Was very excited to try this place. Walked in the door and thought great things. NEVER COMING BACK! We arrived at 02:38 and left at 04:25. We had a party of 8 (6 adults 2 kids), the place wasn't very busy. 15 minutes to receive drinks and addition 30 to get our appetizers. Appetizers were OK, they were very greasy. Weren't asked if we were ready to order our actual meal until the 35 minute mark. At one time we had all agreed to tell the waitress to cancel the order because we were hungry and had been waiting for 48 minutes. She didnt show for an addition 12 minutes but happen to show up with half of our order. Addition 8 minutes until the food came. This is where it ruined it for us. 3 people had room temperature food and one person had order the crawfish po boy and recieved a catfish po boy (not big deal) BUT I had called the waitress over to address why it was wrong and asked if the lid to the pepper shaker had fallen off. She had owned to accidentally hearing cat fish instead of craw fish but she never did get me an answer from the cooks. The waitress had went and hid in the kitchen for the next 20 minutes after we had our issue. That one messed up order was refunded. Dont expect to be able to dry your hands in the bathroom, get refill on drinks, or recieve good customer service. We had to stop one waitress to find our waitress and wow we must of offended her. Never seen such a bitch attitude towards anyone. I usually keep very calm and understand because I have worked that life before but i have never had this happen. I hope management reads this and pulls all shift employees together and fixes this problem. read more

We took our ball team there loved it. Not all places are happy to see a team show up, and they welcomed us with smiles. Our food was excellent, and the sweet tea was really good. Our table enjoyed crab cakes, shrimp poboys, chicken quesadillas, salad, and bbq- all good! They deserve a much higher rating that I see here. read more

Average food. Being from South Louisiana I'm picky. The mahi mahi with étouffée was good but a bit off on flavor with too much bay leaf or cilantro. The Shrimp n grits had good andouille and shrimp but grit cake was bland n lacked flavor. Service was really good. read more

Eh. Not my favorite. We went on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 5 people. As far as the waiter guy that took care of us, he did very well. The food just is not that great. On this occasion, someone else picked the restaurant. We all order and 5 minutes later, he comes back and lets my son know that they are out of what he ordered. He asked for a menu, and ordered something else. Ten minutes later, the waiter comes back and says they are also out of the second thing he ordered. My son ends up getting his food at least fifteen minutes after the rest of our group. When my son asks for a discount on his meal, the manager says that is just how restaurants are. I have fallen in love with this place! Very nice atmosphere with a full bar. The food was wonderful. We started out with some fried alligator and an order of pulled pork nachos. Yummy! First off you walk in and it's like a worm hole that takes you to Fire Stone. Really, the building looks almost identical, the menu, the bar menus, the chairs, the layout of the building is striking similar. If we are going to build a new restaurant, shouldn't it in fact be something NEW? The menu instead of focusing on pizza leans towards burgers and Cajun (?). My food was quite tasty,(chicken alfredo), and our server was very friendly, but it seems to be hit or miss. The cheese cake was frozen boxed stuff with strawberry jelly topping which is wired to me as I'm a transplanted new englander and never had jelly for my topping before. Have no idea how they came up with the name Purple Onion or what it stands for. Not overly impressed with anything here. Been here twice and both times just average. Absolutely nothing to brag about. Both times here at lunch and no lunch plate or special offered. If so, it was not offered to me. Had the 50/50 bacon burger and fries. Burger was ok but nothing special. Better burgers other places. The fries look like they came from the bottom of the bag, better fries other places. Parking was fine. Service was good. Pricing was fair. The food did not meet expectations and was just ok. Have been here twice with my granddaughter for a quick bite while running errands. Friendly atmosphere, wait staff was very accommodating. We ordered only appetizers each time but all were very good! First time to the Purple Onion. Busy for a Friday night. Waiting area to be seated is very small, making it hard for people to enter and exit building. Plenty of seating and nice large tvs to play all the sports games. Staff very friendly. Our waiter was very nice and recommended some items since it was our first visit. Meals came out quickly and very fresh. French fries week slightly greasy, but all in all a good place to eat. read more

