Friendly staff and great matcha! It lives up to its popularity and is definitely worth the wait. The matcha color is a vibrant, dark green and was not gritty at all. The tart from the raspberry worked beautifully with the sweetness of the vanilla and umami from the matcha. The cafe is open and you can see the baristas measuring and hand whisking each drink.

If you like matcha and don't mind street parking and a potential line, this is the place for you! I went in and it was busy, but the line moved at a good pace. I ordered the strawberry matcha drink with almond milk and it was good, but it was more of a matcha latte with a hint of strawberry. I think if it was a little stronger on the strawberry I'd have enjoyed it more. The service was quick and to the point (ie no simple pleasantries), there was seating but I would say it gives quick seating vibes. Overall I'd go back but I'd probably try a different drink.

I kept seeing Project Matcha all over TikTok, and so many locals recommended it too, so I had to check it out! The café has such a cool, calm vibe. The line was long (which I expected), but it moved surprisingly fast. The girls behind the bar were incredibly sweet and honestly made the experience unforgettable. We told them we were visiting from Orlando, and they went out of their way to share their favorite local spots with us. That kind of kindness really stood out. And of course, the matcha was a 10/10. Definitely worth the visit and I can't wait to go back again!

I go to Project Matcha all the time, I'm obsessed with their drinks. I'm not sure how I've never left a review for them before. They're always busy, and typically have a line out the door, but they work through the line relatively quickly, so I never feel like I'm waiting a super long time.

I visited on a weekday afternoon with some friends. There was a small line. The interior is bright and airy with seating and tables. The vibes are reminiscent of ROK in Los Angeles. We tried a variety of drinks and they were all delicious. All of the advertised flavors came through. Honestly, I have no notes. The workers were also friendly and worked efficiently to get the long lines moving. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area!

Good quality matcha and unique flavor combinations. However, I don't think all matcha flavors are made equally and it really depends on what you get & what milk type. I would recommend dairy milk if you can handle it as it tastes much better than the non-dairy in my opinion. The inside is very aesthetic but not the best place to hang as it gets guys quickly.

This place is so cute, perfect for catching up with a friend or two. I wouldn't recommend taking a big group. There are tables inside and outside which is nice. The line was a decent length, but they moved quickly. I got the raspberry matcha and the raspberry was delicious. I am excited to go back and try the strawberry. The matcha was good but not the best I've had. I'd still go back here!

Very average unfortunately. I had been waiting to try this spot for awhile and maybe I hyped it up too much in my head but the matcha itself was pretty underwhelming. I ordered an iced matcha (unsweetened) with whole milk. The staff was great, friendly, and knowledgeable and were super speedy. One employee makes your drink for you while the other checks you out at the register so it's a very efficient process despite how busy they always are.

Project Matcha is good, but I don't think I would wait in line for 45 min again. Portland is in her matcha craze, and Project Matcha is the popular girl in high school. With the recent opening of their second location, there is a Project Matcha no matter what side of the river you're on. Although this does not negate the lines! Despite being insanely busy, all the employees were extremely friendly and answered questions without annoyance. I got the ube latte with a shot of matcha and it was good! The ube was not too sweet and paired well with the matcha, which was strong and unsweetened. Prices are steep imo, but that is not surprising (in this economy?!). There are other matcha places I like better in Portland, but I was glad to have tried them! I would come back though, just not on a weekend.

Pretty good matcha in a solid spot, very convenient around many restaurants and shops. Not many comparisons for us in Portland, but we do have favorites in Seattle. Perfect for before or after a meal (or even just for a walk). We tried to stop by before lunch reservations and the line was insane, so we came back after eating and it cooled down. Milk substitutions are priced in, which is always nice for matcha. Line moves pretty smoothly. Some seating available, but taking drinks out to the street for a nice walk is fun too. Banana Cream Matcha - not our favorite banana matcha, but it's pretty good. Banana flavor was present yet not overwhelming of the matcha. Banana tends to be pretty strong so the ratio here is amazing. Matcha quality is high, whisked well and very smooth. Grassy undertones mixed with sweet banana make this a solid first impression. Double Matcha - for the matcha fanatics, this combines a matcha latte with a matcha cream top and both are delicious. The cream top is smooth, a bit thick, and extremely flavorful. Concentrated matcha in the small layer resting on top help wake the taste buds. Visiting project matcha for a double matcha just makes sense.

honestly the best matcha i've had in portland as a tourist! love the girlies working here! they were so sweet and so quick with it like matcha was done right away literally as i'm paying!!! i got the banana matcha! banana flavor is fresh and light and still mixes well with the matcha the toffee bits adds some texture and sweetness -crunch with every slip decor inside is so cutesy too with the florals and designs

There was a very long line when we got there, but I felt like the line doesn't move too slowly. There's not a ton of seating here, so it's more of a grab-and-go kind of place. I ended up getting the coconut matcha cloud twice because the combination was so delicious and refreshing. The matcha quality here is really good. I wished I was visiting longer so that I could've tried more of their drinks! I highly recommend this place. The vibes were fantastic and staff were very friendly too.

