We were passing through town really hungry. They have a great selection of Cajun food and burgers. Waitress did a great job of answering our questions on the menu. She took time to point out certain things about selections in the different categories. I had the Chicken Gumbo. 2 others in out party had blackened catfish and chicken fried steak. I have visited the Purple Onion several times but I have yet to leave the restaurant truly impressed. The service is always friendly even if not entirely attentive which is fine. They have a full bar which is their most redeeming quality as far as I am concerned. They offer a couple of "house brews" which normally taste like someone's beer home brewing experiments; very hit or miss and often lacking body or any real craft beer flavor. Apparently they redesigned their menu, but I haven't noticed much different. The burgers are a good choice. They are a nice size and mine was very juicy and messy, but I missed any seasoning on the meat. I had a "grit cake" with it, which was better than the fries but not a good side choice for a burger. The gumbo is pretty standard. Hearty and tasty, but not as rich, dark, and flavorful as some other local choices. I would highly suggest against the tacos. Over priced, bland flavor and very small size. The "cilantro rice" was very overcooked and not tasty, and the black beans must have just been dumped out of a can on to my plate. The chips and salsa/queso blanco are nicely priced for the portion sizes they give you but the cheese dip isn't very flavorful either. Overall if you want a drink with your meal the Purple Onion can be a solid choice. Beyond that, after several visits now I have still yet to find anything spectacular. read more

Several friends and I decided to give the Purple Onion a try despite the reviews, we are starved for good restaurants that serve alcohol in Lonoke county. Our waitress was great, friendly, the food was fast, it was okay food. Not the best or the worst just food. I would return. We ordered the quesadillas, which were okay, a full order was enough for two people to share. The appetizer sampler, had three items and was plenty to share. The chips could have been a lot better. It was late on Sunday and we were hungry, did not know what in Cabot was open as there is little to no information about local restaurants on Yelp (trying to improve that while I am in town). Stopped here as it was the first place we found open. Service was great, food was ok. When the waitress brought the menus she shared that they were out of some things, which included many of the entrees and most of the pasta dishes. We opted to share the quesadilla - it was served promptly and was hot. It's rather plain, served with pico, guac, and sour cream and was easy to share. They service is great food was great too! One of the only places to get alcohol in Cabot so that is nice too. But its not booming loud and still a good family restaurant with tons of variety. Something for everyone! I always get the quesadillas but my niece likes thier fried shrimp. read more

This is my favorite place to eat. We go at least once a week. We love Keith in the Kitchen. Lauren and Susan behind me the bar. The management is amazing as well. I had the ribeye with a simple baked potato and green beans. The potato was a little hard but overall OK. The green beans were average. The steak was ordered medium and arrived that way. I love this place! It's very good and prices are reasonable. I especially like the PB & J burger. It's soooo good! My husband likes the etouffee. I'm from Louisiana and even I think it's good. My problem with this restaurant is that there is nothing special about it. The burgers are generic and lumpy. No real flavor, just cooked lumpy beef. The fries weren't even good. Besides being a bar/restaurant in a dry town, there is very little going for this place. This was our second visit to The Purple Onion. First time - GREAT. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. This visit - Not even close to what we had previously enjoyed. We ordered Onion Dip as our appetizer... The dip bowl came out less than 1/2 full, and they use VERY cheap chips. Four people should be able to share an app, and this was just not the case. I got the White Wing Plate and my two sides were onion rings and fries. The chicken wasn't seasoned at all before being wrapped in bacon, the fries were limp, stale, and tasteless, the onion rings weren't crunchy and came out cold. I ordered Red Beans And Rice - which came WITH my meal, not before... Wasn't thrilled about that. We sent them back, as they were the WORST I'd ever eaten. Tasted like the beans came straight from a can, and rice was boiled in a bag. Even salt didn't help. My husband got the Black And Bleu Burger with fries. Where to begin?! The bun completely overpowered the taste of what could have been a just "ok" burger. He had me taste the bread, and I would compare the flavor to cardboard. It was very dry. The bleu cheese was just "ok", certainly not "good". The lettuce was wilted and looked as though it had been sitting out for a while. He said his fries tasted OLD. Same complaint with my fries as well. Our daughters each got a childrens cheese burger with fries. HOLY COW... Their burgers were the same size as his... They couldn't even eat them because of the size of the patty and the buns. Our oldest made it through about 1/3 of hers, and our youngest only took 1 bite and put it down. We will not be going back. I would give it 3.5/5 stars. I visited for lunch with a friend. The menu has a great selection, the pricing is quite reasonable, and the waitress was excellent. Despite it being very busy we were seated promptly and our food came out quickly. The food was my issue with the place. My loaded mashed potatoes had so much butter on them that I had to tip the bowl and pour some out. The broccoli was bland as well. My friend's pasta was also very greasy and she wasn't able to finish it. I'll try it again another time and avoid the stuff that wasn't very good. read more

