I came here with my friend a couple weeks ago and had the best experience! I've come here a couple times before and really loved it, and this visit was no different. We sat at the bar as it was a Saturday evening and pretty busy (note: you absolutely need a reservation here on the weekends). We both got drinks and zeppoles to share and sat at the bar. The drinks were great, we chatted with the bartender, all around it was a great time. I highly reccomend coming here for happy hour in the summers, their outdoor seating is great and the happy hour menu is very well priced. The one downside is that the interior is rather small so going in the winter is a bit of a challange because of the limited seating. read more

Lemme tell you about this Mushroom + Burrata pizza. It was amazing fresh from the oven at the bar. It was amazing after I got through airport security. It was amazing when I was on the plane. Amazing after my flight while I waited for my ride at the arrivals gate. Amazing for dinner the next day. That pizza went through some thangs and it was A1 hot, old and reheated. I STAND. Anyway, spicy Caesar salad wasntttt really spicy but I loved the crunch of the bread crumbs I scraped my plate. It's a little tight inside. Whew everything here was so delicious. We started with an order of the whipped ricotta sourdough bread. I loved the flavor fusion of the oregano, honey along with the rich and creamy ricotta. The ricotta-to-bread ratio was perfect. Every bite of bread came with a sizable spread of cheese. Next, we ordered the mafaldine bolognese pasta. The sauce (made of a pork and beef blend) was elevated by the rich marinara. The pasta and parmigiana both added satisfyingly savory notes to each bite. Our two pizzas (which combined were large enough to feed our party of four adults) included the mushroom-topped "The Big Nick" and the "Cheesy Parisi." The Big Nick was dotted with flavorful mushrooms along with porcini crema and burrata cheese. Every bite is as packed with notes of the earthy mushrooms and the crema. The Cheesy Parisi, on the other hand, was a little more traditional with tangy marinara, mozzarella and tomato -- elevated by strong notes of garlic. I loved the intimate atmosphere inside and the service was great. I hope to return soon to explore more of the menu. read more

This is like Italian tapas, where the food is small plates, except for the pizza, which is very big. We had the octopus, Lasagna, branzino, and burrita. Each has amazing flavors. The table was kind of small for 4 people and all these different plates, but they timed them out perfectly, so everyone was able to enjoy the food. Prunella might be in the running for one of my favorite Schulson spots of all time. Now, it's hard to beat Alpen Rose because that speakeasy vibe is just magical, but there is something special about a corner wine bar pizza spot vibe with all the same 5-star service. On a Sunday night, a friend and I found ourselves in need of a good drink. I did some snooping around online and found that Prunella had plenty of tables available so we made a reservation for 6:30 PM. We showed up 10 minutes early, but we were seated right away. Our server, Justin came over to give us a tour of the menu, make recommendations for ordering, and to see if we were ready to place a drink order. I requested an espresso martini, he asked if I wanted it dark or light. I love this question! I was not in a creamer mood, so I went with the dark option and was thrilled because that drink was delicious! My friend got the honey fitzgerald and was asked for her gin preference. We love these kinds of questions!!! For food, we ordered two starters and two pizzas to share - the melon and prosciutto, the fresh mozzarella, and the process and the white claw pizzas. The kitchen kindly sent out two additional, complimentary dishes for us to try. The first was the fried squash blossoms, and the second was the spicy caesar salad. We were really in luck because we did consider both options, but thought we might not be hungry enough for all of that food. Another friend decided to join us and he has a nut allergy. Our server was super on top of communicating which items were safe and which to avoid for that friend. After the cocktails were finished, we decided to get wine. At the recommendation of our server we tried the white wine on draft. We loved it and opted for the 'bottle' portion. Justin was very on top of refilling our glasses when they got low. We truly loved every menu item we tried. My personal favorite for the pizzas had to be the white claw. I love a good pesto! The presentation of the melon and prosciutto was stunning, and it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The