Pub 42 was a great experience for me and my bride. We stopped here for a dinner on a Friday night before heading to a show down the road. It was busy as there was a local radio station broadcasting from the bar, but one of the nice features of Pub 42 is that they have both bar seating and dining seating. The dining side is a bit quieter, but you can still hear the bustle of whatever is going on at the bar. Not a big deal, though, as my bride and I were able to have a nice conversation. The decor is nice and sleek on the dining side and typical bar decor on the bar side. Our waitress was fantastic - nice, helpful, and accommodating. Though I am usually disappointed with recommendations from the wait staff, this waitress made some great recommendations. If you are looking for a great appetizer, consider ordering the Poke. Is it absolutely fresh? Well, does tuna swim in the shallow lakes of southern Minnesota? No. But the tuna was delicious regardless. The flavors of the Poke were fabulous with a great ginger-soy sauce along with a cucumber relish on the side served with delicious chips and an addictive wasabi cream dipping sauce. The French Onion Gratinee was excellent. I should have stopped there as the Poke and Gratinee were hearty servings. I had the Millonaires Bacon Burger and my bride had the Cubano which were both good and tasty. The burger was served as I ordered it - medium rare (which let's be honest, that's the only way to order a burger!) and it was delicious. The fries that came with the burger were great as well. Good grief! So many words and I haven't even mentioned the drink list. Great selection of beers and drinks as well. Give the place a try! For a recent order, the manager Brian took great lengths to rectify an issue with the online ordering system and made certain I left Pub 42 as a satisfied customer. Over the years, my family has enjoyed the food we've ordered, primarily for take out. Our favorites are the Millionaire's BLT, Bacon Cheddar BBQ burger, and the Rueben. Always with chips--homemade chips beat the bagged variety every time. You may hear about new ownership, and the staff assured me no changes are planned, barring some improvements to facilities. Update: Brian's response to my initial review was very kind and so I am upping the Stars rating. We will definitely try pub 42 again. Brian, thank you for taking the time to respond. It means a lot. They no longer have really good things on the menu like the wonderful chicken and waffles with the Chipotle cherry sauce (I was told the waffle iron had broken) or the butternut squash with sage ravioli. Same old tired menu options. We were there today and one of my friends ordered the grilled cheese ribeye. She said it was just meh. Came with coleslaw, she tasted one bite of the coleslaw and said it was horrible, asked the waitress to bring her something else. They brought her a fruit cup instead and when the bill came they had charged her for it. The waitress (who by the way was wonderful) explained that the restaurant policy was that because a bite had been then she had to pay for the replacement. This is completely ridiculous. She said the coleslaw tasted disgusting and they charged her $2 for the fruit cup. Also, when we first got there we had made our reservations a month in advance and had specifically asked for a particular table. When we got there they told us we couldn't have that table because there were only six of us and so they put two tables together and put us in a different area. The table that we originally wanted sat empty until about 10 minutes before we left. The best thing about our visit was that the waitress was really awesome. I know she felt bad about the fruit cup but she didn't really have any way to fix that if that was not her fault. I am not sure if our small group will ever try Pub 42 again. After eating my first fry, I notice hairs throughout my fries, and looked at my burger, sure enough another. Took about 5 minutes to get our servers attention. Mind you everyone else's food was delivered at the same time. By the time I got new food, everyone was done eating and ready to go (25 MINUTES LATER) Didn't even offer a discount or an apology at that. Eh, it was OK. We've driven by Pub 42 a few times and it always appears to be packed. So we decided to try it out. The interior is pretty relaxed -- kind of a Southern bar theme with lots of rustic wood and such. It's big, I'll give it that. We were seated right away in a booth. Our server was fine. The beer list was OK with at least a few decent options. I got a Crispin, which for some reason came in a humongous pint glass (like way bigger than a normal pint and way bigger than my husband's beer). We got a cheeseburger, which was fine and cooked to my stated preference. It was very clearly a preformed patty that was either frozen or bought in patty form. Very standard. My husband got the fish tacos, which he said were severely over-seasoned. Likewise, the fries were also really heavily salted and seasoned. It's a bar. It's bar food. I get it. But I was literally chugging water all night to try to stop from feeling like I'd eaten a salt lick. Not sure we will be back very soon. read more

