This place is AWFUL! We've had our property stolen TWICE in less than a year at this location! The staff behind the counter is a new person every few weeks and English in never their first language. Not helpful, mostly rude! With our last theft on April 6, 2016, we called the District Manager to see if we could retrieve video surveillance and not once did she call us back to help! Completely ignored us! Finally, my husband and I found out her bosses name, the Regional Manager, and sent her a frank email. She then proceeded to blow sunshine up our bu**s with the blah, blah, blah, cameras are on, but they don't record B.S. Then at the end of the conversation had the nerve to say, "thank you for your business, is there anything else I can help you with"? Both are idiots! Further, there is garbage constantly lying around and the garbage bin is always full! The light pole lying on the ground near the garbage has been lying there for a year, making the area very dark; a perfect scenario for theft. And, I might add, there is a HOMELESS CAMP situated right next to the property. No joke! My suggestion is RUN. Do NOT keep your valuables here and expect them to be protected! read more

***UPDATE*** 3/25/2017 "Joseph" just threw me out because I was taking long at my space "hanging out". ***** OK so last time I wrote about their rear elevator having an operational problem for approximately 8 months before being repaired. They repaired it! Meanwhile, the fluorescent light in front of my unit (inside, upper floor) was out for approximately six weeks. They replaced the bulb after I called then twice, waited a while and then posted here. Maybe I am expecting too much, but one would think that they would known from walking around their own property. When I first told them about it, they had said they were not sure whether they had a light bulb. !?!? Speaking of "their own property", a couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of going to my unit a few minutes after the 9pm cutoff time (it was before 9:15 for sure, i remember). The system let me in; the next day I received a voice mail message admonishing me and threatening that the police could show up and arrest me for trespassing. Trespassing! Their word. I suppose they may be within the law to do that; this is just a FYI so you will know as you decide whether to do business with them. UPDATE: Their website states "you can feel at ease when you leave your stuff at one of our locations." However, (1)Now this facility does not have an operating keycode pad the key pads at both the front and the rear have been taken offline. This means that anyone off the street can walk in, get on an elevator, and go directly to your storage unit; and (2) the rear gate, which is supposed to be secured, is left wide open 24/7, meaning the person who just went to your storage unit can also drive their getaway truck up to the back door and out again without having to pass any security whatsoever. This is pretty amazing, considering the "trespassing" voice mail I received. I guess they'll have the police walk past the unauthorized people and haul me away for "trespassing". ALSO: There are references to "Stephanie" in some of these reviews. Stephanie was here when I signed up 2 1/2 years ago; she was an angel and a huge asset to this place. She has been gone for some time now, and this place has subsequently gone down the tubes. The current staff is not so much rude or evil, but more like seemingly bound and restricted by higher-ups who themselves can't be found and who do not appear to care at all about the facility or the customers -- unless they have not paid by 8:00 am of the monthly due date. I am sure the staff here catches crap every day from underserved customers, myself included. You would probably do well to just not have this drama in your life. read more

For the second time in less than a year, our Airstream trailer, for which we pay an extraordinary storage fee of $350 per month, has been broken into and both battery cables cut with the batteries stolen. Cutting the cables requires the trailer to be towed to Los Banos for repairs. Public Storage did absolutely nothing the first time it happened, they have no cameras protecting the area, and they were ridiculously rude. Now it's happened again, and I am certain that this will be no different. We have been paying them $350 per month for over 5 years and this warrants no special treatment or even interest in keeping our trailer safe. read more

The staff are professional and courteous. The place is kept very neat and clean - beyond what I would have expected for a storage unit. The long hours available to access the unit have been convenient, and the large flatbed carts have been extremely helpful. One issue - one day a few of us got locked into the premises when the system was not handling the security code. We could not get through to a person on the posted numbers, so we had to call 911. It was remedied pretty quickly, but frustrating in the mean time. If I need to use storage again I will most likely come back to this location. read more

