Good beer and service, absolutely mediocre food. Seats are nice outside and plenty of them, but just surprised how bland the food was. Giant basket of fries and dime cup of ketchup. Salad with no dressing and they were going to charge me for "extra" dressing. You are charging $18 for a chicken sandwich, unreal that they hold back on condiment size and even upcharge for the normal amount. We had to get our own napkins and silverware when food was brought to us too. Paid a lot of money for very little, I don't think I will be going back, there are just too many options to resort to mediocre. read more

It's hip to be at Yorkshire Square. Well, at least it's possible at all to do Yorkshire Square under COVID-19 restrictions, while it's not so possible at other Torrance breweries which I've historically favored. They do offer a small food menu of British pub-inspired items and they've always had outdoor seating, so I was able to enjoy a Wednesday night dinner here. The brewhouse (aka the actual equipment/containers used to brew the beer) is pretty small, so if you think about it, it's not that surprising that their available beer selection is rather small. Including the beer which they'd just run out of, there were only five beers on cask - an older serving style adding more flavor and tending to yield creamier beverages - and four beers on draft. Yorkshire Square doesn't really do trendy beer styles, but what I tasted was quite drinkable and, at $10 per flight, affordable enough. As for food, I went with the Onion Stout Cheese Burger ($13) on a whim instead of something more "traditional." The burger was fairly modest and tasted more like what you'd find at an old-school tavern rather than a modern gastropub, but it was on a satisfying sweet bun and came with a nice optional slaw topping. The thick-cut fries (seemingly identical to the chips in the fish and chips, by the way) were sadly mushy and devoid of any crispy texture whatsoever. The gravy was good, but it's just a gravy and doesn't really cover up other issues all the way. Employees were observant of COVID-19 protocols not merely in terms of asking for a food order with beer or mask-wearing when not eating or drinking, but even to the point of asking groups whether they were comprised of members of one household. The tables outside appeared to be distanced appropriately. Takeout is available. I will be happy to make Yorkshire Square an add-on to my Torrance beer trips once things return to normal. They're sure close enough to some of my favorite spots and target a different beer niche than most places. read more

Cool space!!! Bricks with fireplace that does have an old European vibe. And live music a lot of nights of the week. This did make it loud just fyi but enjoyed. They had a cider on tap, which is amazing. It was good! But it was $10 with standard tip for a 5 Oz pour. Ouch. In short, I miss Yorkshire and I regret choosing to dine here this evening despite the nice ambiance and great location. I spent $28 on the most mediocre chicken sandwich I've ever had the displeasure to consume and a very modest pour of beer (not even a pint!). I had their hot honey chicken sandwich, which I came to learn was NOT fried. The sauce was weird and neither reminiscent of hot nor honey. The bread was stale. The chicken was half of a thigh filet at best (small portion) and the only topping was shredded lettuce (crunchy water). As someone else mentioned, there is truly just too much good food in the area to waste my money and calories with the food here. Beer was okay, but nothing spectacular. Unfortunately, this location isn't what I thought it would be. I think I'll just go to Red Car across the street instead. read more

nice space with indoor and outdoor action. good band was playing that night. but then I ordered a beer. they had a good enough selection--something for everyone, if you will--at the scant price of 8.32. now you would think that they would have adjusted for tax and that 8.32 would turn into 9 bucks even, after tax. nope. it was 9.17. so I saw a band for a while, stayed for two drinks, and was out over 20 bucks with tip. that's for two beers made on premises. everyone was nice. the place was clean and the seating was comfortable. We had such high hopes for this place from the pictures and reviews, but please DON'T GO HERE FOR THE FOOD. The pictures are deceiving bc the kitchen does not serve most of what you see on here anymore. Only hamburgers, hots dogs, and sandwiches. The food was pretty bad and the prices even worse. I got the Tom-E burger which is a play on the tommy burger so it had chili on it, but it was the size of a kids McDonald's cheeseburger and costs $14 with no side. We got the bacon avocado burger which was also $14 and the same size with no side. The chili dog was $8 and looked the same as weinerschnitzel in size and quality. The side of fries were $9!!!! Plus everything we had except the fries was cold. I spent $90 on all that plus two beers. Needless to say, my family and I were still hungry when we got home. This place is also pretty small. Maybe 5-10 tables inside and 4-5 patio tables. The only reason I gave two stars is the live music and kid friendly atmosphere. The staff was nice, but overwhelmed on a Friday night as there was only two people in the whole place to serve you and you had to wait in one line to order food or drinks. Oh and I had to pick up my food myself, no table service which is fine but then they ask for a tip of 15-22% when you close out your bill. I'm not sure how this place has such great reviews, but I'm guessing it's mostly for the ambience and the bar aspect as the food portion was disappointing to say the least. read more