Had my husband's 80th birthday at Pub 42. I called and inquired about the private room area as my husband is hard of hearing, and I wanted him to enjoy the family dinner. I found they charged per hour to be in the private room, however the manager was helpful and guaranteed a "quiet" corner. Since it was Cinco de Mayo, I figured the place would be packed! We were shown a nice round( as I had specified) table in the dining room. Just perfect. Our waiter was great and the food was served hot and fresh. Thank you Pub 42. read more

My friends and I have been frequenting Pub 42 (Sunshine Factory before the switch) for the last 5+ years. We come here mostly because I live in the area and it's the most convenient bar to go to. It's usually hit or miss with the servers, but if you want to get good service, I'd highly recommend sitting at the bar. There's usually pleanty of seats because theres A TON of seating, which I love. I absolutely love the bartenders, they always recognize me and my hubs and treat us really well! They're very quick and are always fun to chat with while chilling at the bar! I've eaten hear more times than I can count, but I don't recall single time that i was in love with the food. It's bar food, so totally understandable, but I think when they try to offer 'fancier' options...It just doesn't always taste the greatest. Maybe I'm dumb for always trying it, but a majority of the time...i'm just left feeling 'bleh' about my meal. This last time around I tried their special Seared Halibut with a side of rice and salsa. The tuna was over cooked and the combination of the salsa just tasted odd. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great. I should have just ordered a burger. LOL my husband ordered fries too - which are always good. They have fun activities including meat raffles and bingo night. I'm making my first review because I feel like this has to be said. The service is very good and some of the food is really good but their management is terrible, the manager Vinnie is very rudely sarcastic it seems like towards everyone, the other manager working Jessica is very rude when talking to the employees and just walked off in the middle of their conversation, this is very unprofessional as well as firing good people making minor mistakes. Some of the management that I have seen here is one of the worst I have seen at any restaurant. I feel bad for any of the employees who have to put up with managers like that. After i experienced this I have decided that I will never be returning to this restaurant as I will not support a business who treats its employees with such disrespect. Pub 42 is my go to for lunch. I have never had a bad meal there at all. I go may there about 3 times a month. My favorite is the spicy shrimp tacos. I really enjoy this place and I genuinely love the ambience. I've come here multiple times and i've had multiple great experiences with the service and food. Recently, I had a TERRIBLE experience with a server who did not greet us for about 20 minutes - spoke with the host and brought it up to the manager on duty but even then didn't hear anything from the manager. We got our food and drinks but toward the end when it was time to receive the bills, we waited for ANOTHER 20 minutes. Keep in mind (it wasn't busy) and she had a small section. I decided to just chat with the manager about the whole situation, and he completely dismissed me and didn't even let me explain what happened. Horrible experience. Decent bar food. We got the Cheese curds to start. Gooey cheese curds with a light ale infused batter. The batter is not overpowering. The cheese is well executed. Very gooey but still intact enough to hold together just long enough to bite. Honey mustard is a nice balance to the greasy curds. The blue burger was ok. They cooked to the ordered temperature. But the beef blend was not outstanding and the whole burger lacked an intense flavor that I'd expect from bacon and blue cheese. The bun was OK, though not quite as chewy or flavorful as I'd prefer. I have been coming to this location long before it was Pub 42, for the most part I have always enjoyed their food. Today I ordered the Tree Hugger Grilled Cheese. I added the bacon. Can't find the cheese? Neither could I. Most bites were just bread and the bacon was limp, not crispy. It also appears to be shredded cheese which doesn't seem befitting of a $14.00 sandwich. I always make reservations on OpenTable. Even last minute ones are always honored by other restaurants in our area. We went in for our 615 pm reservation that I made only 20 minutes before and was told by staff that they only check those at the beginning of the night and that they would have to add us to their wait list. This is unacceptable. How can a restaurant not have their reservations linked with OpenTable and use a computer for seating instead of paper. Basically even if you see an open reservation don't assume you can get in.
