Came here to just grab a drink with my friend last Wednesday but while sitting talking story decided we were actually hungry.. so we ordered this was my first time grabbing food from here usually we just grab a beer. I got the pub burger and it was pretty killer, simple 2 smash patties with the typical accoutrements lettuce onion tomato and cheese. Portion size was fairly bigger then I was expecting and again it was simple but delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I've had maybe it was because I was hungry ‍ My friend got the Kalua pig tacos and he mowed them down but he did say they were really good also. Choice of beers on tap are good there's something for everyone even cider if you're not a beer drinker. Service was friendly we dealt directly with the chef and he even gave us a rundown on specials up coming for the next day and the weekend. Puka's was a place where I used to go for pau Hana with my friends. It was also a cool spot with the friendliest staff! Today is January 6, 2024 I went in with my friend at 3:30pm! When I came in we weren't greeted as we usually were accustomed to! The young woman server made it seem like it was a problem for us to be in there! She said you order from the bar with the most privileged dirty attitude! We wanted to order food and she said all we have is wings and burgers, so then I said that's fine can we get wings and burgers, she rolled her eyes at us and walked away! We weren't offered any water or anything! She continued to talk to her 2 friends that were at the bar and laugh and just socialize! When she finally brought the food out I asked for water and plates and she rolled her eyes again! Finally when she brought out the plates and water I kept saying thank you , and she didn't respond ! Very rude attitude ~ she didn't check up on us if we needed anything and didn't bother to check if we needed water refills! Frankly we could've left without paying and she still wouldn't have noticed! She continued on with her friends and was even eating wings ignoring everyone! The cauliflower nachos were on point (larger pieces of cauliflower- needed to cut them in half). I tried the Beyond Burger. Served the same as the Pub Burger. And to me, tastes just as good. We were told the cheddar cheese is vegan, which I wouldn't have guessed except for the fact it didn't melt even after being under the salamander. The prices can't be beat. $3 beers (Heineken, longboard, Sapporo) on Sundays. My salmon salad had a good piece of salmon on a piece of green beans, sauteed tiny potatoes, hard boiled egg, mixed greens with kalamata olives, tomatoes, tossed with balsamic vinegar for $12. The salad was very fresh. The dressing with the kalamata olives were perfect. Plus the moist grilled salmon on a bed of green beans. Dozen traditional tossed organic chicken wings for $13. The chicken was very crispy and juicy. Awesome cauliflower nachos topped with avocado crema $12. Highly recommend. The flavor together were sooo Ono. We have been here a couple of times since Taylor loves craft/draft beer and it's right in the front of Kahala Mall. The seating is a bit weird as they have indoor and outdoor seating in the courtyard, but as long as the weather is nice, and there's not too much bird poop, it's a nice spot with plenty of free parking! The menu is a bit limited, but I have tried a few good things including the cauliflower nachos and he loves the rotating beer selections as well as they have a daily food deal that changes every day of the week. The service is a bit slow since they are limited in size and you have to be listening for your name to be called, but if you're just in the mood for a beer while at the mall, it's not bad! read more

The takeout at this place is horrible I ordered here twice just a burger and fries nothing crazy, asked for the quoted time I should strive, waited that time to come, and I still had to wait 15 minutes for my order after I had arrived to their establishment. I called another time wanted to get cauliflower nachos 30 minutes before closing and they told me that their kitchen was closed. WTF, that's terrible customer service. There is nothing worse then a lazy kitchen and that's their primary job. I could see if I called 5 minutes before closing, but 30 fkn minutes. C'mon! Hmm Here's another review on behalf of my pooches! I came here to order off the dog menu since I wandered past this store one day and noticed a menu with a huge dog face on it. They offer either bacon, hamburger or hot dog and it's all under $5 each item. I opted for the 2 hamburgers for $5 and it was hot off the grill in 15 mins! The set up is kinda confusing. I was actually looking for a register so I just walked through the entire restaurant. It looks like you can just seat yourself but a kind man helped me and gave me a lunch menu. I kindly refused it and asked for the dog menu. Lol. It also looked like they had daily specials on the board behind the bar. I asked how do people order if they have their dog and there is no dogs allowed signs everywhere?! They said it was ok if you're just coming in to place a order but I guess people take advantage. However, you could totally enjoy the outdoor seating with your pup. It was