So far so good. Today was my first time using storage ever. It was very painless. They showed me how to access my unit, I checked out a cart, stored my stuff and I was done. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was charged at a special rate so pretty happy about that. There were other admin fees and insurance fees, so I ended up paying $48 and some change. For a whole month that's not bad. We'll see how it goes. read more

There are moths eating up my stored items and multiplying and the managers and district managers of this location if you could take any action after six months of complaining. Moths found in my rug, which is now ruined, and found in the moth trap I added afterwards. These moths are multiplying and the managers have no interest in fixing it. I will not do business with all Public Storage places ever.This place/business is a rip-off. They kept up-charging you every few months or so for no reasons and When you are ready to leave, they will not pro-rate you for the days that you used the space for. They charged me a full month for only 2 days worth of space used. I only needed 2 days extra to get all my stuff out and they will not honor just those 2 days. Total BS that I got charged for the whole month while I only need 2 days to clear out of the space. Go somewhere else where you're only going to be charged as accordingly. rent a unit in May for 141 with no insurance using their promotion rate brought it down to 99$. following month im charge 184$ not 141$like agreed to they added insurance without my knowledge charged me this rate 5 times then hit me with a email for a rate change to 200$ i paid 245$ only one month behind which is December and we're still in December remind you. They charged me another month of rent in December for January before December is over and sold my items of the 28th and called me on the 28th after my items were sold for 0$ and reached out to discuss my problems and concerns regarding my payment after they sold my items and closed my account. I called that Tuesday to discuss and try to resolve the issues I've caught and the gentleman said he'll make a note and have my call returned. one month behind in the same month I'm behind in and my items were sold before the month was over. Lisa or Melissa whatever name she goes by the property manager is who i spoke with directly and she acted like she couldn't understand my issue with their mistake on their end .... and instead of doing her job and investigating more into it to fix this mistake she gave me the customer service number to call really insulting my intelligence like I'm not aware shes the one I go to. So i will be reaching to someone above and possibly a lawyer with everyone else in these reviews who to have been scammed by this storage unit. No carts when I need them. It's 6 pm and the parking lot is empty and there are no carts in all 3 bays. If I come at 8 am there are no carts. When I complained in the morning they said they have to make calls --- to get reservations in--not to help the people already paying rent. Why can't the first things employees do when they walk in is bring carts to bays?? Why can't the last thing employers do before they leave is bring carts to all the bays? I requested that they reverse this on grounds that they damaged almost everything I own in storage to some degree. AVOID. THIS. PLACE. i cannot stand this company. I moved some of my things in here in August, since my previous landlord was selling the house on short notice and I was forced to move in a hurry. I rented a 10X20 unit for $320 per month, which was reasonable at the time. My rent is now $400 per month which is outrageous. My rent was raised five months into the lease, not even after a year or six month, which would have been more normal. In addition to the timing of the rent increase, the amount is outrageous. The rent went up by $80 per month after only a few months? That is highway robbery. They are basically holding your property hostage. A few months ago there was flooding on the first floor. There were fans and dehumidifiers everywhere for about two weeks. They did not send out any e-mails about this. I read one of the other reviews, and somebody on the first floor had his property destroyed. Good thing I was on the second floor. There is also not enough parking. The moving trucks always park perpendicular and take up five or six parking spaces. There are not enough dollies. I had to go to Home Depot and buy my own for $100. I could not stand around all day waiting for one of the few dollies to become available. I was in a hurry to move. The place is always under construction. I don't know what they are building, but they are converting some of the storage units on the first floor into I don't know what. The reason storage companies like Public Storage and Extra Space rip you off so much is that they are owned by REITs (real estate investment trusts), which are hedge funds. Any time a business gets bought by a hedge fund, prices go up and service goes down. They are doing the same thing with hospitals and doctors offices, but that is another rant. I will get my things out of here as soon as possible. These companies take advantage of people when they are in a tight spot when they have to move. Nasty company, nasty service. read more

