This bbq was a much needed addition to the area. and, it's delicious. I had the pulled pork and it was juicy and tender. The spicy bbq sauce was flavorful and had a subtle kick. The macaroni and cheese had a crispy buttery topping and yummy seasonings. They are also about to start serving beer. It is the perfect local bbq joint. read more

Supposed to be good per Yelp and Trip Advisor but my family and I found it horrible! We had their $9.99 chicken special. Half a chicken. The worst part was that I'm not even sure the chicken was cooked all the way through! It looked red in some areas and even though we avoided eating those parts as best we could we were sick to our stomachs within minutes of leaving there. Traveling back to Phoenix we had to stop at a bathroom. All evening we were all sick. It's been eight hours and I'm still sick! My advice is to avoid this place! And just a side note, they ran out of diet soda! read more

"That was a lot of meat"- That is all I can say about Puny John's. I couldn't even finish my sandwich. I keep pulling meat out of it and putting it on my co dinner's plate. I'm not a big BBQ person, but I did like that you add your own sauce and had options. read more

The BEST! Holy Cow! Ordered the 1/3 rack of Ribs with 3 meats and a side. Added another side and it was enough food for my girlfriend and I to stuff our guts with absolutely delicious smoked brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. The Mac N Cheese was also out of this world! Actually had been getting discouraged trying to find decent food in this small town, Until I found this place. Ill be going back again before we leave! read more

We were told to go here and that the food was delish. It was okay at best. The food was luke warm and getting cold quickly. The hot dog was pretty good, I will agree on that with prior reviews, but the food was just okay. read more

Looking for a good BBQ place? Look elsewhere. The girl at the counter was very unfriendly. The young man was very friendly. It takes forever to order the food which you have to stand in line to do. Finally arrive at the counter and they are out of pulled chicken. Seriously....Strike one. This place is way overpriced and that is expected at a tourist trap but over $16 for a sandwich 2 sides and a drink is too much....Strike two. I like the pulled pork sandwich, even though the bun was very soggy and hard to eat. The BBQ sauce was OK but nothing special. You get two sides with the meal and I had the cole slaw and Mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was really good. I can get better cole slaw at Krogers or Frys supermarket, far better. I tried the wife's beans from her plate. They were the worst beans I have ever had. Maybe pancake syrup in them? Something was really off on the taste....Strike three. You can get a refill on your drink, if you want to wait in line again. We skipped that after noticing it was about 15 minutes for the line to cycle through. Overall I would not eat here but rather go to the Crystal Palace and have a great atmosphere, better food and lower prices. Live and learn, live and learn. read more

The pulled pork sandwich was good but you get two sides with that and they were out of the two I wanted macaroni and cheese and potato salad. read more

Food, meh. Sauces pretty good. Biggest problem is owner carries a gun while at work. That's his right, and it's my right to recommend stay away. How are you supposed to feel comfortable eating with that? read more

Ordered pulled pork sandwich with spicy beans and spicy Mack cheese a little pricey $15 dollars food was tasty but not very hot (Luke warm)

Carol, one of the cowgirls in town recommend this spot to us and recommend the Prime Rib French Dip which was absolutely delicious! We had the spicy Mac and cheese and the ham and baked beans and spicy baked beans that were all amazing and not too "spicy!" Just a hint of spicy. We shared and were stuffed! They also serve beer and Moscato wine read more

Ribs are delicious and tasty, beans and coleslaw delicious, nice patio to sit outside, loved it! Would go back!

Heard about this place so thought we'd go check it out. The place is a hole in the wall, no atmosphere and the food was horrendous and very expensive for what you got. I would not go back there again. The beans were dry and not a good flavor, all in all I say go someplace else, save your money don't eat there. read more

After reading the positive reviews I was looking forward to tasting the ribs. When we arrived on Saturday evening around 5:00 we were informed they had run out of both chicken and ribs. Sadly we went elsewhere for dinner. read more

Food was great.right prices! The own was very nice and ask what we liked and if we could suggest improvements. I liked the prickly pear BBQ sauce. There are 4-5 kinds to choose. Everything we r in tombstone we will go there! read more

