We were in Chattanooga for the day (Saturday) and went to Public House for lunch after spending some time at the river side. It was a really hot day and I was glad that we had a booking The food was fantastic and we got a great cocktail as well. We had two appetisers (Spicy Thai Chicken and the Fried Okra) and three mains (Fried Chicken, Grilled Pork and Grilled Chicken). The food was great though we would loved more sauce with the Pork Lou Tharp and his team went over and above!! I left behind my sunglasses at the restaurant and realised I had done so when I was back at Atlanta. I called Lou and he very kindly arranged to have it mailed to me in California!! Visiting Chattanooga again and daughter made a reservation here. We were sat behind the host station and didn't even feel like we were in the restaurant itself. Getting over that the food was 'ok'. We came here with high expectations. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We made a reservation and got seated fairly quickly. Parking is validated in the garage for up to 3 hours (glad we called and found out). We started with a loaf of cornbread as there's no complimentary bread. The loaf was very pretty but as soon as you sliced it open, it all fell apart in millions of crumbs. The cornbread is served with honey and sweet butter. Luckily you can pick up all the pieces with the honey. For our main course, I ordered the Pot roast which came with a few veggies and mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Both entrees came out cold. Very cold! Our waitress had no idea nor didn't really care. She took the plates back and they both came back out hot like they should've originally came out. We could trek we had made the right decision coming to public house by the taken tables filled with laughter and happiness. I love the space of this restaurant-- very homey, but not so divided that staff couldn't accommodate everyone. We started with the potbelly ribs and our entrees were the trout with cabbage and veggie plate with brussels, green beans, beets, and collards. It was all delicious and our waiter suggested a great wine pairing. We finished off with the carrot cake, as suggested by our "waiter" bartender. Delicious southern cooking! We ordered the fried chicken, which was AMAZING - you could tell that they soak it overnight, and the skin was thin, crispy, and tasty. Food was very good my wife had the red wine braised pot roast with braised collard greens and mashed potatoes. She liked it very much and it was a small portion which for her was good. I had ordered fried chicken and lucky for me there were only two portions left. When the chicken arrived it was warm and not hot out of the fryer. So it had been sitting in a warming oven for awhile. Had the Mac and cheese and the garlic green beans. Both sides were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Green beans were a little more than el dente which is exactly the way I like them. I come here almost every year. I've celebrated birthdays here more than a few times. I'm not from TN but make it a point to stop here when I'm visiting. The other day I came for NYE dinner and was told we couldn't move our 6:15 reservation to later since they were completely booked, which was odd, given all the empty tables. I also requested we sat inside and they put us outside. Food was by far the worst I've ever had. Nothing was seasoned properly so make sure you have salt and pepper on your table. The green beans were definitely stale. Just a lot of mess ups. Really disappointed in how much money we spent and the quality of the food that night. Won't be returning here. read more

One of the most delicious meals I've ever had. The pot roast was tender and juicy, and the red wine gravy was so tasty that I very briefly considered turning the plate up and licking it all out. Girlfriend got the fried chicken, and she said it slapped. She gave me a leg, and I concur that it does indeed slap. They brine it in tea. Neat. Never thought to do that. Nice place we stopped in for dinner. The food seem to be all homemade started out with the cornbread. It was a little bit dry for my liking then have a nice house salad for my entrée. Service is always exceptional! We always start with grilled carrots for the table, they did not disappoint! I took a chance ordering something new and tried the NY strip. Wont order that again. It was dry and over cooked. I ordered a medium and it was well done. Beyond that, I'm not sure the quality of the steak was high. It was grainy and really under-seasoned. As I walked past other tables I noticed others with the steak and theirs looked the same. I probably should have sent it back, maybe a second try on the cook would have made it better. I just never send things back. Hence the 3 stars, I didn't give them a chance to fix it. The other people at my table got the pot roast and it was delicious. We ordered the house burger (nicely seasoned and juicy), pork tenderloin (delish), red wine braised pot roast (tender and flavorful), and the hot fish fried entree (moist with a crispy crunchy exterior, overnight marinade in hot sauce and buttermilk...so good!) I ask for their house made hot sauce unique and on point . So great food and service, I would recommend it hoping the staff properly wear their masks in the future. Decent place to go to for a casual date night. The cocktails were refreshing and we loved the meat & cheese board as an appetizer. The waitress's suggestions hit the spot - highly recommend the goat cheese. The board also came w candied pecans which complimented the cheese so nicely. I got my beef fillet medium rare and they cooked it perfectly. It was super tender and the gravy went well with it, but wish there was a bit more. The pot roast was also super tender! Food that is stale, tasteless, and incorrectly named on the menu PLUS a confrontational general manager that thinks it's all delicious. I ordered the cheech and chata drink which was supposedly a horchata drink with CBD. When I first tasted it I had to grab a spoon to stir it because I figured some of it had settled on the bottom of the glass, but I was wrong. It tasted like 2% milk that had been watered down. This did not even resemble horchata (incorrectly naming items). I'm Hispanic and I know my horchata. My blood might as well be horchata. I'd love to have a group of people taste this and then charge them $10 for watered down milk to see the reactions. That I would pay for. I guess you're just paying for the CBD. Then the fried green tomatoes arrived and the entire table was disappointed. The breading was like a chicken cutlet breading and was not even seasoned... completely tasteless. These had the strangest fry on a green tomato I've ever eaten out of hundreds of restaurants I've gotten them from. Then the smoked trout dip was served with the most stale crostini I have ever been given at a restaurant. No one at the table could even bite through it. I tried snapping the "crostini" in half and it would not even budge. I asked to speak to the manager and boy was that a total waste. I told him what I thought about the horchata drink and he immediately got defensive because he said that he made it himself. That right there was a horrible sign because he is supposed to be in charge of quality control and if that is the type of quality that is acceptable to him, the guests are in trouble. I figured he would agree that the crostini was extremely stale when I showed him I couldn't even snap it in half, but his response was that it's supposed to be that way and that he eats it every day. Again, this "manager" has horrible quality control. My mother that was married to an Italian and my husband and have been to Italy and we were all in shock at his response. Essentially, he only came to the table to defend the horrible quality of food they put out, but which he either makes himself or eats every day. This was some of the most HORRIBLE SERVICE I've ever received from a GM. Speaking with him was a complete displeasure. He was not at all interested in the satisfaction of the guests, but in being right about the nasty drink he made and the stale bread he enjoys eating. I'm sure if this restaurant decides to reply to this review it will be full of defensive nonsense just like we encountered with the general "manager". I suggest you find a GM that actually knows what quality looks like and knows what good service and quality control actually mean. read more

It was cool as requested, has a lot of flavor and not too dry. It came with shoe string fries though and they're just too thin to our liking. I ordered the pot roast and it was lacking flavor and dry. If you compared to other people's pictures of the pot roast, mine looks like it lacks sauce. The peanut butter pie was delicious, rich and is a good portion. The place feels cozy with moderate level of noise. You can still make conversation but has to speak kinda loud. I found the atmosphere to be warm although somewhat crowded. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful in meal suggestions. I ordered the vegetable plate: macaroni and cheese, brussle sprouts, garlic green beans and I believe an acorn squash. It was all so delicious. My fiancé ordered the fried chicken and wasn't very impressed with it. We ended the meal with a cappuccino, which was very good. Oh my goodness - we had the best experience here. We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner for 20 people in one of their private dining rooms and it could not have been a smoother or better experience. We reserved the room and menu from afar, having never been to the restaurant. The night of the event, we arrived, found the room perfectly set with table linens, cutlery, plates, and freshly filled glasses of water. We brought our own decor but it really wasn't needed - the room was cozy and attractive with an exposed brick wall and candles on the table. The main server assigned to us (Shana?) was on top if it. She asked us all the questions about our event - if we were having speeches, what type of wines we wanted to offer the guests, how much lemonade the kids were allowed to order. She made the night - she was perfect and we are so appreciative of her to help our event run smooth. The food was fabulous. The starter salad was huge and everyone enjoyed their entrees. My friends wanted a time change and the open slots were going fast. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and followed social distancing guidelines. Our server was kind and patient as friends did more chatting before stopping to look at the menu. She was able to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations for first timers. The staff was great and offered a free dessert since it was our anniversary. My wife and I both had the chicken and rice soup which was fantastic.