still nice and hot when I got home and my pooches scarfed them up! The wait time at our first choice was unspeakably long and bordering on unacceptable. Ample parking available at the mall. For those of your familiar with the mall, Puka's now occupies the former Cinnabon space. And to be brutally honest, its not that big. Seating is regulated to the bar, a communal table in the center (main area), and tables placed along the corridor that connects Puka's to the main Whole Foods store. NOTE: Happy hour is Monday to Friday, 400-600pm. Select wines $6, select IPA draft beer $5, and one small plate (Roasted Brussells Sprouts) $5. There is a daily weekday special that includes an entree and beer; specials differ from day to day. FOOD/DRINKS: Unfortunately, happy hour had lapsed by the time we sat at the bar at about 745pm (the bar closes at 9pm). Food selections include sushi, small plates, salads, fish and chips, and two types of burgers. To quench one's "thirst", the choices are beer, wine, and signature cocktails. I ordered a Kahala Mule (no doubt their version of a Moscow Mule), and my dining companion and I shared the Salmon Avocado Roll, the Spicy Crab Meat California Roll (two orders), and the Charred Green Chile Guac & Cabo Chips. Located inside of whole food with the option to dine in or sit outside. With the crazy case counts for Covid recently they make it easy to feel safer with outdoor seating. There is a security guard who stands in the entrance of the outdoor seating to check for vaccinations. When going inside to order we were quickly greeted and introduced to the menu. They have plenty of tap beers to choose from, and they are so knowledgeable about each beer. We tried the celebration beer which was a darker tap beer but so tasty with our pupus. We ordered the fish and chips with truffle fries (my favorite was the truffle fries), cauliflower nachos, and the salmon Cobb salad. I was so surprised at the variety in the Cobb salad which ranged from green beans, sunchokes, and garlic! I also really loved how soft the fish was with the fish and chips and the truffle fries is a MUST. The Kahala one is much mellower now that the new Whole Foods has opened in Kakaako, and (so far, at least) the prices are lower here too. I had a fabulous salad with some tiny red teardrop shaped things that looked like tomatoes but turned out to be a Peruvian pepper. Our server Brian not only explained all about them but also informed us that they were available for purchase inside Whole Foods and exactly where they were located. The only downsides are the limited menu choices, the ordering is a bit difficult (because it's really loud inside), the seating is a bit strange because you're just sitting together with regular mall patrons, and there are creepy crawly things on the stone wall. read more

We returned today after our finishing our usual walking route to try more healthy and tasty choices at Puka's. We even got to watch the NBA game between the GS Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies. This time, I remembered to check-in, take more pictures AND get the names of our friendly efficient service team members (Dan and Steve). I've been "enamored" with the Maui Taro Mediterranean burger so this is the second time that I've ordered it. The mild taro taste is evident and there's a nice slather of hummus on the bottom half of the bun to "hold the patty in place". Yes, it's a vegan burger that tasty and healthy. It comes with either a side salad (mixed greens or kale) or French fries. Other options that you can choose are sweet potato fries, cheese, bacon, guacamole, caramelized onions or a fried egg at additional cost. But, this taro burger doesn't need anything more. So, I just chose the kale salad. Dan, our server, noted that I wanted Feta cheese with my burger and the kitchen put the Feta in my kale salad and even gave me an additional container of cheese to put onto my burger. Yeah, it's odd for this omnivore to eat such clean vegan style food. But, don't knock it...Puka's does this dish flavorfully. My husband, on the other hand, decided to try the Oyster Po'Boy. Puka's take was a fusion of NOLA and Vietnamese banh mi. The French loaf was stuffed with beer battered fried oysters with a sesame seed oil dressing and Asian-style pickled vegetables. He ordered his sandwich with the French fries that were crisp on the outside and fluffy on its interior. He liked it so much that he even pulled his plate closer to him and guarded his sandwich from me like a dog. Well, he eventually gave in and let me have a bite and this Po'Boy was certainly tasty and "party central" for our tastebuds. For the second day in a row, we drank the Ace Pineapple Cider with our meal. But, today, we ventured out to try the Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Steve, our other server, even asked us if either of us had nut allergies or was lactose-intolerant. We thought that was very responsible and showed concern for people's health. You can sit inside even if you're only eating a burrito you purchased at Whole Foods, however, that limits the seats/tables for those of us who want to dine-in with full service. If you sit outside on the cement tables, flip the wooden block