Easily one of the trendiest bars I've been to. Walked in and just found this bar online not really knowing what to expect. We just were looking for somewhere to go out. To our surprise, this place was AWESOME. Firstly the aesthetic inside was so cool - there was so much to take in. There were ton's of plants all over the place, and seating with mixed between floor seating and some seating on an elevated platform. Not to mention the bar seating too. We went on a late Friday night so it was fairly packed. We ordered drinks still pretty quickly at the far. There was such an awesome selection of mezcal based cocktails which are my all time favorite. See the photos! They're mouth watering and self explanatory. I unfortunately don't remember the names of the cocktails but they were all great. They also change their drink menu around from time to time (I think...) read more

Propagation had me feeling like I was sipping my rum cocktail in a jungle. As suggested by the name, a variety of plants intertwined the inside of the building, providing a very beautiful and natural interior design. Drinks were very flavorful and strong - always a plus! I can't wait to come back here with friends. While it's a bit small on the inside, there is plenty of seating and lounge spots to relax and hang out with friends or a date. read more

Hidden speakeasy in nob hill w/a wide assortment of cocktails and lots of open seating. Came here spontaneously on a Wednesday night, happened to also be happy hour, which gives $12 cocktails instead of $15 on some items (not the best happy hour I'd say). Definitely a unique bar worth checking out if you're looking for a very chill, lowkey night with friends (or maybe for a first/second date). NOTE: if you are lost, the storefront doesn't say propagation very clearly, I believe it looks sort of like a plant shop/laundromat from the outside. My friends and I tried out the Thriller Spiller Filler, which was delicious (and very picturesque) but definitely on the sweeter side. Would probably try a different one next time! read more

Went there on a Friday night and there was only one bartender. We waited patiently for her to take our order. She was so incredibly and unnecessarily rude and passive aggressive. No one rushed or got impatient with her. But she was just awful. Why would you employ someone who doesn't like people and likes to just be rude to people for no reason. Honestly ruined an other wise great spot for us. read more

I want to give this place another try. I came on a Tuesday night and it was painfully slow. The space is actually kinda small, I think it's because of the decor which I loved but it made it feel tight. The ambiance was very dark, moody, jungle vibes. It had a date vibe to it cuz there are little nooks all over the place. The place super hidden so at first we couldn't really see it, but it's on the corner. The service was bare minimum. The bartender didn't try to make conversation or have any interest in talking to anyone besides the gentlemen at the bar. It seemed like there were only 2 people working, with no table service, so you have you go to the bar to get a drink. The drinks were good though. I loved the glasses and we all tried something different. I think I liked the Gardener's Daughter the most. I'm not usually a gin person but it was really good. I would give it another chance, I'll just go on a better night and hopefully have better service. read more

One of the best at what they do. A bar like this doesn't need to entertain you with food options. This is the before and after location based solely from their above-average drink selections. Getting lost in the jungle of a lounge they have and being prescribed the perfect libation by their talented bartenders is enough to keep you for a couple rounds. My favorite neighborhood cocktail bar in SF! I came here for the aesthetics but stayed for the drinks. I'm usually not a huge fan of alcohol, but the cocktails that I tried (Summon the Revival and Thriller Spiller Filler) were amazing. The space is intimate and cozy as well as overflowing with plants. They have couches and armchairs as well as tables and bar seating. It's not too loud inside so you can still get a conversation in. The service was great and the bartender was so helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend for drinks after work or a date night! read more

Of all the many bars and options in San Francisco Propagation is by far my favorite. Love supporting small businesses who pours their whole heart into a bar built with love. Every drink is made with so much effort, decorations is superb and changes with theme depending on which holiday seasons. The vibe is relaxing and personal and all from any background are welcome. Bar is super clean, bartenders are nice, skilled and friendly. You can even bring your pets! There was some holiday specials drinks on the menu, I had the Christmas in July and Santa lives here and they were both so yummy! Definitely the perfect place to meet with friends or even some alone time after a long day. Paired with the perfect surroundings of plants, yummy drinks and peaceful happy vibes this place is a gem!! read more

Thought this was a plant store at first and thought it was odd that it was open late at night. But when we heard the music we decided to pop in. I love the small cozy feeling of the bar, looking at the plants and they play good music! People didn't start showing up more until after 11 or so on a Saturday night. Drinks are decently priced. Next time I'm up in SF I definitely want to stop by this place again. read more

One of SF's most unique cocktail spots. It's a nice place for a laid back date or just a boozy night out. It's like drinking in a flower shop or fancy garden, there are plants everywhere. It's fun, welcoming, and offers shade from nosy neighbors. We came after the sun was down, and I'm not sure a single light was on in this place. It was probably the darkest bar we have ever visited. The large windows let the street lights shine in to provide ambiance. For drinks, we tried an apple of my rye and another, we didn't get the name, but it was an irish coffee variation with a salted whipped cream topped with pistachios. The apple of my rye was a tasty treat, well balanced and sippable. The coffee drink was good, but the cream was not, it tasted way overchurned, more like a stick of butter on top. After scooping it out, the drink underneath was quite good. Definitely a solid spot for a fresh experience. read more

