Accidentally stumbled upon this place because I originally was gonna buy my pup's dinner at Ralph's across the street. I didn't think his birthday road trip would go this late but I should've known with California traffic on Fridays. We got ourselves greeted warmly, other patrons in the store are also super friendly so it wasn't stressful for my dog. Obviously the store has a great variety of pet food, from novelty snacks, freeze dried, canned, desserts, all the way to the high end raw nutritious meat. The staff that day, Amanda, kindly walked us through their vast selection, so thank you for that! We decided to go with smaller canned food to stock up and bought a few snacks for the road, but Amanda gave us a free bag of dry topper. So nice of her! Marble was not with me on this journey. But as of now. Here's my review for Protein For Pets. They did not have the blue treat pouch I hoped they would have. They had a red one, and a black one, I did not go too far into the food section. Their brushes looked promising. I ended up getting the Beef Bites Treats by Vital Essentials. I'm very satisfied with the smooth opening and closing of the bag. Better than other treat bags. Better than other treats. Anyways, as I was saying Marble, tried the treats he liked it. He didn't go crazy for it like he does for some other treats. It takes him a second to eat it during training. Overall I may not get another treat from Vital Essentials. And the pricing of it was overpriced. It was $18.31. I see how it's more than others because it's freeze dried raw. But overall I wasn't the biggest fan of it. The toys at Protein For Pets looked like my pup would have a good time. I also saw some chew toys. I was satisfied with that section. But I didn't come for that. So I only glanced at it. There was some good pricing. Like the cat churu look alike it was only ¢99 very cheap. Although I didn't test the product. I'm sure it was good. The birthday cakes. I came to this store in hopes of finding a nutritious food my dog would enjoy. She'd been losing weight and had become fussy with her food. I met Ashley. She took her time with me, and showed me several different cans as well as dry food that had minimal, but healthy ingredients for my dog. Told me what my dog didn't like, I was more then welcome to bring back. Of the few that I purchased, my dog loved the dehydrated turkey. It was her favorite. Purchased the food on Monday, and my dog very much enjoyed it. Sadly, on Wednesday of last week, she went to heaven. I cannot thank Ashley enough for the help and sincerity she provided. Thank you. This is our go to for dog food and treats and been coming regularly since 2016. Love that it's reasonably priced for the quality of food. We usually buy large bag of Fromm and they at least have a loyalty program. They also have a great selection of snacks, toys and cat food. Staff is helpful but not as friendly as before. I don't remember the names but o do miss the prior crew as they always asked about our dog and would invite her in. Also there was always music playing so it added to the atmosphere. The current staff is friendly still just not the sane without the other crew. I do think they need to have at least two people because a couple of times I had to wait about 10 mins to pay while they helped another customer pick out the right type of food and they seemed oblivious to others. Wow! Protein for Pets is the gourmet food stop for cats and dogs! It's a small shop full of fun and exotic treats, be it dehydrated, frozen or refrigerated. The staff are super friendly and very helpful and busy answering phones, helping customers and bagging their in-house dog food. Our dogs are fans of the ziwi lamb treats, beef patty treats and chicken patty treats. The cost though is pricey but for what you get it's worth it. We spent about $90 for three bags of food/treats. The store also has a little over the counter pet medicine area, food storage binnacles and leashes and collars/body harnesses for sale. Definitely recommend stopping in to buy your dog or cat treats as these treats will spark joy! read more

I found out about Protein for Pets since they mailed a flyer (with coupons) to my house. The coupons were $20 Off on purchase of $75 or more or $10 Off on purchase of $40 or more. They just opened the one in Rancho Cucamonga on June 30, 2014 and they have various other locations. They are located in the Ralph's shopping plaza and between the Terra Vista Animal Hospital and the Subway. They only carry pet food that are known to be healthy, natural and contain no wheat, corn, or soy. (e.g. they don't carry Purina, Beneful, or those cheap brands). Their prices of their dry dog food comparable to the price at PetSmart, but the food that you CANNOT find at your regular pet store are a bit on the pricier side, like Primal, Stella & Chewys, and Weruva. I have been a loyal customer since the store opened but lately this place is just ridiculous. I was in two weeks ago and the inventory was so low I could not find anything I needed. Fast forward to this week, AGAIN, no food. I asked the store if they could special order my food and the said No we cannot we have too many special orders. I asked when the food would be available and I was told possibly the next day and I could call to see if the item was in but they are so busy that they would likely not answer the phone to help me. I live near Palm Springs but I am often in Rancho visiting family. I have been to The Naked Dog maybe 2 times prior but only for bully sticks. I rushed in yesterday evening to get some canned pumpkin for my 5 month old Labrador who quickly developed a very upset stomach and was barely making it outside in time. I can't remember the woman's name but I explained to her what was going on and she was so caring. She recommended "Firm Up" which is a pumpkin supplement containing Apple instead of the canned pumpkin. It was more expensive but I didn't feel like she was just trying to get me to spend more money. I took her advice and I am so glad I did!! My puppy woke up this morning and his bowel movements seem to be 100% back to normal! I am so relieved (and I'm sure he is too!).