Wow, what can I say? As a native Texan, I have had some really great BBQ ribs and have been hard pressed to find BQQ outside of Texas that gives us a run for the money. Now, that being said, Johns BBQ ribs were by far the best tasting, tender and moist ribs I've EVER tasted! The meat on the half rack I ordered literally fell right off the bone! The BBQ sauce was absolutely delicious, left me both in awe and speechless to the fact that a BBQ restaurant outside of Texas could serve such amazing BBQ! I had to ask the cashier to bring John out so that I could shake the hand of the man who made the best ribs I've ever had! After talking to John for about 5 minutes I came to realize that he does not cook for money, he cooks for people! He let me know that he smokes the ribs for 20 hours and the BBQ sauce is homemade by he and his wife! Now, not many restaurants will put that much time, money and effort into making a true, one of a kind meal, John does not produce a meal, he creates a meal, you can taste the hard work, time and passion put into every bite you take. Please, pay no attention to the negative reviews, they are nothing but anomalies. This restaurant is the very definition of southern hospitality and southern cooking! I was even taken aback by how the sweet tea was so pleasing. Every aspect of my meal went together hand in hand. I could not have asked for a better way to cap off an amazing first time in Tombstone, AZ. John, with those ribs you are welcome in Texas anytime! read more

Puny John's BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Tombstone, Arizona

Good selection of food. Mac and cheese had good flavor but really greasy. The sliders are good portion sizes and good price. Food was hot. A better choice in Tombstone. read more

My husband is picky when it comes to BBQ meat but he was pleasantly surprised when I suggested Puny John's BBQ based on other Yelp reviews. It was excellent, juicy, tender and the sides were delicious. The smoked turkey sandwich was tender and the various sauces were excellent. Try the Hot Ass BBQ sauce! I preferred the Wussy Sauce and the Prickly Pear. The grandkids loved the smoked sausage hot dogs. This is a must try when visiting Tombstone. read more

Puny John's BBQ is incredible! Meat melts in your mouth along with mouth watering side dishes! The owner John was super nice and sat with us at our table then gave us a tour of his smoking room! So fun! Thank you for the awesome food and hospitality! Highly recommend!!! read more

This place was so good!!! Their prime rib was so tender and their mac and cheese is a must try!

Fabulous BBQ joint and the ribs are to die for!! Potato salad is awesome as well. Clean and well maintained. Perfect location. Staff is friendly and the owner is usually perusing the dining room checking on customers. Will definitely be back! I can see why they are ranked one of the best in the state. So worth the trip! read more

Delicious French dip! Puny John stopped by to make sure everything was good. Not much for atmosphere. No alcohol.

Disappointing. The ribs had a lot of fat. Dry on the outside. Mac n cheese was over cooked.

Great BBQ. Gracious owner. He even showed us the smokers. Tri-tip and ribs were excellent.

My wife and I were in Tombstone for the day, and were originally planning on eating when we got back to Tucson. But then, we smelled it, the unmistakable smell of slow-cooked meats. Meats of the best variety. We had to know where this glorious scent was coming from. We looked left, down 4th Street and saw a sign for Puny John's, a glorious BBQ oasis in this desert of food, called Tombstone. After reading some reviews on trusty ol' Yelp, we decided this was the place. We were immediately and pleasantly surprised by the clean, bright atmosphere of this old west town-eatery. We were greeted by a cashier who told us to sit where we like and handed us a couple menus. But we knew what we wanted as soon as we walked in. They had brisket nachos on special for the day and nothing else would do it for us. We opted for the nachos, add jalapeños, and picked up some of their house-made BBQ sauces, all of which were delicious in their own respects. The Habanero sauce was quite good, but our favorite was the extra spicy sauce they kept in back, which had quite a kick. Perfect with their tender, flavorful brisket. The nachos, along with their fresh-made coleslaw and some sweet tea was the perfect combo to end our Tombstone visit. The best part is, we split the plate and were comfortably full. Also, I forgot to take a picture because I had a face full of nachos by the time I realized my omission. read more

The food was great. Like they say falling of the bone. The staff was friendly and happy to serve. We wish we had another day to try more of the BBQ. We are already planning our next trip so we can try some of the other meats. read more

Ate here and the food was very good. People were polite and keep the counters and tables clean. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good meal at a fair price. read more

Tried the brisket, pulled pork, ribs, coleslaw and mac & cheese. BBQ sauces were very tasty. Best BBQ in southern AZ & great service!