HORRIBLE experience! My husband and I met up with a friend of ours (we both had a 10.5 month old baby with us). I was expecting it to be slow because they just opened so that wasn't the problem, I also understand there will be some kinks in service with a new restaurant too. What I can't tolerate is flat out rude servers. When we were seated we were told there was only 1 high hair available and they would bring us another as soon as one came available. We asked our waitress before the food came if she could check again and she came up empty handed, no biggie. We got our food and were almost halfway through our meal when we asked again...she said there weren't any yet. Within about 2 minutes a hostess walked by and told us she would go grab us another. When she got back she acted like there was collection of them (not knowing where they are would have been fine because it's all still new to them but she acted very inconvenienced by us needing a high chair for a baby...and pretty much anything we needed). At this point we were just glad to have it but our boys were restless from being switched in and out of a single seat and being held while we attempted to eat so we were going to just go. While trying to leave one of the babies knocked over a glass of tea. Another server walked by and we kindly apologized for the mess and explained what had happened to which he stared at the mess like it was a huge deal and rudely/sarcastically responded "wonderful!" Ummm excuse me?? The asst manager who actually came to clean it up was actually very sweet and understanding though! Won't waste my time and money on a place with such rude service! read more

The Purple Onion is brand new to Cabot, Arkansas on the south side of town. It was a slow build and slow to open once it appeared the building phase was completed. It is next door to one of the very best truly Mexican Restaurants anywhere north of the Mexican border - El Canaveral. We were headed to El Canaveral, but seeing a lot of cars at the Purple Onion, we thought we would give them a try. We were seated right away, and within a few minutes, a very pleasant young woman, Leah, asked for our drink order, which arrived momentarily, and she took our order: a shrimp poor boy ($10) for the wife and bowl of Gumbo ($7) for me with the shrimp added for only a dollar more. ($8). Good thing I added the shrimp. The Gumbo was advertised as traditional chicken and sausage. There were three small chunks of chicken and only one tiny sliver of sausage in the shallow bowl with small gain over-cooked rice, and brown broth. The flavor was good --- just average good though. Spicy but not too spicy. The six small, not tiny, shrimp were perfectly cooked and gave the bowl a much needed lift in the meat department. Did I mention it was a shallow bowl? I've had cups of really good meaty gumbo with lots of vegetables that would have over-flowed this bowl. Wife's poor-boy was delicious. The shrimp filled the roll and was a breaded fried shrimp with a good amount of spice. The menu was a bit eclectic, with steak ($20) chicken and pork main dishes in the $16 to $18 range with fish & chips being the least expensive at $10. Quesadias and pizza were also offered. There is a bar, but I think only beer is served. I could be wrong about that. The bar was crowded when we arrived at 5:30 with mostly a younger crowd. Cabot is in Lonoke County - one of 38 dry counties in Arkansas. So, the delay in the opening may have been the wait for a club permit. However, at no time did any one ask if we wanted to "join the club". For Cabot, the pricing is a bit on the high-side but certainly not unreasonable. When we left just after 6:00 PM the place was full, and a waiting list was in play. The line was almost out the door. No doubt, at least for a while, the place will be popular. Service was good - especially considering the place had been open for less than two weeks. The wait staff is attractive, friendly, and busy. No one was seen over-socializing with the guest or with one another. Our waitress was a little soft spoken. The place was noisy. We older folks need someone who speaks up. The young manager was doing his due diligence by chatting with each table. When he came to ours, I confirmed that he was indeed the manager and then very politely suggested that he might want to make the gumbo meatier. He acknowledged that it should have been and that he would check with the kitchen. I suggested that maybe they forgot to stir the pot before ladleing it out. He never came back. This was a serious rookie mistake. Here had a chance to secure customer loyalty by bringing out a cup of gumbo to me loaded with chicken and sausage. Any competent restaurant manager would have. This young man has more to learn about high quality customer service. On the whole, The Purple Onion is a good fit and a welcome addition to Cabot, Arkansas. It performed above my expectations for the length of time it has been open. We will give it another try and select different menu items. The place has promise. read more

