I went here with my family on a trip to Keene recently and it was awful. The cheeseburger I had was so poorly done I couldn't eat it - and I'm not the dramatic type who does this sort of thing often. I almost always suck it up and eat food I don't like but I really couldn't here. My mother was charged extra for having gravy on her mashed potatoes and that's just ridiculous. The food was bland or gross, the service was okay, and the atmosphere was nonexistent. I will never go again. read more

Very Poor management. About a month ago I saw a customer back into a large boulder while backing out of a handicap parking space and never gave it another thought until it happened to me, TODAY! I scuffed up the bottom of my bumper quite a bit. I noticed other vehicle broken pieces laying on the ground, surrounding that boulder, so I went back inside to complain to management but was told by employees " that has happened many times and sometimes vehicles get stuck on top of it!" Stay home! It is shocking that the elderly(primary clientele) are served the horrific bland grey food here! My inlaws love this place - I can see why - they can no longer taste or smell and cant see well. Accomodations for the disabled are non existent and the wait is ridiculously long for a half empty restaurant. Horrible service, and the worst are the cooks!! Where do they find them? Dishwashers? My son got an egg sandwich that was served on burnt toast - literally BLACK - topped with a blackened end piece. I sent it back and the server returned with the same sandwich topped with a non end piece of bread - still black on the edges - the bottom piece was the same -the original blackened piece, My son is a special needs young adult - he ate it! My omelet was SWIMMING in water - my husband almost got sick looking at it. We stayed because of the inlaws who had a great time with their unidentifiable plates. The Pub enjoys something of a good reputation in the community, but we're afraid the food is vastly overrated. Take breakfast, for instance: scrambled eggs tell us the cook doesn't know how to prepare basic dishes. The eggs were served dry (with no taste--they need higher quality eggs, clearly). We asked for cheese eggs--that led to a slab of cheese thrown on top of the dry eggs. Ugggh. The home fries were cold and greasy, a most unappealing combination. The sausage was good, the pancakes edible, but we were never served the toast we asked for. Apart from that, our server was friendly and efficient. The restaurant has a decent local vibe and draws crowds, but it looks just a little tired. In some places that might be a plus, but here it's just tired. We've discussed going back, but, seriously, if they can't cook the key ingredients in a meal correctly, we're not encouraged. Hope your experiences will be better. read more

Food was great. Very long wait times. Would have done at least 4 stars but the girl who took our name to be seated was very rude. She took the couple in front of us their name and after turned and walked away with no "excuse me" or "I'll be right with you" and left me standing at the desk for several minutes from returning from outback. Also in the waiting area there several electrical cords hanging from signs by the bench and a few people kept tripping or hitting them because the cords were just lying there in the way. read more

