The bar is located in an old coin laundry building off Post street right on the border of the Lower Nob and the TL. The SF Coin Laundry signage is actually still on the building. It's not much to look at from the outside, but once you go inside, it's like a different world. Never judge a book, y'all! My friends and I had a wonderful time here. We loved it so much that we literally stayed for almost 5 hours! We were in our own little world just enjoying the amazing drinks and vibes. Speaking of drinks; they are simply incredible. Unique cocktail combinations with interesting names that are strong and absolutely scrumptious! This is precisely how I'd describe their drink game. Plus, they ain't so bad to look at either. Who am I kidding?! These dranks are friggin' gorgeous! Kinda lost count on how many drinks that we actually tried.... which should be totally understandable given that we were there for 5 hours. BUT... I don't recall one drink that I didn't like. Loved them ALL! There is honestly something for everyone to enjoy. The bartenders are all super cool and laid back. Propagation is a garden-centric bar on a corner in the Lower Nob Hill neighborhood. When you walk in you will see all the plants no matter where you look. I seated myself in the corner seat at the bar to hang out for the evening. My first drink was the hoity toity ($15) which is their house Manhattan and it was a strong and good drink. My second drink was the heavens to Betsy ($15) which is their house sazerac and I really liked it as well. If you like houseplants and cocktails, this is the bar for you! The greenery ambience is unique and feels like you're enjoying a nightcap in the jungle. The bartender was lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. They directed me to several cocktails that perfectly met my palate's expectations. We visited Propagation early in the evening on a weeknight before dinner, and there were definitely other patrons, but it didn't feel too busy. However, it was pretty dark in there, so prepare to bust out your cellphone flashlight. Every time I come here it seems to get busier but even if you have to stand, the service is pretty good. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu and while it might be hard to decide if you like the drink due to some of the ingredients, I would highly recommend trying something from the menu. read more

As a person who goes out 3-4 times a week I'd love a cute little spot to start the night out or enjoy libations a a cute first date spot owned by women but unfortunately I just can't do it at propagation. Cute, nice staff, good service and populated but not too much.. so what's wrong? Those drinks I don't know what it is. It's not a particular bartender, doesn't matter what drink on or off the menu they are just bad. It's like someone took all their booze, watered it down and served it through a shoe. I won't go on but test it yourself. Order your favorite drink and give it a taste. My defacto test is a vodka-soda. Hard to mess up unless strong or weak - theirs is just .. off. Went here with friends and was treated incredibly poorly. The bouncer was performing theatrics outside to make the place look busy, which was already off-putting. Inside, after ordering $100 in drinks, a clearly drunk girl blocked the bar and put her hand over my drink -- completely inappropriate. When I politely asked her to move, her friend accused me of having "bad energy" and complained to staff, who wouldn't even let me explain. Lots of fake smiles and no respect. Propagation is nestled in one of SF's less-frequented neighborhoods, but it's worth the journey. Our bartender was so fun to talk to and offered some great recommendations, particularly after asking what was dairy-free. We chatted about some of our favorite cocktails to make and compared notes from bartending in the past. The drinks were so delicious and unique, and honestly fairly priced. We were the only ones inside until around 5:30, when the place filled up out of nowhere. The one thing I wish they had was more seating (particularly chairs with a back) but that's really the only thumbs down I can give! Absolutely love the ambiance here! Every area of the bar is surrounded by a variety of plants with an abundance of seating area. Other than the bar itself, they have couches and stools scattered throughout the indoors. My friend and I came on a weekday night so it was pretty empty - they have security once it got later in the evening which is nice considering the neighborhood. This place has been on my list for a while but it didn't live up to my expectations. While it does have a nice ambiance, I agree with some of the reviews that the service is not good. It took a long time to get acknowledged at the bar -- even without other customers and once the bartender did acknowledge us, she was unwelcoming and rude. When we did get our drinks, the presentation/taste was good but the candied orange smelled like gas (likely from the butane) that I had to throw it out. Not worth the wait, too many other bars in the area at least with friendlier vibes. read more

As for ambiance, if you love plants, this is the spot for you. The whole bar is covered in beautiful plants, and it feels like you are stepping into some type of jungle. We were able to grab seats on the singluar coach and it was super comfortable and relaxing way to catch up with friends. For the customer service, it was top notch.