peaches in the fresh mozzarella were really fresh and the spicy caesar salad had just the right amount of kick. I'm not huge on spice, but I could definitely tolerate this! And those fried squash blossoms... wow! They were incredible. I'd like to think that most things that are stuffed with ricotta are delicious but these were next level. From beginning to end, we were well taken care of by all of the staff. The food was delicious and it came out pretty quickly considering we were watching as the pizzas were being made. Once you step inside, the interior is small but cozy! Seats are limited inside but there are plenty of seats outside. All staff members we interacted with were quite pleasant and we got plenty of water refills! We started with the fried squash blossoms, roasted baby artichokes, anchovy toast, spicy caesar salad, and fresh mozarella. These appetizers were all unique in their own way and honestly, I have to say the anchovy toast was the best. Anchovy gets a bad rep for being too fishy or smelly but paired with the toast and bed of what seems to be vegetables, the textures and flavors really exploded. I have to give props to the roasted baby artichokes too. As for the main course, we got the big Nick, white claw, and cavatelli. When people think of pizza, they think of fast food but these pizzas were definitely elevated. The white claw seems so basic but the addition of basil just gave it that extra oomph. The big Nick was also delicious and the mushrooms complemented it! Neither pizzas were too thin or thick and they were baked to perfection. No dripping of sauce, no flaccid pizza, just a perfect bite each time. I'd love to come back just to try the other pizzas. As for the cavatelli, that was also a delight since the sauce perfectly coated each piece of pasta. The fresh tomatoes added acidity to the sauce and really brought out the flavor of the sauce. Had dinner outside on a beautiful night. This restaurant is situated in the gayborhood with plenty of outdoor seating. The service was friendly and personable. We ordered 3 starters. The fried squash blossom was a crispy creamy dream with the perfect amount of seasoning. A little bit of lemon brightens every bite. The meatballs are flavorful and the perfect texture. It came with a small piece of bread - bit of a stingy bread portion. The roasted shrimp were a bit of a downer, there is a sauce that doesn't quite penetrate the flesh of the shrimp. The shrimp tasted pretty bland as a result and the sauce felt like an afterthought. This came with two big chonks (yes chOnks) of delicious bread. Made the bread portion of the meatball more obviously skimp. We also ordered 2 pizzas. The zawzeeg was an obvious choice, if only to be able to say the name a half dozen (ok more like two dozen) times. The pizza dough is thin and sags a bit upon pickup so be careful of your toppings skiing off the slope. There is a lot of crispiness at the crust. We also got the Big Nick, a mushroom celebration. It was creamy and unctuous, a surprise contender for favorite part of the meal. Dessert was a lovely olive oil cake with cream, peaches and almonds. Had dinner at Prunella last Friday. The three of us shared a couple of the Spring Fling pizzas and one Kareem the Dream pizza. They were all delicious. These are personal pie sized and the prices are actually reasonable, nothing over $20 like some pizza places in the city. The wine selection is ok, not great but not bad. I loved the ambiance too; I almost forgot this was where the old Zavino used to be. It took a while for the pizzas to come out, but that is expected from any pizza joints. Great experience at Prunella! Located near all the other hustle and bustle on the east side of Broad, parking will be tough and would recommend leaving plenty of time to find parking if deciding to drive in. We had made a reservation online via Resy and they were ready for us with our table when we arrived. Entering in is a little funny, we actually walked into the back entrance upon first arrival and had to find the appropriate entrance around the corner - it's not fully apparent this is the process so just FYI. We chose to sit outside since it was a nice evening out. At first they sat us on the curbside but the table top was too flimsy to hold anything so we asked to be into the structure built on the street side and they were nice enough to accommodate. Once seated, our waitress got our waters right away and then helped us choose a few options to order after we let her know that we're vegetarians. She helped us pick some options and we went with their Cheesy Parisi pizza and their roasted baby artichokes - both delicious and filling! We did leave room for dessert and though not