This place is a go to place for a weekend brunch. Always busy. The food is mediocre but you get what you pay for. Service is good in the mornings. If you come any time after breakfast the service is poor. Saw a waitress blow her nose into a tissue and continue to pour drinks with out washing her hands. The Pub Ralston St Keene, NH Good morning, I am writing to give you a detailed account of my experience at your restaurant on Saturday night, January 30. Our party of 6 arrived on time for our 6:30 reservations, hungrily anticipating a fun evening. We were led through the main dining room toward our table, only to find it was still occupied. We were left to stand in the hallway, until we were asked to stand somewhere else because we were in the way. 20 minutes later we were told that we could be seated at a table for 4 if we wanted to sit down, as it was clear that our table was still not ready. I said to the hostess as we were being squeezed into a small table that we should be given free appetizers because of this. She laughed, but then realized that I was not joking, and then said she'd see what she could do. A large table became available about 10 minutes after we sat down. The bus boy started cleaning it, but went on to something else before he finished wiping it off. While we waited for our waitress, we decided to move to the large table and clean it ourselves (the bus boy left his towel on it). When the hostess finally came over to us, I don't remember exactly what was said, but her reply to us all was that we only waited 8 minutes, so 'that's not too bad'. It was now 7:15 pm. We finally ordered beverages and our dinner. The salads were brought out, but my dressing was served to me with a hair on it. When the food finally came out, our waitress brought only 4 entrees to our table, which still had all the salad plates on it. It was another 8 minutes before the other two entrees were brought out. The remaining side dishes, French fries, rice, etc. were brought out bit by bit, one or two at a time, with the last vegetable arriving as Annie was finishing her entrée. Poor Bill never did get his baked potato, but he eventually did get a steak knife, even though by then he had eaten half of his steak. By the time we were done with dinner, we had gone over all the wrongs of the evening, and did laugh about it all because it wasn't just one little thing, but so many things. All this might have been sort-of acceptable if the food was good, but it was far from special, tasteless and poorly presented. Clearly there was no one watching the dining room, or had the sense to tell the bus boy to be sure to get a big table cleared asap so we could sit at a proper sized table. No one knew enough to send out all the food at the same time, or to give steak knives when needed, or keep an eye on the water glasses! Management never offered anything by the way of a free appetizer or complimentary desert, nor did they apologize for anything. The service was good, but the food was really subpar. The coffee was see through. The scrambled eggs were undercooked and runny, the sausage was the cheapest food service grade meat, and to top it all off, we found a hair in our home fries. Service was fantastic however the food was a joke. I ordered the fried whole belly clams and fried scallops. The clams were soggy and breading falling off. And the scallops were not cleaned. Excellent service. Reservation was made for 11:15 and was seated at 11:45. The food, absolutely delicious. The most appetizing part of my meal was discovering a hair half way into my egg sandwich that only took 30 minutes to make. Avoid this place! I went there on Father's Day (along with three others) and we're all sorry that we did. I don't think they have anyone in the kitchen who even comes remotely close to knowing how to cook! All of our dishes were poorly prepared (overdone) and had little by way of taste. The fact that they were not only all dried out when placed on the table but weren't even warm is inexcusable. The place wasn't all that busy at the time that we were there, either. We weren't aware of how low others had rated The Pub before we went there (and this experience made it very clear why checking with Yelp is a good thing to do before you head out to eat. Had we been aware of the low rating that The Pub had earned for itself, we would have never gone there. And I'm actually surprised that the rating isn't lower). Went for breakfast waffles based partly on the web site statement that you could buy real maple syrup for $1.75 and "take home the rest." Was presented with a tiny plastic covered cup, probably about three or four tablespoons, not enough to cover the waffle let alone take any home. When I asked about it I was told my option was to purchase another cup for another $1.75. Waitress said she never uses it on her own waffles because "it's not enough." Really a downer and if you go for the waffle be prepared to pay a lot more for real syrup or use the cheap stuff. Won't return. Stuart and John's Sugar House up the road toward Walpole has waffles just as good and provides a pitcher of maple syrup at no additional cost (tho the waffles are more expensive.) I'd rather pay more for a waffle and have enough syrup than go through this. read more

Order from here all the time today when I went to pick up my food it was wrong, no big deal it was busy and a simple fix. However the manager came to me and was INCREDIBLY rude telling me it was my fault and that I ordered my order wrong. However I explained to her that this is not the case and I had ordered correctly and that it was a mistake in their part, her response to me "well I didn't ring it in so" extremely rude over something that really wasn't a huge issue. I am appalled that someone would speak this way to a customer, as a server myself I can't imagine ever having the type of disrespectful tone that this woman had with me. Kind of stinks that I'm the first to write a review of the Pub and to give a bad review, but whatever. I remember quite a few years ago when I moved to Keene, everyone raved about the Pub. I went there a few times for breakfast and I remember it being good. But then I kept going back for lunch and supper and I was not really impressed. The lunch and supper menu tastes like I could have made it myself. When you go to a restaurant, you want it to be special - better than what you alone can conjure up. I just didn't get that feeling. I ordered quite a few dishes from there over the years and I always feel the same when I leave; not impressed. I wish I could explain it more based on the ingredients, size of the portions, and overall quality but you'll just have to try for yourself and decide. I have learned one thing about restaurants over the years - If the restaurant doesn't offer fries to go with your burger and you have to order it separate, it say's something about the restaurant. Also, the fries, despite being ordered separate, weren't even anything special. I have gone back for breakfast to break my distaste for the Pub and their food does seem better at breakfast time. read more

