I used to come here a lot due to being owned by a local, fast service and really good options on the menu, but recently I do know they have been a little low staffed and they have cut down their menu options on food items, causing it to be a inconvenience. This place has been my mom and I's go to recently! Our favorites are the abuelita latte and the blueberry matcha. Prices are great for the size. The matcha is definitely on the sweeter side but like I said for the price, you can't go wrong! For two medium matchas I paid around $13. Other places are half the size for twice the cost. A great addition to the DT coffee scene that isn't SB! I've been here a few times, and I will say the wait times are hit or miss. Some days they will be super fast, while others I've had to leave just because the line of cars were spewing into the street or just completely in the way. But those small factors aside, the quality of coffee and small bites are amazing. The toasted Spanish latte is hands down my favorite coffee right now. Quaint little drive thru and the Barista was very helpful in explaining the drinks. I loved the Abuelita coffee with the wonderful poems of chocolate but not too heavy. My husband enjoyed the close thing to Cafe de olla. That was suggested by the Barista The only reason why I wouldn't return is the circling of the unfortunate hovering around our vehicle and even standing front of it asking for money. Missed the mark for me which is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to trying Pura Vida out. I went by and grabbed the Brazilian lemonade because it sounded delicious. Staff was very friendly and got my order taken care of and exchanged some pleasantries while I waited for my drink. The drink itself was a miss, I was looking for some nice sour bite from the lime but it was borderline bitter and felt like I was chewing on a lime rind with the aftertaste. It had notes of sweetness to it from the milk and passionfruit but overall it was just a miss and I didn't enjoy it. Add on that it was nearly $7 just for a medium and it's an even bigger letdown. Usually it's a good visit, my mom went alone, English is not her strongest language, she ordered a banana cream matcha, and was given a poorly made drink, no banana cream, doesn't even look correct. She went back and I had to, talk through the phone to ask for the correct drink, which makes me think the baristas scam Spanish speaking customers. Obsessed is an understatement! What an adorable addition to downtown Bakersfield! I love the whole coffee scene in our small town but this drive thru really takes the cake ya'll! Latin owned & inspired local coffee shop? Sign me up! I've already been a few times because that's just how amazing their drinks are! The downtown latte is hands down my favorite but I also loved the brown sugar macchiato. Service : 10/10 everyone is so sweet & knowledgeable about the menu to help you narrow it down to what to try! When having a cashier please make sure she knows how to give change. I paid her 10$ she input 20$ into the machine and was confused at how to give me my change back. Not only did she give me the wrong change back in coins but now she will be short on the 10$ extra she added to my receipt. I asked her for a small drink in a medium cup with extra ice. Like, that business isn't yours employees! How do you read an order wrong or do you do it on purpose because you charge before you make the coffe and if we dont tip, we customers get bad food/wrong orders. Aren't tips based on experience, so give a good coffee experience. I hope the owner or management shows this post to the employees. You dont dictate weather somone recives a good coffee. Just do your job and make the drinks (as the owner intends) and if the customer wants to tip you, they will!!! You employee can be the deciding factor if Pura Vida makes it or quit go to a large corporation and s@%t on their customers without hurting the person that opened Pura Vida. From this place we tried Brown Sugar Macchiato, Dulce de Leche Latte, & Horchata Cappuccino. I stirred, I shook, I mixed, no matter what I did I couldn't get them to taste good. I had to stop drinking mine because it made my tummy hurt. The others tasted like flavored bean water. They were also very greedy with their ice. I'm sad I wasted my hard earned money & gas. I just ordered and i am so disappointed with the quality of their food. I ordered two breakfast burritos and the first bite that I took it literally tasted like sulfur. It tasted like it had been sitting out or has been in the fridge for too long. The burrito was soggy at the bottom and the tasted old. I paid for two medium drinks and two burritos and it costed 30 dollars. the quality of their food did not meet the the price point!!! I wanted to support a local business but sadly, I felt like my money should've went next-door to McDonald's and I would've gotten better quality food. Their Matcha that I ordered as well was just one scoop of Matcha powder and the rest was milk. The only thing that was halfway decent was the lavender latte but three out of four items and paying $30 is not acceptable!!! read more

Have enjoyed everything I have tried over multiple trips. The refreshers, energy drinks, and of course the coffees. Toasted marshmallow, lavender latte, dulce de Leche, all have been great. So far nothing has been super sweet (we haven't tried the frappes yet). You may need to bring patience as they can get slammed, and they are a small operation, but don't worry, add a few minutes to your day they are working hard. Pura Vida is such an interesting little joint! There are so many coffee spots on this block alone, so I'm intrigued by them opening up here but I hope it works out for them! The parking lot can get a little chaotic but there are 2 windows and a speaker which helps a bit with the line. I really haven't tried anything other than the Downtowner because I tried it once and now I'm addicted and get it like every time I'm in the area. I have tried a few of the breakfast foods which are pretty good, but I definitely don't like the added mayo on the breakfast sandwiches. They're already heavy and greasy so mayo just gets overly salty/savory for me with no balance. This is definitely the place to come and order their specialty menu items, don't bother ordering your regular average drink you'd get anywhere because that probably won't be very memorable. However, the curated menu items are very good. I did get my daughter a refresher today and realized almost all of them have nothing to caffienate you, so just be aware of that. They also do not carry black tea, which disappointed my husband because that's his only drink he gets when we go to coffee shops. I think the staff is friendly but nothing really memorable, honestly a bit slower than most of these more local stand shops I go to in town but overall very polite interactions. The outside decor is cute (mural on the building) and the menu is very easy to read. I definitely think this is the kind of place you just have to try out and see for yourself! read more
