Sassy new locks thanks to my favorite new stylist Cha'ron!! So happy to have finally have found a local stylist that does everything she can to make you feel at home in her chair and happy with a new look. I was feelin spontaneous and ready for some sort of balayage/ombré . I first called Gary Manuel because I've heard great things about their salon. When I talked to the receptionist I was asked who I wanted to see and exactly what I wanted. I told them I was 23 and wanted a fun sassy new look with a balayage. This wasn't enough of a clear response so I was asked multiple questions about specifics (partial foil, foil, etc)..which i didn't have answers to because I just wanted a stylist who would sit give me the time of day to talk through what would look good. Needless to say, I hung up and looked up somewhere more local with good reviews.... The Pure alchemy staff are all incredibly welcoming, they had me at hello! Had the worst experience with Pure Alchemy Salon. After emailing me a reminder about my appointment, they closed the salon without any notification. It was the hottest day of the century registering 100 degrees while I waited for my stylist. I am a senior citizen and this was most unhealthful for me. I understand if the salon closed due to the temperature. However, I received no notification that they were closing, there was no information on their website, no voicemail message on their answering machine and no simple note on their front door. Instead of an apology, I received an excuse that perhaps they didn't have my contact information. Four days later I received an email from the stylist giving me an entirely different reason for their closure that day. Not only did they not communicate with me but apparently they didn't get their story straight with each other. If you value customer service, do not go to Pure Alchemy Salon. read more

I picked Pure Alchemy because of the good reviews and because it's up the street from my house. I chose to make an appointment with Cha'ron based on all the reviews she had on Yelp. She did not disappoint. I never had such a thorough consultation about my hair before. For the cut itself, I didn't have a picture with me or anything to show her what I wanted, I just did my best in describing what I was thinking. She gave me the exact cut I was looking for. I ran into a woman on a bus 16 years ago who had the most gorgeous color. She had three tones in her hair and it was so beautifully applied. I asked her who she went to and she gave me Coleen's number. I have used Coleen ever since that day. Her highlights are so finely done and you never get those chunky tiger stripes. She mixed great shades and knows exactly the shade that will compliment your particular skin tone. I love talking with her and being in this salon is so relaxing. It is not hectic or crazy. I saw Colleen, and I can tell she is not only talented, she is well trained. She knows cut and color, sometimes hard to get in a stylist. We also talked about my cut into the future, as I plan to do some color changes over the next year or so, she got it! I also really love the vibe there. The stylists have their own clients, but it is clear that they collaborate and talk to each other, to make any client's experience a good one. I used to travel a lot for work, and I have had cut and color all over the world. Some good, some terrible. Pure Alchemy was excellent. I found the cost very reasonable, considering the quality of the color products, and the result I got. They don't have surprise extras. You can also book online, which I find really convenient. I came to this salon because of the Yelp reviews. I've come to the conclusion that probably most of you are friends of the owner or just older people because my experience was completely different. This place is good for the elderly crowd but not very young and hip. I saw that the owner was a celebrity stylist so I figured, hey this place is good! But she is actually on maternity leave. I was very clear in what I wanted and the lady gave me the the frumpy and old version of the style I wanted. Not only that, I had to remind her what style I wanted because I noticed she was drying my hair without cutting it properly. Most likely NOT going here again unless the owner comes back. Then MAYBE. Plus I know it's organic but, even though you use organic shampoo, it doesn't give you the right to charge $50 for a regular haircut. read more

If I could give more stars, I would.. Danyale is soooooooo talented. I worked with her on a photo shoot type situation, and will now recommend her to EVERYONE i know. She handled so many different types of hair in such short order, complete with creating an AMAZING corn-row type braid on one of the African-American models. She is a true artist, taking the shape of the face of her client and their style and hair type into consideration. I will now drive to Columbia City from north Ballard to have her cut my hair, because she just rocks. I have seen a lot of "wedding hair" (I'm a photographer) and what Danyale did was the best I've ever seen in Seattle or Boston. This place is fantastic. I have been to Pure Alchemy twice and Danyale (the stylist) has done an A+ job each time. I had her do color the second time I was in and it turned out perfect. The location is cozy and has a relaxing atmosphere. What's even better is the on street parking is free, or there is a lot next door for a mere 50 cents an hour. She is super sweet, her prices are great, especially living in Seattle, one of the highest priced city in the US for a haircut, and she will give you exactly what you want. Nona is very communicative which is great for me because I always have a very odd and specific thing that I want to do with my hair. Since COVID-19 interrupted our lives, I haven't been to get my hair cut (or colored) until now. I made an appointment with Colleen and had a really nice experience at Pure Alchemy. The salon is in an old home and they only have one stylist and one customer at a time. I got to my appointment early, so I sat in the entry room while Colleen finished up with her client. She proceeded to clean and sanitize the chair and hair station after the other client was done. She provided me with a face mask and was good about listening to exactly what kind of hair cut I wanted. My last cut I did myself, out of an act of desperation- Colleen assured me that I wasn't the only person coming in with wonky hair cuts people had given themselves. I got a nice chocolate brown for my hair and a smart cut that I'm really pleased with. Colleen asked me mid-cut if it was to my liking and when I asked for it to be shorter, she obliged. Conversation was easy and she did a great job. Super excited to have found a new stylist in South Seattle. read more

Went in to have my hair done by Cha'ron. I was kinda nervous and not sure of the outcome as I have not haf much success with salons. I have to say I am really impressed with the service grom beginning to the end. I have fine freezy hair that is hard to manage. I have been wearing my natural hair"no chemical" for five years. I shared my fruatration of dealing with my hair. Cha'ron listened and came up with a successful solution. She put me under the hooded mister and used the morracoin oil treatment. For the first time in years my hair is still bone straight 4 days after leaving the shop. She even gave me solutions to fight the freeze at home which as worked magic. Just got a haircut from Cha'ron, and it is perfect. I have a pixie cut and she listened to exactly what I want.

I had been very excited to try out Pure Alchemy as I am a new resident in Columbia City and the Seattle area. What better then to hopefully find a fantastic salon just around the corner from home? Unfortunately, I will never know. After showing up promptly to my appointment at 4:30, Cha'ron my stylist, approaches saying she was just calling me to let me know she was going to need to push back my appointment by 45 minutes as she was still working on balayage treatments on 2 girls. What is more frustrating about this is I received an email blast from the salon the day prior with a balayage deal for the day of my appointment. Clearly, she had just booked as many appointments as she could while not taking into consideration my already scheduled time. Cha'ron was not apologetic and even mentioned she would not hurry to get to me. She offered to reschedule my appt (great, I could arrange to leave work early AGAIN another day). I found her approach rude and the situation quite disrespectful regarding my time. Beth, the owner, was there and didn't have much but "sorry" to add. I hope that they work on not overbooking their appointments in the future which is what obviously happened with the email blast and placing more value on their client's time. read more