on a formal menu, they had chocolate and vanilla pudding cups which we ordered one of each. This was a nice palate cleanser at the end of our savory meal - sweet and simple. Overall, appreciated the experience and the food. My sister and i went there for dinner before a show the other night. We sat right down at 5:30. The waiter was super nice, recommended a lot of things. When it was time to order, we got 2 appetizers and 2 pastas. The waiter was like "excuse me you're not gonna get pizza?" Almost kind of trying to pressure us into getting more food. We said we were good. As we were about to order our third and final round of drinks, he came back and asked if he wanted dessert. We said no and we were probably going to drink our dessert. A couple minutes went by and the drinks never came. One manager came over to our table (with our second round of drinks still half full) and asked if we wanted more drinks. We said we had ordered another round. She then asked us if we wanted dessert, we said we were good we were just gonna get a final round of drinks. She began to make us feel like she wanted us to leave, took our plates and walked away. We then see her walk up to our waiter and another manager and it is clear they begin to talk about us. Behind us 2 bar seats were open. A couple tried to sit down and the manager comes over and says sorry these are reserved. We both thought that was odd for a bar to reserve seats? Next thing you know, a different manager comes up to us and says since we aren't eating we need to go sit at the bar. We had not gotten our third round of drinks at this point. The manager made sure we knew This was not a choice, it was either drink the round at the bar or leave. At this time it is 6:30. Exactly 60 minutes since we sit down. I made this reservation weeks ago and we get 60 minutes to sit at the table? The manager moves us to the bar. Closes out our tab. And thanks us for being "so flexible." He then opens a new tab for us and gives us our drinks. You just abruptly ended our dinner, removed us from our table, and made us now pay for a drink? No apologies for the inconvenience, no comps, nothing. Not only that, but the waiter who had been so nice all night didn't say a word to us. No thank you. Nothing. As soon as we were moved to the bar no one spoke to us. We asked for the check and left. I have been to Prunella a couple times in the past and was just very upset by the way that the management treated us here. I would not recommend going back here anytime soon and would not take anyone visiting here to prunella again. Especially with the pushy staff and small portion sizes. read more

FOOD I've been to prunella at least 3 times now and everything on the menu is truly fantastic. Their pizza is perfect, just the right amount of dough, cheese, sauce, and crispness. My absolute favorite is the white claw (pesto one). Their meatballs are flavorful and the perfect texture. The whipped ricotta is both crunchy and light with balanced flavors. DRINKS Went to happy hour and love their selection. There are usually 2 cocktails and a wine and beer to pick from. Happy hour is daily, including weekends, 4pm-6pm. SERVICE Service at prunella is always excellent. AMBIANCE Indoor and outdoor seating (covered and heated patio). Only restriction is that inside only seats parties of 4 at the largest. You have to call to make a reservation for more and it'll be outside. TLDR: a really enjoyable Italian restaurant in Center City, a little bit of everything with great service. Best mushroom pizza I've ever had! The Big Nick is what it's called. My husband got the Cheesy Parisi, also delicious. His was a little softer, bordering on neopolitan style, while mine was slightly more charred and held up. I don't have a single bad thing to say about mine. I wish his was more firm, but if neopolitan is what they're going for I guess that's on me. It was wonderful to visit Prunella again and check out their new seasonal menu. Love their unique flavors. We arrived at the restaurant around 9:15 pm as we had a prior engagement, but were still seated promptly and received great quality food. Prunella was very good and I'm glad my friend suggested it. It's got an energetic atmosphere, even being seated outside, which we were. Service was good. Our drinks were tasty. We started with the baby artichokes and burrata, both of which were delicious. I loved the sesame balls that accompanied the burrata. The pizza was fantastic. Crisp crust, cheesy, and with good sauce. We also split the budino for dessert. I'm not the biggest fan of budino but my friend liked it. We sat in the outdoor streatery on Sansom Street which was perfect for a nice spring day. Everyone is pretty