Food was pretty good, I had one of the burgers. The server was nice enough, except for the fact that I ordered a Margarita after he told me it was half off that day for something to do with Razorbacks, then when I received my check I was charged full price. I asked him about it and he said he would check on it for me. When he came back he said it had been his mistake and the was NOT a special on the margarita, and he left it at that. I paid full price.... I also work in restaurants, and if the price I was told was not going to be honored, the server should have covered the difference. It was his mistake after all. To ice the cake, my two friends that went with me ordered dessert, and he did not charge them.... I have not been back, mostly because I don't go out much, but I may try again some day. read more

Horrible customer service. Went to get a to go order consisting of grilled meatloaf, loaded baked potato, and broccoli. When they brought it out, I went to the car where I opened the to go plate and found the meatloaf was very small protion, and was just thrown on the plate with out any sauce/ketchup etc, a very small side of broccoli and spinach casserole? Walked back in told them the order was incorrect and asked if that is the way the serve their meatloaf in house? Just thrown on a plate? The hostess replied no its usually larger and it comes with a tomato type sauce on it. They took the to go plate back into the kitchen even though it had already left the restaurant....put a baked potato on it and drizzled ketchup on the meatloaf. I figured that's the best service I could get so drove home ONLY to find the meatloaf was hard as a rock! Couldn't cut it with my fork then turned it over to see a black bottom and about a 1/4 of hard burnt meatloaf. Called to speak to the Manager who has zero managing/problem solving skills who just kept repeating bring it up here and I can re cook it. After explaining I do not live in town, I'm sick, pregnant and its cold I'm not getting back out she still said well I don't know what u want me to do. I told her to do her job as a manager and problem solve. Costumer service should come first. A restaurant should never let a Chef/Cook service something that they would not eat themselves. The atmosphere is a "Chilis" or "Applebees" look w/ TV's and full bar--a plus in previously dry Cabot. First off, the service at Purple Onion is not bad and they do try. 2 of 3 times it was great. The food, however, is awful. Our of a spirit of fairness and because they are close to home, I have tried 3 different menu items--a hamburger, fried catfish, and some pasta--at 3 different visits. The menu has Ameri-fare and some Cajun feel, but it is too inconsistent. This restaurant will douse dishes in flaked parmesan cheese without mentioning it on the menu--such as the Seafood Pasta and even quesadillas--that's right, quesadillas! How is that Mexican or Cajun or what are you going for?? Adding parmesan would be Italian I guess? I tried to order a hamburger but the burger and buns (not the bacon, or veggies) tasted like cardboard and flat out bizarre like too much grill or stove-top spray or something. This may have just been just my experience, but I did not think you could possibly mess up a burger. The bun tasted the same way as the meat but seemed to be the problem when they probably pressed it down to brown it, both the meat and the bun tasted bizarre. There are no sophisticated flavors in this restaurant in terms of the herbs and spices that a great chef will bring in with pasta. None. You cannot call stuff Cajun or spicy without using some cayenne, red pepper, or other subtle flavors. Salt and black pepper are not the only spices on the rack. Shrimp cannot be boiled or heated and dumped into the pasta "plain Jane"--with no flavoring and not sautéed. To be fair the gumbo was okay. The problem with this restaurant is that the chef is in over his/her head w/ this menu and inconsistency. When they do "flavor" something, it is simply over-salted. Most of the food lacks spices and the pasta had reminded me of hospital food. For now, the parking lot is packed at night, especially on weekends, get there before 6 pm. This will not last through June 2015 if the same management or chef continues, as I cannot be the only person that endured the crowd only to end up wishing I hadn't gone back. Three times was enough for me, but I encourage any reader to try this place in case it changes or in case it's an item I didn't order. I never had the salads. If you just want a place to have a beer or wine and watch a game or have dessert, you are probably okay. Ownership needs to bring in some paid consultant to come in a few times like I did and clean house before it's too late. read more

we dined mid May, mid week and 8:30pm. it far exceeded our expectations. the staff was attentive and knowledgeable, the food tasted fresh made and flavorful. if you tried during the opening, go back and try again. we heard mixed reviews and as I mentioned, our experience was fabulous. visiting from Vegas we experienced plenty of bad places in AR, so trust that we know good food and customer service. we were nervous about the seafood but ended up ordering more because it was soooo good. our party consisted of ages 4-65 and all of us were satisfied. EVEN the beer tasted better than expected because their system is still clean! read more