1/20/24 Unbelievable horrible experience today.....minding my own business moving out of my unit before the end of the month, and Melissa the manager, walks by my unit and says "excuse me, do you have food in your unit"? I assume her accusation was based on a food box she saw in my unit. I tell her there is not food in there, its just a box. She demands that I prove it to her by opening my box. I refuse, telling her its my property and she has no right to demand to see the contents of my items. She tells me it is policy that food cannot be stored. I totally agree that people should not store food in their units, as it will attract mice and pest, but I do not have any food in my unit. I told her I would not open the box, but showed her the writing on the outside that states the contents, all my boxes are labeled with a sharpie pen listing its contents. I'm pretty sure you have to have positive proof, such as in the act of eating or visually seeing the food or trash, wrappers, etc.....you cant just come up to someone, accuse them of something and as a result demand to see their property. I, then asked her if she wanted to smell the box if she doesnt believe me. Things got heated and nasty as she was yelling in my face and continued demanding to see what was inside despite me stating over and over that I had no food and that she had no proof. She also brought up that she would evict me if I did not open my boxes. At this point, even though I didnt have any food and could have opened for her to see, but I decided not to because in her capacity as a manager she was acting like a thug and not professionally, it was basically "Do as I say or else". Her tone was also loud, as we both were shouting at this point. As I walked away pushing my cart, and she in the opposite direction, she continued to yell and say things as she walked down the hallway. Hopefully, its all on camera and upper management will be able to watch. I loaded my van, and went to the front office. Doors locked, empty desk, so I sat in my car, trying to reach corporate, eventually she showed up along with a co worker, I got out of my car and went to the door, where she left but an employee (Yami) stayed to opened the door. I explained the situation to him, and at first he was apologetic and said perhaps she took it too far, and I asked for her to come out and apologize to me directly, he said it wasnt going to happen. I asked for the policy, and he printed out something and handed it to me. I asked where does it say about "food", he said line item #8. #8 states that they can inspect your unit within 3 days of written notice, if they suspect criminal activity, there is nothing no where that states about storing food....again, I am not storing food only collectibles. I pointed out that what he gave me does not state what they are all saying is policy. Frustrated with me, he asked me to leave, even though it was only 4pm and they close at 5pm. I stated I wanted to stay inside until I could get this situation resolved. Then another male employee chimed in and also asked me to leave, and stated that I was a grown man and to handle it myself. At one point, this person says "do you want to take it outside", and I asked to do what? and He said "to do whatever you want"....I was shocked this is a national franchise and a professional business and they have people like this guy working here?? does he not realize that there are cameras everything and he is being recorded at all times? Anyways, Im pretty sure the manager Melissa was over stepping her authority and then having the nerve to kick people out of the store for no reason. Not one employee acted impartially, instead they all just ganged up and supported one another, very immature and unprofessional. They kicked me out because they said they have stuff they need to do and could not be in the lobby while I was there. I said its only 4pm and you close at 5pm, I was hoping someone would help me resolve this situation, but they two guys just keep repeating that I need to leave the premises. I left and called corporate to file a complaint against Melissa, turns out she did so too, but falsified the situation by adding things that didnt happen, like stating I had candy in my unit, and that I told her to smell the box like she was a dog....and stating she felt threatened by me, even though she was 6 inches from my face yelling loudly and saying she was the manager (video), complete lies to protect her job. Melissa is a Liar. I came back later to find a lock on my unit. I live out of state and have a very busy schedule and only have Friday night (after work) and Saturday to try to take care of my business, and now there is a lock on my door until when?? I was hoping to move out completely this weekend and now they have messed up my schedule and inconvienced me. I dont have time for this madness. No complaints for me! We received a great rate. And the move-in process was pretty smooth. I did everything online for the most part, but the property manager was available and addressed any questions I did have with no problems. Plus, they have elevators thankfully, as our unit was on the second floor, and they also have carts in the elevator lobby to help you tote things, very convenient!! BARGAIN RATE MAY DISAPPEAR WITH RENT INCREASE. The month-to-month structure of the rental agreement allows the Public Storage corporate office to increase the rent with 30-days' notice. A few months into the rental agreement, I saw close to a 20% increase. If this had been the price I saw when first considering the unit, I would have not rented it. In my view this is a sharp practice. It should surprise no-one that this aspect of the rental agreement is not prominently featured in Public Storage's advertising or in their promotional materials. read more

The Public Storage at 880 Pickett Place, Alexandria VA is terrible . I moved from Cubesmart mid-July and got a 10x20 unit for $230. Well, less than 5 months later I get an email from them saying my rate was going up to $310 starting in a couple weeks! What a bait and switch!!!!! While promotional rates don't last forever, a 35% rate increase this fast is a bait and switch for consumers!!!! I called to request that they provide me with a rate reduction given I am a newer customer and the increase was too high and awfully quick, and I was told by "Liz" who wouldn't give me any other information that they can do whatever they want because their storage leases are month to month. No other reason or understanding was known by her or told to me. She said "we are just going in circles" when i tried to ask her a few time "why" the increase was so high. Then she said she would transfer me to a supervisor and put me on hold and hung up. Nice company! read more
