Great place in the South Side for traditional El Salvadoran food. The Pupusas are spot on. Lots of varieties of ingredients for the pupusas. Go here for the El Salvadoran food like quesadillas (not the mexican kind), pupusas, atol and horchata (again not the mexican kind). If you want mexican food they have some but you are better off going somewhere else. To me this is a top 3 pupusa place in the city and the best in the south side. read more

Had a layover at Chicago Midway for 2 hours, just enough time for me & my lady to make a dash out of the airport for a bite to eat. We were the only customers, so service was great + fast. Good chips & it's nice that they have an assortment of salsas to choose from. On to the food! I ordered 3 pupusas, all of which were delicious (I'm honestly too lazy to look at the menu right now, but it was one each of pork, steak, and chicken). They were so filling, I definitely could have just gone with 2 (though I'm definitely not complaining, haha). My girlfriend got the chicken quesadilla, which was delicious as well. I've never had a deep-fried quesadilla like that before - I've only ever had them fried via pan/skillet. The meat was, of course, delicious. Even though we came from out of town and won't be able to make it back any time soon, I knew I had to write a review because this is the kind of place you do NOT want to lose in your neighborhood - it's a small gem with HUGE potential. Patron this spot to support your local restaurants, and I promise you won't be disappointed - everything we had was top-tier, and one thing I forgot to mention is that for a hole in the wall, the interior seems spotless - just another plus in my book. The quality of food here is high enough that it should well become a neighborhood staple that lasts for generations. If you think this is hyperbole, I made a new account because I lost my old one and have broken a years-long dry spell of reviewing just to recommend this place. A favorite of mine in the area. I have tried 3 of the pupusas (revuelta, elote con rajas, chicharron) and crepes de cajeta and plantains all of the items were delicious. The pupusas are larger than the pictures posted show (but Im not complaining). They cook the items as they are ordered so if you are in a hurry phone your order in. This place is legit. Pupusas are delicious. The slaw makes the meal. I added sour cream and ate it like a taco, out of this world. Chicharron was awesome and the steak. Had a pollo quesadilla and while it was like no other quesadilla ive ever had, it was so good! Nachos didnt hold up to the ride (what was I thinking?) but thats ok. I visited a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the pupusas very much! I ordered five pupusas: carne asada, flor de calabaza, revuelta, loroco y rajas. They were all delicious, but our favorites were the loroco (which we had never eaten before, and will definitely order again) and flor de calabaza. I also ordered un atole de piña, which was a bit too sweet for my taste, but yummy, nonetheless. We finally topped it off with platano frito con crema, which was also pretty good. The wait was not too bad, and the inside of the restaurant is quite cute & I enjoyed the quotes on the walls and decor. Appreciated that the pupusas were made fresh & the sizes were just right. If you place an order for pick up, just have in mind that when you go to pick it up, you might need to wait 40 minutes more and then to find out that they still don't know what you ordered (after them asking you 5 times). This place is legit!! Very traditional popusas with curtido. It's a must try guys. I've been coming here since they opened and it's sooo good every single time. Besy thing is that they made it to order so it's always fresh. You might have to wait a little longer but it will be worth it. Was disappointed at this spot :( I've tried pupusas at different spots and these just did not cut it for me. The cheese I thought was super low quality. So delicious! First time trying pupusas and I'm blown away. The poblano and the chicken are my favorite. Served hot and fresh with a side of vinegary slaw. They are as big as your face and filling. I can almost get through 2 before the white towel goes up. You cannot beat the flavor or the prices!! Do yourself a favor and try the horchata. Once I get there the 1st thing it caught my attention was the minimalist furniture. Simple and clean. Now the menu: if you're looking for an extensive Salvadorian menu here is very limited. Is a Mexican restaurant with Salvadorian dishes. That's been said the Papusas were in point. They do not have all the varieties and even have some "Mexicanized" versions, but overall very good and fresh. Even they have the Salvadorian Horchata.I just would love they do have the tamales de elote (Salvadorian version), and pupusas de chipilin. For beginners, it will be OK to start, but for a truly Salvadorian food experience I'll recommend another place. read more

Let me start this review by saying the Food is great! I'll get straight to the point. Short version: My order of 3 pupusas took over 1 hour to complete. Which means 1 deep dish pizza from Giordanos cooks quicker! I'm still mind blown. Read below. Let me elaborate. Last night I went into the restaurant with a group of close friends, and my siblings. I walked in, placed my order. My group and I all placed individual orders. In total 5 separate orders. Each of our orders consisted of 2-3 pupusas. 30 minutes later, we are still standing in the back of the restaurant. No one in my group has received their order. When we asked how much longer it would take, they mentioned it would be an additional 30 minutes. Are you serious? We all left and came back for our orders. Granted, the place was busy. No apology was offered. No initial communication was made mentioning that it would take 1 hour for pupusas. I felt left in the cold and disrespected as a customer in the local area. This is bad business, and I will not be coming back due to slow and disorganized service. TLDR A group of close friends and my siblings came here. It took them a little bit over 1 hour for them to make 3 pupusas. This is unacceptable. A deep dish pizza cooks quicker than 3 pupusas. read more

I will recommend the loroco pupusa (my new fave). The corn (elote) atole is so good! We tried: Revuelta, Chicharron, Pollo, Calabaza, and Jalapeño. I was pretty hungry and 2 were enough. They came with sauces and slaw style salad- which I'm not sure the name of. Love the food here! My favorites would have to include the flor de calabaza pupusa, Mexican hot chocolate, and the cajeta crepes. The owner, chefs, and waitresses are extremely kind and offer samples for all their different drinks. The atole de elote is pretty good as well, and you can never go wrong with agua de Tamarindo. Everything is extremely clean. It can get pretty cold in there with people constantly opening the door, so bring a sweater. read more

What a hidden gem- I pass this restaurant quite often and never noticed it! I brought my parents in after a long day of shopping and we were surprisingly pleased. A cute store-front sit down place, you sit and the waitress comes your way. I was surprised by the pupusa portion because it is quite generous- I filled up with one and that never happens. I ordered the steak torta and the horchata. The steak torta was your average torta. I typically judge a Mexican restaurant by the type of horchata they have. I have to say this was the most unique tasting horchata I have ever tried. The horchata had a strong peanut butter flavor to the drink along with the usual horchata flavor. So glad we finally tried this terrific Salvadoron place in our neighborhood! We ate in and received prompt, friendly service. They start you with a basket of tortilla chips and three squeeze bottles of sauces for your food. Food is delicious! We had the sweet plantains, and two pupusas, which came with carrot/cabbage slaw. I was in the area and seriously craving pupusas which I hadn't had in a couple of YEARS. So I looked up Salvadoran food near Midway and this place was PERFECT! The prices were reasonable, they gave me so much food and it was fairly quick. I did order my food to go and just wish I'd gotten the free chips & salsa that they give you if you dine in. I ordered the pan quesadilla and it was extremely dry and overcooked, everything else was delicious. I highly recommend the Pupusas with queso con loroco (an edible flower that looks & tastes vaguely of green beans).