THE best breakfast for the price in Keene. Catch the early bird specials for a great meal under $5! The pancakes are always fluffy, the bacon is crisp, and the scrambled eggs w/feta cheese are a must. It can get really crowded though so be sure to get there early. It's the perfect food to cure a hangover. It would also be the ideal restaurant to smoke a cig while sipping on OJ and reading the paper, but you can't do that in NH anymore. read more

The food was bland and the portions small. I've never eaten at a restaurant that didn't offer any type of potato for a side dish. My husband was so not craving filet mignon with butternut squash. I ordered the Greek lamb & string beans, several pieces of the lamb were inedible, the sauce was lacking in flavor. The waiter brought rolls at the end of the meal which we devoured because we were all still hungry. I try to avoid chain restaurants but this is one local business I would pass over. read more

Good place to go if your looking for a local alternative to the chain restaurants. Prices are relatively inexpensive but they do nickle and dime you for every little thing. They charged me an extra $1.75 for chocolate chips on my kids' pancakes which only cost $1.19 to begin with. They also charged me $0.25 extra because I asked for hot sauce. The food is good though. And the menu offers more than the basics you would expect to find at a place like this. You can tell that the ingredients are fresh. The wait staff can be hit or miss but the place isn't very big so it's pretty easy to get your server's attention without being rude. But as I said before, the food is good and I wouldn't expect better service at a Friendly's. I just wish they would raise the prices a little and stop surprise charging me for stuff. I would rate them 4 stars if not for this and the spotty service. Check 'em out for breakfast or lunch. It's worth it. read more

I feel a little badly leaving this review because I've been a customer at this restaurant for a couple years now and usually service is not as bad but I just had THE WORST experience today. When my girlfriend and I arrived we were seated right away. It wasn't very busy and then we waited for a server for longer than usual which happens and I understand that. However, when it came time to cash out our server came over, dropped 2 bills on the table even though we hadn't asked for a split check and all but ran away. My girlfriend planned to pay with her card and so we sat there waiting for the server to return to grab it. We saw her laughing with other servers behind the bar, but she did not return to the table or even look at us. We sat there for over 20 minutes waiting for her to pick up the check. Finally I decided to bring it to the host and left but I am very dissatisfied with the service. I don't plan to return any time soon. There is no excuse for ignoring a customer for that long,especially when the restaurant is less than half full. read more

I made a reservation on Monday for 16 people for Saturday at 6:00 for my son's 21st birthday. We arrived a little early (3 couples came from out of town) and they were rude and said we could stand by the bar while our table was being put together. They only had room for 10 people and asked us to go sit there because we were in the way, but it would be ready for all soon. At 6:15 I asked how much longer and they said they were waiting for the table next to us to leave, and then, asked the people to please leave. The food did not come out at the same time...I had been served when most of our party had already finished eating. Chicken parm was ordered, got veal, fish & chips came with no chips, baked potatoes, came after entree was eaten, prime rib ordered med. well, came out rare, no vegetable or salad came with dinner. One waitress assigned to the whole table. The whole experience was a disaster from the time we walked in to the time we left. I have NEVER written a review in my life, but was compelled to write this one. RUN AWAY from this restaurant as fast as you can. With all the choices in Keene, DO NOT go to this one! It's hard to believe that I wrote a raving review of the Whole Fried Clams that we ate at The Pub back on January 30, 2016. We had them again last week on April 2, 2017. The experience was totally the opposite. We both ordered the clams and we recieved a plate full of tiny little bits of clams, maybe only one whole clam on the plate. The rest of the clams were basically not edible. We mentioned it to the server, she took our plate back to the kitchen, only to return with the same plate, telling us the cook said this was all they had. He said this supply of clams they had were smaller than usual. Once we got home we wrote to the restaurant privately. We received a prompt reply from the President of the restaurant. She seemed interested in our dinner experience, we replied back answering her questions and she told us she would get back to us. That was the last we ever heard, no further response at all...Evidently, she is not that interested in the quality of the food served at The Pub. Please be careful if you order the clams when you eat here. read more