AVOID! They are never there and rarely answer the phone which makes it impossible when you want to move out. You can't check out online and you cant pay over the phone with credit card. The bottom line is by making themselves unavailable they collect another months rent from you! AVOID!!! read more

Just signed up for a unit today. I want a large unit with climate control and this place has the best prices based on an online search. When we arrived we actually went next door by mistake to 2250 Delaware but the lady was very helpful and directed us back to this place. It was a busy day and Renee had to help multiple customers while we were there. Nonetheless, she was able to juggle her multiple priorities efficiently while also gave us a tour of the facilities and showed us our unit. She explained the security features and answered our questions satisfactorily. In short, she was really helpful. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. I called the 800 number looking for a price quote. I made the mistake of giving Ben my number "in case we got disconnected." After he gave me a price that wasn't competitive with the places I already called, I told him no thanks and hungup. He called me back and I again told him thanks but no thanks. He then called me a third time trying to tell me it was impolite to hang up on people. WTF BEN! I told him he sucks at life and he earned a 1 star review. read more

Beware of storing valuables at this location. Security is nonexistent - cameras are there to monitor their property, not your locker. The location is close the train tracks and there are a number of homeless people that hang out around the building. Someone broke into my storage unit - they broke down the door handle and stole thousands of dollars worth of items. Of course, Public Storage doesn't lay blame on themselves for poor security or monitoring. read more

I have been using this particular storage facility on an off for about the last eight years with no problems whatsoever. When I needed a large storage area Stephanie did everything she can to accommodate my needs. She made my move in extremely painless. I had such a great experience with Stephanie's customer service skills and was so helpful that I actually needed and rented an additional unit and once again Stephanie personally called me and kept me updated and found me another storage space right next to my existing one. It may be wise for some of the other storage facilities in the area to take a minute and learn what customer service is all about!! As far as I'm concerned I'm a customer for life. read more

Steer clear of this Public Storage facility. I was a customer for about NINE years. I recently had a billing issue and tried to make contact with their Regional Leadership to discuss it. I made FIVE calls to Ronald and Kevin Sanck. They didn't even bother to return my calls. This kind of customer service tells me and you that they DON'T want your business and will not take care of you if you did give them your business. Avoid this business at all costs. I rented a "climate controlled" unit to store some furniture and belongings while remodeling our house. During the first rain of the season we visited the unit to find it flooded due to a roof leak. Public Storage claims it is not their responsibility and will do nothing to pay for damage to furniture. What's the point in paying $225/month for storage that is as good as storing my belongings outside in the elements? In addition, we had to spend an entire afternoon moving our belongings to another unit (thankfully one across the hall was available) and they are now trying to charge us for the difference because it's a bigger unit! read more

Moving is such a pain. I hate it. I wasn't overly excited about having to rent a storage unit for the 5 months I was in transition, however the experience I had with public storage staff was A+. Stephanie, in particular was knowledgable, accommodating and very personable. She goes the extra mile. I was surprised on my move out date she had remembered my name, where I was coming from and all the details of the conversation we had 5 months prior. The month before I moved out, I had probably changed my exit date 3 or 4 times. She was very patient and explained the cost implications each time I called. To my dismay, I needed to store 80 boxes and some miscellaneous things because the timing of my move did not work out as planned. Came in and Stephanie took care of me efficiently and with a friendly, service-oriented manner. She went out of her way to help me with moving supplies, with the use of the security system and lock, and offered advice regarding the rental that was very helpful. I had occasion to call back for some additional information and her phone manners equaled her face-to-face manners. I have been extremely satisfied with this Public Storage facility in San Mateo. I just moved back to the Bay Area from Los Angeles and was in need of a climate control, safe, secure, & clean storage facility. I had to find something fast. I had been using Public Storage in LA and was very satisfied, so I knew I wanted to use Public Storage again. Stephanie, the facility manager was totally helpful, very professional, and extremely knowledgable. She arranged everything with such expediency which gave me great relief. She is so personable and interested in me as a person! She remembers details from my last visit and each time I come in she will ask me questions relative to our last conversation...not many people these days take the time or care to do that.