I've been here 2 times now. My first experience was below average due to a two hour total wait and then they made an announcement they will only serve matcha latte and nothing else on the menu. That first time, my matcha drink had too much milk. They were so slammed I think they were trying to get drinks done as fast as possible? Decided to come back another time when the hype dies down a bit. I did have a better experience the second time! I got the matcha einspanner. I thought it was a good balance of matcha, milk and sweetness. The interior is very nicely decorated. It gave minimalist vibes. Seatings are limited. Tried this spot a couple weeks ago & didn't wait long since we were second in line. The cashier was extremely nice & sweet. Drinks were SO delicious & the atmosphere was great too. Went to their soft opening on Friday the 18th. It was super busy and I waited around 45 mins for my drink once I ordered, but I think it was definitely worth the wait. I got a Banana Cream Matcha and loved it! This will for sure be a place I come back to, but probably when it's slower. The Double Matcha looked so good as well as the panna cottas so I think that's my next order. Also, shout out the workers they were hella grinding at the bar making drinks nonstop. read more

The drinks are watered down with too much milk and filled with about 80% ice. They also skimp on the matcha, clearly cutting corners to save on ingredients and maximize profit. Service is slow, and staff prioritizes serving their friends over following a proper first-come, first-served system, which causes ridiculous wait times. I gave this place two chances, hoping for improvement, but it's only gotten worse. They're clearly trying to mimic popular LA matcha spots like Stagger or Community Goods but fall short in quality and service. To top it off, the staff never leaves the counter to clean up, so the tables and chairs are often left dirty. read more

Some of the best and most unique matcha yet! Only downside is the long wait, at least 30 minutes. I think it would be great if the store could send text alerts when your order is ready so the shop isn't so crowded with customers. There was a pretty constant stream of people coming in. This negative review is specifically for the cashier girl with glasses. A few of my friends and I ordered several milk teas at your shop. Some wanted sugar, some didn't, some wanted less ice, and some wanted more ice. The cashier with glasses became very impatient and even a bit unfriendly after hearing this. As a service staff, such an attitude was very disappointing for first-time customers. Therefore, I have to write this negative review. The other two tea-making staff were very attentive, so we gave them a tip, but we don't want to go there again; we don't want to see that cashier's cold face again. read more

I was really excited to try this place, so I left pretty disappointed. The atmosphere was kind of a letdown and it didn't feel very clean. When I walked in, there was no line but a girl hanging out with her friend who quickly ran to the front to take our order and didn't even acknowledge us and made it feel awkward and unwelcoming. The service felt disorganized, and it didn't seem like the person making my drink really knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, my matcha was probably the worst I've ever had. I'm honestly really sad about it because I had been looking forward to coming here. I think this place has potential, and I might've had a much better experience if the service and drink-making were handled differently. read more

Alright, I'll acknowledge the matcha is damn good. The owners are young GenZers that knew what they were doing. Inside is stunning/simple, great assembly line work in the matcha making process, and clearly well done and ceremonial grade matcha. That being said, my vanilla matcha (the einspanner) was much much sweeter than expected, and I wanted to feel more of the matcha. I'd get a different drink next time, but my other current complaint is just quite frankly the line. It's all the hype right now and GOOD FOR THEM FRRRRR, but I don't have 45 minutes in my day to wait for this good matcha. I'm just a working girly. I'll try to find time maybe later in the day to feel it out again. Wish I could do 4.5 stars bc the matcha hit but the line didn't. read more

Very disappointing. I came twice and the shop wasn't open during the stated hours. The third time, I arrived at 3:30 PM, and the staff told me the shop was already closed even though the sign out front clearly says it closes at 7 PM. I drove for half an hour to get here. Such a waste of time. You really need to fix your opening and closing hours. read more

Was really excited to try out this place when I heard it was opening. I'm just recently getting into matcha, and Project Matcha has taken the cake so far. I went on a Saturday morning with a friend and waited about 40 mins. We were expecting the employees to be stressed beyond all measure with such a high caseload. However, when we got to the front of the line, we were met with the friendliest people! Kaitlyn spent intentional time with us and asked us about our day when taking our orders. Service was speedy in getting drinks out to us too! Inside, there are a few tables that fill up fast, so most people are taking it to go, but it is ADORABLE and has a great ambiance. Cute place! It just opened, so it is very busy. Fast service and the drinks are good. Lots of different drink options and milk choices. They also have lots of desserts, although we didn't try them this time. The matcha brownie looked good though. If you're going anytime soon, expect to wait a bit for a drink until they aren't as "new"; wouldn't recommend going for a quick stop before work or lunch break. read more

Saw soo many reviews and recommendations on tiktok and reels so i wanted to go there for soo long,finally tried it ,when i arrived there are parking spots in front which is rare for downtown,i ordered 3 drinks one of them was lavander blueberry which was disgusting tasted like straight up lavander with water,although the other matchas were fine i don't understand the hype,the full cup is filled with ice and there's barely any matcha,the cup is so small and i feel like its overpriced,the service snd the workers are very nice and sweet tho and we got our drinks in five mins or less read more

I haven't even tried their matcha but every time I check the internet to see it's open I go an BOOM it's closed. Like is it that hard to prepare the stuff before??? SO GOOD. We got a bunch to try It's crowded right now/long line but hopefully it will die down. My only complaint are the hours. I honestly wish it was like 9-3 instead of 11-7, especially because of the caffeine matcha has? But cute place and really good drinks. There were tons of kids screaming and at times it was difficult to tell where the line really was. After about 5 minutes of the line not moving, I started to get a slight headache from the noise and we agreed we would have to go somewhere else. It was probably for the best as all the indoor and outdoor seating was full so there would have been nowhere for us to eat even if we had braved the line. I think when a business reaches this level of popularity, it's important to put systems in place to keep patrons from feeling crowded and overwhelmed and it's definitely something they might want to look into in the future.

Word is already spreading fast, and people are eager to get a taste of what Project Matcha is serving up. But let me tell you: it was worth every minute of the wait. Every sip of their matcha is pure perfection. The quality is undeniable--vibrant, smooth, earthy, and never bitter. It's the kind of matcha that instantly makes you slow down and savor. Even though it was just a soft opening, everything ran smoothly. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about their craft.
