    My husband and I have been loyal customers of A-1 Storage - Little Italy (2235 Pacific Hwy, San…read moreDiego, CA 92101) for nearly three years, paying over $300 per month to store our car while we relocated to the East Coast to care for his elderly parents. We absorbed multiple rent increases without complaint. We were good, reliable, long-term customers. And this is how we were treated. On my most recent visit to San Diego, I arrived completely drained after a full day of travel -- bad weather, a long layover in Denver, a cross-country flight, only to find that my battery was dead. I walked into the office and politely asked if someone could give me a jump. One employee barely lifted his eyes and muttered "give us a few minutes." No acknowledgment that I was even a person in need of help. No "sorry about that." No basic human decency. Just dismissal. I walked back to my car and stood in the garage -- alone, with my luggage, no place to sit -- for over 20 minutes. Let that sink in. Over 20 minutes. Standing in a garage we have been paying thousands for, faithfully, for nearly three years, while multiple staff members sat around doing nothing. After that 20-minute wait, I had to go back into the office and ask again. I practically had to plead for basic assistance. Only then -- reluctantly, as if I were an inconvenience -- did they send Armando out to help. This is not a minor complaint. This is a complete failure of basic customer respect. When I followed up with a phone call weeks later and spoke to Ian, it somehow got worse. He was utterly indifferent -- no apology, no accountability, no acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. He made it abundantly clear that our years of business and thousands of dollars meant absolutely nothing to this facility. I will say this: Armando, who came out and helped with the jump, was professional, kind, and genuinely appreciated. He is the only reason this review isn't a zero-star across the board. The problem is not him -- the problem is a management culture that treats loyal, paying customers like dirt. We have since moved our vehicle to a facility that actually values its customers. We will not be back.

My background - 6x military/full service, long distance, cross continental and international moves in the past 7 years. 1 bedroom apartment w/o garage. No major appliances. Bed/desk/chair/couch for major furniture only. Having seen how fast movers typically work when they're being paid by mileage and poundage, vice getting paid per hour, this was absolutely ridiculous how slow this team was. Normally I'm unable to help movers because they're moving so quickly - packing, moving, staging gear, etc., but with this team, I was clearly the third mover helping the process out. There was zero sense of urgency until I formally called them out on taking their sweet time. Their packing work was extraordinarily shoddy - literally boxes half full and others looking like they "poured" my bookshelves into boxes with books with bent pages and cracked open, with taping jobs that I have never seen in any of my moves (who tapes "x"s on the boxes instead of sealing the edges?). To describe the entire process - sloppy. Considering how expensive this process was and how little was done (they were unable to move my 1 bedroom apartment ten minutes away in 5.5 hours, from an apartment w/ an elevator to a single story house with street access), I did not get value for my money. I ended up moving the remaining 20% of my stuff w/ my friend, fuming about how much money was spent and wasted with La Jolla Moving Company. *UPDATE* (2.5 months): I finally closed the loop w/ the staff and customer service side of the house w/ La Jolla Movers. Initially they seemed very concerned and wanted to do right by me, calling me and being proactive to find out what happened and to rectify the situation. I fully understand and accept that they cannot control every single one of their movers and drivers (reasonable), so I was very clear that my issues were w/ my particular movers, and that they probably do have plenty of good movers in their staff. Ultimately it was determined to refund me some of the time that was lost in the move, which I thought was fair. If this was done expeditiously, I would have easily changed my review to 3+ stars, because a leadership team's follow-up is everything, and the effort to make things right and do the right thing by the customer (not just catering to a customer's whiny needs) - should be recognized. Honesty and integrity are important in a moving company. It ended up taking months to finally close this loop, which ended up being very frustrating with me constantly hunting down CSRs and leadership. Yes, I believe the final financial settlement was fair, but the multiple delays and lack of communication made things incredibly difficult. I tried to give them plenty of opportunities to prove the experience to be an anomaly, but ended up still somewhat frustrated w/ my experience. Upgraded my review as a result, but still very lukewarm about my experience with the company.

They took great care of everything, including a lot of indoor and outdoor plants. They wrapped everything and secured it safely. No damage whatsoever. The move went seamlessly both days and to both locations. Highly recommend James, Darren, and Joshua. They are honest, helpful, have great communication , and are knowledgeable.     I previously left a review back in April after using this moving company, but now that I am fully…read moreunpacked and settled in, I feel obligated to leave an updated review because the full extent of the damage and negligence has become clear. At this point, I have realized that THREE boxes are missing from my move, multiple pieces of furniture were damaged, and the company has done absolutely nothing to resolve the situation. My bed now has scuff marks and dents that were not there before the move. But the most frustrating issue has been my dining table. The movers removed the legs for transport, which was understandable, but they failed to give me the nuts needed to reattach the screws and properly put the table back together. After the movers left, I returned to my old apartment to do a final walkthrough and return my keys. I noticed random screws and nuts on the floor and threw them away, not realizing they belonged to my dining table because nobody communicated that to me. Looking back, it is obvious how careless this move actually was. Yes, the movers were friendly, but friendliness does not excuse missing boxes, damaged furniture, and incomplete assembly of expensive items. I have gone to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Harbor Freight multiple times trying to replace the missing nuts, only to be told the threading is uncommon and difficult to find. As a result, my dining table is currently unusable and sitting in storage. What makes this even worse is the company's complete lack of accountability. They never proactively reached out to address any of these issues. My partner had to contact them herself and speak with a manager. She was polite and explained everything, and the manager claimed they would speak with the supervisor overseeing the moving crew and follow up with us. That never happened. No call back, no resolution, nothing. Between the missing boxes, damaged furniture, poor communication, hidden charges from my original experience, and now the complete disregard afterward, I absolutely do not recommend this company. In my opinion, this company operates in a highly unprofessional and careless manner. If you are considering hiring movers, I honestly believe you are better off renting a U-Haul and asking friends or family for help. It would likely be less stressful, far less expensive, and you would avoid dealing with the damage, missing items, and lack of accountability that I experienced with this company. This entire experience has been exhausting, frustrating, and incredibly disappointing.