to "green" to get service. Because all of the seating is mixed (some people eating for dine-in service, some people eating their salad bar from or pastries from inside), service can be a little spotty but we sat inside by the bar and we didn't really have any service issues. BEER. $6-10/16oz glass. (Happy Hour 2-5pm $1 off draft) Don't know which one to get? You can choose a skateboard with a flight that comes with 4-4oz samples. AND if you don't know what you want, you can even sample before you get your samples. I don't know anywhere that lets you sample beer, but these guys do. Monday special: wings and beer $10. It's not the best burger at the mall (hello Counter burger), but it comes with your choice of fries or mediterranean salad, and BACON JAM. Oh yes bacon jam. This stuff is deeelish. The last time I told you my bacon secret at Whole Foods you know what happened, so keep this bacon jam on the DL. There are wooden blocks on the table. If you want service turn it up to the green side that says, "full service." If you just want to chillax then make sure the red side is up. You can also drink outside. Menu: What my sister and I ordered. It's decently priced considering that its in the inside of Whole Foods. This place offers your typical bar food wings, fries, burgers, fish & chips, pizzas, and sushi. They also have a keiki plates for your children. Before our meals came we were given two cups of freshly popped popcorn. It was seasoned with garlic and salt. I wasn't sure if we could get more, but my sister and I ate everything. I ordered the TACOS (you can choose to have all 3 of the different tacos offered or all of the same, whatever your fancy they'll do it for you). I choose one of each. It's priced at $12. *Kailua Pig (My favorite out of the 3): It is topped with porter bbq sauce and purple cabbage. *Beer Braised Beef: It's topped with pickled onion, queso fresco and cilantro. The meat was nice and soft. I usually don't like onion and everything complemented each other well. *Seared Fish: It's topped with wasabi mayo and mango salsa. This was my 2nd favorite. But if I would come again I would still order it like this. I just like variety in my life. The special for that day was the Burger and Brew. It cost $10 and she could choose which beer she wanted. She choose the Lanikai 808 IPA it contained 8.1% alcohol. My sister may be tiny but she probably could beat you in a drinking game. It didn't come with fries. The burger is Puka's Classic Burger that comes with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. I wish the server let us know that it didn't come with fries so we could have ordered some. Service: I didn't see a hostess at the front so we sat ourselves. We were greeted right away. It was wonderful. She was totally working it. She was serving a large party. Everyone who was sitting on the high tops with us. She was very attentive. Kept our drinks filled, asked us how we were doing, took our plates away, etc. The staff worked as a team and other team members dropped off our food. On my receipt it states that our servers name is Buzz. Not sure if that's the name she told us in the beginning. Happy Hour: They do offer happy hour from 2pm-5pm daily. Reasonable prices for WHOLEFOODS. We paid $21 for two entrees (no drinks). I had the IPA battered fish n chips and furikake fries. My wife had the Kahala BLT. My was pretty good but I wished they cooked my fish a little longer. My wife didn't enjoy hers so much, as she didn't like the fried green tomato. A lot of outdoor seating and just flip the wooden block to FULL SERVICE to be served. Otherwise others are welcome to sit there to eat their WF takes out or drink coffee etc. Service was nice and fast. I've been on a mission to try new spots out because a lot of places have been opening up. Puka has been open for awhile but I still have yet to dine here. It was the perfect spot today because my friend met me for lunch in Kahala Mall and only had about an hour for lunch. It was a spot we both didn't try yet so we decided to dine here. When we walked in, we saw a sign to seat ourselves. It was pretty busy and all the tables were taken so we sat at the giant table in the middle of the restaurant. It worked out because we both could watch the game on their flat screen TV's. Our server quickly brought over the food and drink menus. Both menus were simple and made it easy for us to decide what we wanted. Our server came back and we ordered. We both ordered Da Big Kahuna Burger and a beer each. I ordered the Lanikai IPA and he had the hefeweizen. Our beers came out very cold and right after we ordered it. The food took awhile to come out but they were pretty busy. Our food came out perfect, my burger was medium rare and the fries came out crispy as I ordered it. The burger was juicy and fries weren't oily. Just a heads up if you ask for tabasco, they only have their version of hot sauce. Personally it tastes about the same and it's no biggie. Came in on a Friday for Happy Hour to try out their food. Super busy in this relatively small bar at around 4pm, but found three available seats at the bar for two of my friends and myself. The seating at the bar can accommodate about 6 people total, comfortably. There