My son, Chris, brought me here for dinner because after reading reviews by my fellow Yelpers, I wanted to try it - in particular, I wanted to try the Gumbo and the Fish and Chips, and happily explained this to our waitress. Our waitress was very friendly, but never told us her name and did not wear an ID badge. My son ordered the Bourbon Street Salmon. When I ordered the Fish and Chips, I was told they were out of catfish. How do you run out of catfish? So I ordered the Grilled Shrimp and a cup of Gumbo. My photo of our appetizer, the chips and queso, was taken at 6:43pm. Our waitress told us our dinner would be out shortly. By 7:15pm, the queso was gone and still no dinner. Our waitress apologized for our dinner taking so long and assured us it would be out soon. Chris ordered a Strawberry Bellini and I ordered a Mimosa. A few minutes later, our waitress returned and said the Mimosa was not available because its only on the brunch menu. So I ordered a Margarita. Chris and I assumed that since the Mimosa had orange juice in it, then it could not be made at dinner....? The photos of our drinks was made at 7:20pm. I've never had a Margarita in a tea glass before. I've always had them in a Margarita glass. Shortly after our drinks arrived, at 7:23pm a lady I am assuming is a manager - I don't know, like our waitress she never gave us her name or explained her role at the Purple Onion - apologized for how long our dinner was taking and said she was going to comp us 50% off to make up for it. I did ask what was the problem? She said she was not going to make excuses, that the kitchen staff either overlooked it, or just forgot it, she did not know, but that it would be out soon and she guaranteed we'd love our dinner. I took the photos of our entrees at 7:25pm. Chris said his Bourbon Street Salmon was fantastic. Even the crawfish in the sauce was delicious. He was very happy with it. My Grilled Shrimp was great. The shrimp tasted fantastic, they were tender, not rubbery or chewy at all. And my loaded baked potato was one of the best I've had. However, the Gumbo, was cold. It also had an odd aftertaste that I could not identify. Chris also tried the Gumbo, found it was cold and having an unpleasant aftertaste. The rice under my Grilled Shrimp was very bland, if I'd not had the loaded baked potato, I'd of been very disappointed. My son noticed a lady who was obviously working in some capacity of waitress or service in a lime green t-shirt. He told me she had been spending a lot of time chatting with another table she had even sat down with for a while. When our waitress went to prepare our check, as she began to use the touch-screen terminal, the lady in the lime green t-shirt interrupted her and said, "Wait, wait, Kaitlynn, I need to do this first." Our waitress, Kaitlynn (we then knew to be her name) said something to lime green t-shirt lady, who replied, "That's my sister...." My son was not impressed. We finally got our check. No, the 50% comp was not reflected in the total. Chris flagged down our waitress, Kaitlynn, and asked her about it. She was not aware of it and had to go find the manager?/owner? and get her to fix it. After which the manager?/owner? returned and asked us if the wait was worth it? Yes, for how good the balance of our food was, it had been worth the wait. She then asked me if I was now going to give them a good review on Yelp. I honestly did not know what to say - I'd never been asked that in quite these circumstances before. Frankly, my son was offended that the manager?/owner? asked for the good review as opposed to asking about our food, and maybe expressing that she hoped we'd come back for a better experience. He was also very unhappy that he had to ask for the 50% comp we were assured to make up for the bad service. I'm thinking, we may not be back. read more

This was my third and last visit. The other two visits were for lunch. Lunch was pretty good, one visit the service wasn't the best. So this time we met some friends there for dinner. Hostess was friendly, waitress promptly brought our drinks and appetizers. Now it goes downhill... I dip into the salsa that has way too much garlic. My chip hits what I think is a chunk of tomato. Nope, it's a soggy chip in the bottom of the salsa! Gross! So now I'm ready to barf. The waitress said they would take the $3.99 off my ticket. long... polite waitress (reason for the 1 stars). watched two tables being cleaned with filthy towels. to make it worse, the waitress wiped the seat cushion and THEN wiped the table. saw this happen not once, but twice. so i pictured some guys butt on my table... seriously? is that their training?