As soon as we left the parking lot on Fremont street we could smell the BBQ. As we walked by, a gentleman came out to talk to us about the restaurant. On our way back to the truck we decided to purchase some brisket to take back to our trailer. Wow! The meat was flavorful, yet lean the way we like it. We tried two of the sauces, both great. We will defiantly go back. So wonderful to have good food in Tombstone. read more

We were in Tombstone and had lunch here on day one. The food was awesome, prices reasonable and the service incredible. The owners did a great job interacting with the patrons and i wold highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The meat looked and tastes like it was boiled and had no smoke flavor. We had ribs, pork and brisket. All the meat tasted the same and no real flavor. The beans tasted like Bush's beans that they added bacon, some BBQ sauce and heavy on some spice I think was cumin. Had to throw them away. Sauces were ho hum You would have to like vinegar based BBQ sauce, which I do not. The mac and cheese again was just ho hum. My husband and I would never go there again and considered it a waste of $50. If you want some good BBQ go to Rudy's in Chandler, AZ or all over Texas. read more

We had the St. Louis ribs and baked beans and they were fantastic! We ordered the full slab of ribs and left the place stuffed. The chef smokes them for 12 hours and puts a nice rub on them. The price was very reasonable and we highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Was at Puny Johns BBQ last weeka couple of times and the food was excellent each time.!!! The ribs just fall off the bone and the rub he uses to season them is so good! The brisket is so full of good taste it is like a party in your mouth~~~ As it is with the chicken.........The pork has that pleasing smoky flavor...The baked beans and mac and cheese are to die for!!!!!! SO GOOD is what I can say about all the food served there! The green beans are cooked with some ham that flavor them so well.......Not like grandma used to make for sure.. Would not hesitate to go back there and eat again and again. Anyone in Arizona should take the time and go on a side trip to PUNY JOHNS BBQ in Tombstone for a most enjoyable meal, whether it be the delicious and plenty platters they serve or their sandwiches or just one of the sides (mac and cheese, baked beans, etc.)..........you will not regret the trip and your mouth will not forget the wonderful taste of these delicious items read more

Puny John's just recently opened. What great food! Two of us shared a half rack of ribs and some slaw and beans for lunch. The meal was reasonably priced and super tasty. The ribs had awesome smoked flavor and were really tender. The beans were also very tasty and the slaw was fresh and yummy. John took the time to visit with us, gave us a few cooking tips, and even invited us to look at his smokers. Don't leave Tombstone without trying John's ribs. read more

Southern arizona was in desperate need for a good BBQ joint, and Puny Johns met that need! The food is amazing and comes out quick. The brisket was good, could've been a bit more moist, but good brisket is hard to come by outside of Texas and this was the best I've had anywhere besides top bbq joints in texas. The hot dog the best I've ever had!! Both the brisket and hot dog had a rich smoke flavor that is lacking in most bbq places. The mac and cheese was amongst the best I've ever had, gooey, cheesy, deliciousness. Coleslaw was above average, creamy but not overly laden with mayonnaise. Service was a bit lacking, not a real refined way of food ordering and although mostly polite, workers just seemed overwhelmed even tough there wasn't a ton of customers. I'm sure they will refine their service as the business grows. The quality, large portions, and reasonable price of food definitely makes up for what is lacking in service. Food for 3 people was under $30, unheard of for quality bbq. I live 30 minutes from Tombstone but Puny Johns is worth the drive. Can't wait to go back and try the ribs. read more

What a great place to grab a bite to eat! The barbecuing smelled fantastic and a lady on the corner offered us 10% off. We were glad we stopped in. The Grill master himself stopped by to ask us how our food was and if there was anything they could do better. Clearly he takes pride in his restaurant. Everything was tasty- We ordered their tri-tip sandwich meal special with homemade Mac 'n cheese and Since we wanted to sample everything we got the 6 sliders- two chicken, two pork and two beef brisket. They don't soak the meat in BBQ sauce. They serve you smoked tasty meat on wonderful buns and you can add your own sauce. They had a nice selection of sauce We liked the Prickly Pear sauce the best! The food, the Air Conditioned restaurant and a tombstone Sasparilla went down nice and smooth. No heartburn either! Everything was excellent- Moist and tender with No fat No Gristle! Just the way we would make it. Delicious! read more

Great stop for the family, we got the brisket sandwiches super delicious followed by mac and cheese. The 3 stars are solely for the food itself. We walked in and the girls working the register were talking amongst themselves as if we weren't there. Mind you we are a family of 5 no way anyone could have missed that. Finally after 2 minutes they saw us! We ordered, they asked for my husbands name for the order. Had to repeat it 4 times and we were the only ones there haha.. The young female employees were ignorant to the point where they kept staring at me every time they walked past our table. I asked one of the waiters (female) for 3 small plates for my kids and got a nasty look from her. Aside from that, the owner of the restaurant stopped at our table after we finished our meal had a nice chat with him very humble guy. I would recommend more training for the employees working the front part of the business. Food perfectly deliciously incredible food! read more