What a great place -- incredible food offerings at this brewery and such an English vibe. I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and didn't expect to see such classic food offerings, Chicken Tikka Masala, bangers and mash, incredible fish and chips. The place has darts and occasionally a live band and a bunch of different beers. I'm not a drinker, so I opted for the pellegrino and water, but it seems that the drinks were solid as people in our party were satisfied. All ordering was at the bar, and the friendly vibe and good food made this place a go to. I'll definitely return to try more of their menu, but if you're looking for an authentic British pub -- definitely come to Yorkshire Square. read more

Located in Old Town Torrance, Yorkshire has been on my "to visit" list for a long time...so I was ecstatic to finally be able to go in my last trip to the Southbay. The food offerings here is probably the BEST I have had at any brewery I've been to. Lots of places have rotating food trucks but the kitchen is in-house at Yorkshire. I tried a variety of dishes and love everything. I loved how the fish & chips was one HUGE piece rather then smaller strips. The batter was perfect with the homemade tarter sauce and slaw. Tikka masala portion was huge, they were very generous with the sauce so we dipped the chips into it. Sausage rolls were made with authentic bangers! As far as beers go...very solid! I enjoyed the red ale the most. I usually opt for flights but sometimes...you already know what you're looking. Other things to note - they offer indoor + outdoor dining and take out. Plenty of parking and spaces to enjoy your food and drink. Customer service here is great. Very friendly and knowledgable folks! Will definitely be back when I'm in the Southbay. I've been coming here for years, well before they changed owners and have been a few times since the change. I never left a review before but in the past it easily would've been 5 stars. First off, I'm happy that project barely decided to keep this place afloat, it's very nice to have proper English beer in the south bay. Which leads to the 3 star review: When I went last time the only English beer they had on tap was the wuthering stout. Which is good, but it's hard to drink more than one of those. They were out of all of the bitters which is what I come for. Thankfully the bartender said they are still making it, but I feel like early doors is the flagship beer of the brewery so they should probably always have some on tap. Now to my main complaint, the new kitchen/menu is just... fine, and really that is me being nice. Mediocre Sysco sandwiches is probably a better way to describe it. The hot honey chicken sandwich uses salad mix lettuce for the topping and the chicken breast is just plain grilled. I feel like 90% of hot honey chicken sandwiches are fried. The fries were decent but came out cold and everything was pretty pricey for what it was. It's nice that they have more variety for people, but the old fish and chips were extremely good and gave us an actual reason to drive the 20 minutes to come down. There is too much good food in the south bay for me to be able to choose a mediocre one to eat at. I understand needing variety, but it would be really nice if they brought back the fish and chips. If there aren't any bitters on tap, and the food is okay at best and not unique all, it's really hard to justify driving all the way down. read more