This store is so so cute! If you want planty vibes, go to Propagation. Plus, they actually do sell plants, I think--they're giving some away for Thanksgiving, at least! The people who worked there were cool, lots of seating, chill indie alternative type music, and the drinks ran the gamut of flavors! The How Things Were & How They Are had cold brew, salted cream, and pistachio, which was mostly tasted, but the cream layer seemed a bit too thick? Like I was just drinking cream for the first few sips and it was a lot. My friend enjoyed hers less than I did, but overall, I thought it was good! The Pinkie's Up was very refreshing, as were all of the other fruitier drinks that my friends ordered. Overall, great experience, would come back! read more

Super fun plant bar that I found through tik tok. Came with some friends on a Saturday during the day. It wasn't too crowded, we were able to have our own little private corner with chairs. They have tasty and unique drink options here too! When I came I got the pistachio drink which was super good while my other friends got some of the other drinks on the menu which also did not disappoint. Price point was a bit expensive but I expected that given they were all specialty cocktails. Side note - this place is great for photos!! read more

Great find! In the area with time to kill while waiting on a red eye flight. Searched up nearby cocktail bars and this was a suggestion. What a great find! The staff, bartender were gracious and kind. But you go to a bar for the drinks right?? Well..... BINGO! This place hit the jackpot! Tried a few different drinks by the suggestion of the bartender. This is a very inviting cocktail bar with signature cocktails, friendly bartenders and an area full of plants and botanical wonders that are soothing to the eyes and a calming yet freshness to this bar. Came here last night (Wednesday after Valentine's Day) for a night cap around 9:00. The place was pretty empty with only two tables sat. We were greeted by friendly Bartenders and got a seat on the couch. They have late night happy hour from 8;00-10:00 for selected drinks for $12. I got a coffee cocktail and my boyfriend got a $7 shooter. My cocktail was super flavorful but seemed kinda small considering the shooter was only a bit smaller. The inside is cute and cozy but darker than I expected. Some of the music they played didn't seem to match the relaxed environment so we decided not to stay for a second drink. Overall it's a cute place with good looking cocktails. Would consider coming back here if I'm in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

I was here on Monday night. The service was normal but I gave them 20% tips as I always do. The thing is I just found out that I was charged 4% of credit card fee, I was so upset because nobody told us. Also I've been to many bar but this is never happened before. At least if you want to charge customer for that you should put it on the menu so they can make a choice. read more

aesthetic: 5/5 food: 5/5 service: 5/5 to my fellow plant parents out there, the plant-filled propagation is the perfect cocktail bar for you!! love love LOVED everything about this cocktail spot!! my friend and i came here on a thursday night and we were seated right away (def could expect the wait to be longer on a weekend/fri night given how hip this place is) as for drinks, my friend got the "thriller spiller filler," and i ordered the "summon the revival." as someone who normally has to water down her cocktail with 1-2 cups of ice lol, that wasn't the case here - my drink was very light, yet fruity, sweet, and refreshing. given that my drink hit my ideal taste profile spot and that i did not have to water it down for the first time ever, "summon the revival" is the best cocktail i've had and i'll be back regularly for this!! absolutely get this drink if you're not a fan of alcoholic-tasting beverages. also shoutout to the bartenders who let us snack on the pineapple/fruit garnishes - you are the best!! with the cute tropical ambiance, friendly and attentive service, and bomb drinks (+ happy hour deals from 8-10pm) here, propagation is a must-visit bar in sf!! read more

This cocktail bar should be on the top of everyone's list to visit next! Amazing ambiance and wonderful seating arrangements all around this cocktail bar. The plants and foliage demonstrate love and care which also shows up in this places' inventive cocktail list. Came here around 9pm on a Saturday night and to my surprise it wasn't all that busy. Not only was he friendly and welcoming, but he took the time to explain some of the history of the bar and recommend several tequila-based cocktails that turned out to be fantastic. His knowledge and customer service were so good that I specifically looked for him on my next two visits. The views at Cityscape are incredible, with different perspectives of San Francisco depending on which side of the bar you're on. Yes, the drinks are on the pricier side, but between the quality, atmosphere, and unbeatable views, they're well worth it. One thing I really like is how easy it is to visit. Just walk into the Hilton Union Square, head to the elevators, and go straight to the 46th floor--no check-in or hassle required. A big shoutout to Jose for making every visit memorable. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.

I'd estimate that the standard spirit serving is a half pour here. My old fashioned (it has some other name on the menu) was half the glass and tasted watery. My partner ordered a frozen drink and it was served in a champagne glass, and so I assume it was 80% water since ice has a larger volume than liquid water. Decor is a cool idea, it's an island plane crash with LOST vibes. But not interesting enough to save this dreadful experience.
