We rented a 10 x 15 unit at the Laurelwood Road location in Santa Clara on January 15th 2021 and our storage unit was broken into on Sunday early morning (1 to 2 am) on the 11th of April. The chain link fence along Highway 101 was cut and the perpetrators entered through the hole they cut. The security cameras shown them entering the property, but then there is no video of them breaking into our unit, the cameras do not show our unit at all. They cut the master lock with bolt cutters and then proceeded to blow torch the slide mechanism to enter the unit ( the second lock was a round lock that Public storage recommended and was not cut). The stole a Christmas tree, $1000 guitar and other personal belongings. The manager on duty did not get in touch with us until later in the afternoon. The police were called and a case was started. My husband and I returned on Monday to start taking our belongings out of the storage unit and noticed that the repaired chain link fence was yet again cut, after they had repaired it on Sunday afternoon. We have since cleared out our unit (H099) and moved our belongings to a safer place. The Manager of the this facility was not at all concerned about our loss and said that the mechanism had been soldered, not blow torched. DO NOT RENT A UNIT FROM THIS FACILITY !! I would give it a negative rating if I could. read more

July 12, 2013 Early February 2013, we knew that we needed to move. To lighten up the moving load, some of our things needed to go to our storage unit. This seemed to be a good time to change to a larger storage unit, so I responded to a public storage ad on the Internet, and went to see the unit at 1955 Lafayette St, Santa Clara, California on Saturday, 2/2/13. I informed the person that showed me the unit that I was not sure that I would move in but would let them know. I called later on that day and stated that I could not find out from my current storage facility until Monday. I was instructed that I should fill out the Public Storage on-line form right away or I would lose my place for the special price that I was seeking. I filled out the form. The next day, my wife and I came down with severe flulike symptoms. On Monday, I found to avoid penalty, we would have to move before the fifth. At that point, it was impossible due to our current state of health. I called public storage and informed them that we could not occupy the unit. Two weeks or so later we noticed that we had been charged for the unit at public storage. Since we never went there to occupy the unit, nor put a special lock on the door that is required to do so, we were quite shocked. I and didn't pursue the matter until after we were moved in to our new apartment and settled. I called and got the national 800-number and explained my problem. I was told that the manager at 1955 Lafayette St, Santa Clara, California public storage would call me. He did not. This happened several more times, and a few days ago. From the national 800-number I was again told that the manager would definitely call me - no call. The next day I left a message at the local number stating that I would not be at my home all day - but could be reached on my cell phone. I pleaded that they call me on my cell phone or leave a message on my home phone. Were they satisfied to keep my money for a unit that I never occupied? Again there was no response. read more

Craig helped us rent our unit here. He was polite and friendly and has a good sense of humor. The building is very clean and appears to be quite secure, with surveillance cameras and electronic security on the elevators. The building is climate controlled. There are large carts available for moving stuff from the car to the unit. I think the prices are reasonable, especially given the quality of the facility. read more

Clean, trolley and parking available, good location. Just know that they will raise your rent 10% every 6 months and they really want you to use their $17 lock. The walls are thin metal but they have lot of security checkpoints. No trash can or bathroom to use. read more

DO NOT store your valuables here unless you want them stolen- my unit was visited multiple times and many of my things were taken. The lock was "undisturbed" so that Public Storage was not liable. They only have cameras pointed at the office and the entry door but not inside the facility. Also expect them to jack up your monthly price almost $80-$100 yearly. I rented a small unit at this facility in May 2015...loaded my boxes in the unit and put the lock that they recommended and went on my way. I went back a year later to put something in the unit and all was fine. Yesterday, 1-9-2017 I went to pay my bill, which I have done faithfully each month and to check my boxes. Well....when I opened the door to my unit I found ONLY 17 of the 46 boxes I left. I have the ONLY keys to the unit...but yet....my things are missing/stolen! The lock was intact as well as the unit and no forced entry was visible. Somebody probably climbed in going through the chicken wire on the top of the unit from the units besides mine or picked the lock. The recommended lock!.Needless to say....I am VERY upset. I took out my remaining boxes..closed my account and called the insurance company associated with the Public Storage. They will NOT cover theft where no forced entry is visible. I put my trust in this company/facility and paid the insurance thinking that my boxes of belongings were safe from the weather and the elements not thinking that theft would be an option. MY MISTAKE! I don't know if there are security cameras but there was clearly something that happened! I am disappointed.....heart sick that someone has my things. Things that I have had since I was a child. Things that can not be replaced. The officer who took my report said that this happens periodically and that there isn't much they can do since there are no security cameras in the halls. He also mentioned that there have been people who live in these storage lockers though he did not say this facility had that problem. I have no recourse...since Ins won't cover it. BEFORE you rent a storage unit from ANY storage company.....check out their theft/insurance policy!!!!! check out their security measures! Check out the unit before you sign on the dotted line. If it has chicken wire on the top...your belongings are probably not safe. Don't loose your treasures as I have. read more

The onsite employee Colbie at the 3033 Fayette street location was unprofessional and was not willing to help at all. I made it on time for my appointment with my car fully loaded but the internet was down at the location and she refused to help us or provide us with any help. Her response was simply "I can't do anything without internet'. it is the poorest customer service I have ever received. STAY AWAY from this location. read more

My husband called for a quote on a 5x5 unit at this location and we were given the price of $68 as our final monthly payment (taxes included). We made the reservation over the phone to ensure the price was not going to change, and as we walk in to the location to sign the contract, they start adding new requirements/add-ons that we must comply with, such as a locker (one time $17 fee) and monthly insurance ($11), which would bring our original quote to $79. Why wouldn't they say about these other requirements over the phone before you lose your time going there to find those out? Basically, they don't care about customer service. I can only imagine how it'd be if we rented and later had an issue. We're bringing our business somewhere else. read more

Honestly the worst service I've ever encountered. The employee (Suvie i believe) was rude and demeaning. She would not listen to my concerns as a customer and actually hung up on me! The light in the unit has never worked even after repeated promises to get it fixed. I have to say, however, that the support staff have been fantastic. Very accommodating and friendly. I know someone stole the large dolly some time ago but I believe that more dollies are needed for this facility due to the large number of total units that these 2 remaining dollies have to serve. Please look into this and address as soon as possible. I have on occasion had to wait for a dolly to become freed up before I can take care of my business. read more

I called 408-758-5556 and spoke w Bobby who was horribly UNHELPFUL! Just terrible. Wanted to ask a zillion questions and pontificate with what if's vs providing me, the customer with answers. Condescending. Rude. Provided NO info at all. I then provided a specific date - in two days and the specific size of unit I wanted and he still could NOT provide information. I have been a public storage client in another state for over 10 years. I know what I need. He provided NO information or assistance whatsoever. If I wasn't going to tell him the exact number of boxes and size of the furniture, then he was going to withhold any and all information from me. After the call to Public Storage, I called West Coast storage who happens to be right down the street. I received wonderful customer service and information. And I wasn't peppered with a ton of unnecessary questions. Public Storage - if you want customers, get your act together!! read more