are more tables and chairs in the bar or even outside the Wholefood's area. They had Fish & Chips and a pint of beer for their Friday special of the day ($12). It was like getting the pint of beer for free, so why not? They gave two beer choices and I chose to add Rogue Dead Guy with my Fish & Chips. To my surprise, the beer came in the hydroflask pint cup which was awesome! I looked around to see if everyone in the restaurant got the same pint cup as my friends and I, but it looked like only guests that sat at the bar were lucky enough to receive their beers in this cup. The reason I say it's awesome is that I can take quite a long time to finish my beer and this hydroflask cup will keep my beer chilled for a long time. Back to what's important...the food. The Fish & Chips were quite tasty and it came with three big pieces of fish on top of a lot of french fries! I could not finish all of the fries. It actually looked like I didn't even touch my fries. They also give you some sort of vinegar sauce to put on the fish with a side of wasabi aioli. So Ono! I'm definitely coming back another day of the week for another special of the day. Lyla D. had invited me here a week before and I had no idea what she was talking about. I had texted her day of and she reminded me and reinvited me. Thank you for keeping me in your plans! It was Friday night, I was planning to stay in and rest due to stress from work. Lyla D. had me at fish and chips!!! I'm down! I had just got home and sat down but decided to quickly rush back out and beat traffic.. I still beat everyone there! I rather be early or on time. Others shouldn't have to wait for me. Unless I was invited very last minute and I knew I be late. Since I arrived to Kahala Mall at 430 and schedule meet was at 530. I went to Apple Store to charge my phone. Lyla D. and Ed D. arrived around 5 and we headed to Pukas to find a table. It was my first time. We found our table and decided to order the daily specials which on Friday was fish and chips and it comes with a choice of brew. I picked the cider with pineapple... Man that was delicious! You gotta try it! I had met Fran C. who had joined us on this adventure. Once he arrived they put in all the orders for our fish and chips. That way everyone's food arrived together! Puka's is Whole Foods' restaurant and bar. I've definitely become a fan over the last few months. Puka's has a dedicated inside eating area with a bar. It's nice except for the TVs. It'd be a great place to sit alone with one other person to see the selection of beers closer. The better option for seating is outside the main mall entrance. They have a permanent section of nice tables with cement benches and stools. While not the most comfortable, they get better with the more beers you drink. They have a great food list and daily weekday specials. I tried the Kahuna Burger and Fish & Chips. The former was big, perfectly grilled, and made so appetizing with all the sauces and toppings. The fries were also done perfectly. The latter was big pieces of dark fish, maybe tuna, fried to perfection while still so moist. I loved the malt vinegar. The beer/cider list is long, with lots of local and regional micro and craft choices. They have beer flights and specials. The kitchen closes around 8:30, so it's not a late night place. There's also another option for eating. On each table is a wooden block that you flip to specify full-service or self-serve. Using the latter, the waitstaff won't approach you as you get your own food and drinks in the store proper. This is a great way to save money on tips, while still having a pleasant night outside. I just became vegan after watching "what the health" on Netflix This is a great vegan place. There's vegan & vegetarian dishes & there's asterisk that specifies which is which. We ordered all the different rolls. It's pretty similar because the main ingredients were cucumber & avocado. Only difference is the sauce n the rice. I enjoyed all of them. The taro burger was delicious. I just wish the party was a little bigger. Looks like a meat burger n tasted almost like a meat burger. Had a little crunch to it because the outside was pan fried. French fries that came with it was good as well. I also had the cauliflower nachos n it wasn't like how I expected but it was still delicious. It's deep fried cauliflower with nachos toppings n a drizzle of sauce over it. I was expecting chips with it lol. It is a Whole Foods restaurant without the whole food crowd lol. Came here for dinner and lunch on different occasions. Both times I enjoyed the food and beer. Everyday they have a special, today was tacos and beer for 12. There were 3 different tacos: a Kalua pig, Fish taco and Steak taco. Steak taco was the tastiest one. It had cheese and sauce with it. And the beer that comes with the meal is so worth it. Other than the tacos, the burgers is so good. The Maui taro burger is just a local spin on traditional American burger. The bread is a little sweet. Also the poke nachos is something to order. $10 for a big platter of the nachos. I like the taste of the food and beers to choose from. I give this place 4 stars. read more