spaced out so you're not on top of the table next to you. Normally I don't tend to order pizza outside of NY, but this place had great reviews for its small pizza and tapas menu (with GF options). Our server was super friendly and attentive. He was accommodating and provided some good recommendations. I ended up ordering a GF Big Nick Pizza and devoured the whole thing. It was crispy and delicious - crispy is usually the issue and it certainly was not here. My dinner companions thoroughly enjoyed their non-GF pizza as well (also NYers.) We dropped in to Prunella while we were in for a conference and heard great things about happy hour. It did not disappoint. It's small inside, but they've got a great street set up with outdoor heaters, and that allowed us enough space to duck in before they had to give the table away. The staff were very kind, going so far to move a few reservations around to make room in the tables for us to have about 90 minutes before we were in the way. That being said -- don't be like us, consider making a reservation ahead of time. The spicy Caesar salad is as good as they say. We also had the ricotta bread which was a little on the toasty side, but a unique creation. read more

Good food but not family friendly. We went here to celebrate a family member's birthday. We made a reservation online in advance and included a request for a high chair. When we checked in, we again requested a high chair. After we were seated, we asked about the high chair again and were told there was only one and they couldn't find it. After our food came, the manger brought us a high chair with a missing safety strap. Our server, who was great, apologized and let us know they don't normally serve kids (no kids cups or children's menu either--which was fine, we brought sippy cups and bottles and our youngest child usually eats off our plate anyway). I wish they would have called when they saw our reservation to let us know they don't have a high chair, or admitted when we checked in with the hostess that they didn't have one, rather than nodding and bringing us to our table. My first time at Prunella for happy hour with a friend was less than ideal, but my return trip for dinner somewhat made up for that experience! During my first visit, the hostess barely acknowledged me on arrival, which was a bummer. I eventually asked where happy hour was served and led myself to a table outside when I learned that was fair game; about 10 minutes later, the hostess walked by and asked me if I was joining for happy hour (I did not have a menu), which was confusing since we had just spoke about it. The server was better than the hostess, but service was a bit lacking (we had to call him over multiple times to take our orders and to ensure they were placed before happy hour ended). At the end of the day, my friend and I enjoyed cocktails and ricotta, both of which were good, but the experience left a sour taste overall. Flash forward a few weeks, and I visited Prunella again with a group of friends from work. We had made reservations indoors, and since I had arrived early, I popped by the bar for happy hour. I was greeted on arrival and easily explained where HH was valid. The interior of Prunella is pretty small, with the bar taking up the majority of the space with seating on the perimeters of the restaurant. Ambience overall is very modern with soft colors, plentiful greenery, and posh vibes. Service at the bar was pretty good, and I was quickly served the Honey Fitzgerald (gin, grappa, lemon), which was refreshing. The server kindly cashed me out so it wouldn't mess with the bill at the table, which I appreciated. Upon reaching our table, that server was also good; we did have to get his attention ultimately for the check, but he was pretty on it for the most part. We enjoyed the whipped ricotta toast (excellent, the crusty bread paired beautifully with the creamy cheese) and the spicy Cesar salad (per Yelp recs; surprisingly good, although the ricotta toast was the standout app) to start. For pies, we split the Kareem the Dream (pear, sausage, thyme) and the White Claw. Both were good, but I was partial to the Kareem the Dream for the unique pairing of flavors! Not the *best* pizza I've had in the city, but I appreciated the variety of flavors, crispy crust, and size, and I would definitely come back to try more toppings. Our whole group enjoyed the meal, all confirming that the ricotta toast and Kareem the Dream, as well as the cocktails, were the highlights. Prunella ultimately redeemed itself for me, and I would revisit for happy hour with friends or for a casual dinner. The location is perfect, which makes it enticing, and their HH deals are definitely worth it.
