I enjoy their smoothies throughout the year and all summer it's shave ice! Their flavors are so good - Li Hing Mui is my favorite. Why a 1 star rating? We are in a pandemic and our county has been a hot spot for a long time and every time we come here (a couple times a week, all summer) employees aren't wearing masks. At the drive-thru they lean out the window to take your order, and are less than an arm's length away without a mask. Employees bring your food to your car - without a mask. It's completely irresponsible to have employees working in such a small space and serving the public without a face covering. I have submitted my concern to the owner via her website and never received a response. I believe it's against county guidelines for a business to have employees without masks, but this owner doesn't seem to care. read more

Apparently the owners do not give a sh*t about their customer's or employee's health!!!!! I just went to get shaved ice and noticed about 8 employees inside without masks...INCLUDING the old lady who is the owner. The girl who took our order in the drive through came out of the window basically into our car to hear our order!!! Luckily we had our masks on but if they are this reckless during a global pandemic I wonder how reckless they are about to be over cleanliness. They made us pull up and wait for our order and then the girl walked out and gave us our shaved ice and the spoon was in her hand no napkin no nothing. I am NEVER coming back here again!!!!! My kids were very excited to try this shaved ice place and so was I due to this weather. As the car in front of us drove and was away from the window I overheard a very racist comment come out of the owner's mouth saying that the mexican lady who had ordered wasnt even from this country. Drove way from Turlock to beat the closing time that was posted as 8:30 on maps and on their website. I get there at 7:57 to find the open signs still on with the lights on as well so I pulled up to the drive thru. While I'm sitting there the man working sees me and rushes to turn off the open lights then ignores me for the 3 minutes I'm sitting there. I try to wave him down to ask if they're closed but he blatantly ignored me then finally made I contact and gave me a look. I proceeded to pull up to the front of the store and call the number and the lady who picked up, I'm assuming the owner, told me that they close early whenever business is slow. That's understandable but it's an inconvenience to customers when you just close whenever and you can at least address the people waiting that had no idea of the time change. It's a common courtesy and good customer service. read more

I've gone here for years but the customer service I got tonight was absolutely shocking. We asked for flower cups at the window because of less spilling in the car. Which seemed fine until they were bringing out our order in the togo cups. When asking for the flower cups (again), the Employee raised her voice at us and blamed us for a long line and said we were asking for something they don't normally do, even though that was never communicated to us when ordering. I tried speaking with her calmly but was immediately cut off by her degrading tone and blatantly rude remarks. The rest of our order was brought out half filled and horribly prepared. on purpose. I've worked in customer service for 2 years and can say I've never spoken to a customer the way I was spoken to tonight, nor have I ever purposely prepared an order horribly to prove a point. Would be a completely different review if everything was explained to us in a reasonable matter. I took a friend here from out of town and I am so embarrassed that this is the first impression he got. Will be calling tomorrow. This a fun and summer must for our family. Pura Vida has an awesome menu that includes kettle korn, smoothies and other tasty treats. Our favorites are the shaved ice. They come in three sizes...small, medium and large and a huge selection of flavors. You can even do more than one flavor at a time, our family does 3...ie cherry, lime and fruit punch. They even give you a card and after so many punches you get a free shaved ice. Try it you will love it!!!! read more

We normally go here for our shaved ice, but I think from now on we'll make the extra trip to Manteca to get our shaved ice instead. We ordered at a slow time when there was only one other customer in line and they still got our order wrong. We ordered "the works" on our rainbow shaved ice's and they charged us for it but it didn't come with the sweet cream or icecream. We also ordered a small kettle corn, but it tasted like soap. It had a really heavy frangrance to it like flowers, and we smelled the bag and the bag that the kettle corn came in was scented. I wonder if maybe they ordered the wrong bags on accident, or maybe they're storing the bags next to a glade plug in or something but either way we threw it away as it was completely inedible. Traveled across town to go to Pura Vida with 3 of my kids tonight, the hours online said they close at 9:30 and when we got there at 8:17 the window said 830. The place was shut down. That's all ok, I understand.....BUT the customer service I received from Janessa or Janelle was completely SHOCKING. She was so rude I was in disbelief. Her attitude and bobbing her head and hand movements were beyond disrespectful. All I asked is where it stated the hours since I drove across town. They aren't true to their hours and the staff are very rude. They close a half an hour early every night and get angry if you go in when they're trying to clean up. They should put their actual hours when they close. Here's a photo of pura vida on a Friday night and they close st 10,but the place is dark and workers are in the back clean at 9:30. Normally this place is one of my favorite spots in Modesto however today I was very disappointed. While waiting for our order we noticed an employee was not wearing a mask while handling the food and taking orders. It's been a year since the lockdown and with Covid cases still on the rise it is unacceptable and disgusting for an employee in food service to not follow guidelines. Shaved ice was pretty great, however the employees and this older woman who is probably the owner or manager, they were NOT wearing masks, only one employee who was a male was the only one wearing a goddamn mask. We're still in the middle of a goddamn pandemic, of course vaccines help but that doesn't mean you can go full on out and not follow the mask protocol. This is disgusting. Have eaten here for a long time. But very disappointed that a small is the same size as a large now. They filled a large to almost the top but not past. But a small they mountain over a small like a normal shaved ice should be shaped. So when we got home we pooped the large out into a cup and pored the small into the large cup and it was the same amount. read more

Pulled up to their drive through and ordered a large shaved ice with three flavors and no add ins. There were two vehicles ahead of me waiting for their orders. After ordering I pulled forward as directed then waiting 10+ minutes as I watched four vehicles that arrived and ordered after me being served their multiple items. I was then approached by the same young lady who had taken my order and asked to pull up, which would have placed my vehicle in the way of others driving through the parking lot. I asked what was going on with my order and why those behind me were being served before me though I was in line and had been waiting, I was then asked if I was still waiting for an order. I asked and was told that they do not have call ahead ordering yet she could not answer why others were served and I was still waiting. She explained that "Everyone in there is stressed". Because I was asked to pull forward, I left the line and pulled forward into a parking spot and continued to wait but I again observed others behind me being served. Eventually I walked up to the side window and asked for my money back. I was given a refund and offered my order, but when asked what I had ordered I understood that I'd have to wait, again! The top was extremely bland as it was packed with ice on top but it seems the bottom of the cup was mostly liquid when received.. only ate the top and threw the rest of it away. YES! As every other person on here has said, it has satisfied my Hawaiian shaved ice craving ever since I visited back in 2008. Dropped by here today with the family and had a tasty experience. The location is easy to find, even though it is in an odd Old Western themed strip mall. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the super friendly employees. There were about 5 people behind their counter cranking out the tasty goods. I went ahead and ordered the Tiger's Blood & Orange with Sweet Cream in a small and believe it or not, the small is definitely enough! They pack it in there and it is one of the most satisfying desserts I've had in a while that didn't leave me filled with regret. Anyway, kinda glad this is all the way in Modesto, otherwise I would be here every damn day. read more