Puka's Another day, another meeting, this time in the Kahala area and I decided on lunch at Puka's. It was the second time I'd been there. The first was for pupus and drinks with wifey after a long afternoon of grocery shopping. I remembered from that time a Cauliflower Nacho dish on the Small Plates menu that I wanted to try. I walked in and was greeted within a minute. They said I could sit anywhere. A server came by and told me the special of the day was Fish and Chips with a beer. I knew from my previous experience that the Fish and Chips were really good but since I still had meetings to go to I had to reluctantly pass. The Cauliflower is fried (not exactly healthy but close enough that I could pretend) with chilies, pico de gallo, lime, cilantro, and an avocado lime crema. It was GOOD! I'm sure it was because the cauliflower was fried. It was a little salty and had a bit of crisp to it when you bite into it. The cilantro, avocados, and lime all just went together perfectly to offset the salt. It was very tasty and very, very filling. I had their 365 Lemonade along with it. That was okay. it wasn't anything special but if I was ever ordering again during restrictive hours of business I'd probably get it again. read more

Love that this is a part of Whole Foods. Food, cocktails and beer. I was only here for a brief trip and wanted to try some local brews before I flew out this afternoon. My cousin (a local) mentioned Whole Foods and I thought he was joking. But he wasn't! They have beer and wine tasting flights. I had a beer flight- 4, 4oz pours of beers $10 or less for ten bucks. They have a standard and seasonal drafts. Absolutely loved the Maui brewing imperial coconut stout and believe you me, you have not lived until you tried this. And it's only available at this location and Kailua. Creamier and higher ABV than your regular ol' coconut porter. Lots of seating, but probably can get crowded d/t the location and amount of foot traffic. Definitely an affordable place to check out some local brews and pupus. read more

Wow, I've found a new favorite place to hang out at Kahala mall. Although it's been hot as hell these past few weeks, it's actually nice to sit outside (in the shade) and be waited on with food and drink by the Puka's staff. There's a nice little indoor seating area too. Even their logo is cute (and in my favorite color--teal!). Who knew that whole foods would be able to serve food and drinks in that little outdoor seating area in front of whole foods and Starbucks? After renovating the area, that little side shop that used to be Cinnabon so long ago has turned into a restaurant that caters to diners who wish to sit outside. Next to a parking lot. Lol it's actually not too bad. There used to be large umbrellas used to shade customers sitting outside, but they blew down apparently and were removed. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The first time I went, there were a few blips: my menu was printed wrong; both sides of the sheet were for food, when it should have been one side for food, one for drinks. The waiter also made a mistake with our order. In both cases, the problem was fixed immediately and courteously. The menu has changed a couple times since Puka's opened. The sushi doesn't seem to be popular. I honestly haven't tried it either, but I do like the tacos and pizzas. We tried the Greek pizza, which I liked a lot. The tacos are also good; I think the beef one is my favorite. They have nice happy hour drink specials and daily food specials like a beer and taco combo for the price of just the tacos. It's kinda like getting a free beer with your food! I will definitely be back for some great people watching while munching on tacos. :) read more

6/14/2018 Thursday @3:45pm I had just came out of a movie and knew I had enough time to eat something before my 5pm class. As soon as I entered the bar I wasn't entirely sure if I should seat myself Or to wait for the waiter. I figured it Out when I noticed the menu in the window and when the bartender behind the bar said hello. There was a certain openness and "lounge" feeling to the entry. Like when you go to a Pub, or a night time bar where one has to get their drinks first before sitting. I then noticed that the side corner of Puka's has the front entry of Wholefoods. So that kinda evened out in terms of weird guessing on seating... I sat at the long table that's near the middle of the restaurant. It has enough room to Fit four couples comfortably or two Parties of 3-5 people each. Immediately the specials sounded great and ordered a pub burger with a drink. The special is the pub burger with one of the Beers on special. I didn't get that I stayed with the Pub Burger and a 360 soda. And paid the value of both which was less then the special- $13. I'll say the service is excellent and everyone is friendly. The sentiment of "Dont judge a book by its cover" comes to mind when I finally got my burger. The fries looked dry, but overall it was very tasty and the bun is soft and delicious! I'd stop there for a burger again. And maybe I might try one of the toast next time. Perhaps- maybe serving the sandwiches on a plate then in a basket and a pickle would be good. Otherwise- everything is a go on texture and flavor! read more