Hip hip hooray...we found a spot for fish and chips (and really good beer) so traveling to Santa Monica can be a thing of the past! King's Head is great, but the drive isn't and any excuse to not go to Santa Monica is a-okay in my book. Yorkshire Brewery is a charming English pub - it's small but the beer options are mighty and the limited menu is buttoned up with all the tasty offerings of a proper pub. I briefly met the chef and I can tell he's proud of what comes out of the kitchen. YB packs all the conveniences of a hip and popular pub; easy in/out parking, simple to locate and super casual as if you're always stopping in to see old friends. Sure the menu might only be a fraction of other places, but as long as they keep making the delicious fish and chips and bangers and mash you can bet we'll keep YB on our list. The cozy chairs and fireplace will surely be enjoyed during the cooler months...heck you can even dine in the company of the queen - the lifesize cutout is a popular photo op. The restaurant has lots of seating inside and out. We visited on a lazy afternoon so absolutely no crowd and we had our pick of seating. Order at the bar and pick up your food when your device buzzes - only on this day, our super terrific server dropped our food without buzzing us - she explained she wanted the small talk. How sweet is that? I'd say the Peely Blinders were good...though I would have liked much more "Shelby" ingredients...or a smaller portion. Either way, they are much better consumed quickly (when they're fresh out of the fryer) and as long as the "Shelby" is kicked up, they easily go from good to great. Nuclear hot (temperature) fish and chips - crispy and not laden with oil. Easily gobbled every bite. He enjoyed both the fish and chips and an order of bangers and mash - he gobbled the bangers and mash like he did when we were in Bath, England at the tiny pub Coeur de Lion...they were that yummy. TLDR: Good food, sub-par brew. British theme pub. To review Yorkshire Square Brewery, one must take in this particular neighborhood of Torrance called Old Town Torrance. Though it's not a "beach town," Old Town Torrance has as much appeal or more than nearby Redondo Beach itself in some key aspects. For example you're not likely to run into tourists like at beach towns. The droves of people clogging up traffic from flyover places. Next there is a parkway that runs through it, much like Ashland Avenue in Park Ridge, IL -- a giant parkway that feels like a field, lined by turn of the century homes, in Torrance they mid century. A Small but tight knit brisk retail presence in the middle of town, right next to Honda of America's HQ. There are approximately 20+ breweries in the 9 mile radius of Old Town. Yes, even that famous Japanese Brewery, Kirin has a spot off of Western and Torrance, though it's just a corporate office that oversees US operations. But in it's heart, off Van Ness there are two ... Yorkshire is the better out of the two. Their shtick is a British themed pub, which works in terms of their food, but fails on the actual brew. Drinking their IPA, you're going to beg for more hops, their other ale is more hoppy which was weird. read more

I had the best fish & chips here that I've ever had, and fish 'n chips are my favorite from childhood! The fish batter was crispy fried, not doughy, and stayed on the fish instead of just sliding off; chips well-cooked, yummy tartar sauce, delicious coleslaw with a bit of apple in it (maybe?). This was hunt for an awesome new burger weekend and I found a WINNER! I ordered the BBQ bacon and that was one juicy burger cooked just right. I liked the fact that the sauce wasn't overly sweet like some places that slop cheap bottled BBQ sauce all over their burger. My son gave me a taste of his Stout onion and this also had a tasty sauce that had just the right degree of sweetness to it. The brioche buns were nice and fresh. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is because my wife's fish & chips were skimpy for the price. The one piece of fish was rather minuscule compared to the pictures seen on Yelp. The service was excellent. Very friendly on the phone and at the counter when I arrived for pick up. Now that outdoor dining has resumed, I'd love to bring the dogs and have a few brews with some food. It's been a while since I've actually been able to eat out in the South Bay. This place is a hidden gem~ Love the quiet atmosphere and the old shop vibe. My BF and I ubered here to grab some beer. The atmosphere is old-fashioned with brown/wooden interior and garden like outdoor seating. It was quite chilly outside so glad they had a fire pit/standing heater. We got the Dirty Leads Brown Ale and Sheeplechase Nitro for beer. The brown ale was oaky, but light with rich flavor, nitro stout was creamy, but abv was low so it was on the lighter side. I used to come for the fish & chips on a regular basis. Not sure what happened with the new ownership, but something changed in the recipe. The fish was not as crispy, lacked flavor, and not as juicy as previous versions. In my experiences, it used to be served as one piece with "proper" chips (need to ask for this or you get regular french fries). I may give it one more shot to see if it was just a one-off situation. I've been to Yorkshire Square Brewery a handful of times now and every single one of my visits was motivated by a vegan pop-up. Twice for Cena Vegan, twice for Plant Alchemy, and once for Word of Mouth food truck which didn't show up due to truck problems. Since I'm not a big beer drinker, I sometimes took my food to go. But for the times that I wanted to enjoy my food right away, I've tried the Brown Stout or Brown Ale. I wasn't really feelin' either of them but like I said, I'm not a big beer drinker. Then one Sunday, I discovered the Beermosa made with orange juice and Golden Ale. So here's what impressed me about the Beermosa...when I ordered it, the bartender reached into the mini-fridge, pulled out an orange, and hand-squeezed fresh juice right into my glass! Looking for a place to have some beers since we didn't want to end the night yet. This place was awesome, Saul and chase were great!!! They even have a free beer flight if it's your bday and it isn't like any other brewery these are huge!! They have heaters and big tables to accommodate groups. We weren't able to try the food since the kitchen was close. Chase even played a trivia game with us and gave us a cool pin that each of the workers have. Will definitely go back and try more beers and food. It was kinda hard to spot it since they didn't have a big sign or anything but it's right next to 3355. Will recommend!!! read more
