanted; very well done, juicy, just the right amount of seasoning and spices. Their macaroni and cheese was very delicious and our waitress was the sweetest. I really liked her baby blue nail polish. I'm definitely going back to try the steak and some of their drinks. Solid place. Gotta love their take on classic pub food. I tried their mac and cheese, really good! The wings were great, and the prohibition burger is a show stopper. So my husband and I stopped am here today after walking the street fair like we normally do and I have to say we were so disappointed. We go and understand it's super crowded but we sat and she took our drink order 30 minutes later didn't get any drinks walked by us a hand full of times and didn't even ask to take our order. New ownership... terrible service. Stopped in on a particularly busy Sunday afternoon. The owner told us there would be a wait as they were backed up in the kitchen. We said we understood, he sat us at a table immediately and we placed our order. At first the water brought to our table was in a dirty carafe. We asked the owner if we could instead place an order for soda, he said we would have to wait for our server to ask for that. 45 minutes later and still no food. We asked the owner how much longer we could expect to wait. His only response was 'I told you it would be awhile'. After an hour of total wait time, and seeing several tables around us being served food who had been seated after us, we again approached the owner and asked for the status of our food. His only response again was 'I told you it would take awhile'. We were so hungry we decided to leave and on our way out the owner could only be bothered to shout after us 'please don't come back'. It's always happy hour here in prohibition river. Since I had to go back to work, I settled for a cold glass of water instead of there $5 drafts or $6 mixed drinks. On Sundays they serve half off bottle of selected wines. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. This had grilled chicken, peaches, goat cheese and mixed greens with ranch dressing on a baguette. Chicken was grilled to perfect. The combination of sweetnees from peaches and bitterness from mixed greens is surprisingly very good. The golden fries were very good too. It waa fried to perfection; not oily. I mixed the overly sweet ketchup with siracha and it was amazing. My waitress was very sweet and attentive and made sure everything was going well. What a great night. We were at Prohibition River last night and the food was really good. We started with 3 appetizers for the table. Roasted Brussels Sprouts (without the bacon though), buffalo cauliflower bites and the shells and cheese. I honestly can say that I cannot recommend one over the other. They ALL really THAT good. I had the classic burger and it was very, very good. Everyone else had the southern fried chicken sandwich which they said was very good too. What made our visit to Prohibition River so good was that our waitress was excellent. Her recommendations were spot on from drinks to food to dessert. Wow! If you're looking for a casual place that has spectacular food with a great vibe you are going to feel very at home. We had the mac & cheese bacon egg rolls, the lollipops which was spicy sausage wrapped in bacon with a homemade dipping sauce, the short ribs (Fantastic) and the Prohibition burger. Everything was flavorful, fresh and hot, plus the food came out fast. We had a lot of driving to do so we didn't drink much but the beer selection is ample and creative and the one glass of Merlot certainly did the trick. Wow! read more
